(Chapter 1)
Jasper, Nevada. The 'Entertainment Capital of the world' as it has been listed on cheaply published brochures. Despite its bland appearance and otherwise dull serenity, this town would soon experience things that would impact not just Earth but all of Cybertron. Leave it up to three wizards finding themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Jacqueline Darby was returning home after her final year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Despite her status as a muggle-born, she was a talented student at Hogwarts. The 'Jack of All Trades' as her father always boasted. She was seven when she learned about being a witch, like most wizards, and she ended up making her mother's lawn gnome come to life. While most wizards in the United States go to Ilvermorny, when Jacqueline heard about Hogwarts, she begged her mother and father to let her go.
June, being the protective mother that she was, refused. But after a long talk with her husband, she allowed her daughter to attend Hogwarts while she stayed in Jasper. When Jacqueline came home after her first year, she learned of a horrible accident that took her father's life. While most would expect June to keep her daughter in Jasper, she understood that getting her away was for the best.
Though June would make sure to visit her daughter at Hogwarts at every available opportunity throughout the years. And one year, Dumbledore allowed her to stay during Christmas. After that, her visits became less frequent as to not cling to Jacqueline. As protective and fearful as June was to lose her daughter, in any way, she didn't want to coddle her like some parents. She needs to face the world on her own and learn from her mistakes. Besides, as a witch, the wizarding world had enough problems of their own.
(Present Day, Jasper Nevada)
Jacqueline sighed as she walked in the front door, "Mom? I'm home!" She set her trunk on the ground. Nostalgia flooded her stomach as she looked at the pictures on the wall. Before she could move, a pair of arms wrapped around her midsection.
"Jacqueline Darby, why didn't you tell me you were coming!? Are you trying to give your mother a heart attack?" June Darby pulled away and crossed her arms. Despite her glare, Jacqueline knew her mother well enough.
Shrugging her shoulders, she acted like nothing was wrong, "What? I just wanted to surprise you. I mean, I've been away for almost four years."
June muttered a bit, "I guess your heart was in the right place. But that doesn't excuse you, young lady. Just because you graduated from Hogwarts doesn't mean you can't tell your mother when you're coming home."
Jacqueline reddened in embarrassment, "Sorry, Mom." Soon that embarrassment faded away and was replaced with joy, "I can't believe I'm back. I've missed this place so much!" If anyone who lived in Jasper heard her, she'd probably end up in a psych ward. While most residents considered Jasper boring, to Jacqueline, it meant everything. It is the place she was raised.
June smirked before giving her daughter a tender hug. "Since you're allowed to do magic now… would you mind helping Mommy with the dishes?" She hesitated to admit it, but she'd become spoiled by magic. There were even a few gifts Jacqueline had sent her over the years. Her favorite gift was a small glass ball called a remembrall. It saved her skin more than she could count.
"You're okay with me doing magic?" She expected her mother to be a tyrant about it. Perhaps even forbid her from using it. Then again, she'd always been her biggest supporter.
"Of course. You're a woman now. You can make your own choices. I know whatever you choose to do, I'll always support you. If you were still a little girl, I might tell you, no, but what mother would I be if I forbid you from using your powers."
Jacqueline smiled, "Thanks."
"But I still expect you home by 10." June smirked.
The smile on Jacqueline's face vanished as she rolled her eyes, "Ya… thanks, Mom."
Deciding to go out tonight, Jacqueline went to her room. Looking in the mirror, she took in her complexion. Her hair was black, like her mother's, and fell just past her shoulders. Her blue eyes shined just like her father's. Looking below, she truly started to take in how much her body has changed over the years. Before, she used to be a scrawny little girl, but now she had curves that models would kill to have. It even made her own mother a little jealous. Taking a deep breath, Jacqueline allowed the magic that filled the air to flood into her body. While Jasper seemed like a dead town, it was situated on a natural well of magic. So much that she was surprised the town wasn't overrun with wizards trying to tap into its power.
