Chapter 14
A week later, Sandie had settled in with Greg in his apartment, they had made all the plans for the wedding. Greg thought that she would be a bit more excited but she seemed distracted. He tried to talk to her but she had become distant. Even James, who tried to convince her not to move in with Greg because of what happened last time, had no luck talking to her.
Sandie didn't get a chance to say goodbye to Elliot or Zack, Greg just dragged her off to New Jersey to be with him. He said it was because he wanted to keep an eye on her, make sure nothing else would happen to her. Sandie knew he was being jealous and possessive. It wasn't like Greg to act like this, he could care less about what happens to people but maybe it was because Sandie had weaved her spell on him, making him want to marry her and protect her. Sandie was starting to have second thoughts.
Sandie didn't do much anymore, not since her attack. She stayed in the apartment harly coming out or speaking to anyone. It wasn't like her and Lisa had tried to convince her to see a therapist. Sandie had thought that her sex appeal was starting to fade since the only man she ever saw anymore was Greg but that was only because she didn't go out and made sure he knew where she was all the time.
Even the sex between the two of them had sizzled. Sandie slept on the couch most nights and her drinking had become a bad addiction again. Greg was afraid that she would turn back to drugs especially after her ordeal, he didn't want to lose her to the streets again. Greg tried everything he could to snap her out of her zombie-like coma but failed.
James and Greg sat in the bar drinking and trying to come up with ways to get Sandie back to her old self again. Greg tried to convince her to come out with them but she refused. He was really starting to worry about her.
"She needs help," James said, "Professional help. She's been through hell and needs someone to talk to."
"I've tried talking to her," Greg told him. "You and Lisa both tried talking to her as well, she won't break. I don't know what else to do."
"Maybe her friend, the detective, could try talking to her," James suggested.
"Oh no! I will not get anyone else involved, especially her past lovers."
"A past lover got her into this, maybe one could get her out of it."
"Forget it, I'll help her myself," Greg said, "I have to go."
He got up, paid his tab and left.
Sandie sat on the couch staring at a blank television screen. She was still in her nightgown and hadn't done her hair or her makeup. Why bother? She thought. Her life was a mess now that Jake had ruined her. She still had some bruising and slight swelling on her face from where he beat her, plus a few cuts that were still healing. Sandie couldn't stand to look in the mirror anymore.
She jumped when she heard a noise, it was Greg entering the apartment. He tossed his can aside and sat down next to her. He put his arm around her and pulled her close. She tried to push away but he held her tight.
"Greg, I can't," Sandie whispered.
"Sandie, I wish you would talk to me. You are still beautiful. I just want you back the way you were. I miss you. James misses you."
"I can't do this right now," Sandie told him. She got up and went into the bedroom, shutting the door behind her. She laid down on the bed and fell fast asleep.
A few moments later, Greg went into the bedroom to check on her. She was sound asleep so he just covered her with a blanket and let her be. He went back out to the couch where he instantly fell asleep. He woke up shortly after when he heard a noise. He looked around the apartment to see Sandie sneaking out. He thought about stopping her but let her go instead.
Jake paced the floor in his small cell, he was furious. He thought of ways to get even with Sandie and that cop. Sandie was his always and forever. He had to find a way to make that clear to her even if it meant killing her. How the hell am I going to get out of here? He wondered. He didn't have to wonder long because right then, the lights went out and the alarms went off. Prison break! Someone had escaped? While the guards were busy chasing down one guy, Jake wondered if now would be a good time to escape himself. He checked the cell door and to his surprise found it unlocked. Didn't the cell doors lock when there was a prison break? Didn't matter to him, he was free. He made his way to the exit in the opposite direction of all the other guards and was surprised when he managed to escape with no trouble. This was way too easy! He thought.
Elliot sat at his desk trying to keep busy, for once it was slow and he was having a hard concentration on anything. He was upset that he didn't get a chance to say goodbye to Sandie and that her fiance had just come and taken her home. Olivia was talking to him but he didn't hear her. He thought maybe that he could take a day off and go visit her. He thought he heard someone calling him but he wasn't sure who. He looked around and saw the captain standing in the doorway calling him.
"Elliot! My office now!"
He got up and went into the captain's office, closing the door behind him.
"What is it?" he asked.
"I just got some bad news. There was a break at the prison. Jake and some others had escaped."
"What! How?"
"We don't know but I'm assuming he's going to go after Sandie."
"I have to warn her," Elliot said and left the office to make a call.
James's phone rang and he answered it.
"James, it's Detective Stabler. I need to talk to Sandie, it's important."
"You'll have to call Greg, she's living with him now."
"Give her a message for me, will ya? I'm on my way out there."
"Why? What's wrong?" James asked.
Elliot told him about Jake escaping and that he may be going after Sandie.
"What?" James was shocked. "I will try to get a hold of her."
