Hello, sorry for being off for so long, but we're close to the end and this has been the 1st work I ever made, so, I want to make it right. Hope you're still with me, the next chapter will probably be published in October.
CH 97 – Not ready to say goodbye
What is the work of a parent? Provide? Nah, too basic… Is it to always be there? Maybe… or, maybe it's simply to try their best. No one said being a parent is easy, and, if you ask Emily, the most difficult part is when the kids grow up, when they are ready to leave the nest because you're never ready to say goodbye to them…
"Ali! My boys don't need me anymore!"
"Em, do not be dramatic, they just said they don't need your help to pack their things"
"Why do they have to start packing? It's too soon…"
"It's better if they start now. With finals and prom, they might not have time later…"
"But, they haven't even decided what college to go to?"
"Maybe, but that decision will come sooner than what we might think. I mean, Wayne already got some swimming proposals, thanks to you who has trained him to be a great swimming just like you"
Emily chuckles, remembering the 1st time the boys put a foot in a pool. Oliver didn't like it, he cried all the time, while Wayne, oh, he was a natural swimmer, a little merman. Always smiling and eager to swim side by side with the mermaid mother. Yeah, her little boy became a great merman, so, it's not surprising to know there are several colleges fighting to get him on their team. And, Wayne is not the only one who has options, because…
"Ollie, he has already been accepted into Berklee… it's so far away from here…"
"Yeah Em, but we are going to Julliard… the audition for Julliard will be in a couple of weeks and of course we will get Julliard"
"We?"
Emily raises an eyebrow as Alison talks about Oliver's choice for college as if it was a team decision. And, in Alison's mind, it's. After all, she's the one who introduced Ollie to the piano, the one who played Mozart, Bethoveen to him when he was just a baby. And, as the first piano teacher, he got, Alison feels responsible to make sure her dear prodigy chooses the best. And, the best is…
"Julliard, Em! Julliard is in NY, he will be just a few hours away…"
Emily chuckles, of course, Alison would prefer Julliard, to keep her little boy close to home. But, this is not about what they want, it's about what their kids want, and, to be honest, Oliver's 1st option is also Julliard. He likes the program more than the one of the other schools. That's why he has been killing his ass practicing for his Julliard's audition.
And, while Wayne & Oliver are committed to sports & music, Enzo, well he was pursuing Paris, to become a great chef. But, he's not sure anymore. Especially when he's standing in front of the house of the girl to whom he's not ready to say goodbye…
"Are you going to stand there all day long or are you gonna knock on the door at some point?"
Enzo turns towards the voice who's teasing him and he rolls his eyes when he peeks at Hayley staring at him from the window.
"How long have you been there, staring?"
"The same period of time you've been there, standing in front of my door"
Enzo chuckles and Hayley smirks as she gets out of the house through the window.
"Wow! What are you doing? It's dangerous, Hayley!"
"C'mon, Enzo! Where is your sense of adventure!"
Enzo shakes his head, how he fell in love with a girl like her? He wonders. She's a mess, just one look at her room is proof enough to prove it. There are so many clothes over the floor, it's hard to remember what the real color of the carpet is. Completely opposite to Enzo, who is most notorious for his obsessive cleanliness. A good quality to be a good chef, but also a good reason to lose it, every time he hangs out with Hayley Rivers.
Just like her mother, Hanna, Hayley is like a whirlwind, something that makes Enzo crazy sometimes and somehow, he also likes that from her. Maybe, it's true what people say about opposites attract each other. But, if that's the case, then why did it take him so long to realize his feelings for her?
Since they were little, Hayley has been more than open about her feelings. Always chasing him around, tackling him to the ground every time she saw him just to fill his face with kisses. Yeah, those were the days, and, while now she might not be as expressive as she was when she was 5, she has never hidden her big crush for Enzo DiLaurentis-Fields. That's why she has no problem to always make the 1st move.
"You finally realized that you love me, isn't it…?"
