As I ran, I had my stone sword ready to swing. I wasn't too prepared, but at least I had a weapon. Turning the corner, I saw Jamie, with her sword out, a player approaching her, and one aiming a crossbow at her. I noticed the player approaching Jamie, and I got his attention.
"Hey! That's my kill you bitch!" I yelled. The two looked at me in confusion, while Jamie looked at me in disgust.
"Welp… this plan is going to backfire." I thought to myself.
"Tough luck." The crossbow guy said, now aiming it at me. "We were here first, now piss off."
"I'm not going anywhere." I exclaimed, holding my sword out.
We were in a standoff. Neither of us knew what to do, but I knew one thing for sure.
I didn't want to be responsible for Jamie's death.
In the heat of the moment, I charged towards the crossbow guy.
"Hey.. STOP!" The player exclaimed, firing the crossbow in a panic. Bending back quickly, the arrow flew just above my face. Nonetheless, I continued my pursuit. The player dropped his crossbow and pulled out a golden sword, while Jamie caught the player closer to her off guard by burying her iron sword deep into his chest.
He started yelling in agony, but the sounds of pain were quickly drained out by the clacking of swords. He managed to slice my left arm, which hindered my attack ability.
"You're fighting a losing battle!" The guy exclaimed, swinging further. Looking at Jamie, she was now in a sword fight as well.
I remembered how terrible golden tools were, so instead of focusing on hitting the guy, I focused more on delivering my blows on his blade, in hopes it would wear out before he finished me off.
He was able to strike me in more various places. With the erupting pain in my body, it became increasingly harder to deliver more blows to the guy's sword. Jamie saw that I was in trouble, but couldn't do anything about it since she was still dealing with the other guy. I took a quick glance and saw that the other guy had a diamond sword.
"Shit…" I thought to myself. "She's going to get killed if I don't finish this guy off soon…"
I got caught off guard, and the crossbow guy's gold sword slashed deeply across my chest. I stumbled and fell flat on my back, dropping my stone sword in the process.
"You don't give up, do you…" the player said, jamming his foot into my chest to inflict more pain.
I looked towards Jamie, she was heavily beat up, but still fighting. As the player pinning me down was raising his golden sword, I noticed a crack developing in the middle, which sparked an idea.
"WAIT!" I yelled. Sure enough, the guy stopped.
I looked at Jamie. "Do what you want to me. But spare her." I said in a raspy voice. The player took a glance over at his friend, and motioned for him to stop.
The player looked back at me. "Only if she gives up the iron." he bargained.
I looked at Jamie again. "Do it." I suggested. Hesitantly, she pulled the 25 iron ore, and began to hand it over to the guy with the diamond sword. I then made my move.
I reached for my stone sword, and took a violent swing straight into his golden sword, shattering it. I immediately pushed him off of me, as the diamond sword guy approached me, ready to swing. The other player struggled to get up, trying to process what just happened. The other guy's diamond sword dug deep into my shoulder, the pain hurting worse than the golden sword. I groaned in pain.
"Not smart kid, not smart." he said, taking numerous swings at me. I was getting weaker, and it was getting harder to block the hits. And the damage to my stone sword wasn't helping at all. Each time our swords clacked together, the cracks on my sword just got bigger and bigger, while the foe's diamond sword was still in spotless condition. My sword was going to break any minute now, and then this guy would be able to stab me to death, right here and now.
"Is this really how I'm going to die?" I thought to myself, as the opponent damaged my sword more and more.
I was now too focused on the pain in my chest to be able to coordinate my attacks. I was now swinging aimlessly in hopes that they would land somewhere. The guy paused for a second, looking behind me. I heard a noise coming from deeper in the cave. Looking behind me, I saw Jamie running towards the guy with her sword in hand. I moved to the side a bit, and she jammed the sword deep into the guy's back, causing him to stumble and fall. Jamie took a step back, and so did I. The guy began to get up again when…
We heard a heart wrenching scream coming from deep into the cave. I could recognize that sound from anywhere.
"Shit…" I spoke. "That's an enderman, we need to RUN!" I yelled, as Jamie had already begun running up the cave. The enderman teleported to the player with the sword still sticking out his back, and began to attack it, screams erupting from him. I took the opportunity to grab his diamond sword, making sure to look towards the ground. Then I made an immediate beeline towards the exit. Switching the sword out, I was able to catch up with Jamie, as we reached the exit door, it was already closed. I pulled my pickaxe out and started slamming it against the door.
"Come on, come on… break…" I pleaded, as cracks formed around the door. Jamie joined in, hitting the door with her pickaxe as well. It seemed like forever before the iron door finally broke, and we rushed out into darkness. Letting Jamie run ahead of me, I took the door, and placed it back in place, hoping that would disable the flashing light that could possibly attract whatever mobs would be out here. I started to run for my life. I could see a few zombies pursuing me, but they were going too slow to pose a threat. An arrow flew past me as well. I looked ahead of me to see Jamie slowing down. As I caught up, I took some porkchop out to hand to her, figuring her stamina ran out. As I caught up, she snatched it quickly and ate it.
