Chapter 31 - Hello, Bo: Part II

2:20am - Bo's Place

Bo growled when she heard her cell phone ring. She hugged the Valkyrie, who was nestled in her embrace in bed, tighter in her half conscious state before she reached for her phone.

"Dyson… what?" Bo grunted in a low voice.

"You two gotta come over to the precinct," Dyson said, "we've just made the arrest."

Hearing that, Bo sat bolt upright in bed. "Be right there," she said before she hung up the phone.

"...running away after our hot sex… hmmmm... guess your Succubus nature is finally kicking in?" Tamsin said in a soft, dreamy voice. Her arms were loosely wrapped around Bo's waist as she laid a kiss on the brunette's back and asked, "progress on the case?"

"Apparently they've got our killer," Bo replied as she jumped up from the bed and grabbed her pants to put them on. "We need to go now!"

"Finally! It's been three days, and I thought it was gonna be one of those unsolved cases forever..." Tamsin said as she sat up, looking for her clothes. "Where the fuck is my thong..." she murmured as she looked for that piece of underwear in their bed.

"Wooo… tough question. Either behind the couch downstairs or somewhere in the kitchen," Bo giggled as she opened a drawer in her dresser. "Just wear one of mine or you can go commando."

"Right, like I want a fully turned on, blue eyed Succubus with her charms and hormones raging the precinct," Tamsin teased her, quickly putting on some clothes. Then, she paused a second or two, when she looked through Bo's underwear drawer. "How come half of your pantie collection actually belongs to me?!" she asked as she grabbed one to wear.

"Well, apparently you leave them here and I wash them with mine and...I wear yours when I leave your place sometimes too," Bo said, throwing Tamsin her jacket.

"You little lingerie thief..." Tamsin murmured, kissing Bo on her lips.

"Really, I am the thief? Wanna bet how many of my underwears are at your place?" Bo asked, her eyebrows raised.

"You are welcome to look through my collection later, but now we have to go," Tamsin smiled as she took Bo's hand in hers.

3:00am - Police Station

"How did you find him?" Bo asked Dyson, who stood outside the interrogation room window. She took a glance inside and saw a young man sitting in there calmly, with no facial expressions on his face. He was staring at the table for the entire time.

"Rick had several photos of the survivor child as a teenager before he ran away from his foster home and disappeared," Dyson said, "the tech team used that to create an aged model of him and searched through all the databases. We got several hits, but the DNA comparison confirmed him as that kid."

"So, he is really our killer?" Tamsin asked.

"Yep," Dyson said, handing her the profile of the suspect.

"Got solid evidence?" Tamsin asked as she grabbed the and started to read, "if not, we better get some before some annoying lawyer shows up and takes him away."

"Found the murder weapon in his apartment with his prints and the victim's blood on it. No alibi during the crime time. Bleached clothes in his dryer, which is a match to the video. Then, we found the mask, which is also a match to the video. Also, he works in a restaurant where the victim's family had gone to once or twice a month...possibly it's where he met them and chose them as the victims."

"Well, enough for me to convict him, but...his lawyer can argue that the weapon was planted, and then the other things won't even hold up in court," Tamsin said. "We need a fucking confession. We need him to say it out loud. And we need to know why he did it."

"That's what I am here for, isn't it?" Bo said as she opened the door to the interrogation room.

3:30am - Interrogation Room

The moment Bo walked in, the guy turned to face her. When she saw that emotionless, almost robot-like face, Bo cleared her throat so she could feel more comfortable. She sat down on the opposite side of the table, and reached her hand out for his.

An almost invisible smile appeared on the guy's face, when Bo's charm got pushed through his skin. Somehow that smile creeped Bo out because other than the curl of his lips, his eyes were stone cold.

Ignoring that feeling, Bo pushed more charms while she asked, "tell me your name..."

"Monsters don't have names," the guy said calmly, as if he wasn't charmed at all.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Bo asked, frowning.

