Chapter 8: Sports Festival, First Event

UA Stadium Row 280

Rumi Usagiyama, otherwise known as Mirko the Rabbit Hero and currently ranked as the seventh hero in Japan, was bored. Every year her best friend Ryko Tatsuma, also known as Ryukyu The Dragon Hero and currently ranked as the ninth hero in Japan, tried to invite her to attend the Sports Festival and every year she managed to find an excuse. This year, however, she wasn't so lucky, thanks to Kaina Tsutsumi, Lady Nagant former HPSC assassin, joining her discreetly as she was chasing a villain and taking him down before Rumi had the chance to turn it into a long chase. But this year was going to be different, Ryukyu argued, as this year the first years were also joined by Perseus Jackson, supposedly a legendary hero from the 21st century. And no matter how disinterested she tried to be, once she saw footage of the time-traveler fighting alongside All Might, she wanted to see what he was made of. And she wasn't the only one interested. If she had to bet, she would bet that any pro hero who wasn't attending the Sports Festival and had no current cases would be watching to see the extent of Jackson's abilities.

That didn't mean she had to like it. She knew that the Sports Festival was instituted in order to let Pro Heroes analyze the students' strengths and weaknesses before they could send internship forms for those that they liked. Which did not appeal to Mirko. She did not care for team ups or agencies. She was an independent hero, as she had no sidekicks, no work studies, or interns whatsoever as she believed that they would slow her down. "Again why am I here Ryuko-chan? You know I don't like team ups as a whole" she complained to the Dragon Hero.

Ryukyu turned to her as she explained "Because you need to stop being so independent. Besides as a current pro hero you still have a responsibility for the younger generation. And this year we have some students who just might impress you."

Nagant paid more attention to the students than her friends at the moment as she implied "Also considering we have a hero from the previous century here, this is a good opportunity to see what he can actually do before anyone else decides to take him." Both Ryukyu and Mirko knew what she meant. Nagant had been employed by the HPSC as an assassin taking out corrupt heroes and villains in secret. However with every kill she made, her psyche worsened. By sheer force and determination, and with a little help from her friends, she announced her resignation to the former President. Enraged he tried to threaten her, but was exposed and conveniently sent to prison on counts of treason. Nagant, after a lot of therapy, was able to return as a public hero only using lethal force when he had no other options.

Mirko then sighed as she noticed him walking to the podium. "Oh well. Let's see what he has to say. And it better not be as boring as the last two pledges I've heard" she stated.

Mt Olympus 2009

Sally had to chuckle at her son shaking like a leaf as he took the stage. She knew that Percy had stage fright, and as a result he would do everything he could to avoid public speaking. It was a running joke she had that Percy could take on armies of monsters with no fear in his eyes, but if he was asked to make a speech, he wouldn't hesitate to run away. "Oh Percy, you're going to have to get over that stage fright of yours. How else would you declare your vows to Annabeth?" She joked, causing everyone but Annabeth to laugh as the daughter of Athena was blushing so much she would be mistaken for a tomato.

Athena shook her head at the implied notion and added on to it "To think that the Savior of Olympus had a weakness like that. Then again he has to make a speech in front of millions of people. No wonder he's nervous" she said.

Ares had popcorn out as he relished in the sight of Percy's frightful expression. Dionysus leaned in as he wanted to see how the most troublesome camper he had to deal with so far had to say. So did everyone in Olympus to be fair.

Chronos had to smile. Even though Percy was sent into the future, he still had an effect on the present.

UA Stadium Teacher's Box

"Was it a good idea to have Jackson do the pledge? We normally would let the first year with the highest result on the entrance exam" Thirteen asked as she noticed Percy's nervous stance as he stood in front of the microphone.

"Normally yes. Bakugou-kun would be the one to do the pledge. However, keep in mind that it's been a full week since Percy-chan came into our timeline. And ever since then, everyone has been wanting to hear from him, about his past life and what he wants to do. Unfortunately he will have to deal with public speaking more often than not. So we might as well let him experience this now, that way he can be prepared in case reporters try to ambush him" Nezu explained as he sat on Hound Dog's shoulders.

