Chapter 32 - The Rest Can Wait

11:00am - Bo's Apartment

"You have a brother?!" Kenzi exclaimed, jumping up from the couch, her eyes staring at Bo.

"Apparently," Bo said, shrugging.

"And Trick never told you that?"

"I don't think he knows," Bo said. "He was just as surprised as I was when he heard that...anyway, I think that the only person who knows about my brother is my mother, whose whereabouts is a total mystery right now..."

"I thought she died after you two...you know...had that fight," Kenzi said, chewing her twizzlers.

"No," Bo shook her head. "We never found her body. And Trick says he's been hearing things about her every now and then. I think she's still alive, somewhere."

"Well, are you gonna go visit her or something?" Kenzi asked curiously.

"Yeah, if we can find her," Bo said, "we are following other leads too...,"

"Oh, Bo-bo," Kenzi said as she patted Bo on her shoulder, "your family is just...I'm so glad that you fell far from the tree."

Bo huffed out a light laugh. She paused for a while, and said, "But anyway, yeah. I have a brother, and he's pure evil. I am gonna find him, and when I do, I'm gonna seriously kick the shit out of his sorry ass. Until then, I need to get my normal life back on track as well."

"Sure as hell do, sister. Can't let one sick pervert ruin your life, right?" Kenzi said, "Speaking of which, how's your normal life going? Any progress on your moving in schedule with Detective Smirky?"

"Well...actually...we are going to do a final walk-through for an apartment today. Probably gonna sign the lease and move in if everything looks fine."

Kenzi nodded. She leaned to Bo's side and rested her head on her shoulder. "I'm so happy for you, Bo, although I'm gonna miss you..."

"You can come over anytime you want, and I am only a phone call away girl," Bo said to Kenzi with a smile on her face.

2:00pm - New Apartment

"Well, what do you think?" Tamsin asked after walking around in the empty apartment.

"I don't see anything that I can complain about. And with that move-in discount...I think this is it," Bo said. "The location is great. The layout is nice. I like the porch too."

"The porch, or the big windows?" Tamsin whispered to Bo as she put her arms around the brunette's waist and pulled her into her embrace. "It's the big windows, isn't it? 'Cause I can just imagine how much you will like it when I put you up against the window with your naked tits pressing on the cold glass and-" she suddenly stopped talking because she saw a large black dog standing right outside the window, staring at them.

"Whoa, that's a big dog..." Bo murmured, staring back at the dog. The dog approached the porch cautiously, his eyes looking at Bo and Tamsin, like he was trying to figure out who they were. He stayed there for a while, before he slowly turned around and left.

"Weird. They shouldn't allow such a big dog to run around the property without a leash. Hopefully we don't find fucking dog crap on our porch later," Tamsin grunted.

"Our porch?" Bo teased the blonde as she turned around and gave her a light kiss on her lips.

Tamsin smiled as she kissed the brunette back. "Yes, our porch." she repeated, holding Bo tighter.

2:35pm - Leasing Office

"Please have a seat and I'll be right back with your leasing contract. Apartment 359 is a great choice. You two will love it!" the leasing staff said to Bo and Tamsin as she guided them to the couch. Then she politely told a man who was waiting in the office that she should be right with him, before she went into the room inside.

Bo was about to go to the couch and sit down with Tamsin, but before she did she realized that the man was staring at them. It seemed that he wanted to say something, but was too intimidated to do so.

"Can I help you?" Bo asked frowning.

"Oh, sorry, sorry..." the guy apologized nervously, his eyes moving back and forth between Tamsin and Bo's faces. He turned around, about to leave, but stopped after he took the first step towards the door. "I...I couldn't help but overhear that you two are moving into apartment 359?"

"Yeah, you got a problem with that?" Tamsin retorted with a smirk on her face.

The man nervously adjusted his glasses and moved closer to them. "You don't want to move into that apartment, trust me," he said to them in a low voice.

