PS 2 – The Reunion
Three weeks had gone by and even though Yuto wasn't any closer to solving the mystery of how he came to be in this world, he at least was getting used to the people around him as to not rise suspicion. He got to meet his other friends from the Spade Branch, but was postponing dueling in fear of having a different style from his counterpart of this world. Also, he still needed to check out a little better his deck which appeared to revolve around bringing out Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon, his "ace monster" as Shun called it.
School was easy, although it helps when you were in fact 18 years old. Sharing Yuya's body before helped a lot too, because that way he was kind of used to his 13-years-old body. His friends were good people; Shun was a nice guy once you got to know him and Ruri was really sweet, completely different from the Yuzu he met in his world. It helped that she reminded him a lot of his mother. Spending time with them was fun, but the activities they did together reminded him of his brothers… who he really wanted to see again. They used to spend a lot of time with each other and the last time they were all physically together it was summer, so basically they were together all day long. Helping Yuri with his garden, watching riding duels with Yugo or watching over Yuya when he was performing at the park.
Right now, he was taking a walk by the harbor in the outsides of the city. It was close to sunset and the relatively quietness of the place helped him think. A piece of useful information he had was that Kaito's dad was a scientist, maybe he could help him, however, he could need to come clean about himself.
What to do? Thought Yuto.
Suddenly he heard a motorcycle in the distance. Turning at the sound, he found it to be coming from the highway above him. Living with Yugo taught him to always be aware of motorcycles. He had the bad habit of running over them since they were kids, especially him. He heard another one, but this time closer to where he was. Turning around he found a motorcycle going at high speed in his direction. He was going to jump out of the way when he recognized the design.
A D-Wheel! Can it be…?
Jumping out of the way at the last second, the motorcycle stopped close to him. There, in front of Yuto was a white and yellow motorcycle with a guy in a white riding suit. The guy went down of the vehicle and took out his helmet. White skin, blue and yellow hair, clear blue eyes, and a big smile; that was his younger brother Yugo, who also had a younger appearance like him instead of the 18-year-old guy Yuto was used to.
"Yugo!" cried Yuto who couldn't believe his eyes.
"Yuto! I—,"
"What the hell, Yugo?! Why do you always try to run over me!?" said Yuto interrupting his brother.
"What? I don't try to always run over you!" shouted Yugo. "It was just one time, okay, maybe three or four times, why do you guys cannot let it— ".
He was once again interrupted but this time because Yuto hugged him. Yugo stopped talking, really surprised that Yuto was hugging him (with him being the least affective of the brothers and all) but Yugo had really missed his older brother too and quickly hugged him back. Some tears went down both guys' eyes. They enjoyed the sweet reunion for a little moment and it was Yuto who separated first.
"I'm really happy to see you," said Yuto, "how did you get here?"
Yugo was a little sad with the end of the hug (in moments like this he really wanted Yuya, who was the only overly affective one out of all his brothers and gave the best hugs) when suddenly he remembered.
"We need to go! Yuri is waiting for us," said Yugo.
"What? Yuri is here too?" said Yuto. Seeing Yugo was already a big surprise, but now it seemed Yuri was in Heartland City too.
"Yeah, we separated to search for you. I told him it was going to be faster with my D-Wheel." Yugo just smiled and went over to his motorcycle.
"C'mon, we need to talk," he said moving his head to his back to signal Yuto to sit behind him. "You'll never believe where I was."
Yuto had a lot of questions but it will be better if they were all together. He went behind Yugo and said:
"Put on your helmet."
"Yes, mom," said Yugo with fond exasperation in his voice. Yuto hasn't changed a bit.
They both put on their helmets and Yugo accelerated in the direction of the highway to go to another part of the city, where he and Yuri were going to meet up.
Meanwhile, in a construction site closed for the day, there was a well-dressed boy with a purple uniform and a jacket worn as a cape. He has purple and pink hair and magenta eyes. He was reading something on his duel disk while waiting for his younger brother to arrive. Suddenly, he heard a motorcycle getting closer.
Have to move before Yugo tries to run over me, the boy thought to himself.
It was not necessary because he heard a voice shouting:
"Slow down! I see him!"
