A/N: So...sorry for the long wait. This chap is going to be a two part, and here is part I
-A MUST READ WARNING-
this chapter involves death of young children, and I will mark those parts out in the text (as "starting of the video" and "end of the video"). If you don't think you can handle those scene, please do not read them. There is a summary of this chap at the end of the page, you can scroll down and read that instead. I am sorry for the horrible scenes, but it's for the story.
-END OF THE WARNING-
Chapter 30 - Hello, Bo: Part I
8:30pm - Bo's Place
Bo had cleared her throat a few times, before she eventually sat down next to Kenzi, who was focusing on playing video games and yelling, "Die you sucka die!"
"Emmm...Kenzi..," Bo said as she took Kenzi's headset off, "Kenz, I kinda have something to tell you..."
"Shoot sis," Kenzi replied, but her eyes were still staring at the TV screen. She sucked her lollipop as she killed another enemy in the game.
"Emmm...it's something that we need to talk about without distractions," Bo said.
Kenzi paused and looked at Bo with her eyebrows furrowed. Ignoring her character being slayed in the game, she analyzed the look on Bo's face and murmured, "Ok, not sad, which means detective Valkybitch didn't dump you...something that makes you both nervous and excited...Oh my God! Show me, show me the bling!"
Bo sighed as she dropped her head on the couch. "No, she didn't propose...Plus, do you see me wearing a ring?"
"Fine, no ring, no fun," Kenzi said as she chewed her twizzlers. "So what is it that you want to talk about, Bo-bo?"
"Emmm...Tamsin and I decided that...we...emmm...we are going to move in together," Bo said after a long pause.
Kenzi was just sitting there, staring at Bo for a few seconds, before she pressed her palm to her chest and smiled. "Oh, Bo-bolicious," she said, tears welling up in her eyes, "my girl is finally growing up to be a responsible woman! I am so happy for you!" Hugging Bo tightly, she repeated, "Oh, I'm so happy for you!"
"Thanks, Kenzi," Bo said with a smile on her face as she patted her lightly.
After a few seconds, Kenzi pulled back and asked, "So, are you gonna move to her apartment, or is she gonna move to our death trap?"
"We are thinking about looking for a new place," Bo said.
"Oh great, 'cause as much as I love you Bo-bo, I can only take so much of that enthusiastic nightlife you guys have..." Kenzi said. "And seriously, Tamsin steals my food every time she gets off from her late night shifts. And, she always fights for the TV with me when she's here waiting for you. And, she sneers at my video game skills. My video game skills!"
"Wow, I didn't know you had so much to diss about her," Bo said, raising her eyebrows.
Kenzi rolled her eyes. Then she murmured, "Well, she does throw me a blanket or a jacket when I fall asleep on the couch..."
"Ha, I didn't know about that either..." Bo frowned. Then she paused for a second or two, and continued, "Anyway, what I was gonna say is, we actually want to know you if you want to move in with us. I mean, of course, some place with sound proof walls, separate bathrooms, a big kitchen, all that kinda shit."
"Awww..." Kenzi said, frowning a little because she was really moved by Bo's proposal, "I can't tell you how much I appreciate that offer, but I'm gonna say, nooooo."
"Why? Because of our night life?" Bo asked, "Or because she steals your food."
"Well, that would be reasons number one and two. Reason three would be...I think that since you two are moving in together, you deserve an entirely private environment, you know, like all lovers do. So, you can do your lovey-dovey-cuddly-smoochy shit without me staring at you guys while eating my cereal."
"Yeah, it does sound weird when you put it that way..." Bo nodded.
"...but the major reason is..." Kenzi said as she moved closer to Bo, her hands holding Bo's, "Bo-bo, I know that you love officer Slamersin very much, and I know that bitch will die for ya if she has too, but...you know, she's Tamsin. Sometimes, she can be...a real bitch. What if like one day you just can't take her bitchy, bossy crap anymore, and you decide to storm out. Where are you gonna go? Are you gonna run back to D-man? Or sleep on the street? No, of course not! You are gonna come to Mama Kenzi's happy death trap shack, and I'll make you a shit ton of drinks, and we'll diss about detective Sugartongue. Then the next morning, she's gonna crawl back here begging you to come home with her, and I am gonna eat popcorn while I watch that precious, precious moment."