"Why is that?" Bo asked.

"Just...trust me, you don't want that apartment," the guy emphasized in a more serious tone, "choose some other apartment, and stay away from 359."

"If you know something, you better start talking, buddy," Tamsin said with a frown. She could tell the guy was being serious.

The guy was about to say something, but when he saw the leasing staff coming out from the inside room, he cleared his throat and stepped away from them, as if he was afraid of getting caught. He handed the staff his rent check and left.

"Who is that guy?" Bo asked the staff curiously.

The lady rolled her eyes when she heard Bo's question. "That's Andrew from 350. Was he bothering you?"

"No, not really," Bo replied.

"Okay, then let's go through the lease contract, shall we?" the lady said to Bo and Tamsin with a professional smile on her face.

"Emmm...actually, can we go walk around the neighborhood one more time before we do that? I think we forgot to check out the gym and the pools on the back side of the property." Bo said.

"Oh, of course," the staff nodded, "let me drive you two sweethearts then."

"No need," Tamsin said. "The weather is so nice outside. We'll just take a walk."

3:00pm - Apartment 350

Andrew first denied that he had anything to say about apartment 359, claiming that it was just him mumbling things, but after a few minutes, he realized that Bo and Tamsin were really serious about it. Eventually he gave in when Tamsin showed him her badge. "I...I didn't mean...I mean, maybe you two should consider renting some other apartment."

"What is wrong with 359?" Bo asked.

"It's..." the man muttered. He paused for a long time, like what he was about to say was too ridiculous. "That apartment is haunted, okay?"

Bo and Tamsin turned to look at each other, before they both shrugged. "How do you know it's haunted? You've seen ghosts in there or something?" Tamsin asked.

Andrew looked a little surprised, like he couldn't believe that neither woman accused him of being crazy. He observed the looks on Bo and Tamsin's faces, to make sure that neither of them was making fun of him, before he said, "I've see black cats and dogs wandering around that apartment a lot."

"Well, this is a pet friendly property," Bo said.

"Yeah, but the staff in the leasing office told me that no one owns black cats in this property, and the dog is too large to be allowed in here."

"There are always people who keep pets against the rules," Tamsin shrugged. "Or maybe it's a stray dog or something."

"Yeah, I thought so too, but then..." the man stepped forward, his voice lowered, "...I saw this old man in a black suit, standing on the porch of 359 pruning the bushes..."

"And...that's weird how? The tenants are not supposed to prune the plants?"

"No, 359 had no tenants when I saw him. It was empty. In fact, 359 never really had any tenants since this complex started the business, not long term ones anyway. I've seen several families moving in, but they moved out in less than a week," Andrew said. "I've been poking around, asking the staff about it, but they never talk to me. I think they know something's going on with that apartment 'cause they offer that move-in discount to everyone. I mean, it's like the best apartment on this property, but it can't keep tenants for longer than a week. You gotta admit it's pretty weird, right?"

"It is," Bo nodded.

"Well, thanks for the info bro," Tamsin said.

"No problem. Just stay away from 359," the man said before he closed the door.

4:00pm - Outside the Leasing Office

After giving the office staff some charms, the lady spit out everything she knew about apartment 359 to Bo and Tamsin. It was just like what Andrew had told them. They couldn't keep tenants in 359, and those who had ever stayed in that apartment never wanted to talk about what happened in there.

"Well, what do you think?" Bo asked as they walked out from the office.

"I don't really think it's haunted," Tamsin replied. " 'Cause if it was, I would have sensed the death in there."

"Then why did all the tenant break their leases and leave in a hurry?"

"Who knows, serious roach problem maybe?" Tamsin joked. "I think it's worth it to find out though. That apartment is not haunted, but something's definitely wrong with it."

9:00pm - Apartment 359

"So Dyson is interviewing the previous tenants about what happened here, and we are gonna stay here overnight to see is anything happening?" Bo asked as she unrolled the sleeping bag and laid it on the floor.