The motorcycle started to slow down and now the boy could see that it had in fact two people and not one. That and the voice he heard make him known that Yugo was successful in finding their brother, Yuto.
When the D-Wheel stopped, the driver took off his helmet and started to yell:
"This is the reason I don't like you riding with me! You always scream a lot!"
"If you were careful while driving, I wouldn't need to yell at you!" shouted Yuto back after taking off his own helmet.
Yugo was going to retort when a voice made both boys look in front of them.
"Nice to see you're both full of energy."
"Yuri!" shouted Yuto and Yugo.
The second eldest brother, Yuri, was watching them with a smile on his face. He too seemed to be in his 13-year-old body. Yuto went to hug his other brother and Yuri received the hug, having missed his brother too. Yugo didn't want to be left out so he went into the hug too.
"Yuu-hug!" said Yugo.
The "Yuu-hug" was the name Yuya gave their family hugs because every member had the syllable "yu" in their names. When Yuya was a baby and just starting to talk, each brother wanted his first word to be their name; their parents wanted his first word to be mom or dad because the triplets' first words were a mess (Yuto's was "stop", Yuri's was "stupid" and Yugo's was "wheel"). Yuya would start to say "Yuu~" and everyone would get excited waiting for the next syllable, but baby Yuya got confused because he didn't know what to say next, as all the names seemed the same to him. Even their parents gave up and were going to conform themselves with their given names, not wanting to lose to their children. In the end his first word was "hug" because he could ask for all "Yuu's" to give him a hug.
Yuri was the first one to move away.
"It's good to see you, Yuto" said Yuri.
"It's good to see you too… both of you, actually" said Yuto. "But how exactly did you get here? You are not living in the city, right?"
"That's correct", said Yuri, "we're not from this dimension."
Dimension? Thought Yuto. His brothers knew him well because Yugo answered his silent question.
"Yes, exactly as Yuri said, we're living in different dimensions. You may have noticed but this place only has XYZ summoning, right?"
Yuto nodded at that.
"Yes, this place only has XYZ summoning. There are no records whatsoever of the other summoning methods."
"We're the same," said Yuri, "I'm living in the Fusion Dimension which only has fusion summoning and I found Yugo in the Synchro Dimension which only has synchro summoning."
"How is it possible?" asked Yuto, "And… you found Yugo? Did you travel through dimensions? And what about Yuya? Is there a pendulum dimension too?" Yuto was happy he reunited with his brothers but now he had even more questions.
"I have the same questions as you, brother, but Yuri here didn't want to tell me anything until we found you", said Yugo.
Yuto and Yugo turned to look at their brother.
"I'll tell you everything I know," said Yuri, "however, first I need you to tell me what you know."
Typical Yuri, thought Yuto, always wanting answers first.
"Damn you Yuri, why won't you just tell us!" shouted Yugo.
"What do you want to know?" asked Yuto knowing that it was best to go with what Yuri wanted to then get information himself.
"Whatever you think may be important," said Yuri.
Yuto went first. He told them the last thing he remembered was dying for good after freeing Yuya's Adam Factor so he could defeat G.O.D. He told them about waking up in the dormitories of Heartland Duel School (where he is a student) after having an accident in a duel the day before. He talked about his friends (they were really shocked to hear that Kurosaki Shun was his friend here and that he has a little sister) and his life in the school trying to maintain a low profile because he told no one the truth about himself. Finally, he told them how he has tried to find any trace about them or their father, even considering going to visit a scientist that may know something.
"Having Dark Anthelion Dragon with me and a strange dream I had before waking up confirmed that my memories are real," said Yuto.
Yugo was going to ask something, but Yuri beat him to it.
"Do you have any family here?"
"No, only a so-called long-distance aunt who I don't remember ever having back in our world," said Yuto.
Yuri seemed satisfied with his answers.
"Damn, Yuto bastard," said Yugo, "you have it really nice here."
"What do you mean?" asked Yuto.