All Might watched while in his shrunken state. He knew that while Percy was nervous he had dealt with speeches like this before. He watched Percy close his eyes as he took a deep breath. And once they were open, the nervousness was gone as he grabbed the microphone.

UA Stadium

Percy was nervous. He should've known the rat would've done this. Then again considering how news traveled in Japan he realized he had no other choice. He's given battle speeches before but this was different. Instead of thirty people, it was millions. He took a deep breath to calm his nerves before grabbing the microphone.

"Thank you all for gathering here today. As you all know by now, unless you've been busy for over two weeks and haven't checked the news, my name is Perseus Jackson. I was born in Manhattan, New York in 1993. Don't worry though, these old bones are strong enough that I will not need help crossing the street thank you very much" Percy joked. He stopped as he let the crowd chuckle for a moment as he continued "Also I know I look young but ladies, and gentlemen even though I don't swing that way, I would like to apologize now as I am not looking for any relationships at this time. Mostly because I do not want to be seen as a pedophile of any sorts" he carried on with the joke and the chuckle turned into full on laughter at the innuendo. Iida could not help but smile at the joke as his peers couldn't hold their laughter whatsoever, except for Todoroki who struggled to maintain a straight face.

Percy then stopped smiling as he took a more serious tone. "I'm sure you all know by now how I came into this world. How I was fighting a villain who was manipulating time. And in his final moments, he decided to be a sore loser and use whatever was left of his power to send the whole world back in time as he self-destructed. What you don't know is that that villain had manipulated many would-be heroes into joining his crusade by taking advantage of their anger, causing a civil war that would end the world as we knew it. I had lost far too many friends thanks to that bastard's schemes that I would not allow him to win like that and so I grabbed him and threw myself off of a cliff, effectively sacrificing myself" he explained as he closed his eyes a single tear fell as he continued "But instead of just blowing up, the explosion sent me flying through space and time before I ended up here. And when I woke up, I saw villains attacking children, for no reason other than to hurt heroes. I could not allow that to happen so I intervened. But still I didn't exactly know where I was until after I woke up one whole day after the attack. When I finally realized where I was, and the current date, I was devastated. I was in a foreign country, in a different timeline, with no way of going home to my friends, family, and loved ones. It would've been so easy to give up the will to live, especially since the one thing I tried to accomplish was out of my grasp."

Everyone stopped as they heard this confession. The crowd was silent, the students were horrified. Bakugo was stunned, so was Todoroki, Iida, and Kirishima. Midoriya however knew what this was building up to. He and Percy did talk about this during the week they trained, how Percy felt useless when he found out where and when he was. But he also knew what Percy was about to say. And when Percy opened his eyes, Midoriya smiled as everyone saw the fire in his eyes return with a passion.

Percy raised his voice as he yelled out, "But that would insult the memories of the friends I made and lost, something I would never be able to live with. If they could hear me right now I know they would yell out at me for being so weak. They would push me to stand up to keep walking and keep fighting, cause that's what a hero does no matter how bad the situation is. And Nezu saw that I needed a goal to keep myself from falling into despair and challenged me. Get the top spot. And so I pledge to each and every single one of you here that I will give 110% of my blood, my sweat, my tears, my heart, and my soul to win today! Not just for a spot in UA, not just for heroes watching to see my worth, but to honor the memories of my friends and loved ones and show them that I am still standing proudly with my hand held high."

Cheers erupted from the crowd as Percy declared his pledge. Kirishima was crying at the sight of manliness as was another student from Class 1-B. But Percy wasn't done. He looked down towards the students before shouting "And to the students of UA. I ask. No I DEMAND that all of you put in the same amount of effort. I don't care which class you're in. Show me the powers you have. Show me the skills you learned. Show me the tricks you picked up. Show me what brought you to UA. SHOW ME YOUR PLUS ULTRA!"

After that statement, the students all roared in unison with their hands in the air, the crowd joining them as the heroes watching smiled at Percy's passion. Mirko was grinning from ear to ear at the young man's boldness to call his competition out. Nagant was smiling as she saw the passion in Percy's speech. And Ryukyu was smirking at Mirko.