Looking towards her trunk, Jacqueline opened it up. It was littered with books spanning different subjects, potions, ancient runes, even magical creatures. While she wished she was a witch who was talented in every field, she had a general understanding of each subject. The only subjects she excelled in were charms and potions. 'I still don't know what I want to do for a living. Curse breaking? Open a potions shop? Ugh! Why is this so hard to choose?'
She needed Dumbledore here. He was a wise wizard. He'd be able to help her with this conundrum. While she was excited to be home, being so far from Hogwarts felt eerie. Like she was leaving a piece of herself in those enchanting halls. Or was it because she didn't want to come back because she knew her father wasn't here?
Jacqueline shook her head, "Ugh, get yourself together. I'll know what I want to do later. For now, I should just be happy I'm back." Standing up, she walked over to the table and picked up her wand. It was made of Elm, a type of wood thought only able to be possessed by pure-bloods. If it weren't for her wand's wood, she would have been looked down on by most pure-bloods. Instead, a few rumors went around Hogwarts that her father was a wizard, and she didn't stop them. As for the core of her wand, it contained unicorn hair. Surprisingly, there have been fewer and fewer wizards who had a wand with unicorn hair.
Putting her wand away, she got out of her clothes and changed into something casual without using magic. Jacqueline found it lazy for wizards to do every little thing with magic. Some wizards couldn't even tie their shoes without using a spell.
(Later)
June smiled as she took a bite from her pasta. They'd decided to go out for Italian food. "I'm sorry if the food isn't as great as your schools, but you know Jasper. Not really the entertainment capital of the world." June had a decent laugh when she saw the billboard the town posted a few months ago.
Taking a bite of her food, Jacqueline smiled nonetheless. "It's fine. I'm just happy to be back." As the two talked, Jacqueline noticed two muscle cars driving by. They were purple and black. The windows were also tinted, so you couldn't see inside, "A muscle car in Jasper? Did the apocalypse happen while I was away?"
June watched the cars turn the corner, "No, I think they're probably from the next town over wanting to do those drag races you kids love so much."
Smirking, Jacqueline rolled her eyes, "Drag racing? Mom, you know I'd rather play quidditch, right?" Flying on her broom always made her feel free. Just being allowed to soar through the air without limit.
"Mhm. You know me and your father met at a drag race."
Jacqueline choked on her food, "I~i'm sorry, what? You went to a drag race? YOU!? Okay, now I'm certain the apocalypse has happened."
"Haha. What can I say? I was a teenager once, and to get back at my parents, I decided to sneak out."
Jacqueline squinted in confusion, "I'm sorry, but what have you done with my mother?" Why is she learning this now?
"Anyways, I ended up bumping into your father, and one thing led to another, and eventually, we started dating." June scratched the back of her head in embarrassment.
Jacqueline's jaw had fallen, "You went to a drag race?" She asked again, "I'm sorry, Mom, but I don't take you as the rebellious girl."
June shrugged, "I just wanted to irritate my parents because they said I couldn't go out." Leaning forward, she brushed her daughter's hair to the side, "I'm so glad you never turned out like me."
"Hey! I'll have you know. I hope I turn out like you. You were the best Mom growing up. I will admit you're a little overbearing at times, but I know it's because you love me." Talking for a few minutes, June finally decided to bring up a personal question.
"So… do you have a boyfriend I should know about?"
"Uhhh… no. Why?" Her cheeks were pink. 'Please, God, don't let us have this conversation.'
"Just making sure my little girl is taken care of. What? Can you blame me? You're a beautiful woman, and I don't want any boys trying to take advantage of you."
"I'm not seeing anyone. Besides, I'm not really interested in anyone right now." Something happened at Hogwarts that she was not ready to share with her mother.