"Here's a riddle for you, Bo," the guy said in a low, soft voice, his eyes staring at Bo.

When Bo heard her name pop out from the man's mouth, a cold, bizarre feeling seized her heart. She paused there, not sure what to say next. Before she made up her mind, the man continued, "among the two, one of them is a monster. Now, I am asking you, who is the monster?"

Bo froze there, creeped out by his indifferent voice, weird smile, and approaching face. But what creeped her out the most, was his weird question. Somehow it made her feel like she was staring at a dark abyss that was about to devour her. She opened her mouth, but couldn't say anything. Then, she saw the man stand up, magically freeing himself from the cuffs.

Before Bo reacted, Tamsin rushed in with a few other officers. The Valkyrie wrapped Bo in her arms and shielded her from the guy, while the other officers subdued him.

Bo let out a deep breath in Tamsin's embrace, but then she opened her eyes wide and gasped, when she saw the guy grabbed an officer's gun.

"No!" Bo exclaimed, struggling in Tamsin's arms, trying to stop whatever would happen next. But she just didn't have enough time. The guy grinned at her when he pointed the gun at his own temple. "Here's a message from him. I'll see you soon, Bo." he said when he fired the shot.

"No!" Bo yelled, watching the blood splatter on the wall. The officers panicked for a few seconds, before they calmed down and called for help.

"The Master..." Tamsin murmured as she turned around to look at the mess. Then, she turned back to the brunette, who was completely in shock, and asked, "Bo, are you Ok?"

Bo shook her head, then she nodded, then she shook her head again, in silence. She looked at Tamsin, not being able to say a single word. She just wrapped her arms around her Valkyrie's neck, burying her face into her shoulder.

4:30am - Police Station

"Damn, I just went downstairs to get some coffee, and this happened," Dyson said, shaking his head, his eyes staring at the paramedics who were checking the body.

"Months of nothing and BAM. The Master showed up again, right in front of my face. And this time, with his avatar killer and that poor kid as the victims," Bo said.

Tamsin rubbed Bo's arm lightly, giving her a light kiss on her temple. Then, she said, "well, now we know the Master is behind this case, and he somehow turned this kid into a killer, just like he did with the other victims/killers on those copycat cases, Jack the ripper, the black dahlia...and now this..."

"Strange though," Dyson said, his eyebrows furrowed, "Rick's case wasn't nearly as high profile as the other two. Why did he choose this case to copy? How did he even know this kid?"

"How did he find all the other killers/victims?" Tamsin retorted, "they must have something in common. Something we haven't found yet. They have to know the Master somehow." Then, she turned to Bo when she noticed that the brunette was frowning. "What's wrong?" she asked, concerned.

"I don't know, it's just...this one is so strange," Bo said after a while of silence, "it feels...so personal..."

"What do you mean?" Dyson asked.

"I don't know. I can't really describe it, but when I was in there with him, the things he said to me, the way he said it, the way he called my name, it almost felt like the Master was talking to me through him. It just felt like...he knew me or something, like the whole thing was some sort of...game between us..."

"Well, from his first case...the one he framed you for murder, which later turned out to be a Qarinah, we've already known that he knows you well," Tamsin said, "our problem now is...how do we find this guy?"

"Or, more like, how did our killer meet him? How did all the other killers he manipulated meet him?"

"Well in that black dahlia case, the killers were sorta following some instructions from an anonymous online blog..." Bo said. "We've contacted the Boston PD after that a few times, but they hit dead ends on tracing the blog too..."

"I'll tell the tech team to do some follow up on that blog and see if our killer visited there before," Dyson said.

"I'll take her home," Tamsin said, her eyes looking at Bo, "and we'll go through his profile again later to see if we can find something useful."

Dyson nodded, before he left for the tech team.

5:30am - Bo's Place

"What exactly does the Master guy want from me?" Bo asked as she threw her jacket onto the chair next to her bed.