Mt Olympus

"Well well well. Look at that, Percy knows how to motivate a crowd" Hermes commented as they all heard his speech. Percy's joke about being a pedophile actually made Hera, Artemis and Athena glare at the other male gods as they complained "Why can't you be like him?" while the demigods, Grover, and Sally were rolling on the floor laughing . But at the confession Annabeth had to stop herself from crying. Everyone had watched in a grim mood but Thalia and Clarisse were livid. They were about to yell at the projection when Percy made his pledge. And when Poseidon saw the fire in his son's eyes, he smiled. His son was still fighting the good fight. Even with all that he had lost, he wouldn't fall into despair. Sally smiled as well as she shed a tear during the speech. Annabeth swore to herself that she would find a way to bring him back safely, so that she could smack him and kiss him.

As Percy left the podium and was greeted by the horde of students, everyone decided to check the competition. Annabeth and Athena's eyes drew towards the green haired kid who was standing to his left. "Annabeth, isn't that the same boy who injured himself trying to save Jackson?" "Yes mother, Izuku Midoriya, who somehow is the one of the brighter students in his class. He was actually able to identify Percy in his disguise" Annabeth replied.

Apollo was leering at the woman in the dominatrix suit who was still on the podium. "WOW! I didn't realize the future allowed for such risqué clothing" he yelled out, diverting everyone's attention to her. All of the women, barring Aphrodite, were shocked. 'Why would anyone willingly dress like that in public and enjoy herself?' They all thought at the same time as most of the men, barring Poseidon, Hades, and Chronos, were openly drooling.

Chronos smiled as he stated "That is a pro hero named Midnight. From what I can tell you, her quirk allows her to release a scent which forces people who smell it to fall asleep. And the more attracted the person is towards her, the more effective it is. So it's a good thing she's in the future, who knows what she could've done to you. You all might just fall under her spell."

That shut everyone up and allowed them to focus back on the event. The first part of the Festival had been announced, an Obstacle Race? "Surely they meant something more challenging. A race? Seriously?" Ares moaned, as did Clarisse at the anti-climax.

Athena and Artemis were disgusted at the fact they agreed with Ares "Honestly, the obstacles had better be worth something. I highly doubt a race of that magnitude would challenge Jackson, especially with Hermes's blessing "Athena stated with Artemis agreeing. Poseidon stayed quiet but he shared the same mentality.

Chronos just stayed silent as he watched the events unfold, knowing that soon a certain blacksmith would be jealous.

Percy took a deep breath as he readied himself. Midnight had just announced that the first event was an obstacle race. He wasn't going to complain as he wanted to preserve his stamina for the next two events. He took notice of the narrow doorway, just big enough to allow the large number of students through but not without them pushing and shoving each other.

As soon as Midnight's whip hit, he took off getting to the doorway faster than anyone else. He didn't look back as he exited into the wide open space in front, but he could hear the grunts of everyone trying to push each other out of the way. Suddenly he noticed the ground freeze, as did his ankles. Turning around, he saw ice covering the entire ground with people having their feet stuck. 'Of course HotNCold would do that. But this actually helps' he thought to himself as he gathered some of the ice on the ground and covered himself in it, making an armor out of ice. Once done he got back to the run, turning his icy feet into skates

"AMAZING! NOT ONLY DID CLASS 1-A AVOID TODOROKI'S ICE, BUT NOW JACKSON HAS ABSORBED IT AND CREATED AN ARMOR OUT OF IT. BUT WON'T THAT SLOW HIM DOWN?!" Percy paid little attention to the commentary, from Present Mic he assumed, as he started skating down the icy ground. With the ice on his feet he was more balanced and waved as he passed Todoroki before retracting the skates.

"Clearly it didn't. You forget Jackson has the ability to manipulate water. So while Todoroki's surprise attack trapped mostly everyone, Jackson was essentially given free ammunition." Another voice, Aizawa possibly, answered.

As Percy ran, he noticed several of Todoroki's classmates were gaining on the two. All of a sudden he stopped just as dozens of robots appeared from the ground. The entire student body watched as robots of varying sizes stood in their way. However when Percy looked at the massive ones at the back, deep seated hatred flowed in him as he glared at them, remembering how Hepheastus's version of Talos killed Bianca. He took a deep breath as large chunks of the ice armor broke off into shards which he then launched at the giants hitting them in the retinas. He kept the ones protecting his arms as he transformed them into shields, before running straight through the rest shoving every mechanical being aside. The others either were attacking the robots or avoiding them as they tried to keep up.