"Yeah, I doubt she'll crawl back and beg..." Bo said, not being able to hold back her chuckles.
"Oh, believe me, she will," Kenzi said, "I see how she looks at you. She's fully, totally, solely, entirely, absolutely in love with you. That chick ain't gonna lose those sweet lips or yours, never. If you storm out, she's totally gonna crawl back and beg you to forgive her. And, when that happens, you better make her beg hard, 'cause I need my entertainment."
"Are you sure?" Bo asked, "I understand that you don't want to live under the same roof with us, but we can get an apartment for you next door or something."
"Oh, apartments are for losers, babe," Kenzi waved her hands as she sneered, "For a Goth gansta like me, there's no place better than this place. Plus, this is like our first home, Bo-bo. It's our mother ship, right?"
Bo smiled with a warm feeling filling her heart. "Right," she nodded, taking the Russian girl into her arms, "Then I'd happily name you as the Captain."
"Wait, have I not been the Captain for all this time?" Kenzi frowned.
Bo laughed as she kissed her best friend on her cheek. Kenzi laughed too. Then she sighed and said, "Wow, can't believe I have tears in my eyes...I mean, I can totally crash at your place anytime I want, right? And I get to keep your back-up keys, right?"
"Yes, and yes," Bo said, smiling, "But seriously, this place is not safe for you alone, Kenzi..."
"Oh relax," Kenzi said leaning back on the couch, "Vex crashes here all the time. You think anyone will be crazy enough to mess with the Mesmer? Also, Brucy says he may need a larger place, and I was actually thinking of dragging him down here 'cause we have a lot of free space...who's gonna mess with Bruce? That guy is adorable! Then there's Dyson, and Hale..."
"Ok, no need to go through the names in our harem with me," Bo teased, "but, are you really sure you are gonna be Ok here by yourself?"
"Yes, sister. In case you've forgotten, I survived on the streets by myself quite successfully before I met you," Kenzi assured her. Then she thought about something for a moment, before she said, "But...if I can't get to sleep after a horror movie, when I call you, you'd come over, right?"
"Of course," Bo laughed as she hugged Kenzi again.
11:00pm - Bo's Place
"So, how did Kenzi take it?" Tamsin asked Bo as she embraced her in bed, "Or have you still not told her?"
"She took it pretty well, and she said no to moving in with us."
"Really?" Tamsin frowned, "She chose this death trap over some big, new place?"
"Well, she has her reasons," Bo said as she laid a light kiss on the Valkyrie's lips.
"Like?"
"She seemed pretty convinced that sooner or later, you are gonna piss me off so badly that I'm gonna storm out and come back here."
"Really?" Tamsin raised her eyebrows as she caressed Bo's face, "Wow, I can get rid of you that easily?"
"Hey, don't say it like I will never be mad at you, Tamsin," Bo warned her.
"Sweetheart, here's what I'm gonna do when you are mad at me..." Tamsin whispered to her, "...I'm gonna pin you down to the bed, rip your pants off, and fuck you the way you've always loved, over and over again, until you forgive me..."
"Oh, so since I'm a Succubus you think every problem between us can be solved with sex?"
"Never hurts to have some rough, angry sex first..." Tamsin said as she rolled on top of Bo, "then I'll make you breakfast in bed, and hold you in my arms..."
"Well...I think I'm kinda mad at you right now..," Bo murmured, her fingers caressing Tamsin's arm.
Tamsin chuckled. She pinned Bo's hands down tightly beside her head. "Rough and angry it is then..."
Just when their lips met, Tamsin's phone rang. She rolled her eyes and cursed, "If it's not the damn wolf I'm gonna go buy a lottery ticket tonight," She grunted as she took the call.