"We'll figure it out," Tamsin said, holding Bo from behind. "You ok?"

"Well, I just watched a guy blow his head off in front of me. I know he killed that kid, but... I kinda feel sorry for him...'cause he was manipulated," Bo said. "This Master guy has to have a way to get in contact with these people...I mean...and how the hell could he manipulate them like that?"

"Well, there is certain black magic, potions, talismans, and a variety of other things used to control people like that, then..." Tamsin said as she slowly peeled off Bo's clothes and tucked her under the blanket with herself, "...there's these crazy leaders who have zealots blindly following them..."

"You think the Master is one of those people?"

"You've gotta be pretty insane and crazy to orchestra all these, Ok?" Tamsin replied, her hands caressing Bo's cheeks.

"I just feel that...everything this guy has done...is somehow related to me," Bo said, "I mean...he framed me and told me it was a test run. Then, he threw out those two horrible copycat cases, which happened to take place in this town. Then this...is he trying to send me a message or something?"

"Yeah, the message reads Look at me, I am fucking crazy," Tamsin rolled her eyes. Then, she put her arm around Bo's waist and said, "get some sleep. We'll work on this case tomorrow."

Bo nodded, closing her eyes after laying a kiss on the Valkyrie's chest.

10:00am - Bo's Place

"Coffee?" Tamsin asked Bo as she stood in the kitchen. She downed her coffee before she got an apple from the fridge.

"No. I'll just kiss my hot Valkyrie, and I'll be fine," Bo murmured, lying down on the couch with files of the killer in her hand.

"Your hot Valkyrie needs to have her caffeine rush before she can power you up," Tamsin teased as she sat down on the floor beside Bo. She took Bo's hand in hers and rested her head on the couch cushion, right below Bo's chest. Chewing her apple, she caressed the back of Bo's hand with her thumb.

Bo intertwined her fingers with the blonde's and held her hand tighter. Then ,she said, "going through his files...there could be like hundreds of people he has met before, in his foster cares, at work...How the hell are we gonna find this Master guy?"

"Well, we can interview all people he had met in the past, or-" Tamsin replied, chewing her fruit,"-we can go to his place first and check to see if there's some clue."

2:00pm - The Killer's Apartment

"He doesn't...have many things..." Bo said when she entered his place. It was a small apartment, with only a few pieces of essential furniture. There were barely any decorations anywhere.

"Must be moving a lot. It's easier if you don't own anything," Tamsin said. She looked through his mail on the side table next to the door, but only found some junk mail.

Bo raised her eyebrows and stared at the blonde. "Speaking from your own experience?"

Tamsin rolled her eyes. "As a former mercenary, obviously it was hard for me to settle down at one place for long."

"Really? Then how about now?" Bo asked.

"Gee, I think you should be able to answer that question youself, since you are holding half of my underwear as hostages," Tamsin smirked. Then, she opened the door to the bedroom.

Bo checked the nightstand but didn't find anything other than a bunch of pills. "The tech team took his computer away?"

"Yeah, they took it for things that can connect him to that blog...but I told them to leave the other things here as is, so we can take a look first," Tamsin said. Then, she flipped through a few pages of the calendar on the wall, and said, "hmmm...look, he circled out one day each month here, but didn't say what he was doing that day, or who he was meeting."

"Could be some memorial day of his?" Bo guessed.

"Once a year would be more plausible, but once a month? It's not on the exact same day, but around that day...maybe it's some kind of appointment date."

"Well, let's find out," Bo said as she took a phone book out from the desk drawer. Then, she took out her cellphone and started to dial all the numbers in the phonebook.

4:00pm - The Killer's Apartment

"Found it," Bo said after she hung up the phone. "It's his monthly appointment with his shrink, Sam Tether, which is good, 'cause he probably poured every shit of his to him. But he said he can't talk through the phone. We need to go pay him a visit"

"I have my night shift today, and I'm already late on some witness interview," Tamsin sighed as she looked at the time, "maybe tomorrow?"