"Yep," Tamsin replied. She took off her jacket before she got into the sleeping bag. Then she opened her arm to invite Bo in. Bo smiled and gave her a kiss on her lips, before she slid into the bag.

Both of them lay there in silence for a while, staring at the ceiling, until Tamsin huffed out a giggle and said, "You know, this is so not how I pictured our first night moving in together."

"Really? How did you think our first night would be then?" Bo asked as she turned to the blonde's side on her elbow.

"Well, we'd put all furniture in place first. Then we'd probably take a bath together, with some chocolate fudge and vodka on the side..." Tamsin said, her eyes looking into Bo's curious brown ones. "Then...some hot sex in the tub, and on the porch...then...we'd sink in the couch and share some ice cream while watching TV before you fall asleep and drool all over my shoulder or something."

"Right, I am the one who drools," Bo retorted, before she pecked the Valkyrie's cheek.

10:30 pm - Apartment 359

How long was I asleep? was the first thing that came to Tamsin's mind as she was awakened by the thunderstorm outside. The heavy rain drops banged on the window as if they were about to break the glass, and the thunder exploded in the thick clouds one after another.

Tamsin opened her eyes as she raised herself on her elbows. She took a glance at Bo, who was soundly asleep next to her. Then she turned to the window and froze.

An old man in a black suit was standing on the porch, peeping through the window. He was small, with gray hair and a gray beard. Despite the pouring rain, he was completely dry. When he noticed that Tamsin had spotted him, he stared at Tamsin calmly, so calmly that it felt creepy.

Tamsin cursed as she grabbed her gun. She jumped up and opened the door to the porch. She raised her gun, but paused because suddenly, the old man was nowhere to be seen. Tamsin frowned and looked around, but no one was outside.

After a few seconds, Tamsin noticed something with a pair of amber eyes staring at her. It was a black cat who was sitting under the bushes right outside the porch. When he saw that Tamsin was approaching him slowly, he meowed and ran away.

"What happened?" Bo asked as she ran out to Tamsin.

"I have no idea," Tamsin said, still cautiously searching for possible threats, "but I think I saw the old guy in the black suit, before he disappeared into thin air."

"Was he a ghost?"

"Definitely not," Tamsin replied. "That man, or that thing, was definitely alive."

10:20 am - Police Station

"Hey, how was your first night in your new apartment?" Dyson asked when he saw Tamsin walk into the precinct with Bo.

"Well, the usual. Trouble found her...again," Tamsin smirked as she pointed at Bo. "Any findings from talking to the previous tenants?"

"Usual haunted house stories. Creepy old guy appears outside on the porch. Black cats and dogs running around," Dyson said.

"Hmmm..." Tamsin frowned, before she added, "I need a sketch artist."

Dyson paused for a second or two, before he asked, "You saw the old man?"

"Yeah," Tamsin answered. "Once the artist is done with the picture, we can run it through our facial recognition system-"

"-and ask the previous tenants if the old man they saw was the same one as the guy you saw last night," Bo completed Tamsin's sentence.

"I can finish my own sentence, sweetheart," Tamsin smirked, before she sat down on her chair with Bo sitting on her lap.

8:30 pm - Police Station

"Yes!" Tamsin exclaimed when a window popped out on the computer screen indicating that the system had matched the sketch of the old man with someone in the database.

"Earl Smith...blah blah blah, currently staying at some nursing home..." Bo murmured as she skimmed through the page displayed on the screen. "Hey, check out his address before he was sent to the nursing home. It's the same address of the apartment complex, only it was run by a different management group and had a different name."

"I guess we'll pay this Earl guy a visit first thing tomorrow morning then," Tamsin said.

"Then what about tonight?" Bo asked as she sat down on the blonde's lap, facing Tamsin.

"Tonight? Hmmm...let's see, how about a back rub for me in the bath?" Tamsin teased.

