Route 7
It was another beautiful early morning in the world of Pokemon. The sun was beginning to rise, Pokemon stirred in the background, and A trainer and his Pokemon were nearing the end of another morning run. Ash took stock of the situation, looking over his Pokemon, while continuing his pace. They were all doing well, besides Eevee who had opted to lay on Ash's shoulder halfway though. In her defense, she was still only around a week old. That was not what surprised the boy though. What surprised Ash was the Pokemon that was running by his side, having no trouble keeping up whatsoever. It was the very same Pokemon he had obtained at the Dojo a few days back...
Saffron City Pokemon Center (3 days Ago)
Rushing into the Pokemon Center, Ash made a bee line for the Video Phone. One phone number input later, and Professor Oak's amused face appeared on screen.
"Twice in one day Ash?" joked the professor.
"Sorry about that Professor Oak, but I just got a cool new Pokemon and I don't even know what it is! So, I wanted to find out as soon as possible!" quickly said the excited boy.
"I did see a new Pokemon registered to you come in, but I find myself curious as to how you could have possibly caught one of these in Saffron City of all places," replied Oak.
"That's easy. I won it by defeating some trainers at the Fighting Dojo. What kind of Pokemon is it?" eagerly asked Ash.
Professor Oak nodded at the response. "Yes, I suppose that would make sense. As to your question, it is a Fighting-Type Pokemon, but one that is not native to Kanto."
"Really? Where is it from?" asked Ash with curiosity.
"This Pokemon is native to the Johto region, and like Eevee, it his multiple possibilities when it comes to evolution," explained the Professor.
Ash was starting to get annoyed at this point. "Just tell me Professor Oak!"
"I suppose I could give you some information," chuckled the professor. "The Pokemon's name is Tyrogue and it is a male. That should be enough for you to do some of your own research. I assume you would like it transferred over now?"
"Thanks Professor and you assume correctly! I'm going to send Krabby your way," a relieved Ash replied.
After the exchange and the professor hung up, Ash called out his new Pokemon at once. Out popped a short humanoid looking Pokemon. It was purple for the most part, though the pelvis area was brown along with his feet. Tyrogue also had bandages wrapped around his wrists and midsection.
From here, Ash had introduced his team to the new Pokemon, explaining his dream and goals to the Fighting Pokemon as well. Tyrogue took it all in stride, getting along with his new teammates. The Pokemon also had a strong look of desire on its face when Ash talked about getting stronger.
As Professor Oak suggested, Ash did some research on the web and found out that Tyrogue could evolve into Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, or a Johto Pokemon called Hitmontop. Dexter also let him know what moves his new Pokemon could use, even if it didn't recognize the foreign species. All in All, Ash was very happy with the new acquisition.
Route 7 (Present)
Tyrogue kept pace next to Ash, completely focused on the run, not noticing his trainer glancing in his direction. If the Pokemon kept this kind of work ethic up, Ash was positive Tyrogue would quickly become one of his strongest team members. Soon enough, the running squad arrived back at camp to the wonderful smell of Brock's cooking.
After breakfast, Ash gathered all his Pokemon into one area to go into their battle strategy for the Celadon Gym, and their next training regime.
"Ok guys, we are halfway there to our goal. Up next is the Celadon City Gym. The Gym Leader there specializes in Grass-Type Pokemon, who can hold a dual-poison typing. From what I've read, the battles are 3 on 3. This brings us to who is going to battle," Ash said, staring intently at his Pokemon. They all looked back expectantly, hoping they would be called on.
"Given the type advantage they hold over Grass Pokemon, Charmeleon and Pidgeotto are obvious choices. For my third Pokemon though, i'm going to go with Ivysuar. As a Grass-Type Pokemon himself, he holds a strong resistance to those attacks. His dual poison typing will also neutralize any potential super-effective poison moves," explained Ash.
The three chosen Pokemon looked ecstatic. Pikachu and Clefairy, the veterans they were, accepted the decision, agreeing with the logic. Tyrogue was miffed and crossed his arms, while Eevee pouted at her trainer.
They'll learn, Ash chuckled internally, looking at his two newest Pokemon. "As always, just because these guys will be doing the battling, doesn't mean I am going to let the rest of you out of training. Clefairy, I want you and Tyrogue to do some sparring. See if you can use the energy from that powerful Double Slap to start learning Meteor Mash. The principle behind the attack is the same, but it involves storing energy in your fists first, and then releasing it all at once. The residual energy left behind may increase your attack power afterwords. As for you Tyrogue, I want you to keep practicing Mach Punch and Vacuum Wave. We'll see about moving you onto Endure and Counter once you have those two down," finished Ash.
The two pink and purple Pokemon nodded and headed off to get to work.
Ash turned his attention to the next duo. "Pikachu, you're going to be in charge of getting Eevee some experience. Show her your Quick Attack and Iron Tail moves, and help her learn to use them herself. For Iron Tail, you can have her do the same exercises we did together back in Pewter City," Ash said, handing over the equipment to his mouse Pokemon. "Once you get her started on those moves, try focusing more power into your Thundershock. I think you are ready to turn it into a full on Thunderbolt."