Bo grinned at her evilly, rolling on top of the blonde when she was on her phone. She spread her legs and smothered her core with her lips, before Tamsin could even react.
"You fucking..." Tamsin hissed in a low voice, staring at Bo. She wanted to push her away, but the moment Bo's tongue licked hard through her center, she fell back to the bed and sighed. She hung up and threw the phone aside, before closing her eyes to let herself drown in the extreme pleasure.
12:10am - Police Station
"Finally you two are here," Dyson said as he waved at them.
"Sorry," Tamsin smirked, "It takes forever to drag this one..." her eyes moving to Bo, "...off the bed."
Bo rolled her eyes at the blonde. "I wasn't the one screaming for more," she whispered to her in a barely audible voice.
"You will be later tonight," Tamsin whispered back. Then, she turned to Dyson and asked, "So, where's the fire, wolfy?"
Dyson sighed as he took out the case file. Both Bo and Tamsin frowned when they realized how hesitant and serious he was.
"What is it, Dyson?" Bo asked.
"It's...emm...we just got a 911 call, and..." Dyson sighed and paused a long time, before he continued, "...it was a home invasion, one victim took a gunshot to the head and died before the paramedics arrived..."
Tamsin furrowed her eyebrows and turned to Bo, who was staring at her confused too. They both realized that apparently Dyson had a very hard time describing the crime scene to them.
"Is the victim someone we know?" Tamsin asked.
"No," Dyson shook his head, "But the victim was...only 6 years old."
"Someone shot a kid in the head?!" Bo exclaimed in shock.
"Apparently, not only did he murder the kid in cold blood, but in front his mother and his brother as well. He also videotaped the whole thing..," Dyson said as he took out a flash drive from the folder, "You two can watch it here. I need to get some air."
12:30am - Police Station
"Promise me I will get a lot of cuddles tonight..." Bo murmured before she clicked the play button.
"Hey..." Tamsin said holding her tight in her arms, "If you don't want to watch it, just leave it to me. I've seen a lot of horrible stuff throughout my many lifetimes, so..."
"Oh, no, you are not gonna ditch me..." Bo said as she tucked herself closer to the Valkyrie, "We are gonna watch this shit together."
After Bo hit the play button, Tamsin put her arms around her, as if she was her guardian angel.
-STARTING OF THE VIDEO-
The video seemed to be taken by a phone in someone's living room. A young woman sat next to the coffee table, crying, begging. Two young boys, who looked very much alike, sat by her side. They were too young and too shocked to even cry. They just sat there in silence, staring at whoever it was holding a gun. There were a few bullet holes on the floor around them, and it looked like they had been fired deliberately to maintain control over them.
The killer turned to face the phone in the middle of the video, and Bo thought he was going to say something, maybe to explain why he was doing this, or to taunt whoever was watching the video, but he didn't say anything. The killer appeared to be a man, his face covered by a pure white mask on his face, with two holes cut out for the eyes. It looked creepy, almost making him look like an alien. A few seconds later, he turned back, and pointed the gun at one of the boys.
Bo turned her face away, but she didn't hear the gunshot as she had expected. She just heard the mother screaming, begging the man to let her boys go. She turned back to the screen, and realized that the man was now switching his gun rapidly between the two boys.
"Choose one," He said with a low, menacing voice. The mother shook her head crazily, choking back tears. She took both kids into her embrace, and begged over and over again.
"Choose one," The man repeated again coldly, pressing his gun onto one of the boy's forehead, "Or I'll kill both."
The woman trembled as she held her sons tightly. "No," she answered, "No..."
"Him?" the man pointed his gun at the boy on the right, "Or, him?" He moved to the one on the left. "Whichever you choose, I'll let him live," he paused, "You have ten seconds."
"No, No!" The mother pleaded as she held both boys tighter. She was overwhelmed by so much fear, that she didn't even try to fight back, or run.
The man huffed out a light laugh and grabbed the collar of the boy on the right, trying to pull him out. Then he did the same to the one on the left. "Ahh," he said as he pointed at the kid on the right, "Seems that you hold him tighter. You say you love both the same, but you don't."
