Note: Let me just go on a record and say that I mainly rate a number of my stories M to be safe. For the most part, I'm not sure of how dark they can get, as I usually start out on them or even have the story planned out in my head. Anyway, let's move aside from that. Before we begin, I want to say something to three reviewers.
The White Wolf Named Alex: Thanks. Sorry if I made it a little sad.
Big Bossk Man 82: Well, Corneria City is still reeling from the shooting that took place at Corneria College, so it's doubtful that a whole lot of people are optimistic after an event like that. As for Katt, she didn't find out about it until now. But, yeah, aside from learning about it, today is just not one of her good ones.
Ron: You and Katt do have something in common alright, although Katt is a pilot who comes from a star system that is likely very far away from ours.
Now that I've done that, it's time for chapter two.
Chapter 2: Catching Up
Hearing the voice that called her name, Katt put her arms down and got up from the ground. By doing that, the pink cat was able to see the person who was talking to her: Fara. The fennec was wearing a raincoat, complete with the hood on her head. She stood near her car, holding an umbrella tight enough for it to not slip through her hands. Upon seeing her friend, Katt shivered and approached her.
"H-hello, Fara!" The pink cat greeted.
"Katt, what are you doing out here?" Fara spoke. "Did your ship run out of fuel?"
"No, it's just low on battery power." Katt said. "I can walk back to my place, though."
"It would be better for you to get in my car, Katt." The fennec said. "If you try to walk home in the rain, you'll either freeze to death or die of pneumonia, assuming you don't get mugged, kidnapped, raped or even killed by some creep on the streets!"
"At least call a mechanic so that he can take my ship away for a battery replacement." The feline said.
Fara nodded, signaling that she would do so. As such, Katt climbed into the car, hoping that she would feel warmer. The seats had leather covering, which somewhat unnerved the pink cat. She didn't want to get the leather, let alone anything else in the car, wet. The vehicle was really nice, so the feline would feel bad if she ruined it. Looking ahead, she saw Fara calling someone on her communicator, presumably someone who would come for the Cat's Paw.
Sitting in the front seat was someone wearing a peddler's hat. Despite that, Katt could make out a familiar brown fur color on the person in-question. It was Sabre, who had married Fara months ago. The brown wolf was preoccupied with something, given how he was looking down. Considering how his previous profession was a Knight of Cerinia, Katt couldn't help but think that he was applying for a job. She didn't say anything, finding it rude to interrupt anything important, no matter what the situation was.
After two minutes of waiting, Katt saw Fara enter the car, getting in the driver's seat. Upon hearing his wife get in, Sabre looked up. The two then had a conversation.
"So, how was your video chat?" Fara asked.
"Not bad, really." Sabre said. "While I couldn't do much, at least I got it out of the way."
"Yeah, and I had to call a mechanic for Katt's ship." The fennec said.
"What was wrong with it?" The wolf asked.
"Apparently, it just needs a change in battery." The vulpine said. "However, I saw some other damages on it."
"Does Katt know about them?" The lupine asked.
"Why not ask her yourself?" She said. "After all, she's behind you."
Looking behind him, Sabre saw Katt sitting in the back seat. She was blushing, feeling embarrassed about what was going on with her ship. Her fur was even wet with the rain that fell on her. The pink cat gave off a smile, in spite of the bad day she was having.
"Hello there, Katt, I see that you're back in town!" Sabre greeted.
"Nice hat." Katt teased.
"Thanks, I bought it at a garage sale!" The wolf said, failing to notice the sarcasm in her voice.
Before Katt could sneer at him, she shivered. While it wasn't terribly cold outside, the rain often made her feel cold. The high for the day was 74, but the rain wasn't on any weather broadcasts. Fara noticed how her friend was shivering, which made her concerned. Sabre shared Fara's concerned look, to the point where he looked at the heater.
"Do you want us to turn the heat on, Katt?" Sabre asked.
Katt only nodded, giving her answer. She was shivering so much, she couldn't speak. With that in mind, Sabre turned on the heater. He even turned the knob to medium heat, not wanting to overwhelm Katt. Upon feeling the warm air, the pink cat felt the chills on her body evaporate. She smiled, feeling relaxed enough to speak again.
"Thanks, guys." Katt said.
"Now that you're warm again, can you tell us why you were just standing outside in the rain?" Fara asked.
"I was just getting ready to fly back to my place after spending some time at a local coffee shop, but my battery ran out of power." The pink cat said.
"Was it the coffee shop that your ship was parked at?" Sabre asked.
"Yes," the feline said, "and I was there with Miyu and Fay. I called them over to it so that we could talk."
