Chapter 13
Francœur was sitting on the couch in Madeleine's dressing room, tuning his guitar, when he heard the distinct *clip clop, clip clop* of heels storming down the hall and towards the room before his Rose appeared in the doorway. Instead of the bright, dazzling sapphires he was accustomed to seeing, her eyes were now dark and laced with sadness that was fueled by anger. Said eyes met his, to which she suddenly broke down and started to cry, prompting him to abandon his task and rush to her side.
Madeleine leaned into his touch as he gently pulled her close against his large frame, to which he began stroking her hair, bringing a sad smile to her face and prompting her to look up at him. "..Thank you Francœur."
He chirped and tenderly caressed her cheek while giving her an inquisitive look.
*sigh* "I-I'm sorry you have to see me like this. My ex just stepped in a few minutes ago and our exchange was far from pleasant." His eyes narrowed as he momentarily glanced over at the door, to which she knowingly shook her head, "No..he's gone now. Sean and I told him to leave. I just..I wasn't expecting him to suddenly appear. Last time I saw him, he broke off our engagement and abandoned me while I was lying bandaged, broken and burned, not knowing if I would survive my injuries or not..," she felt her lip starting to tremble as memories of that terrible day began flooding her mind. Shaking her head of those thoughts, Madeleine hugged the giant flea a bit tighter and breathed in his comforting scent, which soothed her immensely.
For his part, Francœur continued to hold her and softly began to hum to her, bringing a small smile to her lovely face.
"You're so kind. What did I do to deserve someone as wonderful as you in my life?"
He emitted a chirp and gave her a smile before leaning down and kissing her forehead.
*sigh* "I apologize if I overreacted. I was just upset at seeing him again, but I suppose it was bound to happen at some point or another. Thank you for listening and being here for me."
A nod was his response before he cupped her cheek and pressed his forehead against hers.
"I love you Francœur."
Hearing her say those words, he felt his heart skip a beat. Granted, she had confessed her love for him before, but he never tired of hearing it. He responded by emitting a series of clicks and chirps before they shared a long, passionate kiss that left them breathless afterwards.
*knock, knock, knock*
"Madeleine? May I come in," Lucille asked from the other side of the door.
With a blush, the young blonde reluctantly left the giant flea's side and opened said door. "Come on in."
"Thank you. Oh, hello Francœur, I hope I'm not interrupting anything."
He and Madeleine shared a knowing look and a smile as he emitted a chirp.
"Well, I apologize if I disrupted you both, but I just spoke with Sean and he told me that you had a rather unpleasant encounter with a gentleman."
Madeleine nodded and emitted a sigh, "Yes..it was my ex fiance, Jean Marques. He just randomly showed up and we exchanged a few words before Sean and I asked him to leave. I honestly have no idea why he's in Paris or why he decided to show his stupid face here, but if he ever sets foot in this establishment again.."
Francœur approached and gently placed a hand on her shoulder while emitting a soft chirp, prompting her to look up at him and breathe a calming sigh:
"I'm sorry.."
He leaned down and nuzzled her temple while Lucille took a hold of her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze, "If he shows up again, we'll notify the police."
"Thank you."
"Of course."
