Hello and welcome to this new story that I'm trying out. This story will be somewhat canon compliant until the attack of the USJ. From there it will splinter off into its own thing. Some of the stuff that happened in the anime/manga will come into play but differently. As for Deku, he still inherits OFA and he won't be bashed on. Instead this story will focus on All Might and his estranged son.

I don't want to give too much away but I will say that I'm excited to take on this new project. Because of how short this chapter is, I will be posting the next chapter in a few days. If you have any questions please feel free to ask them and I'll do my best to answer them.

Enjoy.

To Be A Hero

Chapter 1

"What do you want, All Might?" Seto asked as he looked up at the sunken face of Japan's number one Hero.

"I came here to apologize..." All Might stood in the entrance of Seto's home. Despite being in his unpowered form, All Might was still taller than Seto standing at over 6 feet. "I once told you that you could never be a hero without a quirk and that you should give up on that dream. And at the time, I meant it. But today I met a young man not much older than you who also dreams to be a hero. I regrettably told him the same thing as you but he proved me wrong with his actions. He rushed in to save a classmate of his without any thought or concern about his own safety. He had the heart of a true hero and I realized that anyone could become a hero."

Seto, who was a 14 year old teenager with short dark blue hair that almost looked black and blue eyes, simply stared at the number one hero. His expression remained unchanged but his eyes, which had already had a cold quality to them, hardened even more.

"And I came here to tell you that I'm sorry, my boy. I was wrong to tell you what I did and for that I beg for your forgiveness." All Might bowed his head. "I know that I can't take back what I said to you but I can do something else."

"No." Seto said as his cold stare turned into a glare. "You don't get to come back into my life after what you said and just act like you can make everything all better."

"But my boy-" All Might began but he was cut off by the young man.

"I'm not your boy!" He shouted with a wave of his hand. "Not anymore! You lost that right when you crushed my dreams! Ever since then I've had no one in my corner except for mom, the woman that you left in the shadows all these years!"

"That's not fair, you know why I can't tell anyone-"

"Shut up! I'm tired of your excuses. Just tell me what you want and get the hell out of here before mom shows up. I don't want her crying again because of you!" Seto all but shouted.

All Might looked as though he had been physically hit by Seto's words but he held it together as best he could. "I...came here to offer you my Quirk. I...want you to be my successor."

"No." Seto refused.

"Think about it, with my quirk you'd be the number one hero for sure!" All Might tried to reason with him.

"I don't want your quirk. Six years ago, grandpa Torino said that you should choose me as your successor and I wanted so badly to be the one to inherit your quirk. To be the one to continue your legacy. But you refused because you didn't think someone without a quirk could be a hero. But you're wrong and I will prove it to you by becoming the number one hero without a quirk." Seto then turned his back to All Might. "Now leave...I don't want to see you anymore."

Silence enveloped them both for several moments until the door opened and a woman entered. She was a beautiful woman with long flowing dark blue hair and warm blue eyes. She took one look at All Might and stopped in the doorway.

"Toshi..." She breathed out.

"I'm sorry, Sora...I was just leaving." All Might excused himself and left before she could say another word. As he reached the elevator, he heard her call out to him but he didn't look back. He couldn't.

Seto had been right, he no longer had any right to be there. If Seto didn't want to be his successor then it seemed like the other boy would be his successor. The sad part was that All Might couldn't even say that he tried his best because he hadn't. Not really. Six years had gone by since the last time that he had seen his son in person. And it had been almost 6 months since he had last spoken to Sora on the phone. Both of them had their lives to live but at that moment, All Might didn't feel like the number one hero. He felt like the number one failure.

As he stepped out of the elevator, he was surprised to see Sora standing in front of him. He had forgotten that she was a pro hero too.

"Toshi, what's going on? Is everything okay?" She asked as she stopped in front of him.

"Sora...I'm sorry." All Might sighed as he raised a hand to his head. "I came here to try and make amends with Seto but he didn't want anything to do with me."

"Toshi...of course he doesn't want anything to do with you." Sora said bluntly. "You should've called me before coming in, I could've helped you."

"I'm sorry..." All Might repeated.

This caused Sora to giggle. She reached out and placed a hand on his chest. "You already said that, you big oaf." she leaned in and placed a kiss on his lips. "Now come on, let's go grab a bite to eat before you go. It's been too long since our last date."

"Are you sure that's a good idea? Won't Seto be upset?" All Might asked. "He mentioned that you've been crying because of me..."

"That boy is wonderful for worrying about me..." Sora said with a sad smile. "But he's letting his feelings about you cloud his judgment. I know it might not seem like it now but one day he will understand why you made the choices you made. Even if I don't always agree with them, I know that you're always doing what you think is best. Now come on, I'm starving and I want to hear about how your day went for once instead of reading about it in the papers."

"I see..." Sora said as she finished listening to All Might's story. "And since Seto doesn't want your quirk, you're going to give it to the other boy instead?"

"Yes...I came to this city in order to look for a successor while teaching at UA." All Might said. They were both sitting down in a small private booth at a nearby restaurant. They had just finished eating and it was nearing 6pm. "But after seeing that boy display such courage...if my own son won't accept it then young Midoriya will be a worthy successor."

"Toshi...I won't tell you what to do but I will ask you to think about how this will affect your relationship with our son. I know that Seto can be stubborn...he gets that from the both of us. But I just want you to be sure about this Midoriya before you give up on Seto. I know that deep down he still sees you as his hero. After all, I still do."

"Sora..." All Might couldn't believe that this beautiful woman was still in love with him after all these years. He had tears in his eyes and as he reached up to wipe them away, he felt a gentle hand reach out for his other hand. "You know just how to make this old man cry."

"Toshi...you're not that old..." Sora said. "Now come on, let's go get some dessert before you have to go again."

Having been married in secret, All Might and Sora Kamiya had been together for over 20 years. She was also a Pro Hero and while she wasn't working full time, she was pretty popular in her own right. With as many enemies as All Might had, he kept their relationship a secret to the world except for a select few. But it had cost him precious years with his family. And now that he was nearing his retirement, All Might knew that he would have to work hard to train his successor before he ran out of time. And he would also have to make sure to make up with his son.

But as he looked into the eyes of the smiling woman at his side, All Might swore that he would do everything in his power to make sure that he made it up to her. Because she deserved the world.

End of chapter.