Then there was a gunshot. Abrupt. Loud. After a few seconds of absolute silence, the woman collapsed on the floor, sobbing. The boy left alive finally started to scream.
"Be thankful for your mother, child," the man said as he caressed the boy's head. "She chose you over your brother."
Then, he crouched down beside the dead child, closed his eyes, and put his arms on his chest, as if he was just sleeping. He kneeled there for a few seconds, before he said to the dead boy in a soft voice, "You don't have to suffer anymore."
Then he turned to the camera on himself again, like he was making sure someone was watching, before he dipped his fingers into the dead boy's blood. Using the blood, he wrote on the wall, Kill me now, so I don't have to suffer anymore. The video focused on those words for a few seconds, before it ended.
-END OF THE VIDEO-
Bo felt the cold sweat on her back and palms, and she felt sick. Normally, when they had a crime scene video, they would watch it over and over again, until they had exhausted all clues, but this time, Bo couldn't bring herself to watch it for a second time. She just couldn't.
2:00am - Bo's Place
Rolling back and forth on her bed for the hundredth time, Bo finally realized there was no way she could ever fall asleep tonight. Every time she closed her eyes, the image of the boy's blood splatter on his brother and mother appeared in her mind.
Bo heard Tamsin sigh, before she was taken into the blonde's warm embrace. "Are you alright?" Tamsin whispered.
Bo shook her head. "No," she said in a low voice, "I'm just...shocked, I guess. How could anyone just...do that?"
"Monsters have always been among us," Tamsin replied, "He's just one of them."
"You said you've seen a lot of horrible stuff..." Bo murmured as she cupped Tamsin's face, "...do you dream about them? Aren't you scared?"
"Sometimes," Tamsin said, "And, it's worse when you wake up alone at night...but, I have you now...so..."
Bo leaned over and gave the blonde a kiss on her lips. She rested her forehead on the blonde's shoulder with her eyes closed. Suddenly she just felt fragile, as if she couldn't stand being alone anymore.
"Don't leave me, Tamsin..." she whispered, "don't ever leave me..."
"Why would you think I'd ever leave you?" Tamsin asked her.
"I'll take that as a promise," Bo murmured, snuggling closer to the blonde.
"Get some rest, sweetheart," Tamsin whispered to the brunette as she tightened her grip. "Tomorrow, we will start our hunt for this monster."
9:00am - Police Station
"By that shitty look on your face, I suppose you two watched the video?" Dyson asked Bo after she and Tamsin arrived at the precinct.
"Yeah..." Bo said, "pretty horrible. Do we have any leads now?"
"Yes and no," Dyson said, "I thought the phone which took the video would give us a lead, but no, it's the mother's phone, and the killer left it there."
"But, you got the video several hours after the shooting. Why did it take so long to get the video."
"Yeah, the neighbors heard the gunshot, and they called the police. But when the police arrived, the mother was too broken down to talk. It was hours later when they found the phone with the video on it."
"Any clues on where the killer went after the shooting, or where he came from?"
"Not really," Dyson said. "It was raining heavily when it happened, and that was why the neighbors didn't hear the first few gunshots...the CSU is still processing the scene. Maybe they can find a footprint or something."
"But, unless we have anything to match it with, it won't do shit," Tamsin said frustrated, "then there are bullets, but we need a gun to compare them to."
"How's the mother and the other kid?" Bo asked.
"Not doing well," Dyson said, "the kid has not talked since his brother died, and his mother isn't any better."
"Do you think I should talk to them?" Bo asked.
"Maybe later," Dyson said, "they've gone through too much."
Bo nodded. She wanted to say something else, but before she did, Tamsin turned to Dyson and asked, "You said yes and no to my question about leads, which means there is some lead?"
"Yes, there might be," Dyson said as he pointed at the interrogation room. "Someone came to the precinct just before you two arrived."
"Wow, confidential informant?" Tamsin asked, raising her eyebrows.
"No. He's a retired homicide detective. He saw this on the news, and he came to us to help."