"Well, the last thing I remember from our world is the same thing as you and then I woke up in my counterpart's body who I found out lives in Neo Domino City in the Synchro Dimension and… it's awful. Remember how we visited the city when we were kids, well, in this world it's completely different," said Yugo. "The society is divided in Tops and Commons, the winners are the Tops and they hold 99% of the City's wealth and the Commons, we live in the slums and yes, I'm a Common. There's also something called Security who only exists to make life more awful than it already is for the Commons."
Yuto couldn't believe what he was hearing. At least his counterpart lived a nice life in Heartland City.
"The only good thing is that I have my D-Wheel and that everyone uses synchro summoning, the best summoning method, really, and I suppose the city has some really cool Duel lanes which damn, I would really love to have a turbo duel there."
"Really? Are you that simple?" said Yuri, "And fusion summoning is way better."
"Listen here, you little—" said Yugo.
Yuto broke the fight before it even started.
"And are you okay? Are you alone? Do you have a ceiling over your head?" asked Yuto.
Seeing the worried face in his brother, Yugo reassured him.
"I'm okay, don't worry too much, I may have woken up after an accident in my D-Wheel, but I live with this friend of my counterpart— ah!" suddenly exclaimed Yugo. "This friend, her name is Rin and she looks exactly like Yuzu, they have the same face and all. At first, I thought she was with me."
Huh, a friend with the same face as Yuzu. That sounds exactly like Ruri, would it be a coincidence? Yuto didn't notice but Yuri was watching him closely after Yugo's exclamation.
"I tried to tell her who I really am," said Yugo, "and even showed her my ace monster but she couldn't believe me. I have been trying to act as "normal" as possible around her and to not mention the truth again."
"With your ace, do you mean...?" asked Yuto.
"Clear Wing Fast Dragon, of course" said Yugo. "Though I have to admit my counterpart did have a really good deck and a nice ace monster, even without pendulum cards." Yugo showed them his ace monster.

"I have been trying to use my "normal ace" to not worry Rin," said Yugo, "here I use Clear Wing Synchro Dragon a monster which I'm pretty sure didn't existed back in our world."
Interesting, thought Yuto, because in this world his counterpart's ace monster was Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon. Each of them was send to a dimension perfect for them considering their preferred summoning method.
"How did you get here?" asked Yuto.
"Yuri found me in the city, and we used his duel disk to jump dimensions," said Yugo. "He told me we should find you first before asking questions and before you ask, he hasn't told me anything."
Finally, after having their stories out it was Yuri's turn. Yuto thought he must have the most information out of all of them, considering his duel disk was the one with jumping-dimensions abilities and with him being not that surprised of their respective situations.
"Well?" asked Yuto.
"Just give me a moment to collect my thoughts," said Yuri.
They let him think for some minutes and when it seemed Yugo was going to start protesting, Yuri started to talk.
"Please don't interrupt me until I finish. I know you'll have questions, but I need you to keep them to yourselves until I tell you everything. I have a lot of things to tell you."
Both brothers gave him a nod knowing it must be serious, Yuri was very polite but he almost never said "please" with real meaning behind it.
"The last thing I remember is the same as you and as both of you, I woke up in my counterpart's body after he had an accident. He's— or well, I'm a student at Duel Academia in the Fusion Dimension. As its name says, it's a duel school but instead of pro duelists, it trains soldiers for an incoming war between the four dimensions."
War?! A war between dimensions? Thought Yuto. Yugo was going to say something, but a little bump and a look from Yuto made him stop. Later he tried to convey through his eyes.
"I woke up in a medical center in Academia and they told me I was an orphan who had grown-up inside the school" continued Yuri. "It seems I have a high position in this army because the other students either look up to me or are afraid of me, more of the latter, really"
Just like Yuri, thought Yuto and going by Yugo's smile he was thinking the same thing.
"It took some time, but I managed to obtain some really important classified information related to this universe and the war," said Yuri. "Yuya would have been very useful, hacking is more his thing."
Yugo and Yuto became a little sad thinking about their little brother whose whereabouts were still unknown considering only the three of them were present.
"I'm going to share with you this information, it's really important that you don't discuss or share it with anyone else," said Yuri. He took out his duel disk (another different design from the one back home, thought Yuto) and connected to Yuto's and Yugo's. There were various files and Yuto opened the one titled "ARC Area Project".