"Huh?!"
Sitting on the steps of the porch of the River's house, Enzo looks like a deer caught in the middle of the road when Hayley makes such a statement. The blonde chuckles when she looks at his face. It makes her a little sad to see that the boy she has always loved, it took him so long to see what has always been there, in front of him.
"It took you too long…"
"I know…"
Enzo knows he's slow on the questions of the heart. And, he might be a few years late to say this, but, like they say, better late than ever, right?
"Hayley…"
"Yeah…?"
"Would you like to go out on a date with me?"
"Like on a date? A date, date? Real date?"
"Yeah, the 1st of many, I hope…"
Both teenagers chuckle, blushing a lot about it. They have known each other since they were in brownies and yet, it feels like they have so many things to discover about each other. And, Enzo cannot wait to discover how this 1st date will go, but, to be honest…
"It's not gonna be our 1st date, Enzo…"
"Huh? What do you mean?"
"Do not tell me you don't remember our 1st date?!"
Hayley playfully punches him on the arm, shocked by the fact that Enzo doesn't remember their 1st date. Wow! He's really slow. He frowns, trying to remember, and then, he says...
"Are you talking about the other day when we saw a movie with our siblings?
"Non! I'm talking about the time when we did sandcastles in the sandbank…"
"What? I was 5!"
"And?! It was a play date! So, a date at the end!"
Enzo laughs and shakes his head, he disagrees, especially when Hayley starts to recall all the supposed dates they have made along the years.
"At this pace, you will end up telling me that I'm already your boyfriend!"
"Oh, you didn't know? Well, in that case…"
Hayley kisses him on the lips. It was a peck on the lips, unexpected, soft and enough to leave Enzo without words while Hayley says with a big smile…
"Enzo, you're my crush, my boyfriend, and the person with whom I will spend the rest of my life…"
Enzo chuckles, and just like that, he knows that Paris or not Paris, nothing will tear them apart, nothing will stop the unavoidable because there are some love stories which are just meant to be. No matter what...
*** Spencer's narrative (voice-over) ***
No matter how much we screw up, we always do crazy things for the people we love. There may be some bumps along the way, but we never stop caring. That's why we're never ready to say goodbye and we do till the impossible to not lose the love of our lives. Even if it might look too late to make it right...
"Spencer. What are we doing here? Why did you ask to meet on this tennis court?"
Blair asks as she approaches. And, the dear Hastings has always been very articulate, always good with words till now. She has rehearsed with the girls. She has made a plan to conquer her wife again with the help of her friends. But, now that the plan is in motion, now that she has to say the speech she has rehearsed so many times, it's when the fear appears. The fear of saying goodbye to their love story, the fear of losing the person she loves. Because regardless of how well she's planning things, Spencer cannot guarantee that Blair will take her back.
"Spence…?"
The dear doctor calls her name again and somehow, Spencer finds the strength to push her fears away and do what she planned to do. So, without further ado, Spencer throws a tennis racket to her wife as she requests a match.
"You really asked me to come to play?"
"It's your free day at the hospital. And, it has been a while since the last time we played so… what do you say?"
"You told me you wanted to talk. So, I came to talk, not to play"
"So, let's do this: You win: we talk. I win: we do whatever I want to do"
Blair waves her look between the racket on her hands and Spencer, who's standing in front of her. Playing tennis is not what she was expecting from the young Hastings. Not when they have so many things to discuss like: are they getting a divorce? Who fills the papers? And, the girls? What about them? Alice & Veronica, they are Blair's daughters regardless whatever a DNA test might show, the girls are Blair's little angels and she wants to talk with Spencer about what could be the best way to share custody, but she doesn't know how to start the conversation. So yeah, playing doesn't look like a bad idea after all.
So many things to discuss, to decide and yet, Blair decides to play as she hesitates to start the big talk. The game starts, both are a little rusty but soon they get warmed up.
"In your face, Hastings! I just won the 1st set!"