"Help how?" Tamsin frowned.
"He said he had a case fifteen years ago. The killer broke into someone's house, murdered one child and left. He was also wearing a mask. And, he asked the mother to choose, just like our killer."
"So, it's the same guy!" Bo exclaimed, "I can't believe this! He committed more than one crime like this?!"
"Anyway, let's go talk to him, see what he knows."
10:00am - Interrogation Room 1
"Thanks for coming..." Dyson said, reaching his hand out to the old man, who was sitting inside the interrogation room..
"Rick," the man replied, with a simple nod while shaking Dyson's hand. Then, he reached his hand out to Tamsin and Bo, "Ladies," he said as he shook their hands, bowing a little.
Bo smiled at him and sat down. Tamsin sat down beside her.
"Unusual to see three cops working together," Rick commented. Then, his eyes fell on Bo. He observed Bo for a few seconds, then he said, "Ah, you are not a cop. You are with her," his eyes looked at Tamsin.
"Wow, what gave me away?" Bo frowned.
"The way you sit around the interrogation table tells me you are not a cop," Rick said calmly, "and, she sits extremely close to you, but also it is the way she looks at you..."
Bo rolled her eyes, and Tamsin chuckled.
"Bo, sometimes consults on our cases," Dyson explained. "She's a Succubus, very persuasive."
"Ahh, rare," Rick nodded. Then, he rested his arms on the table, and said, "show me the video."
"How do you know there's a video?" Dyson asked. "That detail wasn't leaked to the press."
"If it's my guy, there's gotta be a video," Rick said.
"So, you had a video on your case too?" Tamsin asked.
"Yes, and I brought it with me," Rick said as he handed a CD case to Tamsin.
" 'll watch your video, while you watch ours," Dyson said, "we'll be in the other interrogation room, in case you need any of us."
11:00am - Interrogation Room 2
The video from Rick was lower quality, but it was clear enough to see what happened.
The moment Bo and Tamsin saw the killer, they both said "that's not our guy" because the man was much taller than the killer in their case. But, he was also wearing a mask and holding a gun, threatening a mother who protected two children.
-STARTING OF THE VIDEO-
"Choose one," the man said, "or I'll kill both."
The mother cried, begged, and pleaded, for her childrens' lives, yet the man was not moved at all. Just like the video they had already watched, the man grabbed the collar of the boy on the right, trying to pull him out. Then, he did the same to the one on the left.
Then, he laughed in a low, satisfied voice. "Ahh," he said as he pointed at the kid on the left, "Seems that you hold him tighter. You say you love both the same, but you don't."
"No! No!" the mother screamed as she covered the boy on the left. The man laughed slyly, and shot the boy on the right.
Bo flinched and closed her eyes when she heard the gunshot. Tamsin put her arm around her shoulder to comfort her. Bo opened her eyes again to continue watching.
The killer get down on one knee and caressed the living boy's hair. "Too bad, your mother chose your brother over you," he said, "it doesn't feel good when you find out she likes your brother more, does it?" Then, he turned to the mother, who was completely breaking down, and said, "I did you a favor. The child you favored doesn't have to suffer anymore."
Then he walked out, but the video was still going. The mother cried in anguish, while the little boy sat there numbly, staring at his dead brother.
-END OF THE VIDEO-
11:30am - Dyson's Desk
"It's not my guy," was the first thing Rick said after he finished watching the video.
"We are thinking the same thing," Tamsin said. "These two cases were committed by two different people."
"A copy cat?" Dyson asked.
"Could be," Rick said, "whoever your killer is, knows about this case. He knows a lot of details about the case..."
"Maybe he knew the killer," Dyson said, "your guy committed one crime, and then he stopped. Maybe he was arrested for something else. Maybe his cellmate, or someone he knows well heard him bragging about his case, and decided to commit the same crime."
"Doesn't really make much sense though," Tamsin said, "It's just...well I guess we could follow that lead. How about you go figure out the older killer's timeline, and see if any arrest record matches that. She and I can go check out the old case file, see if something comes up."