June nodded, "You know that boy you grew up with Vince? He seems like a~"
A hand slapped itself over her mouth. Jacqueline shook her head, "No. Absolutely not. I'm not going out with him. Don't you remember how rude he was when I was growing up?" Even though he was two years younger, he always made her feel horrible about herself. If she remembers correctly, he is a senior now. "I'd rather just wait for 'Mister Perfect' instead of trying to seek him out."
"Oh? And who is mister perfect?" Her mother loved teasing her like this.
Jacqueline slammed her face to the table, "Can we please not talk about this?"
"Alright, alright. But I want details later." June looked at her watch, "It's getting late. We should probably get home, sweetie."
"Ya, do you want to apparate? Or walk?" Jacqueline smiled at her mother's reaction.
"Sweetie, I love you, but I'm not sure if I can keep teleporting your way. I'm still sick from the last time." June said.
"Mom, the only way you're going to get used to it is if we keep doing it." The two got up and walked along the sidewalk, attempting to find an empty alleyway.
June glanced at her daughter, "You know, I found out there are two other wizards here in Jasper; maybe you'd like to meet them? Now before you say no, I'd like to tell you that one is your age and the other is 12."
Jacqueline gasped and turned to her mother, "Why didn't you say that sooner!? I love playing with kids. Please tell me he has cheeks I can pinch. Have they learned the dangers of charms yet? Why didn't you tell me!?" While most didn't know it, she had a soft spot for children. And that was especially true for young wizards. One of her favorite past times at school was tutoring the first years. Dumbledore was certain she'd settle in becoming a teacher. Or at the very least a librarian since she spent so much time in the library.
"Calm down. He lives down the street, and you'd better behave. And the other is a very nice girl named Miko."
"Alright, fine, but if he has a cute face, I'm pinching his cheeks." Jacqueline gave a cute huff and turned her head. Reaching an empty alley, she offered her arm. June grimaced before grabbing her arm. "It's gonna be fine, Mom." June took a deep breath. As expected, they were spinning rapidly through a void of darkness and distorted light. They landed in the living room, and June was forced to stabilize herself on the couch.
"I need a minute." Her stomach was churning. Maybe Italian food wasn't the best option. Once her stomach settled, June sat next to her daughter. "Before I forget, I got a letter earlier."
Jacqueline tilted her head, "And?"
"Since there's no wizard government, or… whatever you call it here in Jasper, MACUSA is assigning the town a representative."
"They have? Why? I mean, three wizards doesn't seem like a big enough reason to send someone as an advocate."
"I think it has to do with the boy who lives down the street. From what his parents say, he's doing homeschool this year instead of going to Ilvermorny."
"Really?" 'Well… how bad can it be?' Jacqueline lamented; meeting new people made her nervous at times.
(Undisclosed Military Base)
"No! I already have enough on my plate with those damn Cybertronians. Now you want me to look after three wizards?" Agent Fowler was sitting in his Commander's office. He was one of the few higher-ranking officers who knew about wizardkind, mainly because his sister is a witch. As for his commanding officer, since she was such a high-ranking muggle, she was given constant updates by the Magical Congress.
Commander Carrow sighed. She understood Fowler's agitation, "Now, William, I respect you for being a liaison for the Autobots, but frankly, I need you to keep an eye on these three wizards. I don't care how advanced these Cybertronians are; never before have our ties with the Magical congress been this strong."
Fowler huffed, "Now why do I need to look after them? One is 19, the other 18, surely they can look after that Raf kid."
"Jasper, Nevada is settled on what wizards call a natural spring of Magic. Apparently, its long-term effects on wizards have been known to… leave lasting problems."
He raised a brow, "What do you mean, lasting problems?"
"My understanding of Magic is little, but apparently, these three are of the fewest wizards who can live in such a highly condensed area of magic."
Slowly, Fowler growled, "So, they're ginny pigs?"
"Well, I wouldn't call it that."
"And what's happened to wizards who overstay their time here in Jasper? Huh?"