"Like anyone would believe us, really" said Yugo. Yuri ignored him and continued.
"Later you can read them completely, for now I will give you the abridge version. According to Academia, this universe had one world called the Original Dimension. There was an awful battle against a very powerful duelist who went mad and tried to destroy the world. Another duelist battled him and won, but the clash broke up the dimension in four; the XYZ Dimension, the Synchro Dimension, the Fusion Dimension and the Standard Dimension. Each dimension specializes in a summoning method, except Standard which has them all. Even though Standard Dimension has them all it doesn't have pendulum summoning, which also didn't exist in the Original Dimension."
"No pendulum summoning?" Yugo could not stop himself from asking.
"As I said—," Yuri cut himself and continued, "I even went to the Standard Dimension to search for Yuya and confirmed it with my eyes, they don't have pendulum summons".
"What?!" shouted Yugo, "You could have started there!"
"Did you find him?" asked Yuto. If only they were all together, they could leave their respective lives and live together somewhere quiet like a family again.
"I'll tell you in a moment," said Yuri and both brothers were going to protest but Yuri gave them the look, "First let me finish with other things." They let him continue.
"As I was saying, I went to the Standard Dimension after I confirmed none of you were in the Fusion Dimension. It took some time because even if my duel disk has transportation abilities to jump dimensions, it has a tracker, which means Academia knows if I leave without proper authorization. Once again, Yuya could have been very useful but I managed. Then, I thought if I was in the Fusion Dimension, Yugo would be in Synchro, Yuto in XYZ and Yuya in Standard; out of all of us he's the only one to actively use all summoning methods. I picked Yuya first because I was a little worried about him, considering the last time we saw him he was battling a megalomaniac dragon."
"Indeed," said Yuto, "he always manages to get in trouble". Yugo nodded to that.
"I— I did find him," said Yuri and before his brothers could get excited, he continued, "but! But… he wasn't our Yuya."
"What do you mean with not our Yuya?" asked Yugo.
"Exactly as it sounds," said Yuri. "We all took the place of our counterpart of this universe. Before we came here, there was a Yuto in XYZ Dimension, a Yugo in Synchro Dimension, a Yuri in Fusion Dimension and of course, a Yuya in Standard Dimension. They all had different lives as you may have seen, different relationships, different decks and, the most important thing, no family whatsoever. At least we still have our ace monsters from our world. I checked and this Yuya doesn't have Odd-Eyes Phantom Dragon; his ace monster isn't even a pendulum monster because it doesn't exist here." Yuri took out his own ace monster to show them.
Starving Venemy Dragon DARK – Level 7/PS 1 – DRAGON/FUSION/PENDULUM/EFFECT – ATK 2500/DEF 2000
Yuri was right. The boys' personalities were similar to these universe's counterparts, but they were not the same because they had different backgrounds and relationships. Their ace monsters were the absolute proof that they were different people.
"I believe when we died for good in our world, we somehow were sent to this universe and took the place of the people that already lived here," said Yuri. "The problem is that this universe has the world divided in four dimensions."
"So Yuya was not sent here, is what you're saying," said Yuto.
Yuri just nodded.
"It's not fair," said Yugo.
And the other two thought the same. They came to a new world without the threat of G.O.D. over them but not everyone was here. The three of them could live together, however, they will always know someone is missing.
"And that's not the worst of it," said Yuri.
"What?! How can it be worst?" asked Yugo.
"I mentioned a war between dimensions, right?" said Yuri. "This war is with the purpose to unite the four dimensions into a new one, the ARC V Dimension, and to accomplish that they need a lot of energy which Academia is planning to obtain by turning people into cards."
"What?!" shouted Yugo, "People into cards?"
"We got away from one battle into another one," said Yuto. "When are we going to live in peace?"
"There's more," said Yuri.
"Of course, there's more," said Yugo under his breath.
"There is a second plan going underway at the same time as the ARC Area Project, this one is called Revival Zero," said Yuri. "Remember how I said a pro duelist defeated the evil in the Original Dimension, her name was Akaba Ray."
