Chapter 21: Reunion And Reconciliation/Getting Back In Action
"He's in here." Blossom whispered, pointing to a door that had a poster of Kamen Rider Fourze on the doorway. Judy cocked her head quizzically at the poster, but ultimately decided not to press it. She would have to look it up on the internet later. The bunny hesitated and took a deep breath before opening the door.
Alex was lying on the couch watching a show, when the smell of a familiar rabbit wafted through the open doorway and hit his nostrils. Raising his head, he saw Judy in the doorway and immediately paused the TV before jumping to his feet. "Judy!? What are YOU doing here!?" Alex snarled.
At once, the composure and thoughts she had been rehearsing in her mind left her. "I… I wanted to apologize. For what I said that day." Judy meekly said. Alex crossed his arms and glared at her. "Oh gee, you want to apologize for that speech you gave!? Well too little, too late! The city is in chaos because of your baseless theorizing!" Alex hissed at her, nearly foaming at the mouth. Judy gulped, fear shooting through her body. She took a step backwards, when Blossom suddenly shut the door.
"Blossom! Open the door so she can LEAVE." Alex shouted. "No! Neither of you are leaving that room until you two either make up or make love and get this stupid dispute over with!" Blossom countered. Alex sighed. "This won't make Nick feel any better!" Alex yelled. Judy's eyes widened.
"Wait. What happened to Nick!? Did he get shot with the night howler serum?!" Judy gasped. Alex shook his head. "Serum?! You mean that the savage attacks are being caused by a serum!?" Alex inquired. Judy nodded. "Yes. I was very, very wrong. What I said was stupid, and you can hate me if you want, but right now, the city needs you. I need you, Alex. To help me solve this case." Judy begged.
Alex took that into consideration, studying her as if he was peering into her soul. "How do I know you won't hurt me again like you did before?" Alex slowly said. "I…" Judy started to say, but trailed off. "I bared my soul to you. I let you in like I hadn't let any other animal in. When you said those things, it felt like a knife was being driven into me. And I know how that feels firstpaw." Alex said, a hint of bitterness in his voice.
"Alex… back in Bunnyburrow, I had a lot of time to think. My heart ached for you and Nick. I think it's because… I have feelings for you." Judy began. Alex's ears perked up and his tail started to wag uncontrollably. The wolf's head bobbed up and down as he gestured for her to continue. "Maybe after we find out who's behind the savage animals, we can take some time to figure out what we mean to each other?" Judy offered.
Alex lunged forward and wrapped his arms around Judy, lifting her up into the air and pressing her head into his chest. "I'd like that very much…" Alex whispered happily as his tail flailed around wildly. Embarrassed, he then released Judy from his grip and set her down. "Well, first things first. I better get ready to get back in action!" Alex exclaimed.
"Do you think Nick's all right?" Judy asked as Alex got dressed in his ZPD uniform once more. The wolf grinned as he got his uniform on, looking back in the mirror. He then grabbed his phone from a nearby table and sent Bogo a text saying he was back on the job. Bogo immediately responded. "About time. I'm not going to make you come into the office and read you your responsibilities. Just get out there and do what you can to make things better." Bogo's text read.
Smiling and puffing his chest out in pride, Alex pocketed his phone before turning to Judy. "Bogo's deputized me, so let's head out there and find Nick. I think I know where to find him." Alex said. Judy nodded and they walked to the garage together. A gift box marked "For Judy" was on one of the storage shelves in the garage. Both were equally mystified about it.
"I know you'll come around eventually, my son. I took the liberty of purchasing this for your rabbit friend in case you ever want to ride with her." A tag attached to the ribbon read. The rabbit had a bit of trouble unwrapping the gift, so Alex used his claws to help her open it up. It turns out that the gift was a motorcycle helmet made specifically for rabbits around Judy's age and size.
"How'd she get my proportions?" Judy wondered as she ran her paws across the helmet. Alex chuckled. "Every officer at the ZPD has a file on themselves. Lists all their arrests they've made, the cases that they've solved, their psychological profile, any misconducts they might have made- and also their biological and medical info such as blood type and height, in case of emergencies." Alex explained.
Deciding to ask more questions later, Judy put the helmet on and looked at Alex. Amused, Alex chortled at her ears poking out of the ear slits on the helmet. "That helmet looks pretty hilarious on you, if you ask me." Alex snickered. "Oh yeah? I'd like to see you look good in a helmet!" Judy argued. "If you insist!" The wolf smirked before donning his own helmet.
Judy couldn't help but stifle a laugh, and Alex let out a hearty guffaw. "We both look good in helmets… and a little silly too." He declared before opening the garage door. Once the doorway was completely open, the wolf sat down on the motorcycle seat. There was still a considerable amount of room on the motorcycle seat, enough for Judy and another animal to sit down. The bunny took her seat behind Alex.
"All right, wrap your arms tightly around me, and whatever you do, don't let go." Alex instructed. "Got it!" Judy affirmed, hugging Alex tightly. He started the ignition and the motorcycle flared to life, before they zoomed off into the city streets.
