TOON WARS SHORTS
Father to Son Time
By Frozarburst
At the great Castle of Rhybloflaven on a sunny afternoon, Bimm has a seat by the kitchen sink washing the dishes, unaware the Cattus is sneaking up behind her. He reaches towards her stomach and begins to tickle her till she laughs loudly and drops the dish she has back in the water!
Bimm: AHAHAHAHAHA! C-cattus?! You're early?
Cattus: Absolutely dear. Neutron informed me that the Toon Force didn't need me for a while. Said that I should stop and take a week off.
Bimm: Well, I'm not gonna lie. You're always working, even on Sundays. Who in the multiverse works on a Sunday besides retail?!
Cattus: Why, me of course!
Bimm: That was rhetorical, honey.
Cattus: Sorry. I just really enjoy my job. It's been a few months since our marriage and it's never felt so good. (Flexes biceps) It makes me feel like a model husband!
Bimm: You know, since you are a model husband, maybe you should also be a model father and spend time with Nyando today. After all, he hasn't seen you in, well, ever. Not since his adoption.
Cattus: Now that you mention it, I have been considering that lately. But I thought he was occupied with something already.
Bimm: He's occupied with Forknife. That's what. I've asked him many times if he could see if you had the time to play with him. But he could already tell you were busy and kinda just...doesn't ask when you aren't. I'd hate for him to grow up and not know anything about his father besides the negatives. And he's already growing fast.
Cattus: Well, there's one way I know how to get his attention.
Outside, Cattus graciously shoves his fist in a power box, sparking the lights and machines nearby! Right on que, Nyando steps out the side entrance of the manor walls to check on the generator.
Nyando: Hey! What happened to the lights? And the internet?!
Cattus: Power surge. I'll make sure to call for technicians. But in the meantime, we can do something together. Just the two of us.
Nyando: Really? Just you an' me?
Cattus: Yessir, son! (Puts fists against his hips and grins) You get to spend time with your new father!
Nyando: Aw, sweet! ...Um, what do you wanna do today?
Cattus: I dunno. What do you wanna do today?
Nyando: I dunno. What do you wanna do today?
Cattus: I dunno. What do you wanna do today?
Nyando: Wait! I know!
Elsewhere at a park, Nyando and Cattus look at the Whirlwind Magisword, discarded on the nice green grass.
Cattus: So, you'd like me to give you your own Whirlwind Magisword?
Nyando: That's right, Pops. (Holds up Ping Pong Magisword) I'm sick of using this kiddie stuff. The shops always do this.
Narrator: PING PONG MAGIS-
Nyando: Yeah, I know!
Cattus: Well, the secret is, I made this Magisword from hand.
Nyando: For real? You can do that?
Cattus: Well absolutely! It's what your mother did with her Magisword. I did the same with this one.
Nyando: I-I just...didn't know you could do that. I always thought they were pre-built.
Cattus: A lot of the ones you see around here are produced for sale. Others, like the ones obtained through quests from the Warriors for Hire, were made from a much earlier era.
Nyando: And you're telling me that the best one out of all of em was made by you?
Cattus: YOU THINK MINE IS THAT AWESOME?!
Nyando: (Shrugs) Well yeah. I mean, that's why I bothered to ask you how to get one of your's.
Cattus grinning strongly: Eeeeeeeeeeee! I would LOVE to help you make this!
Nyando: Cool beans. Um, it doesn't take that long to make, does it?
Cattus: Not at all. It only takes 4 easy steps for construction and magic.
Nyando: Aw, thank Go- wait what? Magic?
Cattus: First, you'll need a hilt like the one I have here.
Nyando takes up his Ping Pong Magisword, looks at it for a moment before breaking it in half, leaving the hilt bare.
Nyando: Ok. Next?
Cattus: Second, you'll need to be in an incredibly windy condition.
Nyando: How windy? And besides, it's a sunny day, birds are singin', no storms this week. Hardly any clouds.
Cattus: Only as strong as my normal wind currents from this Magisword. But before we do that, you'll need the magic to make it. The third step.
Nyando: And we get that where…?
Cattus: One moment.
Cattus takes his Whirlwind Magisword and wisps Witchy Simone from nowhere to he and Nyando with the power of a quiet wind current.
Witchy Simone: Hey guys! Uh...what am I doing here?
Cattus: Hello Simone. Sorry to have you out so abruptly, but may we borrow your magic?
Witchy Simone: Totally! How much you askin'?
Cattus: About as much as a standard bolt of electricity.
Nyando: Wait, wha…?!
Witchy Simone: You got it, Cattus!
Nyando: Hold on, you said how much…?!
Cattus: Ok son. There's one more thing you need to know before it's time.
Nyando: What is there to know? You tryin' to kill me?
Cattus: Of course not, Nyando. It won't even hurt you as long as long as you follow these last instructions. (Kneels down to his son) To earn the Whirlwind Magisword, you must be at peace with yourself.
Nyando: …Huh? I am so confused.
Cattus: It's alright, son. It's a first for you. It certainly takes a lot of time to adjust to it. I wouldn't want you to do this is you feel you're not ready for it yet.
Nyando: Well… (Shrugs backward) Agh. I dunno man. I don't wanna look like a baby for backin' out.
Cattus: (Pat's Nyando's shoulder) You won't. Every man knows their limits. And they work to break them overtime. It's…in our nature.
Nyando: Really?
