Chapter 3 – First day

"Oh, boy." Scarlett muttered as she finished reading the article. "They really have nothing better to do."

"Who?" Chris asked, coming up behind her. She let out a soft squeal as she turned around giving him a startled look. She didn't answer him and handed him her phone. He took the phone and read the article. A chuckle escaped his lips as he looked up at her. "I did sweep you off of your feet, tho." He pointed out with a smile. "Just a few seconds ago."

Scarlett made a face at him and shook her head out of amusement. "You are not funny. At all." She said, with a clear smile on her face.

"Sure," He winked at her and held out the phone for her to take back. "So, I guess you and Jost are still a thing, huh?"

"Of course." She told him as if it was the most absurd thing anyone has ever said to her. She took her phone back and looked up at Chris to see him scratch the back of his head for the second time that day. "What's wrong with your head? You keep scratching it, do you have bugs?" She quickly asked and took a mild step back.

Chris rolled his eyes at her and shook his head. Truth was, he felt nervous to be around her in a small space. Ever since they met he had grown a crush on her that never went away but then it turned into something more and they had become such good friends that he didn't want to ruin things. Scarlett had gotten married and divorced then married and divorced and now she was engaged to someone who seemed to make her really happy. Chris didn't want to come between them. Over the years he had learned how to repress his feelings for her and he was genuinely delighted that she found the one that made her truly happy.

The only person who knew about his feelings for her was his brother, Scott, who had told him to confess his feelings numerous times already but Chris wasn't ready to do so or he preferred to respect Scarlett's boundaries after her breakups. He would leave her time to grief her relationships and when the right amount of time passed, someone would have already swept her off her feet.

After her engagement to Colin was announced, he had decided to give up on the hope of being with her. It was the next right thing to do for his heart.

"No, I don't have bugs." He told her with a smile and looked down at his wet t-shirt. "Well, I should, uh, shower." He mumbled before quickly escaping to the bathroom.

"O-kay." Scarlett trailed off and watched him leave with confused eyes. Before she could think about his strange behavior, her phone dinged again. She grabbed it quickly and read the message she received from her fellow avenger and friend, Elizabeth.

Elizabeth – Heyy, girl! Head about the new avenger movie coming up, I can't wait for the fans to know about it!

Scarlett – Hey, Lizzie! Thanks, we're all so excited.

Scarlett – btw the show was just amazing! you were just incredible, Rose loved it!

Elizabeth – Yeah, it was great and I'm glad to hear that. What have you been up to?

Scarlett – I've began shooting Nanny Diaries 2 with Chris, it's been good so far. How about you?

Elizabeth Hold up, are you telling me we'll get to see you two be a couple again?

Scarlett – basically, yeah

Elizabeth – I DID MY WAITING! 13 YEARS OF IT! IN HOPE OF THAT!

Scarlett – Lizzie…

Elizabeth Sorry, I got excited…

The rest of the evening went on smoothly. The both of them took a shower, separately. They cooked together and watched a movie before going to bed. For the first night, Scarlett slept in the bed while Chris took the couch. They had decided to rotate between the couch and the bed. Chris had trouble sleeping on the couch, it was smaller than him and when he woke up, his whole body felt sore.

He stood up from the couch and stretched himself to relieve his muscles. He grabbed his sweat pants from the side of the couch and slipped them on along with a shirt. He turned around towards the bedroom part of the apartment and saw that Scarlett was still asleep. He smiled softly and walked to the kitchen to start cooking the breakfast. A nurse would arrive in over an hour to get them tested for the love scenes they will have to shoot for The Nanny Diaries 2.

Chris grabbed the pancakes mix from the cupboard, he knew Scarlett loved to have fresh baked pancakes for breakfast along some fruits. He flipped the pancakes over the pan before cutting some strawberries. Keeping his head low only increased the pain in the back of his neck, he tried to relieve it by rolling his head but it wasn't doing much.

"I take it you didn't like the couch?" Scarlett asked him as she walked inside the kitchen and startled him. She approached the counter and stole a strawberry from his hand.

"I've had better." He told her, putting the pancakes on a plate and putting the plate on the table. "I made breakfast."

Scarlett smiled and took place at the table. "I know, the smell woke me up. I'm starving!" She said, making him laugh. "You made my favorite." She added, grabbing some food for herself.

"Did I?" Chris said nonchalantly, not wanting to admit he knew. He looked at her through his eyelashes and smiled when he saw the joyful grin on her face as she took a bite.

In the afternoon, Chris and Scarlett were sitting at the table playing cards while watching The sound of music. The nurse had came in the morning and quickly left without bearing any words to either one of them apart from 'hello' and 'goodbye'.

"You're cheating!" Scarlett accused in a laugh, her card was taken by him again. "You've got all the good cards, how is it fair?"

Chris laughed, grabbing her card and adding it to his own. "I've got luck." He told her with a simple shrug and putting down another card. "I have confidence in sunshine." He sing-sang as he won again.

"You can't win 6 times in a row without cheating."

Chris burst out in a loud laugh and clasped his hand over his belly. "How am I cheating? I just put down the cards."

"Whatever." Scarlett rolled her eyes and put down another card. This time, to her delight, she won and managed to get his card from him.

"Oh, my favorite moment!" Chris said, putting down his cards and focusing his eyes on screen of the TV.

Scarlett looked to the TV and watched the scene Chris loved so much. It was the moment where the Captain and Maria confessed their feelings for each other. Her favorite song was coming up during this scene.

She found herself glancing at Chris when the Captain said. 'Well, you can't marry someone when you're… in love with someone else, can you?' She looked down at her cards and smiled softly.

The song finally came up and she started singing along. "Perhaps I had a wicked childhood / perhaps I had a miserable youth / but somewhere in my wicked, miserable path / there must have been a moment of truth." Chris looked back at her when she started singing and he gave her a smile.

"For here you are, standing here, loving me / whether or not you should." Scarlett kept on singing as she and Chris locked eyes. "So somewhere in my youth or childhood / I must have done something good."

"Nothing comes from nothing / nothing ever could / so somewhere in my youth or childhood / I must have done something good." She sang, a smile plastered on both of their faces. "For here you are, standing here, loving me / whether or not you should." Chris joined in as the same time as the Captain. "So somewhere in my youth or childhood / I must have done something good."

They both sang together now, their voices lacing in a soft harmony. "Nothing comes from nothing / nothing ever could / so somewhere in my youth or childhood / I must have done something good."

"Such a good movie." Chris said once they finished singing.

"Yeah." Scarlett agreed with a shy voice.