"Wait!" said Yuto, "Akaba as in Akaba Reiji and Akaba Leo?"
"Yes, as those Akaba," said Yuri. "When the world divided in four, it appears she separated into four people too. In my universe, there is this girl called Serena who is the Fusion piece of Akaba Ray and I'm pretty sure you already meet the other pieces of XYZ and Synchro as well."
So, it was not a coincidence, thought Yuto, Yuri came to the same conclusion as me, having the same face had a deeper meaning.
"What? Really?" asked Yugo, "Who?"
"Your friend Rin," said Yuri, "the pieces of Akaba Ray have the same face as her—"
"No way?! Rin is a piece?" shouted Yugo interrupting Yuri who hit him to shup him up.
"Here in XYZ Dimension, I have this friend called Ruri. She has a really similar face to Yuzu, the same as Rin and probably Serena, right?" said Yuto directly to Yuri.
"Yes, impressive," said Yuri, "I knew you would get it quickly."
Yugo was looking between the two of them not knowing what they were talking about.
"Hey! Don't leave me out and explain!" shouted Yugo.
"When Ray won the battle, the world and she divided in four. You have XYZ Dimension with Ruri, Synchro Dimension with Rin, Fusion Dimension with Serena and Standard Dimension with Yuzu."
"Yuzu! She's here too!?" said Yugo.
"Yes, I saw her when I was in Standard, but she is not the same Yuzu we met and even less our mother," said Yuri. "She's the same as Yuya, her own person in this dimension or at least ¼ of a person, I guess. The unification of the dimensions is the ARC Area Project and the revival of Akaba Ray by uniting the four girls is the Revival Zero Project."
It was a lot of information to take in, a duel school was in the middle of a complot to probably kill them all and to complete these plans the Fusion Dimension was going to start a war with the other dimensions.
"Who is behind all of this?" asked Yuto.
"We call him Professor at Academia," said Yuri, "but you may recognize his name better, does Akaba Leo ring any bells?"
"Akaba Leo?" said Yugo, "Why? Is he trying to bring back his daughter? I didn't even know he had a daughter."
"In this universe or united universe or whatever, she had one it seems," said Yuto.
"I'm tired of being in the middle of world-changing plots," said Yugo with a little pout. "I just wanted to spend a nice day with my family after giving Yuya the best birthday present ever."
All of them were tired of fighting. Not only there was no Yuya in this universe, but sooner or later they may get involved in a war.
"Finally—" What there's even more? said Yugo but Yuri continued as if he didn't heard him,"—we are involved in this whole plot too."
"How so?" said Yuto.
"Have any of you tried to duel?" asked Yuri instead.
Yuto just negated with his head not understanding the point of the question and Yugo nodded.
"How do you feel?" asked Yuri.
"Well, it's strange, you guys know I'm the most driven to win out of all of us," said Yugo.
That's true. Out of the four of them, Yugo was the only one that was in his way to become a pro duelist, specializing in riding duels. Yuya was interesting in dueltaining like their dad but still hadn't decided on a clear path yet and Yuto and Yuri just liked to play casual. Before their world was destroyed, Yugo had even won a local riding duel tournament.
"But since I came here, my drive to win is… crazy," explained Yugo, "I even get angry when I'm not winning, like I want my opponent to suffer."
That's strange, thought Yuto. Yugo didn't like to lose but even when losing the duel, he never wanted to hurt anyone.
"I can even say it is worst when I use Clear Wing Synchro Dragon."
"Your counterpart's ace monster, right?" asked Yuri and Yugo nodded. "I'm the same, every time I duel I want to hurt my opponent and not just with words, I mean like physical damage. Also, when I use my counterpart's ace monster, Starving Venom Fusion Dragon, the desire is worst."
"This is related to one of the plans you told us about?" asked Yuto.
"Yes," said Yuri, "Revival Zero, in fact. I told you guys that in the Original Dimension there was this duelist that became mad and wanted to destroy the world, right?" Both brothers nodded their heads.
"When the world was divided, he got divided too," said Yuri.
Does it mean we are also—? Thought Yuto.