Spencer chuckles when she sees the dear doctor, making her victory dance. So embarrassing and cute at the same time, it makes Spencer smile, big time.
"It's just the 1st set, this is far from over..."
"Ha! Always such a bad loser, Hastings"
Yeah, Spencer has never liked to lose, and she has no intention to lose this match nor her wife. Spencer takes her off guard during the 3rd set when she speeds up her movements, and maybe Blair hasn't realized it yet, but there's so much in the game right now.
"Wow, you kicked my ass, Spencer! You won, so, I guess we will do what you want..?"
"Yeah, so, let's talk…"
Regardless of what would be the result of their match, Spencer knew they needed to talk, but now that she won, she feels more confident to win the next step too.
"Let me tell you something Blair, a long time ago, in this tennis court, one smart girl told me to fight for the person I love. And, that's what I'm doing right now…"
Blair smiles under the memory of the first time she brought Spencer here. At that time, she was trying to persuade Spencer to fight for Toby. Things didn't go as expected and yet, to think they are back here, having a similar conversation than back then, it's really something. It's funny how destiny plays its cards, but, to be honest, Blair is not sure if she wants to convince Spencer to fight for her.
"Spencer, I…"
"Let me talk first, please…"
The other brunette nods and the young Hastings resumes her speech.
"Blair, You told me once I deserved someone kind, someone loyal. And, at that time I didn't believe you, but you were so right!"
"Of course, I was right! You deserves the best, Spencer"
"So let me have the best… let me have YOU"
Just like during the game, Spencer takes Blair off guard with her words. But...
"You're an amazing woman, Spencer. And, I love you, I will always love you. But, I'm done with staying in the background, overlooked"
"I never mean to make you feel neglected!"
"I know. But, you did…"
"Blair, I will do better! I'm not running anymore for Governor, I…"
"I don't think that was the problem in the 1st place, Spence"
"What?"
Dropping the tennis racket like a sign of defeat, Blair sadly exhales as she admits to Spencer and mostly to herself that...
"I always knew your career was important for you. And, I was okay with that. But, somehow, anything, not just work, anything became more interesting than me"
"Blair, non! I…"
"You lost interest in me, in spending time with me. And, it's not completely your fault, I saw the signs and I did nothing about it. I focused on the girls, on being a mom. And, I also lost track of us…" (sighs) "The point is, we drifted apart and we cannot take it back, all we can do, it's to move forwards and talk about what we must do next because the girls need clarity from us. We need to stop playing games and just …"
"Just what? Get a Divorce?!"
Blair looked down, already sobbing because she doesn't feel strong enough to say such a word. And, just like her, Spencer is not ready to let such 'D' word become a reality because...
"I'm not ready to say goodbye to you… to our love story, Blair"
"I know, me neither but we cannot turn back the clock…"
Spencer has no idea what to reply, what magical words to say to change Blair's mind. Because, it's too late, it's too late to undo all the damages in their marriage, it's impossible to go back in time and not cancel their dates, or their anniversary celebrations because of work. Yeah, it's too late to take back all the bad decisions and yet…
"Oh, screw it!"
Spencer says as she throws away the tennis racket and rushes to crush her lips against the lips of the dear doctor. It was unexpected, but not unwelcome because the moment Blair feels her lips, she deepens the kiss without hesitation. After all, no one is ready to put an end to any love story.
Yeah, it's not easy to end something. Especially when it hasn't even started yet. Because, while Spencer is fighting for the love of her life, another girl in town, it's doing exactly the opposite.
"What the hell?! Why is Betty avoiding me?!"
Veronica angrily asks the 1st DiLaurentis who walks into the school.
"Ahmmm… are you talking to me?"
"Yes, Wayne! I'm talking to you! What the hell is wrong with your sister?! She doesn't take my calls, she doesn't reply to my texts, she's even skipping classes we've together! WHY?!"