Cattus: How else did you think I got this strong? I had to train for it. I knew I wasn't the most powerful or wise at the time of the academy. But I worked to be that way. When times were tough, I simply took a deep breath, relaxed, and found myself in the moment. In the now, no matter how long it took.
Nyando: Dad, I…never had a guy say that to me. And it ain't cause I didn't have a ma or anythin'. Just about every dude wanted it rough fo' me.
Cattus: As I said. It takes time to adjust. I don't want to force you. You're not in a situation where you have to think quickly like I do battle after battle. Not every mistake you make will lead to major consequences here.
Nyando cringing: Dang… Well, uh…I'll do it anyway.
Cattus: Are you sure, son?
Nyando: Yeah, I'm gonna do it.
Cattus lifting his Whirlwind Magisword: Wonderful! I can see it in you. You're ready! Be ready to fire, Simone.
Witchy Simone snoring: …(Wakes up) Huh? Oh yeah. (Rubs palms, generating a pink aura) Here we go.
Nyando holding his hilt tightly and bracing forward: Oh geez Louise…
Cattus makes a small twister above himself, gravitating it toward Nyando's dome.
Cattus: NOW!
The twister engulfs the boy, followed by a huge volley of electricity in the vortex from Simone's palms, causing the hilt inside to shine and blast a huge gold light in the sky! In a few short moments, the twister and glow fade, revealing Nyando still in his cringing position holding his newly constructed Whirlwind copy.
Nyando with his eyes shut: …Did I do it?
Witchy Simone: See for yo' self.
Nyando: (Slowly opens eyes) AGH! IT WORKED! (Wags tail quickly) IT WORKED! (Twirls around) OH MY GAWD, IT WORKED! POPS, YOU WAS RIGHT!
Cattus teary eyed: I'm so proud. (Kneels) Come here, son.
Nyando runs over to Cattus, also crying happily as both men embrace each other with a tight hug. Simone, meanwhile, is distracted from a purple butterfly floating past her face.
Nyando: Dad, you're crushing my collar bones.
Cattus letting go: Oops! Sorry. Now then, since you have your first personalized Magisword, you will need to learn how to use it.
Nyando pulls a park bench over to him and Simone with his new Magisword, taking a seat.
Cattus: Or maybe not. It's amazing. (Scratches the back of his head) Kids learn so fast…
Nyando: It ain't the first Magisword where all ya do is flick yo' wrist to get it workin'.
Cattus: Well, perhaps we could use it for something beneficial. Like…ooh! Fishing!
Nyando: Oh yeah. We haven't eaten yet, have we?
Cattus: No. But we're not going to find food like we normally do, Son.
Nyando: You mean we're not gonna use our Magiswords to get the fish out?
Cattus: Oh, we will. But not out here.
At a shallow lake, Cattus and Nyando sit at the end of a short pier, empty with only their Magiswords and a paper bag.
Nyando: Dad...I don't think there's ANY fish in these parts.
Cattus: Don't worry, sport. There are. We just have to be patient. And very quiet…
For a few minutes, nothing pops in the water besides smaller fish not big enough to eat. Minutes turn to an hour. An hour passes and the sun begins to go down. One more hour, and Nyando's stomach begins to growl.
Nyando: Dad...It's been 3 hours… I'm starvin'. I haven't even said anythin' since you said there'd be food. When will it get here?
Cattus with his eyes shut: …
Nyando: Pops…?
Cattus: …
Nyando: You're asleep, aren't you? Serves me right for sitting an' waitin* with da- (Looks up) AAAAAGH!
An incredibly oversized trout, larger than the pier itself, leaps out the water head first toward the two!
Nyando: Dad, what is that?!
Cattus opening his eyes quickly: Our dinner!
Nyando: THAT'S what we were waiting for?!
Cattus: Absolutely! It's a beast, is it not? Well now, time to use our Magiswords.
Another fish the same size jumps from the lake, prompting the two felines to lift their Magiswords in unison. With a heavy wisp to the right, a huge gush of wind brings the water to the height of a massive wave, forming into a circle as a huge whirlpool! Soon, the two fish fall toward Nyando, who picks up the paper bag in preparation.
Nyando: I got it, Pops!
Immediately, the two are crushed underneath the weight of the large creatures!
One Hospital Visit Later…
Triumphantly, Cattus and Nyando open the doors of the castle to greet Princess Zange and Bimm with two long carts full of smaller fish and the two gargantuan tryouts in multiple paper bags. Some having been split in half to fit inside.
Zange: Oh, there you are. I thought I heard Simone brought ya to the hospital.
Witchy Simone coming in: I did! Their legs became their arms! Haha!
Bimm: Did you two enjoy yourselves as father and son?
Nyando: Totally!
Cattus: It was a really great time to spend together!
Bimm: Wonderful. I knew it would be nice to have you two with each other for once.
Nyando: Oh, this was your idea?
Bimm: Not an idea. Just…a suggestion.
Nyando: I'm guessin' since you're free for the rest of the week, you gonna meditate or…?
Cattus: I will Nyando. But first, I'm going with your mother to protect my title! Then we shall have a grand feast!
Bimm suddenly gets overwhelmingly excited and takes Cattus by the hand, quickly dragging him to their bedroom slamming the door shut with locks on the other side!
Nyando: Way to go, Dad!
Zange: Finally. Music to my ears. (Smiles)
Witchy Simone: I'm goin' back to sleep.
Simone quickly takes a nap face first against the bags full of fish.
The End