"Exactly as you think, brother of mine," said Yuri. "Our counterparts and Yuya are the pieces of that duelist, his name was Zarc."
"What?!" shouted Yugo.
"We're the reincarnate versions of the devil," said Yuri, "and if the Professor succeeds in his plan, it is possible we'll unite too and become Zarc."
"How could that even work?" asked Yugo.
Yuto couldn't speak, he was astonished. Even if they tried to escape the war, they will get involved in it.
"From what I understood from the Professor's notes, we'll be absorbed by Yuya because he's the main part of Zarc," said Yuri who then let out a little harsh laugh. "Are we doom to always die and then become a part of Yuya?"
It was getting late with the night almost upon them but the three brothers were quiet, each in his head taking in everything they had talked about.
Yuri already had some time to think about all of this, however, saying it out loud was different than just reading about it. After getting some information about the dimension he was living and disabling the tracker in his duel disk, he had thought about running away from Academia to find his brothers so they could live together, but fate had different plans for them.
After his failure of a meeting with Yuya, he was more careful about approaching his other brothers. When he returned to Academia after his visit to Standard, he decided to find even more information about Akaba Leo's plan and his expected part to play in the incoming war. Also, he was still withholding the story of his encounter with Yuya, the strange light that transported him far away from his youngest brother and his actual life in Academia. His life there was almost as bad as Yugo's but there was no need to worry his brothers more, especially Yuto who could get very protective over them. That will be a story for another time. His brothers already had a lot of things to think about.
Yugo was angry. He thought that after reuniting with Yuri and then finding Yuto, they could search Yuya and the four of them could go somewhere and live a nice quiet life in peace. He really liked the duel lanes of the Synchro Dimension, but the class division was awful and he didn't want his family living there. Maybe they could have invited Rin (who was like a mother to him) to live with them; she deserved something better as well. Now at least he knew why Rin reminded him so much of his mother, in a way she was. Yuri was right and they were cursed; always having to die for their little brother. Even having it much worst here because Yuya was fated to kill them and become the devil. If maybe their own brother (the one from their universe) were here too, they could find a way to prevent the resurrection of this Zarc guy.
Yuto knew more or less what was going inside his brother's' heads. Yuri still had things to say but was nice enough to not tell because Yugo would not take anymore. He really needed to talk with him in private. For the other part, Yugo must be angry about their situation. Being the older brother, Yuto was worried about everything but he needed to show a brave face to his brothers. Speaking of brothers, it really broke his heart knowing Yuya—their Yuya—didn't come to this universe as well, maybe he was still trapped in the past back in their world and will get to reunite with a new set of brothers when they are born there…
"We'll find G.O.D.'s makers and teach them a lesson!"
"I'm here, help… Yugo… Yuri… Yuto!"
Yuto remembered his dream and got an idea, a really crazy idea.
"Yuri, you said the ARC Area Project was to unite the four dimensions into one, right?" said Yuto.
"Yes, that's the plan," confirmed Yuri.
"What if— what if instead of uniting the dimensions, it opened a portal to another universe?" said Yuto.
Both Yuri and Yugo just turned and watched their older brother not understanding his point, not even Yuri who was more in sync with Yuto.
"Listen," said Yuto, "before waking up in this universe, I had a dream. A dream in which I saw Yuya's fate."
Yuri's eyes widened as if in understanding, meaning he knew what Yuto was talking about.
"I had a dream about Yuya too", said Yugo.
"Then you know what happened to him, right?" said Yuto. "He managed to defeat Genesis Omega Dragon, started a duel with Akaba Reiji to fight for the card and won. Then, he left through a portal to search for G.O.D.'s makers and finally he asked for help, he asked for our help."
"But Yuto, it was just a dream," said Yuri.
"Was it?" said Yuto back. "Listen guys, I have this feeling about Yuya and not only that he's missing, but that he needs our help. What if he is trapped in a whole different universe?"
"And you want to what?" asked Yuri.
"You want to use Akaba's plan to open a portal and bring Yuya to this universe?" said Yugo who surprisingly understood the idea first.
"Exactly," said Yuto with a smile in his face.