Turning around, the light above the mine doors was still flashing, despite the iron door being put back. Looking back at Jamie, we both started to calm down a bit as we walked into the village.
"What are we going to do about the light?" I asked Jamie.
"Miles will have to go down there and shut it off manually." Jamie explained. "Hopefully he won't be too pissed off that we technically were out mining after dark…"
"I'm sure he would understand if we explained what happened to him." I tried to reassure her. "Oooh, Miles is a lot less understanding than you think." Jamie said. "I'm sure he'll be furious because now he gets to stare at that flashing light the entire night."
As we entered the village, sure enough, Miles was standing outside his house looking at the light in the distance.
"Hey!" He tried to get our attention. "What happened back there? Why is the light flashing?"
"We were mining some ores, then we got ambushed and chased by an enderman." I explained. "We had to break the door, but we put it back into place." Jamie added.
"Why were you there this late in the first place?" Miles asked.
"It was just going to be a quick in and out mining run, but it took an unlucky turn." I explained.
"That doesn't really help your case." Miles said. "If there was the danger of it getting dark out, you shouldn't have even gone out in the first place."
Jamie sighed. "I understand." she replied, surprising me.
"Well, it's dark out right now. Why don't you two just get some rest." Miles suggested.
"I mined some more iron while I was down there, so I'll drop it off in the storage room."
I followed her to the room as she opened the door and stuck the iron ore into one of the chests. Just then I noticed a hopper sitting in the ground under the chest.
"This storage room has an auto smelter? That's cool." I exclaimed.
"Give me the ore you mined." Jamie asked. I quickly handed it over, and she stuck it in the chest as well.
"By the way… what were you trying to pull back there?"
"What do you mean?" I responded.
"The whole "thats my kill!" garbage… were you planning on betraying me or something?"
"Hell no…" I replied. "I just thought… you know, that might have confused the enemy or something."
"Pfft. let's just forget about it." She yawned. "I'm really tired and I just want to sleep."
As we exited the storage room, we walked over to Jamie's house.
As Jamie entered the house, she started going up the stairs.
"Yo!" I called out.
"Can it wait until tomorrow…" she asked.
"I think you're going to want it now…" I replied.
"Wait… Want what?" she said, walking down the stairs slowly.
I pulled the diamond sword out of my inventory, and Jamie's eyes widened.
"Holy shit!" Jamie exclaimed, rushing over to inspect the sword.
"Figure I'd snatch it quickly before running out. You're welcome." I said, handing her the sword.
"Oh, I've already inconvenienced you enough." Jamie replied.
"But I thought you needed one of these… Here's your chance to get one for free…" I argued.
"If I don't work for it, then it has no value to me." Jamie explained.
"Well, if it makes this thing feel any less worthless to you, I'd be dead now if not for your stunt back in that cave." I mentioned. "My sword was actually about to break. You literally saved my ass."
"Well… I told you we got each other's backs." Jamie argued.
"You don't give yourself enough credit…" I said, setting the sword on the counter. "I want you to have it, now good night." I began to walk up the stairs as Jamie approached the sword. Curious, I passed by Erik's room to see if he was asleep. Surprisingly, he was still awake, looking out the window.
"What are you still doing up?" I asked. "I assumed you'd be dead asleep by now."
"I was tending to the farm, and then I was starting to worry about you two because you ended up coming back later than I tho–" Erik looked at the several cuts scattered across my body.
"What the hell happened to you?" he asked.
"We got ambushed in the mine." I answered. "I'll be okay. Jamie's fine too."
"Well just in case…" Erik opened his chest and got out some carrots.
"Take some." He said, tossing them to me.
"Thanks." I said, eating the carrots to refill my health bar.
"Is Jamie okay?" Erik followed up
"Yea, I made sure she was okay before I came up here" I explained. "She's downstairs now."
"What happened down there? I thought you were supposed to be back before sundown." Erik asked.
"We got ambushed by 2 players trying to steal our stuff, then they attacked us both. Then we got chased by an enderman." I answered.
"Damn…" Erik responded.
"That's all you got? "Damn?" I replied, slightly annoyed. "I almost fuckin died!"
"Well, I'm glad you're alive…" Erik replied, yawning. "Is Jamie heading up to bed or something?"
"I don't know what she's doing." I exclaimed, "probably enchanting that sword I gave her."
"Okay, let me get this straight. First, you helped her pay for an enchanted book, and now, you give her a free sword? What's gotten into you?" Erik asked.
"I want to maintain our friendship." I explained. "The more allies we have, the higher chance we have for survival."
"While you do have a point, I think I know the real reason." Erik replied.
"And what might that be?"
"Sounds like somebody is a giant SIMP!" Erik called out.
I left the room, slamming the door behind me.
As I was heading to my room, Jamie came up the stairs. Sure enough, she had used that enchanted book on the diamond sword, as it was now shimmering and glowing a dark purple.
She passed by me without saying a word, and walked into her room, shutting the door behind her.
I didn't think too much of it, and I decided to head to bed as well.
"What a night…" I thought to myself, laying on the bed and slowly drifting off to sleep.