Commander Carrow tapped her fingers on the desk, "According to my files, they've had to seek medical treatment. Their bodies couldn't take in such a raw amount of magic." She flipped open the folder and showed Fowler a picture of the three wizards he'd check on, "But these three have an unusual connection to magic that they aren't entirely aware of." She slid Jacqueline's picture forward, "At her old school, Jacqueline apparently drew in more magic than what her professors thought possible. This might be because she was born and raised here in Jasper."
"And let me guess, they want to see what will happen while she's living in Jasper, correct?" The Commander nodded her head. Fowler looked at the other two, "And what about them?"
"Miko Nakadai, a pure-blood witch from Japan. She's moved here for reasons of her own, but since she's another witch, they want you to keep an eye on her as well." Fowler looked over the picture of Miko. She looked like a respectful young lady. Her hair was kept in a tight knot, and she wore a tight but elegant black dress in the photo. Behind her were her mother and father, both holding a serious expression. The Commander then slid Raf's picture, "And lastly, Rafael Esquivel, a second-year student from Ilvermorny. He is very tech-savvy, as his professors say. They've given him permission to spend this coming year at home, and they want someone to check in on occasion. Hence, why I need you for this mission."
"Why don't they just send a wizard down here? Do their little hocus pocus and teleport faster than I can fly."
"MACUSA is trusting the pentagon to keep an eye on these three. Consider it a… diplomatic cooperation in the making. Hopefully, M.E.C.H can keep their noses out of our business while we work through this agreement." What most didn't know, M.E.C.H stood for Magical Extermination Controlling Humanity. Not the most handsome title, but they were a group of elitist wizard-hunters, utilizing technology to bring world order by eradicating magic.
Agent Fowler sighed before nodding, "Alright, I'll look over them. But what about the Autobots?"
"Those warmongering aliens? You tell them to settle this little spat with the Decepticons. I am one letter away from informing MACUSA and the Wizengamot. Either they put an end to their war, or I'll show them how capable we humans actually are." Commander Carrow didn't care much for the cybertronians because of their pointless conflict. Nor did she care they were from a distant planet. But she also didn't like how they, mainly Ratchet, looked down on them for their lack of technology. While they may not be technologically advanced, humans knew more about magic than they ever could. Granted, most humans don't even know about magic to begin with. But she still stands by her belief.
Fowler took the papers off the desk and sighed, "I'll make sure it's done. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to give my weekly check-up on the Autobots." Frankly, he'd grown tired of their little war as well.
(Autobot Base)
"BULKHEAD, I NEEDED THAT!" Ratchet shouted as Bulkhead bumped into the table and knocked over his equipment. The wrecker brushed himself off and held up his arms.
"Sorry, Doc, just showing Bee how a wrecker plays lobbi~"
"I don't care what you're doing! You're making a mess!" The medic growled out. He clenched his fists, the wiring underneath his skin wanting to burst out. Cybertornians, half robot, half organic, Or technorganic as some would consider them. While they 'looked' human from a distance, it was apparent they looked different from the average human. Their eyes glowed, and beneath their skin were wires and metal. And flowing through their bodies was energon, the life fuel of Cybertron. It was their fuel, food, energy, even medicine. And beating in their chest were their sparks. All sparks came from the well of allsparks. Unlike humans, they weren't born from a womb; instead, their bodies were grown and constructed until their sparks were ready to inhabit them.
On Cybertron, it was considered the most tremendous honor, far greater than the title of Prime, to give life. While rare, a cybertronian could be 'birthed' like humans. The last sparkling to be 'born' was long before the great war. The well of allsparks was dormant, and since few femmes existed, the possibility of continuing the Cybertronian race seemed impossible. Then came their discovery of humans. Ratchet, especially Optimus, found it jaw-dropping to know that sparklings on this planet were born from the womb of females. While none of them would admit it aloud, they were slightly jealous of these humans. The ability to create life from your own frame was the greatest honor on Cybertron, even amongst Decepticons.