"What were you guys talking about?" Fara asked.
"Falco."
Fara and Sabre looked at each other for a moment, then Sabre looked back at Katt.
"Is he still hung up about the shooting?" He asked.
"Fay and Miyu told me about it." Katt stated. "They even told me that Krystal was the shooter's target, being motivated by racism."
"Yeah, that's how the Pleurodelnae family is." Fara stated. "They're so prejudiced against other races in the Lylat System, they're willing to resort to criminal activity to either kill them or force them off of Corneria."
"I hope that their daughter is rotting in a prison cell!" The pink cat said.
"She is, and she won't be out of it for a very LONG time!" The fennec said.
"Anyway, how have you guys been doing?" The feline asked.
"Oh, we've been doing well!" Sabre said. "In fact, we went to a dance hall a few weeks ago!"
"And we even went to the hospital for an ultrasound!" Fara said.
Katt's eyes widened, being surprised by the news.
"Did the doctor find anything in your womb?" She asked.
"She found an embryo in it." Fara said.
"How long until you go into labor?" Katt asked.
"It will only be six months, depending if nothing happens to me while I'm pregnant." The fennec said. "Just as long as I'm careful, I'm going to be a mother!"
"Congrats, guys!" The pink cat said.
"Thanks, Katt." Sabre said. "We hope to introduce our child to you when he or she is born."
Katt blushed, giving a modest smile to her friends.
"So, how did your mission on MacBeth go?" Fara asked.
"It went better than I thought it would." Katt said. "There were no deaths, outside of a few injured people."
"We take it that you were in a shootout?" Sabre asked.
"Not quite." The pink cat said. "It was, more or less, a five-on-one fistfight."
"How did anyone get injured?" Fara asked.
"The guys I was sent after often resort to breaking bones." The feline said.
Fara only shuddered after Katt said that. Sabre even looked like he was going to be sick. However, the two pressed on, driving to their house. Once they were there, Katt was the first to get out of the car. While it was still raining outside, it had somewhat calmed down. Katt paid it no mind, wanting to head into Fara and Sabre's house for a bit.
Getting out of the car, Fara and Sabre were ready to head in the house. Seeing this, Katt approached the couple.
"Mind if I come in with you guys?" She asked.
"Sure, but take off your shoes when you come in." Fara said.
Katt complied, removing her boots once she entered the house. After that, she went over to what she assumed was the living room of the house. The pink cat was joined by Fara and Sabre, who hung their jackets up before coming in. When that was out of the way, they spoke with Katt.
"So, are you going to be okay, Katt?" Sabre asked.
"As long as I get Falco talking again, I will be." Katt said.
"Let's not forget that your ship is being worked on." Fara stated.
"Which reminds me, can I get a ride back to the Great Fox in your Arwing?" The pink cat asked.
"You want to leave now?" The fennec asked.
"Later." The feline said. "I want to hang out with you guys for a bit."
For the next hour, Katt stayed with Fara and Sabre. During her time at their house, the pink cat occasionally spoke with them, discussing current events. She even asked Sabre about Randorn, wondering how he was doing. Aside from that, the feline would even talk to Fara about their families. While Fara would talk about her family with high regard, Katt would only speak about her parents in that way. She nearly hissed with contempt upon mentioning her sister, Christina.
When Katt was ready, Fara took her out to her Arwing. The ship's black paint shined under the light of the garage, looking like it had been recently washed. Upon opening the windshield, Fara climbed into her seat. Katt climbed in behind her, taking her seat. After that, Fara flew the Arwing out of the garage, setting a course for the Great Fox.
"Are you sure about this?" The fennec asked.
"I'm sure." Katt said. "Besides, I'm sure that Falco's been talking with the others while I've been gone."
Once Fara landed her Arwing in the docking bay of the Great Fox, she opened up the cockpit, allowing Katt to get out.
"I'll be out here in case you want to head back to Corneria!" Fara said.
Katt nodded, jumping out of the cockpit. After that, she went over to the elevator, pressing the button for the floor where the main room was at. Waiting for a bit, the pink cat found herself there. The feline expected Fox to be the first to answer, seeing as he was the leader of Star Fox. However, that didn't happen. Rather, she was greeted by a different voice, one that was wise and calm.
"Hello, Katt, where have you been?"
Note: Ending the chapter on a cliffhanger there, seeing as I just wanted to get it done. After all, there are other things that I have to do. And it's kind of clear who said that, isn't it? Perhaps I shouldn't have used context clues like that. Until next time guys, this is Newcomer24, signing off. Peace!