Wayne shrugs, he's the last person on Earth to understand why Betty is the way she's. Do not get it wrong, he loves all his siblings, but Betty really makes it hard sometimes.
"I thought we were becoming good friends again, you know? Like old times when we were kids…"
Veronica Hastings sadly pouts, she never thought she would get attached to the blonde DiLaurentis so fast again, but, she did, she fell into Betty's orbit fast and hard. And, maybe that's why Wayne feels pity for her when he sees how crushed Veronica looks.
"I've no clue what is happening in my sister's head. But, I'll try to talk to her, okay?"
Veronica smiles and she really believes Wayne can help. Only if she knew the animosity between them because Betty might be the ruler in the school, but at home, when the parents are not there, it's Wayne who rules.
The big brother, the perfect kid, the perfect son, the perfect brother. The golden boy of the family. Everyone looks up at Wayne, everyone except for Betty, who refuses to stay in the shadow of her brother. They are like water & oil, they never mix and maybe that's why everytime Wayne tries to have a word with Betty about what is happening with Veronica, the dear blonde always shuts him down.
"Did you talk with her?"
Wayne deeply sighs, every day, Veronica asks him the same question and sadly, every time, he has no good news. He sucks at getting close to his sister, and to know what is happening in Betty's mind, but he doesn't know when to stop trying. So, he keeps trying.
Every day, he tries to talk with his little sister, and every day, Betty walks away from the conversation, and as a consequence, every day Wayne tries to compensate Veronica with his lack of success by doing something nice for her.
Helping her to study in the subjects he excels. Driving her home the days she has cheerleader practices because it's too late for her to take the bus. Giving her his ration of lasagna when his mom, Alison, put it in his lunch bag because let's face it, Alison's lasagna is to die for! Yeah, Wayne might fail to help Veronica on her quest to talk with Betty, but he doesn't fail in being there for her for anything else.
A friendship starts to blossom between them, Veronica leans on Wayne, like the big brother she never got and somehow, their closeness gets noticed by the rest of the students. Especially when rumors start to spread.
'Did you hear? Wayne DiLaurentis is finally out of the market!'
'Wayne + Veronica, I ship them as our next King & Queen in prom!'
People talk about them, social media goes nuclear with pictures of them, talking, laughing. And, the new item of the school is loved by everyone except for the Queen Bee.
"Are you really dating my brother?!"
Betty angrily confronts Veronica in the locker room. After weeks of pretending Veronica didn't exist, Betty finally decides to talk to her and the dear Hastings wants to smile because of it, but she doesn't because she doesn't like the tone of the blonde.
"So?! Are you or not dating?"
"Who I date or not, is not your business!"
The blonde looks angry and the brunette looks angry too, this is the 1st time they speak in weeks. And, to be honest, Veronica was hoping for another kind of approach, but Betty has zero touch on approaching the dear brunette, especially when she's feeling so jealous of her brother. Her brother! For God's sake!
She will not lose against her brother! He cannot take Veronica away from her! But, everyone loves Wayne, he's so nice, such a good boy. He's so damn perfect, Betty has no other option than to beat him at his own game. The only problem is she's far to be nice, she doesn't know how, but she knows who might be able to help her.
"Alice! Come to my room!"
The twin frowns, she was so peacefully reading something to Pepe, she doesn't need to do what her twin says, but she hasn't been invited to put a foot in her sister's room in years, so, she's clearly not passing up this opportunity.
"C'mon Pepe! Let's go! To conquer unknown lands!"
"Oh hell no! The dog stays out!"
"He's not just a dog, he's Pepe!"
"I don't care! He will not put a paw in my room!"
Alice pouts, Pepe pouts and Betty rolls her eyes when her twin crosses her arms across her chest and makes it clear that if Pepe is not allowed to come in, she neither.
"Fine! But, you'll clean if he drops his fur all around my room"
Allice smiles and nods as her loyal friend comes in too. Like any dog, Pepe starts to sniff around, and, just like the dog, Alice is also getting familiar with the room. Looking around, amazed at each detail that surprised her like Betty's comic collection.