The sound of an engine caught the Autobot's ears. Arcee drove through the tunnel and removed his helmet. "That energon mine was a bust. The cons got to it first." Getting off his bike, it revved before parking itself. Using energy from their sparks, they can tether their lifeforce into their vehicles. However, the actual act of splitting their spark was impossible.
Ratchet groaned as Arcee walked over. Now he had to deal with another voice. 'Why must my lab be out here?' The only thing that could make it worse would be~
"Sup, Doc, Did ya miss me?" Cliffjumper appeared from the hallway, likely just finished waxing his car. Unlike on Cybertron, Earth had a climate, and the maintenance they performed on other vehicles was ridiculous. The hardest thing for them to get accustomed to was the weather. One day it could be hot, then that night, freezing cold, Earth was strange.
"My name's not Doc." Ratchet growled out. For the next few minutes, Arcee and Cliffjumper watched Bulkhead teach Bumblebee about lobbing. For a beginner, the scout was good. But the wrecker was far better.
When Bulkhead threw the heavy metal ball, far larger than anything a human could carry, Bumblebee tried to catch it. However, it ended up hitting him directly in the chest, causing Arcee and Cliffjumper to wince. The commotion had caught the audio receptor of a specific mech. Optimus walked into the room. His face was devoid of emotion. "Ratchet, Arcee, do we have an update on the energon vein?"
Arcee grunted, "Fragging cons got to it first. The entire mine was stripped." Optimus stood in front of him and gave a silent nod.
"It is not your fault, Arcee." Prime's words did little to encourage the mech. From an outside perspective, Optimus was easily the tallest person in the room, standing at 6'4". Currently, he was without his armor, so it was easy to see how much muscle he had underneath. Optimus's physique was that of a bouncer, he had just enough muscle to show his strength, but he wasn't a bodybuild either. His hair was dark blue with a single white streak running through it. As for facial hair, it was also blue, running along his lower jaw before arching over his chin.
Arcee grunted again, "Optimus, we're running low on energon. We'll be lucky if we last another quartex."
"I understand your concerns, but that also means we have a quartex to find more. There are plenty of veins the Decepticons haven't claimed." While Optimus tried to sound optimistic, he was just as worried as Arcee, but he couldn't look weak as their leader. Walking towards Ratchet, he gave a slight nod, "Ratchet, have we located any new energon veins?"
The medic shook his head, "This blasted Earth-tech is slow in locating new veins."
"Then I will leave you to it." Optimus turned and looked over the monitors. He'd been on Earth for over three years, and he knew so little about the planet he was taking refuge on. While the archivist inside him would love to learn more about these humans, his time was already worn thin. From his minimal knowledge, humans were quite a resourceful race, in his opinion. On Cybertron, energon was used for various reasons with almost zero lasting effects. But on Earth, humans had to worry about far more. From acid rain, climate, and most strangely, nature. It wasn't a surprise, in his opinion, why humans weren't as advanced as them. Nature destroyed faster than they could build. To see such a luscious planet was mind-boggling; however, he was more surprised how vital it was to humans. Apparently, they needed plants to produce oxygen and grow their own food.
They could consume human food and convert it to energon, but they weren't adamant about the taste of this so-called… fruit cake. It was the first and last time the Autobots tried human food. After that, they decided to adhere to their energon cubes. They were too afraid to try other forms of human nutrition. Their tounges had gone through enough pain.
Typing away at the computer, Optimus read through some old Cybertronian history logs, but before he could finish, the computer shut down. Off to the side, a few sparks jumped out of a console. This was the third time this week the console has broken. While human technology wasn't the greatest, it shouldn't be breaking like this, primarily since Ratchet oversaw the repairs. "Hmmm?"
Before he could walk over, green lights started to flash above them, signaling the arrival of a specific human. "Prime!" Agent Fowler shouted while stepped out of the elevator. "Five wrecks, a destroyed parking lot, and a certain red truck of unknown make found driving itself."
"Agent Fowler." Optimus silently grimaced in his mind. He'd summoned his truck while he was in battle.