Mt Olympus

The robots took everyone by surprise. They knew that mortals would improve on technology. But this was still incredible. Hepheastus was openly drooling at the sight, yelling at Percy to leave them alone which did not end well as he had to dodge a trident and a spear from a glaring Poseidon and Athena. But Thalia and Grover felt the same hatred towards the robotic giants as they too recalled Bianca's death. Annabeth watched as Percy had changed the ice gauntlets into shields before turning on Daedalus's laptop. She then opened the file named "Seaweed Brain's Hero Suit" which displayed a blueprint she made for a possible suit. She studied the sleeves as she added gauntlets to both arms with a tube at each end which would then trace to a hydration pack. Athena noticed her daughter working and shrank as she walked towards her "Improving on the design?" she asked.

Annabeth responded while still adjusting the gauntlets. "You never know what problems Seaweed Brain has to deal with in that world. And considering that he still would need to draw on water every now and then to revitalize, it's best to make sure he has access to it," Annabeth responded. Hestia had also come up to the duo and asked "Did you make sure it's fireproof? I don't believe that you want his clothes to burn up leaving him topless. Even if we already saw it" she asked teasingly as Annabeth blushed at the image.

Poseidon shook his head as he listened in. He hoped that his son would have issues with other females wanting his attention, and considering how possessive Athena could be, he wished his son the best of luck.

UA Stadium

Percy didn't have to look back to know who was behind him. Todoroki was right behind him, so was Bakugou and several of the students. He heard cannon fire which he realized could only be Yaoyarozu. Nezu had sent him files on the students which he had memorized during his training. He kept his attention forward as he reached a cliff. He stopped at the edge and stared at the canyon ahead, noticing the ropes that connected several cliffs making a narrow pathway. Instead of testing his balance however, he shifted the ice shields, turning them into a grappling hook with a long rope. Smiling at Todoroki, he waved as he leaped forward to the next cliff, propelling himself by blasting fire from his feet. Once he reached the first one he would repeat the process, blasting himself off and if he didn't land he would use the grappling hook to ensure his safety. The downside was that the others were beginning to catch up. As he reached the end, Todoroki was getting closer so were Bakugou and the others.

Percy kept running to the next obstacle, focusing on the race ahead. When he reached it though he had to stop. The ground ahead was filled with mines. He knew for sure that they weren't lethal, but he wasn't willing to find out how explosive they were. Weighing his options, he took a deep breath, filling his lungs with a ton of air, before closing his mouth as he sank into the ground, with Todoroki looking at where Percy was in shock.

"Um, what just happened? Why did he need to take that much air?" Present Mic asked the question the audience and the students who saw Percy just sink to the ground were asking themselves. A facepalm was heard as Aizawa shook his head.

"He's underground. He's avoiding the mines completely and running underneath them. But to do that he needed to take in as much air as possible. Don't just stand there. He's getting closer to the end!" Aizawa all but yelled. This prompted the others to navigate the minefield carefully but swiftly. Bakugou was still ticked off with Todorki's challenge earlier that he created explosions to get closer to Todoroki, who was close to the end of the minefield. When Bakugou reached the dual haired teen, he began to spar with him yelling "You should've challenged me in your declaration!" As they fought, Midoriya had just arrived with a large robot piece. He took in the situation ahead, several students watching their every step in the deeper parts of the field, and used the piece he acquired to dig up mines, confusing those around him.

Once he dug up as many mines as he could, he set them all in a bundle as he took some steps backwards. Realizing what he was about to do, Jirou, who was the last person to pass him, covered her ears tightly as Midoriya ran towards the pile and dove onto the pile with the robotic piece in front. The resulting explosion sent him flying into the sky as he passed everyone including Bakugou and Todoroki who had to stop their spar. Todoroki froze the ground and ran while Bakugou kept using explosions just so they could catch up to Midoriya. Midoriya however realized that while he covered a large distance, he still needed one more blast in order to clear himself. So as he fell, he waited as both boys got closer and closer. Once the three were inches apart, Midoriya twisted his body and slammed the piece he was carrying on the ground, setting off some mines as he propelled himself forward while the two were blinded.

