Chapter 27
"Who's the sweetest, little, cutest sweet button of love!"
Santana wasn't sure if she was hearing things or not but that last sentence confirmed that INDEED she wasn't hearing things.
"What the actual hell?" Santana whispered when she passed by the empty Glee club room and saw Sebastian alone, apparently talking to himself. She saw no one else in the room with him. His back was turned so he didn't see her duck closer to the door to spy on him. He seemed in a happy mood.
Then again, maybe not. As she peered into the room, via the door's thin window, she could see that he was sitting there completely alone. He stared down at his belly, stroking it gently, like a doula would on a womb. She watched but couldn't figure anything out. There was Sebastian Smythe, the snarky, snippy, shitty, shifty wasp of a boy who she knew very little about, stroking his belly and...singing? Or was it cooing? Regardless, she didn't comprehend and she hated not understanding, well, anything. It didn't matter if it was Brittany's breasts, or Kurt's lack of facial hair, or even Rachel's strange demeanor. If Santana Lopez didn't understand something, well, that just wouldn't do.
So, she considered pushing the door to the choir room open until she heard something else…
"Just what will I call you, little one?" Sebastian softly asked. He stroked his belly again, and Santana just watched. "Will you be healthy? Will you be happy? I'm sure you will. I will see to it. And Dave and Blaine and Kurt and anyone else will just have to understand that….. I love you."
Santana's eyes widened. There…there was just nothing that made sense. Once again, she considered opening the door. But something inside her told her to wait – she didn't like restraint but she learned long ago to trust her instinct. So, she did.
"If you're a boy, I'll name you…" Sebastian never finished his sentence. And Santana's smile almost broke her face.
"Well, well, well!" Santana yelled as she entered the choir room. She strutted forward just as Sebastian sat up. He stopped touching his body which confused Santana even more but she said nothing after that.
Sebastian paled. He stared at her but reached for his cellphone anyway. He pretended to look up something. "What do you want, Santana?" Sebastian was still looking at his cellphone. He couldn't look at her. His hands shook and Santana noticed this right away. He looked like he was going to drop his phone at any second. His legs trembled. Santana still had no clue what she walked in on but she decided for now, to take it easy on the former Warbler. He just looked so nervous and miserable that she had to ease up which she rarely did. This was different. Sebastian was different. Now that I look at him, did he put on weight? Santana thought when she looked closely and it FINALLY clicked what she had been looking for! She saw it! His secret was underneath her nose and his shirt the entire time! She couldn't believe it! It was unbelievable. It couldn't be! How can this happen? This should be impossible but it was staring at her in the face this whole time. Santana was at a loss for words until Sebastian snapped her out of her thoughts.
"What are you staring at?" Sebastian said as he turned as if someone stole something from him clearly hiding his secret underneath.
"Nothing, I wasn't staring. I was just..." Santana stopped, put her hand through her perfectly tied up ponytail and flipped it to the other side of her shoulder and when she was done with that she then straightened out her Cheerios uniform and sat in a chair in the front row, crossing her legs. She didn't say anything for a few minutes, opting to cross her arms and stare at him as if looking for clues. Sebastian felt nervous, like a billion eyes were watching him. He felt completely vulnerable and naked. He didn't like this. He didn't like this at all.
"Santana!" Sebastian snapped.
She came back in full force, crossing her arms and legs. "Oh! Yes, my dear little former Warbler? And how are you today, you little slut?"
"Shut up."
"Ohhhhh, this is good. This is just too, too good! You know, you should play the lottery. Or maybe you should see the school's nurse. I know plenty of Catholic churches who could take you into their care and feed you to their flock. You can stay there with all of the other fallen, teenage women-"
"Shut up."
"-and line up for free healthcare and prenatal vitamins. Ohhhhh, Sebastian! Just think of it! You can get the best care with the other sluts and focus on more important things in life! Like…." She looked up towards the ceiling and stroked her long throat, "like who the other baby DADDY is!"
"Shut UP, Santana!"
"Oh, no. No, no, no! See, this is what I was born for. THIS is what I was meant to do in life! You see," she stared at him and refolded her arms across her own belly, "I can MUCH more easily sit like this than you can. Hell, I can even ovulate! But you? Ohhhhhh, Sebastian Smythe! You have just made my frigging DAY!"
Her tirade apparently over, he just stared at her, cellphone in one hand, and a darting pain through his abdomen shooting his free hand over it. She noticed but didn't say anything. Instead, she just accepted her bitchy victory and thought about what to do next.
Which apparently was nothing.
Instead, he sat up as best he could, movements becoming increasingly difficult as of late. And when he winced at a particular brutal pain, her smile faltered just a little. She looked down, adjusting her cheerleader skirt a little.
"Have you been to the doctor?" Santana quietly asked.
Sebastian didn't answer.
"Shooting pains aren't exactly normal." She added.
Again, no response. She sighed.
"Have a scan done. And then buy me a lottery ticket. And when you bring it to me and it'll obviously be a winner, knowing the luck YOU have…" she looked at him with almost compassion in her eyes, "tell me that the baby is OK."
Slowly, almost painfully, he looked up at her. But before he could say anything, she bolted out of the chair and galloped towards him. She snatched his hand protecting his abdomen and pulled it up.
"Come on! I have someone I want you to meet."
He didn't move. Well, that just wouldn't do for her.
"Come on, prego! I'm about to show you what's up!"
She didn't seem to be deterred and he knew it. So, laboriously, he got up and half-assed kept up with her. She barely gave him enough time to gather his belongings.
"Where you taking me?" He weakly asked.
"Just come along, boy. That's what's up!" She repeated.
And within a minute, they emerged from McKinley High School. He had no idea where she was headed but he went along for the ride anyway. It's not like he had any plans or any real homework. So, like a waif, he just plodded along with her. And since his destination was unknown, he knew he was headed to somewhere important if Santana Lopez was INSISTING he go with her. And she didn't exactly give him the choice.
So, headed into the world of Lima, Ohio, Sebastian and Santana left. And the destination would fill Sebastian Smythe with the biggest surprise of his life.
Of course, SHE knew that.
.
AN: Thank you guys again! I'll try to be back soon. I'm still not 100% better but I'm getting better with my health. Have a great day!-ILOVESMESOMEGLEE!