"For one week, I'd appreciate it if you and your team stuck to your motto robots in disguise."
Bulkhead shook his head, "Calm down there, Fowler. We had everything under control."
"Clearly." The sarcasm wasn't lost on them, "What excuse do you have now?"
Optimus walked up the steps and looked down at the human. Agent Fowler barely reached his neck, "Agent Fowler, while we understand your anger. We cannot keep the Decepticons at bay without force."
"Then perhaps you put an end to this little fight of yours before I do."
Ratchet scoffed, "You think you can stop a war that's been happening since before you were born?"
Fowler sent Ratchet a haunting glare, "Me? No. However, I send one letter to my superior, and we have the green to send you all into the slammer. And you," he pointed to Ratchet, "I know you don't think we're much of a match against the Decepticons, but you don't know a damn thing about our planet or species." He turned back to Optimus, "Take care of this before I do." Turning around, he marched off towards the elevator. Right before he got it, a small photo slipped out of the folder he was holding.
Fowler was still frowning as the elevators closed. "Three years on this planet, and these bots still don't know a damn thing. We should just let the dementors take care of these cons." But even he found the slightest sympathy for them. The dementor's kiss was a fate worse than death. Agent Fowler gave a little laugh, "I'd pay big bucks to see their reactions to magic."
Meanwhile, back in the base, Bulkhead leaned against the railing, "Big burden… for a human."
Optimus shook his head, "Agent Fowler is concerned for his race, as he should be."
"C'mon, Prime, do you honestly think humans stand a chance against the Decepticons? We're their best hope." Optimus didn't say anything. Bulkhead stretched his back and yawned, "Welp, I'm taking a shower then going into recharge. Let's hope the cons don't attack; otherwise, they're gonna regret it." He hated being woken during his recharging period.
Optimus watched as his fellow Autobots went down the hall. Bringing his hand to his face, he let loose a sigh of exhaustion. This war was taking its toll on him. Before he left, a small object caught his optic. Turning towards the elevator, he noticed a picture, as the humans called it. Walking over, he picked up the photo and turned it over. Prime's optics widened when he saw the beautiful femme in the photo. She had long black hair, dark blue eyes, and a calming smile. Optimus looked over the picture and raised a brow, 'Perhaps a friend of Agent Fowler?'
"Optimus, are you alright?" Ratchet was walking towards him.
Without thinking, Optimus tucked the photo into his pocket and nodded, "I'm fine, old friend, just lost in thought."
"Thinking about Cybertron again?"
The Prime nodded. A part of him felt embarrassed, something he hasn't felt in eons. He was shocked to see such an attractive femme. As bizarre as it was, there was something about seeing the femme in the photo smile. It calmed his sensors. "I will see you in the morning, Ratchet."
The medic nodded, wished Prime a nice stasis. Once he returned to his chambers, he sat down and pulled out the photo he found. Looking over the complexion of the human femme, he couldn't help but wonder what she looked like from a different angle. Shaking his helm, he put the photo into his desk. He didn't have time to admire a pretty human femme he'd never meet. Though a question kept popping into his mind, why did Agent Fowler have a picture of this femme?
(Next Day, Jasper)
Jacqueline sighed as she sat down on a bench. She was right out front of the only high school in all of Jasper, waiting to meet these other two wizards. She was pulled out of her thoughts when someone tapped her shoulder.
"Uh~excuse me? Are you Jacqueline?" The boy looked to be 12 and wore a pair of red glasses.
"I am. Are you Rafael?" Jacqueline couldn't help but smile at how cute the kid looked. 'Don't pinch his cheeks, Jacqueline. Don't do it!'
"Ya, but you can just call me Raf." He sat down next to her. "So, how long have you been in Jasper?"
"I was actually born here but went to Hogwarts when I was seven. I just came back yesterday."
Raf blinked, "You went to Hogwarts? Why not Ilvermorny? It's closer, isn't it?"