Once Midoriya rolled into a run, the ground shifted as Percy emerged just ahead of him. The two smiled at each other and ran as hard as they could to the finish line. Realizing that he couldn't match Percy's pace, Midoriya called on One For All, using 5% of his power which helped to boost his speed allowing him to get closer, which shocked the entire audience. Suddenly Percy and Midoriya were neck and neck in first place, while Todoroki and Bakugou were scrambling to catch up.

Everyone waited in suspense as they were watching who would come out first. Suddenly the first person to enter the stadium appeared, standing tall as he took a deep breath, sweat dripping from his black hair as he raised his fist. Percy had emerged victorious in his first hurdle. Midoriya was next taking deep breaths as he hunched over. Todoroki was third to come out with Bakugou just behind him.

Percy smiled as he walked to Midoriya, lowering his fist to his hip and extending it. Knowing what Percy had in mind, Midoriya balled his hand up and fist bumped him, ushering a cheer from the crowd at the sportsmanship while the other two were glaring.

Seat 280

Ryukyu was beaming. Not only did she spot potential interns, she had also noticed that her friends were also invested. Kaina-chan was drawn to Midoriya who used his wits to surpass his classmates until he had no other choice but to use his quirk against Jackson, while Rumi-chan kept her eyes on Jackson. She couldn't lie to herself now. Rumi found a potential intern. But still she was concerned "You're not leaving the second event Rumi-chan are you? I know you hate teams but you can't deny these first years have potential" she asked.

Mirko had to fight the bile in her throat at the mention of team ups. She hated it with a passion, often due to the fact that she had to climb tooth and nail just so that she could prove to all those who made fun of her and her quirk back then wrong. She refused help, not for selfishness but pride. But she knew that there were some people she could not beat just on her own. She sighed as she sat back down. "Jackson was good. He wasn't perfect, but his situational awareness is on point. Other than that, not bad. The others were decent. Endeavor's brat looked strong and focused. Bakugo wears his emotions on his sleeve. The rest were meh" Rumi gave her opinion

Kaina scoffed at the statement as she replied "You seem to have forgotten someone. The brat who got second place used his head, not his quirk to overcome the obstacles. The only time he used his quirk was when he was one on one with Jackson. Which seems odd, from what we had heard, Midoriya seemed like he couldn't use his quirk without injuring himself, and was limited to using his fingers. It seems that he either adjusted his quirk to lessen the damage or he's able to use his quirk with ease" she theorized.

Ryukyu nodded "Not to mention Yaoyarozu's leadership in the first obstacle. Like I said this crop is determined, especially in Class 1-A. It seems that villain attack has motivated them to do as best as possible. Jackson might just have his work cut out for him" she stated, not knowing what effect her words had.

Mt Olympus

Zeus was glaring at the projection. Why? Because Jackson had dared to enter his domain. Using Hestia's gift, he had launched himself into the atmosphere seven times, blatantly ignoring the warning Zeus had given him years ago. Hera noticed her husband's glare and slapped him. "Don't even think about it. He's not doing that to taunt you only to win" she stated to her husband who had apologized profusely.

The rest of the gods watched the event with intrigue. Poseidon was curious as to how the dual haired teen could manipulate ice at such a high level, while Hephaestus seemed to be in love with a young pink haired inventor who used her 'babies' to get by the cliffs.