He hung up and called Greg's apartment, no answer. He then called Sandie's cell, again there was no answer. He hung up and headed down the hall to Greg's office.
"Greg, where's Sandie? I just tried calling her and there was no answer."
Greg looked up from the magazine he was reading.
"I don't know," he answered.
"What do you mean you don't know?"
"I mean I don't know where she is. She took off."
"She took off? When?"
"Last night. She left and I haven't heard from her."
"You just let her leave? I thought you knew where she was all the time? How can you just let her go? Are you insane?"
"Calm down, what's the deal?"
"The deal is, her ex broke out of prison and may be on his way after her!"
Sandie had everything she needed to exact her revenge on Jake. She had planned on visiting him at the prison and poisoning him with some drugs she had swiped from the hospital. She reached the prison only to find out that he had escaped. She was afraid and now she would have to come up with another plan. She headed over to police headquarters where Elliot was getting ready to leave to warn her. He was surprised when she showed up there.
"Sandie, what are you doing here?"
"I, uh, needed to see you," she lied.
Elliot put his arm around her and steered her out in the hall.
"Listen," he told her, "you've got to get out of here. Jake is most likely looking for you."
"If he is looking for me, then what better place to be than here."
She had a point. There were quite a few search teams out looking for him, Sandie would be safe here. Just then he heard Olivia calling him.
"Elliot! Phone!"
"Stay here," he told Sandie as he went to answer the phone.
"Stabler."
"Detective, it's James. I wanted to let you know that Sandie is missing, again."
"Don't worry, she's here at the station."
"What? What is she doing there?"
"Do you want to speak to her?" Elliot asked him. James said he would. Elliot put him on hold as he went to get Sandie but she wasn't in the hall where he left her. Just as he was about to go back to the phone, he heard a commotion down the hall.
"We need some help down here!"
Elliot told James that he had to go and would have Sandie call him as soon as possible, then he and Olivia ran to where the commotion was. A cop was standing over another cop that was laying on the floor, he looked like he was hurt and in a lot of pain.
"What happened?" Elliot asked.
"A woman," croaked the injured cop, "she just came up behind me, hit me with something and took my gun."
"Did you happen to get a look at her?" Elliot asked but he already knew the answer, Sandie!
Elliot told Olivia to sta here, he had to go find Sandie before she did anything else stupid.
Sandie knew that Jake would be looking for her and possibly Elliot too. The problem was she needed to find Jake first and wasn't sure where to start. She headed for the motel that they had stayed at several times. The motel was deserted but there was one car in the lot. Sandie went up to the room that it was parked in front of and peered in the window. To her surprise, she found Jake already there making his plans to kill her. He had several weapons lying on the bed, she wondered where he stole those from.
Sandie checked the gun she had stolen from the cop back at the precinct and made sure that it was loaded. She tucked it into the back of her jeans, took a deep breath and knocked on the door. Jake looked up from what he was doing, grabbed the nearest gun and peeked out the peephole. He was surprised to see Sandie standing there. This was going to be easier than he thought, she had stepped right into his trap.
Jake opened the door, "Well well well, look what the cat dragged in."
Sandie stepped inside and Jake closed the door behind her. She then got ready to put her plan into motion.
"Oh Jake," she started, throwing her arms around him and pretending that she had missed him. "I've missed you so much and I'm so sorry for what I did. I hope you'll forgive me."
Jake was a bit surprised. What was she up to? He put his arms around her and kissed her hard, he had to make sure she would fight back this time. He was even more surprised when she kissed him back. Sandie had to act quick before he decided to take off her clothes and find the gun. As they kissed, she pushed him up against the wall. Jake started to reach for her ass and she pushed his arms up against the wall.
"Not so fast, baby," she told him. She had to make her move soon but she was so nervous. What if things backfired? She pushed her body up against his, she could feel him getting hard from the touch of her breasts against his body.
Jake pushed his arms back down and grabbed her ass, pulling her closer to him. He kissed her lips then her neck. He started to take off her top but again, she stopped him.
"What's wrong, baby?" He asked her. "Why did you come back? How did you know…."
"Shhh," Sandie said as she put a finger to his lips. Her heart was pounding. She couldn't wait anymore. She pulled the gun from her jeans and thrust it to his chest. Jake was taken aback.
"What the hell?"
"I know you were out to kill me, so I figured I'd get to you first!"
"You fucking bitch! You never change!"
Jake pushed her away and she dropped the gun. He grabbed her by the arms and threw her to the bed. He straddled her and slapped her hard across the face. Sandie fought back, digging her nails into his eyes. Jake screamed in pain, he jumped up and Sandie kneed him in the groin. He fell to the floor in pain. She jumped up and grabbed the gun, pointing it at Jake.
"You will never ever hurt me again!"
Then she pulled the trigger.