"OMG! You read comics?!"
"You tell someone about it, and you're dead!"
Alice puts her hands up before daring to touch any comic.
"So… why am I here?"
Sitting on the edge of the bed, Betty pats the empty spot beside her and Alice smiles under such an invitation. Definitely, today is full of surprises, it's what Betty's twin thinks and the surprises continue when the Queen Bee says…
"I need you to teach me how to be nice…"
"Huh?!"
"You know… to be more like you… a nice girl who everyone loves…"
The last words were more like a mumble, especially when Bettly doesn't dare to look up and focus more on the stain of nail polish she hasn't been able to remove from the carpet. But, she cannot keep the look down for too long as her twin makes her look at her when she puts her hand over her chin.
"Betty, everybody loves you too…"
"Ha! No, they don't! They fear me, but they don't love me…"
There's sadness in her words, Alice feels it as well as Pepe, maybe that's why the dog puts his head over Betty's leg, trying to cheer her up. No one can resist Pepe's charm, not even the cold QB of high school.
"He's nice, I'm starting to get why you love him so much…"
Betty says as she pats Pepe's head. And, Alice nods, because Pepe knows exactly what to do without the need of using words. A superpower that Alice tries to copy and that's why she decides, just like Pepe, to cheer Betty with human contact.
"What are you doing?!"
"Hugging you, Betty. It felt like you needed a hug..."
Betty rolls her eyes and tries to get free from the hug, but she fails miserably when they end up on the floor and Pepe starts to lick her face too.
"Gross! Gross! Gross!"
"Oh! C'mon! You love it! And, you know it!"
Yeah, everyone needs a hug every now and then. Just like everyone needs to see their dreams come true…
"What is that noise?"
The door of Betty's room was slightly open when Alison heard the laughter of her two daughters. Together! Something she hasn't heard in years, so rare to hear the twins laughing and giggling together that Alison dares to get a peek on whatever is happening inside the room, and, to her shock, she sees something with she was dreaming to happen, for years…
"Really?! A hammer so heavy no one can pick it up?"
"It's not heavy, it's just magical…"
"And, why can only the blond hero lift it?"
"Because he's a God! And, he's hot!"
"That's not how magic should work!"
"You don't get it because you need to read the other volumes, here, read this comic first, and then, we will talk!"
Alison cannot believe what she sees, the twins who haven't played along since they were 10, are arguing and laughing about comics? The blonde mom smiles, she doesn't know what on Earth happened to make this happen, but she has no intention to disturb it, so, she walks away, on her toes, towards her bedroom where her wife is looking into some boxes and says…
"Em, you will not believe what I just saw, I… Em?"
The mermaid was sobbing, looking into some boxes with old things from when the boys were little. Gazing towards the calendar, Emily realizes that in less than 3 months, Wayne, Oliver and Enzo will leave for college. And, she can't believe it! It feels like it was just yesterday when the three little boys were crawling all over the house. And, a smile takes shape on Emily's lips under such beautiful memories.
"Ali, look, their 1st pair of shoes!"
"OMG! Did we keep that?"
"Of course I did!"
Every little thing from the box Emily got off from the attic, is full of memories: the boys running, the boys giggling, the boys playing… her boys who are becoming young men. Young, independent men who will very soon leave the house and to whom Emily will need to say goodbye, but she can't! She's not ready for it! She cannot believe how fast time flies and she cannot also believe that her wife is not as upset as she's.
"Why are you not a crying baby like me?!"
The brunette mother bursts into tears and Alison rushes to hug her. It's not like it doesn't affect her, but…
"Emily, it's not like we will never see them again"
"I know…"
"And, we knew this day would eventually happen. It's the circle of life…"
"I know, but…"
"But?"
"They are my little sweet boys…"
Alison chuckles, she will always find cute how Emily can act like a big mama bear sometimes. So, she wipes away the tears of the mermaid as she tries to comfort her.