"Pika!" the yellow Pokemon exclaimed, before trying to drag a reluctant Eevee off.
"Vee?" cried the cute little Pokemon, not wanting to leave her trainer's side. Ash sighed and got down on one knee, speaking gently to his little princess, which he had begun to call her, much to everyone's amusement. "Eevee, you want to get stronger right?" questioned Ash.
"Vee! Vee!" yipped the Pokemon in agreement, nuzzling her trainer's hand.
Ash smiled. "Then I need you to go with Pikachu and learn from him. You already know two great moves, so why not add another two? Don't worry, I promise I will be close by."
Reassured, Eevee went off with Pikachu for some training.
"And then there were three," joked Ash, turning to his chosen Pokemon for the upcoming battle.
"Charmeleon and Pidgeotto, I think you guys are fine for the most part, but I do have a move each of you could learn that may be useful. Charmeleon, try focusing fire into your hands and then punching. With enough practice, you should be able to learn Fire Punch, which can come in handy up close, or against opponents with a low physical defense. Ready to get some work in?" questioned Ash with a grin.
"Chameleon!" smirked back the fire type, punching his fists together, and then walking off to work.
"Pidgeotto, I want you to work on learning a move called Aerial Ace. The attack involves three critical steps, but if mastered, it is one that will typically land without fail. I've done some preparation for this as well," said Ash, pulling out a bar and a small target. Ash then propped the bar in the air, held up by two metal rods stuck into the ground. The target was placed hanging on a sturdy tree branch a good 20 feet behind the bar. "The first thing you have to master is descending from a high altitude to the ground at a high speed, before pulling up at the last minute. I'll be honest with you, you're probably going to crash into the ground a few times until you get it," deadpanned Ash.
Pidgeotto rolled his eyes at the "confidence" his trainer had in him.
"That said, i'm sure you will get there eventually. Next, you need to straighten up, while staying low enough to fly beneath that bar there," Ash said, pointing to the bar. "I've raised it to a decent height for now, but as you get better, we will have to lower it. Staying low to the ground is key, otherwise you may miss your target altogether. Speaking of the target, that brings us to step three. Once you pass under the bar, use your increased speed to fly straight at the target, momentarily disappearing from the eyesight, before reappearing and striking the target head on. I know that was a ton of information, and it is going to take a lot of work, but learning Aerial Ace is really going to up you to the next level," encouraged Ash.
Pidgeotto gave a loud squawk, and took off into the air, ready to begin practicing.
"As for you Ivysaur, I picked up this Technical Machine in Saffron City, using some of that money we won back at AJ's tournament. This is going to wreak havoc on the Gym Leader's Grass Type Pokemon," smirked Ash with a gleam in his eye.
Celadon City Outskirts (1 Week Later)
Ash worked his team, and himself, hard over the next week. The morning endurance runs continued and the focused training repeated every single day. It was a struggle, but the results certainly spoke for themselves. Clefairy mastered Meteor Mash with ease, though Ash wasn't too surprised considering the strength she showed back at the Fighting Dojo. Tyrogue was also getting the hang of Mach Punch and Vacuum Wave.
Meanwhile, Pikachu's Thunderbolt was coming along nicely, and he managed to teach Eevee Quick Attack and Iron Tail! Speaking of Eevee, she even made it through an entire run yesterday!
As for the Pokemon Ash wanted to use in his Gym Battle, they were ready. Nothing else needed to be said.
Today, the gang was on the outskirts of Celadon City. Brock indicated they should arrive by the late afternoon if they kept up a brisk walk, which suited the group fine. The group continued on, happy to be in Celadon soon, uninterrupted. As they neared the city, they came across a green-haired youth in a red jumpsuit.
"Hey!" called out the green-haired teenager. "Any of you trainers up for a battle?"
"Heck yes!" yelled Ash, never one to turn down a battle.
"We're so close to the city and actual beds! Do we really need to stop?" pouted Misty.
Brock had no opinion either way. He was too engrossed with Cubone, who still had some attachment issues, to care.
Ash looked back and give the girl a quick wink. "No worries Misty, i'll make this quick."
The green-haired boy scowled at this, overhearing Ash's comment. "I wouldn't be so cocky kid. I just won my third badge from Celadon City with my partner," bragged the boy.
Ash smirked, but didn't bother to brag about his own badges. "Let's let our Pokemon do the talking."
"Fair enough. By the way, the name's Ace Trainer Austin. What's yours? I ask because I like to know the name of the people I beat," jibed the boy.
"Ash Red Ketchum. Send out your Pokemon Austin," replied Ash.
"Fine. Growlithe, I choose you!" Austin said, sending out a Pokemon Ash hadn't seen since Cerulean City.
Ash reached for a Pokeball, but stopped when a certain little Pokemon called for his attention.
"Vee! Vee!" Eevee yipped, looking at Growlithe with ferocity from Ash's shoulder.
