Chapter 7
After the final show, Lucille and Francœur were approached by their friends and praised for their outstanding performances. While he always enjoyed their company, there was one person in particular that the giant flea was most eager to see: Madeleine. As promised, she had appeared after the curtain closing of the last show, despite being tired from work.
"Oh Francœur, your performance was absolutely amazing! Lucille had told me how beautiful your singing was, but to hear it for myself was simply magical."
He chirped and blushed at her comment, which brought a lovely smile to her face:
"You know, I suppose this makes us even: You heard me sing earlier and now I finally heard you sing."
He gave her a nod in agreement as a toothy grin appeared across his face, to which she felt her insides flutter at seeing him smile. Madeleine had to admit that he had a very nice smile: It was boyish, yet charming and handsome.
"Oh Maddie dear, could you come out to the front for a few minutes and help me lock up for the night?"
"I'll be right there Auntie." Glancing back up, she gave Francœur an apologetic look, "I'm sorry to cut our conversation short again, but maybe we can visit some more once I'm finished."
With a chirp and a nod, he gave the young blonde a polite bow, to which she curtsied and headed off to assist Carlotta.
Stepping over to the front of the cabaret, Madeleine approached her Aunt with a smile, "I can't believe how spectacular the performance was. I always knew Lucille was talented, but hearing her and Monsieur Francœur sing together was amazing."
"Indeed it was." A smile lined her face as she lovingly placed a hand on her arm, "You know, you could always join them on stage if you wanted to. I know Lucille would love to hear you sing again and I bet Francœur would also enjoy listening to your sweet, sweet voice."
"..Well, he did hear me sing earlier."
"Oh? You sang for him," she asked, surprised.
"Well, not directly. I was actually singing to myself inside my dressing room when he happened to be passing by and heard me."
*sigh* "I wish you'd sing for us again. You've always had such a lovely voice. It's a shame to let it go to waste."
"I know..I want to sing again, but my confidence was shattered after the accident. Maybe I could practice in front of you, Lucille and Francœur sometime?"
"Of course you can! We'd be delighted to hear you perform; however, perhaps we should wait until tomorrow. You've had a long day and need to rest."
"I suppose you're right. The trip to Paris was a little taxing and I am starting to feel a bit tired."
"Well, once we finish closing up we'll all retire for the evening. Besides, you'll need your rest for tomorrow's outing with Lucille and Francœur," she winked, bringing a soft blush to her niece's cheeks.