Annabeth had to laugh as Chiron sighed at Bakugou stating he was just another Clarisse, much to the dismay of the brunette who took offense to the comparison. Grover was intrigued by a girl with vines as hair. All in all, the first event provided everyone with information and entertainment. "That was a lively event" Dionysus stated before staring at a grape haired teen who was apologizing to a black haired girl and a purple haired girl with earjacks. "Oh come on, that kid did nothing wrong. There's nothing wrong with a little flirTIING! ARTEMIS WHAT THE HADES IS WRONG WITH YOU!" he yelled as three arrows were embedded around his head while one was far too close too his groin

Said goddess was fuming. That grape haired midget had latched himself onto the girl's back as she crossed the minefield. "That parasite better watch himself or he will feel my wrath. That kind of behavior is the exact reason my hunters hate men with a vengeance. Jackson better make sure that leech behaves," she threatened as she knocked a fifth arrow in her bow aiming it at the wine god's head, causing him to gulp. Ares had to hide behind his throne while Zeus just rubbed his temples. Aphrodite however smiled as she recalled her first interaction with the young demigod. "Fear not Artemis. Percy is far too good of a man to let his urges overwhelm him. After all, he was able to keep himself composed during our conversation. You should know by now how men react whenever I'm around. And yet somehow while there were a few stares his heart was pure. I'm sure he will not take this lightly" she comforted the ranger who was wary of the love goddess.

Sally blushed as she remembered an experience she and Percy would rather forget that forced him to keep his hormones under control. Hestia, noticing the woman's distress, walked over to her and asked, "Is everything alright, Mrs. Jackson?" She politely asked to which Sally responded a bit too quickly, "Oh nothing's wrong. I just remembered something that happened back then that was a bit uncomfortable, that's all. Nothing to worry about."

Chronos called to everyone as he stated, "The next event is about to be announced. Now please stay seated, stay calm, and no attacks on the projection"

UA Stadium

Percy had to bite his cheek before getting angry. That grape haired midget actually leeched himself onto Yaoyorozu as they both crossed the finish line. Luckily Jirou had yanked him off as the both scolded him. For a moment he had to take a deep breath as he watched his surroundings. Quite a lot of students made it through the first event. He noticed Midoriya blushing as breathless Uraraka complimented him, which he couldn't help but smile. Suddenly he noticed Midnight on the podium with a large projection behind her showing all the contestant's rankings. Curiously, he saw forty three names total making him wonder why.

"Congratulations on completing the Obstacle Course. As you can see, these are your rankings. But don't think that you're in the clear. For this next event you will compete in" she announced as a massive wheel appeared on the projection. The wheel was spun to determine what the next event was. It then stopped at a phrase to which Midnight finished "a Cavalry Battle! Each of you will be given a certain amount of points based on your position." Suddenly 5 pts appeared next to the name in last place, Aoyama, before increasing by 5 for the next person and 5 more for the next.

Perct knelt a bit to Midoriya as he explained "It's basically an event where you team up with either one, two or three other students. One person serves as the horse in the front, while another is hoisted on their shoulder, the others would be at the side." Percy nodded as he heard several groans before everyone decided to speculate about the strategies. As Midnight slashed her Cat O'Nine Tails, Percy suddenly felt dread. If he finished in first, that meant that he would get the most points. And knowing his luck, Midnight was bound to give him an absurdly large number.

Midnight smiled as Todoroki's amount of points was revealed before she stated "Having finished second and first respectively, Izuku Midoriya and Perseus Jackson will be awarded 10 million and 20 million points as a result. And I understand what you're all thinking. We have an uneven number of students so what are we going to do?" She then turned to Percy as she licked her lips. "Perseus Jackson wished that he earned his spot. And thus he will have to compete in this event BY HIMSELF!"

A roar of approval was heard as every single student stared at Percy. Originally they had stared at both Midoriya and Percy due to the large bounty placed on them. But now Percy was all alone. He lowered his head muttering a curse towards Nezu before chuckling. That chuckle turned into a full blown laughter confusing everyone. Then suddenly his expression changed. He smiled from ear to ear as he raised his arm with his palm extended. Then what little ice remained he combined it with his sweat before willing it in front of him. He then wrote a Japanese phrase which sent the entire stadium into a meltdown

'Motte Kite!' Translation 'Just Bring It!'

Phew, another chapter done. Now I would like to apologize for the long wait. Unexpected health issues hit my family hard and as a result, I could barely focus on this chapter. But anyways First event down with Percy just edging Midoriya. And yes I am keeping the Cavalry Battle. I understand why people find it a bit boring but bear with me.

Next Time: Percy faces a tall task. He's been awarded the most points. And as a result he stands alone. How will he cope?