"Well, I can go check it out first," Bo said, "or are you suggesting that I can't do anything without my Valkyrie?"

Tamsin laughed. "If you want to go take a look first, I'm fine with it, but be careful, Ok?"

"Yeah, I don't think this Master guy wants me dead, at least not now. So..." Bo replied, "anyway, I'll drop by the station later."

"Bring some take out food when you come over," Tamsin winked at her.

5:00pm - Mental Health Clinic

The receptionist led Bo into the doctor's office, before he shyly moved his eyes away from Bo's face and went back to his desk.

In the office, Bo saw a handsome looking man smiling at her behind his desk. He looked about the same age as her, and his smile made Bo feel somewhat warm and relaxed.

"Hi, I'm Sam," the man greeted Bo. He walked to her and gave her a firm handshake, "and you must be the famous unaligned Succubus, Bo."

Bo smiled and gave him a slight nod while shaking his hand. "And you must be the doctor I talked on the phone."

"Yes. Please take a seat," the man guided her to a chair, "I believe we have a lot to talk about, regarding my patient. Can I get you something to drink?"

"Water is fine," Bo replied, "so, are you gonna throw that doctor patient confidentiality thing to my face before we can actually talk?"

The man smiled as he handed Bo a glass of water. "I think I'll just save both of us some trouble, since this is a murder case which involves deaht of a child. I'm sure it would take no time for you to get a court order, even if I refused to talk to you."

Bo nodded. She sat there with a polite smile on her face and thought about what question she should ask next. Then, she said, "maybe you can describe him to me?"

"Well, he was troubled. He was a very troubled young man, haunted by his childhood nightmares," Dr. Tether said, "during most of our sessions, he had been talking about that and how he felt that he was abandoned and wanted to make things right..."

"So, by committing this crime, he actually thought that he was trying to fix something?"

"In his distorted point of view, yes," the man said, "I believe that he viewed that victim of his crime as a version of himself, and by killing him, he somehow thought that he ended his own pain."

"That's...kinda a horrible thought..." Bo commented.

The doctor answered her with a light smile. "Like I said, he was troubled."

"During his sessions...had he ever mentioned anyone who he was close to?" Bo asked.

"You mean like a lover? No, he was not capable of being in steady relationships."

"No, no, I meant someone like a mentor, or someone who he trusted, who he seeked for advice maybe?"

"Well, I believe the only person he had seeked help for was probably me," the doctor said, "I tried to help him, but..."

"So, he mentioned no one?" Bo asked.

"I don't recall anyone," the doctor said, "you don't think someone talked him into killing this kid, do you?"

"Well...let's say that we are considering all possibilities," Bo replied.

"You have to understand that what he had come through was too overwhelming. When he watched his brother die and his mother abandoned him, he turned into a monster."

"The monster, did he ever use that word to describe himself?" Bo asked. Somehow she felt that it was something important because she had heard the killer mention it multiple times.

"He was a monster," the doctor said to Bo as he gazed into Bo's eyes. Somehow that stare had suddenly made Bo feel a little uncomfortable. She cleared her throat as she downed her water.

"I noticed that..." Bo finally started to talk again after a while of silence, "...his last appointment was two days before the murder. Had he said anything that was unusual? Had he mentioned anything that was kinda...off?"

"Just the usual stuff," the man said to Bo. Then, he opened his drawer and took out a thick journal. "If you want to take a look at the journal of his sessions, you are more than welcome to."

"Oh, Ok," Bo was a little bit surprised by his generous offer. She took the journal and started to read.

The journal contained all the conversations and treatments the killer had in this clinic, which dated back to over a year ago. Every session record started with how the doctor told him to relax, close his eyes, and imagine himself in a quiet, peaceful place. Then, the killer would talk about his nightmares, how he saw the blood splatter, how he felt isolated, not being able to trust anyone.