"Of course," Dyson nodded before he left.
"Maybe I can talk to the victims in your case?" Bo asked Rick, "I mean...maybe there's some clue that can connect to our guy?"
"I wouldn't bother," Rick said. "The mother couldn't forgive herself for unconsciously choosing one of her boys. She eventually killed herself because of that guilt. The father indulged himself in alcohol, until he killed himself in a DUI."
"What about that boy who survived?" Bo asked.
"Traumatized. He watched his twin brother die, and also he found out that his mother loved him less. That was a lot for a seven year old to digest. He went through foster care after foster care, until he left the last one when he was 15. Then, I never heard anything about him again," Rick said, shaking his head.
"Well, I guess we'll go through the old case files first," Tamsin said, nodding at Rick, "thanks for your help."
8:30pm - Tamsin's Apartment
"Great, now we have two monsters out there, and we couldn't even catch one," Bo said as she read through the case files.
"This case is weird though..." Tamsin said as she looked through the crime scene photos. "It feels...too specific, too private...asking a mother to choose her favorite child, and then to kill them?"
"Well, Rick's killer did, but our killer killed the less favored child, which is the opposite," Bo said.
"What I don't really get is...after this ruthless, insane murder, our killer suddenly shows remorse by positioning the kid as if he was putting him to sleep, and then closing his eyes? The way he told him that he didn't have to suffer anymore...it sounded like he really thought he was doing that child a favor."
"Right, that's the part that throws me off too," Bo said, "Rick's killer killed the more favored child, because he thought the less favored was punished by living in the nightmare of his mother not picking him. Then, he put the parents in a nightmare because the mother thought she was responsible for her son's death because she inadvertently chose him to die. But our killer...did the opposite thing...what kind of copycat is that?"
"But the things they said during the murder were exactly the same," Tamsin said, "our guy is definitely copying Rick's killer."
"And, what's about that writing? Rick's guy didn't write anything on the wall."
"Typical. Sometimes the killers can't control themselves, but they somehow know it's not right. They actually want people like us to catch them."
"So, this guy actually wants us to catch him?" Bo frowned. She read the words the killer wrote on the wall from the crime scene photo. "Kill me now, so I don't have to suffer anymore...its the exact same thing he said to the boy after he killed him..."
Tamsin paused when she heard that. She took the photo from Bo's hand and read it carefully a few times. "It does," she said, "it sounds like he knew what the boy had suffered. I mean...the way he said it to him, like he was relating himself to him..."
"Well, how could he have possibly suffered the same thing?" Bo asked, "I mean, who could have possibly suffered the same thing?"
"There is one. The boy who survived in Rick's case," Tamsin said, "he suffered the same pain, watching his brother die, and living in the nightmare that his mother didn't choose him..."
"You think he did it?!" Bo exclaimed, "how could anyone who went through that horrible nightmare make someone else suffer the same agony?"
"What if to him death is not a misery, but a relief? What if he constantly thinks that all the pain would have ended if he was the one who had died that day? "
"You watch way too much criminal minds crap," Bo said, shaking her head.
"Well, who else knows all the details about this case?" Tamsin asked. "Think, Bo. Most of the details were not released to the press, according to Rick. Who else could have possibly known those exact words Rick's guy said during the murder? Who else could have possibly known how he determined who was the less favored one?"
Bo raised her eyebrows in shock. "Oh wow, you are crazy, but I think I'm gonna agree with you. We need to find this guy, wherever he is."
Ok, here's the summary of this chapter:
Bo and Tamsin were working on a case where a child was shot in front of his mother and his twin brother. Then a retired detective showed up and told them he had worked on a very similar case 15 years ago, where a boy was shot in front of his mother and his twin brother. Based on the evidence, the crime scene video, and the behavior of the killer, Tamsin and Bo figured out that the killers were different in each case, and their killer might be the child who survived the shooting 15 years ago.
Thanks for all who is still patiently waiting for the updates of this story. I will try to update every 3-4 weeks. Hopefully I'd have more time writing this story when I finish By Your Side.