"Let's do it!" said Yugo getting excited, "maybe if we're all together we can prevent the resurrection of that Zarc guy."
"You guys are crazy," said Yuri, "even if we bring Yuya here it could probably only be his spirit, the same way as us. Where do you plan to put him?"
"Where else than in his own body," said Yuto with determination.
"You mean—?"
"Yes," said Yuto, "in this universe's Yuya."
Yugo and Yuri couldn't believe what they were hearing. Yuto was probably the kindest of the brothers and now he was saying that he wanted to practically kill one Yuya to save another Yuya. After all, the whereabouts of their counterparts were a mystery.
"I know what you guys are thinking," said Yuto.
"Then please enlighten me because that doesn't sound like you at all, Yuto" said Yuri.
"We deserve a happy ending too," started to explain Yuto. "From what you told us, the war is inevitable, the end result is our possible death at the hands of Yuya. The fate of the Yuya of this world is to become a demon. Do you guys want that to happen? Maybe what Yugo said is right, and with all of us together we can prevent the resurrection of Zarc. We have several advantages our counterparts didn't have; we know what's going on and we're family, we will protect each other. Maybe that's the reason we ended up in this world, to somehow help it."
It didn't take a lot to convince Yugo whose big smile midway through his speech already said enough.
"I think it's a great idea! We should do it!" he said.
They both turned to look at the second eldest. If they were going to do it, they needed to do it together.
"Well, I suppose it's better than doing nothing and letting fate catch up to us," he said.
"Then we have a plan," said Yuto.
"Nice!" shouted Yugo, "How are we going to make it happen?"
"I may have some ideas, "said Yuri looking to the side.
"Of course you have some ideas," said Yugo.
You could always count on Yuri or Yuya when you needed some quick thinking or thinking outside of the box. Duels against them are always exciting because of this and when the brothers do tag duels, Yuri and Yuya working together was the worst possible combination. Not even considering that Yuya made an excellent team with any of them, as his deck was the most versatile and can adapt to all summoning methods.
"The war is scheduled to start in one year," said Yuri, "Academia is going to start by invading the XYZ Dimension."
"Why the XYZ Dimension?" asked Yugo.
"I'm not directly involved in the planning of the war, the teachers are the ones overlooking that. However, if I have to give a reason it is because attacking the Standard Dimension is stupid. They know all summoning methods so people could be prepared to fight fusion summoning even with a surprise attack; it wouldn't be a quick and clean strike. The decision is then limited to Synchro or XYZ. Out of the two of them, XYZ is the most vulnerable if you take into account that XYZ monsters don't have levels, so you can prepare countermeasures to exploit that."
"XYZ monsters are not completely vulnerable," said Yuto a little hurt because that was his chosen summoning method.
"I didn't say they are completely vulnerable," said Yuri. "XYZ monsters are pretty easy to bring out after all, requiring the least amount of cards and the main requirement being monsters of the same level. The thing is when you prepare a strategy to specifically fight its characteristic as rank monsters, they become vulnerable. Each method is vulnerable in some way, for example, if I were to fight pendulum summoning, I would limit my opponent's spell/trap zone or break the scale."
Yuto just nodded to that because it was true. Leave it to Yuri to attack with hardcore facts.
"Are we going to interfere with the war?" asked Yugo. He wanted to know about his brother's plan.
"No, we're going to let it run its course," said Yuri, "and we're going to keep playing the parts we are meant to play."
Yuto and Yugo just looked at him with questioning eyes.
It was getting late with only the moon giving them a faint light and Yuri still needed to take Yugo back to his dimension. They decided to reunite again another time to discuss and prepare the plan. However, one thing was certain, they were going to save their younger brother no matter the cost.
Author notes
And there you go, a nice happy family reunion with only one person missing :)
I really enjoy writing all their interactions as brothers.
For special notes in case it wasn't clear the order is from oldest to youngest Yuto, Yuri, Yugo (triplets) and Yuya and right now we're before the events of the anime, aprox 1 year
If anyone has any questions don't hesitate to ask. Regarding the manga stuff I tried to follow canon events, relationships and characterization but I do add my own headcanons every once in a while to complete things.
Thanks for reading :)