"Do you want to battle Eevee?" Ash asked with a little shock. He was going to send out Tyrogue for some experience, thinking Eevee too young, but maybe not.
"Vee!" repeated the little cutie, jumping off of Ash's should and stepping onto the field of battle.
"You got it Eevee! Let's make your first battle one to remember!" yelled the boy with excitement.
The other boy laughed at that last comment. "First battle? I don't care what color that Eevee is, this is going to be a joke."
Ash decided to take advantage of the other boy's idiocy and attacked while he was distracted. "Quick Attack Eevee!" Before the other boy or his Growlithe could react, Eevee slammed into the dog Pokemon with surprising force, sending it tumbling back.
The sobered up the other boy at once. "Ember Growlithe!" The Fire Pokemon got back up and obliged, shooting a low-powered flame at Eevee.
Ash smirked, opting to call for what was quickly becoming one of his favorite moves. "Dig." Eevee burrowed underground, and the flames passed harmlessly above where she previously resided.
"Be careful Growlithe! That little pest could be anywhere," cautioned Austin. Growlithe stayed vigilant, bracing itself for impact, but it never came. A minute passed and Eevee still hadn't appeared.
Growlithe and his trainer were starting to get annoyed, all the while Ash stayed silent. It was another minute later when Ash saw Growlithe begin to relax, and then he made his move.
"NOW!" yelled Ash. Eevee burst from the ground beneath the surprised Fire Pokemon, ramming into him and dealing super-effective damage. Growlithe flew high into the air, but Ash and Eevee were not done yet.
"Swift Attack Eevee!" Yellow stars flew from the silver-grey Pokemon, striking the already air-born Growlithe and dealing even more damage.
Austin could only look on in disbelief as his Pokemon fell to the floor, knocked out by an opponent that hadn't even battled before.
Meanwhile... "YOU DID GREAT PRINCESS!" Ash cheerful exclaimed, scooping up his little Eevee and giving her a hug, which she returned with joy sparkling in her eyes.
Ace Trainer Austin recalled his Pokemon with a small scowl, handed over some prize money with a lowly muttered congratulations, and then took off for parts unknown.
Ash and Co. continued to Celadon City, with smiles on everyone's faces.
Celadon City Entrance
Proving Brock's earlier estimate right, as always for the most part, the group arrived in Celadon City in the late afternoon. Walking in, the group noticed the city was full of foliage. Trees, bushes, plants, flowers, and more all made up a big part of the city. Notable places of interest included the renowned Celadon Department Store, the local Game Corner, a well known fragrance store, and the Celadon City Gym.
Passing a cafe full of locals and tourists alike, the group made their way to the Pokemon Center, ready for some rest and relaxation. They failed to notice a buxom blonde in a yellow sundress, with a matching hat and sunglasses, watching their every move from a table at the cafe.
After the group left he eyesight, she paid her tab and got up, heading in the direction of the local Game Corner. Along the way she discarding her previous clothing in an alley, taking on the appearance of a Game Corner employee. Once inside, she headed to the back right corner of the establishment, and entered an "employees only" area. Down the stairs she went and through several corridors, passing by several men and women with uniforms that had a recognizable red R. During this time, she discarded yet another disguise, leaving her with a black uniform with a red R, and a white and red cap. She soon came to an office with familiar double doors. Passing through like it meant nothing, the woman came face to face with a man with short blue hair.
"Boss not in Archer?" questioned the girl.
"No. He is taking care of business elsewhere. Do you have something to report Agent 009?" asked the Rocket Executive.
Lounging on the desk and leaning uncomfortably close to the Executive, she gave him a cruel, yet playful, grin. "Yes. As expected, the package has arrived in Celadon.
END CHAPTER
Shout out to the reviewers that guessed Tyrogue! A few of you have made some guesses on the mystery girl from last chapter as well, but confirmation for that will not occur until far later. Today's chapter was filler to some extent, but we still had a few fun things happen. Tyrogue was introduced, a training montage occurred, Eevee won her first battle, and a certain Rocket Agent made her appearance in this Fanfic. What does Team Rocket have in store for Ash?
Next Time - We visit a familiar fragrance/perfume store and Ash will have his Gym Battle... Or will he?
DragonEmperor999 - Thanks for the review! You were kind right lol! Hope you liked Tyrogue.
Espeon860 - Thanks for the review! Glad you agree with the logic on the trade. Well done on your Pokemon prediction. As for your prediction on the girl, that will be a solid maybe until around the Pokemon League ;)
Plebston323 - Thanks for the review! Check back around the Pokemon League to see if you were right :)
Sidryuu14 - Thanks for the review! As I mentioned in the PM, Squirtle will not be joining the team. Ash will be sure to catch plenty of other cool Pokemon though!
Hoguie - Thanks for the review! Per the PM, I appreciate the feedback. As you are the second person to offer this advice, I will keep it in mind for future chapters.
Instead of a recommendation, I have a bit of an informal poll. I do not have my heart set on an evolution for Tyrogue, unlike Eevee. What do you guys think he should evolve into?
Remember to review with your thoughts/critique :)
Smell ya later!