"Em, they will always be our little boys"
The brunette smiles, Alison is right, regardless of how much they grow up, for them, as a parent, they will always be their kids. The little ones they promised to love and protect no matter what.
"I'm acting silly, isn't it?"
"Non, Em. You're acting like any lovely mother would act…"
"And, why are you not panicking too?"
"Well, I guess I will, but, for now, I'm okay because I know that even if all the kids leave the house, I'll always have you…"
Emily smiles, she likes how Alison thinks, because she's right, even without the kids, they will never be alone since they have each other.
"Yes, you'll. You'll always have me…"
Gazing at each other with a big smile, they kiss, sealing their promise to always stay together. A promise no one of them plans to break, especially because...
"Just think about all the naughty things we will be able to do in an empty house, Em…"
Emily chuckles, blushing red as a tomato, of course her dear wife is already imagining how she will ravish the mermaid in every corner of the house without the fear of getting caught by their kids. And, the idea is thrilling, especially when the dear mermaid wonders why they need to wait to have an empty house to do naughty things.
"Em, what are you doing?"
The brunette doesn't reply, she simply grabs Alison's hand to guide them out to their pool. It's not the warmer night to take a swim, nevertheless, Emily starts to undress, slowly, teasing the blonde with each piece of clothes she takes off. Swimming naked is of course an invitation to something else, and the thrill to do it with the house full, it's something which turns Alison on, even more.
"So naughty mermaid…"
Alison mumbles as she bites her lips and starts to undress herself too. Before you know it, they jump into their pool, wearing nothing. Giggles, moans and the most graphic noises you could imagine echo the house and the vicinity which doesn't doubt to shout out how loud they are…
"OMG! Have some decency and keep it quiet! I can hear you from here, Alison!"
Blair chuckles as she hears Spencer, scolding their neighbors from the backyard of the Hasting house. She asked the dear Hastings to come home tonight so they could talk because, let's be honest, on the tennis court, they really didn't talk, it was more kissing than really making words. So, here they are, outside of the house, hearing how their friends are ravishing each other.
"I cannot have a conversation with those two in the background acting like two cats in heat…"
"I agree, Spencer, but, I don't think they will keep it quiet, so, rain check on another day?"
Spencer puffs her cheeks, pondering on the option of leaving to her hotel room or…
"Or, maybe we could do the same…"
"Huh?!"
Blair starts to panic when she sees Spencer starting to undress herself in the middle of the backyard. It's chilling outside and yet, the dear Hasting is ready to get naked on a cold night like tonight. A bold move on her behalf.
"Spencer, stop! The girls!"
"They are in their rooms, maybe even sleeping…"
"But…"
"But, what…? You don't want to…?"
Blair deeply exhales because God knows she wants to, she really wants to have Spencer chanting her name as she cum. She wants to feel again how good Spencer tastes. And, maybe it's the naughty sounds coming from the house next door, or the intense kiss they shared a moment ago, whatever was the reason, Blair has no intention to stop it. But…
"Not here, let's go to the barn…"
Spencer smiles and she starts giggling when Blair strongly holds her hand as they run towards the barn. And, it seems that the DiLaurentis-Fields house is not the only house in the neighborhood doing the nasty, tonight. Thankfully, the kids of both houses are well equipped to deal with horny parents. And, that's why that night all the kids fell asleep with their headsets on.
It seems that love is in the air, blossoming again in places where it was long forgotten. And, that's because when you find love and love finds you, you don't run away from it, not when there's a chance you'll be lucky enough to have mutual love. Yeah, you are not allowed to just run away from love. But, how to fight for it when you've no clue about how love works at all?
"What is wrong with Betty, Wayne?"
Veronica asks, to who has become her best buddy. They were having lunch together as usual, Wayne almost chocking on his burrito when the brunette mentions that Betty is being nice to everyone on the school, even with the nerds she loved to torture.