"It is, but I… I'll probably sound stupid when I say this. When I learned that Merlin went to Hogwarts, I told my parents I wanted to go there. I know it sounds stupid, but what can I say."
Raf practically bounced on the bench, "Can you tell me about Hogwarts? I rarely get to hear about another wizarding school." Before Jacqueline could speak, a girl stopped in front of them. She had short hair with pink highlights at the ends.
"What's up! I'm Miko!" She jumped between Raf and Jacqueline and pulled out her phone. "Say cheese!" Raf and Jacqueline blinked when the camera flash blinded them. "Sweet! I can't believe I'm not the only wizard in this boring town." She turned and looked at the two, "We totally need to hang out! Do you guys play quidditch? I've always wanted to play, but my parents were always such sticks in the mud."
Jacqueline blinked. Miko was clearly not your average witch, "Uh~I play it sometimes. Wait, who are you?"
"Miko. Man, this is great! Hey, there is a concert happening later this week. Do you guys wanna join me?" Miko was definitely not your average witch. Coming from a pureblood family, she wanted nothing more than to escape that boring life. Muggles were always fascinating to her, the music, bright colors, everything she never had growing up.
"I'm not sure Raf is old enough to attend a concert." Jacqueline was not expecting this.
"Aw! Where is your spirit?"
Raf pushed up his glasses, "I~don't think my mom would want me going to a concert. She wants me home before the streetlights turn on."
The three sat there trying to know more about each other, but mainly Miko tried to get Jacqueline and Raf to do something. Before long, a man in a gray suit approached them. "I see you three have already met each other."
Jacqueline looked up, "And you are?"
He showed his badge, "Special Agent William Fowler. I've been assigned to oversee your well-being while here in Jasper."
"Well being?" The three looked at each other.
"It's nothing bad. Now, if you follow me, it's not safe to talk in such a public place." Leading them to a black car, they got in. Jacqueline had to stop Miko from fiddling with the window. For the next few minutes, Fowler explained his reason for checking in on them. He was supposed to act as an advocate for MACUSA and make sure Raf was keeping up on his school work. As for Miko and Jacqueline, he'd relay anything they needed to the magical congress.
During their talk, Raf raised his hand, "Will I get my wand back since I'm staying home this semester?" In America, Ilvermorny holds onto your wand.
"Sorry, kid, but it looks like they won't allow you to have your wand."
Jacqueline quickly interjected, "No wand? How is he supposed to learn magic? He's not old enough to learn wandless magic." Miko was silent but nodded a little.
"Look, I don't make the rules. But you'll have to go without it for a while."
Jacqueline noticed the disheartened look on his face, "Don't worry, Raf, I'll see if I can ask for your wand. At the very least, I'll let you practice with mine." Though she hoped it didn't come to that. Her wand was very loyal and did not appreciate other wizards using it.
Miko chuckled a bit, "Uh~hello? Have you forgotten the trace? One light charm from him, and he'll be in monstrous trouble."
"I have a hinkypunk… I found him in the black forest." They were one-legged creatures composed of smoke. Their presence caused a disruption in tracking charms.
"You have a hinkypunk!?" Miko practically shouted, "No way. Don't they hate like… everyone?" They were known to lure travelers into bogs because of their lanterns.
Jacqueline nodded, "Yes. Its lantern was smashed, and I fixed it. The next thing I knew, it was following me. And I've had him ever since. You know they're not as bad as everyone says they are. I mean… sure, they'll throw a fireball at your face, but that's only if you provoke it."
Fowler just looked between the three, "I'll just act like I didn't hear that. Anyways, I'll be checking every now and then."
When they got out of the car, Jacqueline looked uncertain. This seemed suspicious. Why would MACUSA assign someone to check in on them? Also, why a muggle? However, she wasn't able to dwell on it, thanks to Miko. The girl wouldn't stop talking about things they could do together, though Jacqueline wasn't really against it. It's not like they had much to do in Jasper anyways.