"Had he ever talked about the person who killed his brother?" Bo asked when she read the description of the crime.

"Yes, a man with a low voice," the doctor said.

"But he never saw his face."

"No. He was wearing a mask, the same one my patient wore when he killed that boy."

Bo nodded unconsciously. Have we leaked that detail to the press, that they were wearing the same mask? she thought, but she was bothered by something in the journal and she couldn't focus on that question. In fact, she couldn't quite tell what was bothering her. She just sat there in silence, going back and forth on several pages she had just read. Then, she stopped as she re-read one of the pages. ...he lied down, and closed his eyes as I asked...

Lied down...it was supposed to be lay down. Bo thought. She couldn't believe a misused past tense bothered her somehow, until it occurred to her that she had seen the same mistake somewhere before. It was during that Black Dahlia copycat case, when the Boston PD found out an anonymous online blog had posted detailed crime scene descriptions. They had not been able to trace the blog's owner, but she remembered that whoever wrote those blogs had made the same mistake.

Bo raised her head to face the doctor, frowning. She knew exactly what conclusion she had just made, and that made her shiver somehow, especially when she saw that smile on the doctor's face. It creeped her out somehow, when she realized that deep down in his eyes, he wasn't smiling at all.

"It was...you!" Bo finally exclaimed, "you were that mentor. Of course! You were his doctor. Of course he was gonna listen to any bullshit you told him! You talked him into killing that kid! You turned him into a monster!"

The doctor smiled. He left his seat and approached Bo, standing right in front of her. "I barely said anything to him. All I told him was what he wanted to hear all along. He was already on the edge of the cliff, and he would have fallen even without my push..." he said, still smiling, "but you are right about one thing. I did turn him into a monster. He was in fact my favorite artwork."

"What are you saying?"

"Who do you think killed his brother?" the doctor answered Bo's question by asking her one.

"You? You killed his brother? It was you?!" Bo yelled, not being able to hold her anger back anymore.

"You see, creating a monster isn't that easy. You gotta start when they are young, and lead them through the way, incubate them, teach them, till they become full-fledged monsters."

"The only monster that I see, is you!" Bo said, "you are the Master! You manipulated those people to kill. You orchestrated those copycat cases. And you were trying to frame me too!"

"You think you'd ever get away if I actually tried to frame you?" the Master said in a soft voice, "that was a greeting, a test drive, a Hi from me."

"Oh, you sick, perverted bastard..." Bo cursed as she reached for her dagger. It was then she realized that she couldn't move, and a weird weariness was consuming her slowly. She panicked, and yelled, "what the hell have you done to me?!"

"Ah, you must think that I put something in the water, or sprayed something in the air, " the Master said, "but no, this is just the power I possess, Bo. I don't need anything to subdue you. All I need to do, is simply talking to you while looking at you in your eyes."

"What do you want from me?" Bo stared at him angrily.

"You see, I'm fascinated by you, Bo," the Master said with an excited look on his face, "all those people that I've turned into monsters. They were fun to play with, but they were so predictable, but you...you are the real deal. Your mother had you during hundred of years being imprisoned by some Dark Lord. Just imagine the torture and the pain she had suffered during that time. Then, she abandoned you. She sent you to some pathetic humans, who didn't even know the existence of Fae. Then, you killed your first love, and after that, you were abandoned again by those who raised you and claimed that they loved you...then, trails of deaths all around you. Then, you wrecked your love life, again, and again...you see, your life is a train wreck, yet you are still...trying to be good."

"Unlike you, I have a family, a loving family," Bo said, gnashing her teeth. She tried to struggle but she couldn't even move a single finger.