"What?! That doesn't sound like my sister…"
"Exactly! This is not like her at all, right? So what happened? Is she sick or something? I mean, is she trying to win her ticket to heaven or what?"
Wayne shakes his head, he might not know what happens on the day-to-day of his little sister, but, he's sure he would know if there was a matter of life & death happening in the family.
"Haven't you noticed something else in the house?"
The dear DiLaurentis looks lost in his thoughts because now that he thinks about it, Betty has been spending more time with Alice. In a good way, something which is weird, really weird. But, that's the thing about love, it makes you do the weirdest things in the world. And, there's nothing more weird in high school than to have a nice Queen Bee.
"What the hell is wrong with you, Betty?!"
The blonde rolls her eyes when her minions demand an explanation for this change of attitude. And, the only thing they get is Betty walking away from them.
"Seriously, Betty?! You turn your back on us? For what? Just to spend more time with that freaky sister you've?!"
Not only in the house, it has also been notorious in the school that Betty & Alice have come close, more close than what Betty might admit because the moment she hears one of her minions call Alice 'freak', she literally loses it, like she has never done it before.
"Fight! Fight! Fight!"
Everyone yells during lunch the moment Betty jumps on the girl who said shit about her twin. No one dares to break the fight, just the 1st adult who rushes to intervene. And, that person is not other than…
"The Principal Fields! Run!"
All the crowd dissipates the moment they see Emily. The only one who hasn't noticed her presence, it's the blonde Queen Bee who's on top of another student, kicking her ass.
"Elizabeth DiLaurentis-Fields!"
It's rare to hear her full name, but, each time she hears it, it's because she's in big trouble. Maybe that's why her fist freezes in the air before crashing on the face of the other girl. Betty hesitates on giving a last punch, but, when her mother calls her name again, she knows that she has to stop and go directly to the office of the Principal.
"What the hell were you doing, Betty?"
"I was just being nice, mom!"
"Nice?! Do you call it 'nice' to get the crap out of one of your friends?!"
Betty rolls her eyes, this thing, about being 'nice', is giving her more problems than expected. Her minions have never dared to question her, but it's obvious that from now on, they will no longer be loyal to her. Something that Betty has no issue with it because after all, all she needs is…
"Veronica…"
The brunette shyly smiles at the blonde who is getting out of the Principal's office after more than one hour of lecture. The bell rang a long time ago, everyone should be in class right now, so why is Veronica Hastings waiting alone in the hallway of the school? Could this be her reward for being nice? No, it can't be, Betty shakes her head as she tries to not over think about the meaning of this. But, it's hard to not daydream about the meaning of this encounter, especially when her heart is beating so fast.
"Are you okay, Betty?"
"I guess… I mean, I'll probably be grounded till the end of time, but, besides that, yeah, I'm peachy…"
Veronica giggles, always such a drama queen, she thinks while the only Betty can think is about how beautiful is Veronica's laugh.
"Shouldn't you be in class, V?"
"I should, definitely, but…."
"But…?"
Staring at those beautiful blue eyes, Veronica smiles as she's finally seeing a version of Betty which she hasn't seen since they were toddlers.
"I like this version of you more, B…"
"Really? You like to watch me getting into fights?"
"No, but, I like to see you fighting for what really matters…"
Both girls smile at each other, and, somehow, the distance between them starts to fade. The feared Queen Bee is still feared, but not for being a bully, but for kicking the ass of all the bullies. A new era was starting to form, an era where Betty was more than capable to be a decent sister of Alice. An era where Betty & Veronica could get to know each other again, spending more time together and more than that, letting visible that something more than a friendship was in the works.
"It seems like your sister is stealing your girlfriend, Wayne. What are you gonna do about it?"
Everyone whispers into Wayne's ear. Especially Taylor, the archenemy of Betty, the girl who would love nothing more than to see the two DiLaurentis tear each other apart as savage animals.