"You do know that I will need some sort of..." Bo murmured, thumbing the blonde's lips, "...payment for such service, right?"

Tamsin smirked. She pressed her lips on Bo's ear and whispered something to her. The brunette's eyes turned bright blue as she chuckled and said, "Deal."

8:00 am - Nursing Home

After being asked if Earl Smith could have possibly sneaked out from the nursing home at night without anyone noticing, the nurse who took care of the old man huffed out a loud laugh, like she had just heard the most ridiculous thing in the world. "Earl?" she exclaimed as she moved her eyes to the old guy in the wheelchair. "There's no way he could sneak out at night. He can barely stand up from the wheelchair by himself."

"And, you haven't noticed anything weird about him? Like anything?" Bo asked.

"No, nothing's weird about him. He's just like all the others in here. Too old to take care of himself, but he's a nice guy," the nurse said. Then she excused herself and went to do her job.

"Could it be like he's possessed?" Bo asked.

"That still doesn't explain how he disappeared in front of me," Tamsin said, frowning. "I guess it's time for us to talk to the walking Faecyclopedia now."

9:20 am - The Dal

Trick was doing his inventory when Bo and Tamsin arrived at the bar. He greeted them warmly.

"Got a puzzle for you, Blood King," Tamsin said as she sat down at the bar. She tapped the seat next to her, asking Bo to sit down too. Then she hugged the brunette from behind after she was seated.

"Listening," Trick replied.

"Name something that has connection to a black dog and black cat," Tamsin said. "It appears to be like a ghost, but it's alive. It might even be possessing a human body and making it do things that normal possessions can't."

"Hmmm..." Trick frowned. He paused for a while thinking before he asked, "Anyone who has seen this thing involved in any tragic accident?"

"No, not that we know of," Bo said.

"Is this thing hostile?" Trick asked his second question.

"No, I don't think so," Tamsin said. "Just kinda creepy."

"Well, I would say Domovoi if you hadn't mentioned any possession, but if there's possession involved, it's not a Domovoi..."

"Tell us about this Domovoi thing anyway, gramps," Bo requested.

"It's a house spirit, can take on the appearance of cats, dogs, or the previous or current owner of the house-"

"Hey, that sounds like our guy," Tamsin said. "If he can take the form of the previous owner of the apartment, that could explain why he looked exactly like that Earl guy."

"So, what does this Domovoi do normally?" Bo asked.

"Normally? Just take care of the house," Trick said. "They are harmless and quiet."

"Well, nice to know that he comes in peace, but I don't want a creepy old guy living in our apartment," Bo grunted. "Is there a way to drive him out or something?"

"Are you saying that there's a Domovoi in your new apartment?" Trick asked.

"Yeah, apparently there is one, peeping through the window at night," Bo said.

"That's strange. If the owner of the house leaves, the Domovoi usually follows him or her," Trick said. "There are rituals to guide a lost Domovoi to his master though. I may know one or two persons who can perform such rituals..."

"And...it's gonna be free since the client is your granddaughter, right?" Tamsin asked as she caressed the back of Bo's hand.

6:15pm - Apartment 359

"One Domovoi, out the door," Tamsin slammed the door closed after the ritual performer had left.

"Well, that was easy," Bo said. "When I heard this apartment was haunted, I thought it would definitely involved some silver weapons, fighting, bloodshed and burning the remains."

"Lucky me, no need to take care of a whiny, injured Succubus," Tamsin said as she tapped Bo's nose with her index finger.

"Oh, you are gonna take care of a whiny Succubus soon," Bo said. "I think I need a shower, now." She pressed her body against the blonde's, her index finger slowly running down along the Valkyrie's body.

"We haven't unpacked yet," Tamsin said, yet she had already laid her hands on the back of Bo's waist, caressing her through her t-shirt.

"Let's unpack some chocolate fudge and a bottle of vodka first..." Bo murmured, shoving the blonde towards the bathroom. "The rest can wait."