"Oh, you mean your grandfather who sacrificed his only daughter to the other side simply because he wanted to maintain his power as the King? Or the stupid Wolf who probably had more blood on his hands than you and I combined? Or that pathetic little human pet of yours, who was born and raised in an abusive family, who has been stealing, cheating and grifting her entire life? Or your human doctor ex-girlfrien, who was in fact a wanted terrorist, and couldn't even get her life straight? Or...are you really talking about that Valkyrie of yours? Oh boy, I don't even know where to start on her..."

"I've already said," Bo interrupted him, "the only monster I see, is you."

"One day, you'll join me, Bo," the man said, "because you are a monster, just like me. You should be sitting at the bottom of the abyss, gazing into anyone who gazes into you, with rage, hatred and bitterness..."

"Wow, you really don't know me, do you?" Bo snarled.

"Don't tell me that you don't want to, Bo. Don't you want some revenge? Don't you want to punish those who have made you suffer? Don't you want to hate everything? Don't you want to hate this world?"

"The only thing that I want to do is to put a bullet into your pathetic brain," Bo said, staring at him in pure rage.

The Master smiled. He sat down in front of Bo, gazing into her eyes for a while, before he said, "you are feeling tired. Your eyes are slowly closing, and your body is relaxed. Your mind slowly sinks into a soft, edgeless darkness..."

Don't listen to him. Don't listen to him! Bo told herself, trying to stay awake. But the man's voice was too soft and too persuasive for her to ignore. She closed her eyes slowly, just like he told her to. And right before she fell into that darkness, she heard the man say, "ah, almost forgot. I haven't properly introduced myself to you yet."

Bo tried everything she could to open her eyes, but all she could see was a blurred image of the man and his creepy smile. "Hello, Bo," the man said as she stood up from his chair, "or shall I call you sis?"

What? What was he saying? Bo asked herself but her mind was too confused to process the information. No longer being able to stay conscious, she finally gave in to her weariness and fell asleep.

8:50pm - Tamsin's Apartment

Bo opened her eyes with a loud gasp. She immediately jerked herself up while reaching for her weapon, but someone stopped her from moving away.

"Hey...look who's awake?" Tamsin's soft voice whispered to her.

Bo froze for a second or two, before she buried herself into the blonde's arms. It was all she needed, after her terrifying encounter with the Master. "Tamsin..." she murmured, hugging her tighter.

"Yeah, I am here..." Tamsin said as she tucked both of them under the blanket in her bed.

"How did you...where did you...what happened?" Bo asked.

"Long story short, I realized that Sam Tether was an anagram of The Master, and immediately went to the clinic," Tamsin said, "you were passed out on the couch..."

"Hey, I'm Ok..." Bo told the blonde. She could see how worried Tamsin was.

"I'm glad you are," Tamsin said, kissing Bo on her forehead, "and I'm gonna kill that son of a bitch."

"Where is him?"

"When I got there, he was already gone, and no one knew where he went, or even when he left the clinic," Tamsin said, "Dyson checked his IDs and his credentials, all fake. That clinic didn't even hire him. I have no idea how he could have posed as a doctor there for so long..."

"He's...I think he has some sort of power like he can hypnotize people or something...I just talked to him for a short while, and all of a sudden, I can't move. Then I just fell asleep unwillingly," Bo said, "and he was behind all those killings...that could be how he managed to control his puppets..."

"He told you he was behind all those killings? What else has he said to you?" Tamsin asked.

"Just some perverted bullshit..." Bo said, snuggling to the blonde's side.

"What does he want? Who is he?" Tamsin asked again as she gently stroked Bo's back to calm her down.

"I don't know what he wants, Tamsin," Bo said, "but I think he's my brother."

A/N: I decided to give it a little twist of bringing Bo's brother out. I know she doesn't have one in the show, but I think it would be fun if she has an evil twin brother. This idea is heavily influenced by a Manga/Anime named Monster by Naoki Urasawa. It has an excellent story line, with all kinds of intense suspense and character development. The whole anime series should be on Youtube, I think, in case anyone wants to watch it.
