Ok so I probably should have addressed some things for my readers who read the first cringe version I made.
I'm not doing the same things as I did before.
What do I mean by that? I mean that I'm completely abandoning everything from 'JEL' and starting fresh with 'TIB', since I haven't gotten that far into the story in JEL it won't really matter much but I will say this: Imma not be disrespecting the Eyes of the Lord anymore.
Does that mean Jaune is going to be OP? You're goddamn right he will be, but is he going to be truly OP?
Well… you'll just have to read and find out yeh?
Disclaimer: I don't own RWBY or Eyes of the Lord
"So you were able to see a valley from up there?" Pyrrha asked her new partner, who walked behind her as she led them through the Emerald Forest.
Jaune nodded with confidence. "Yep, and it was a pretty nice valley too." A very nice valley… Though the view from where he was currently at was pretty good as well.
"It must have been quite a view," it definitely was, "Though I didn't see any valley when we were launched here."
The boy shrugged, his eyes looking to side innocently. "You probably just didn't notice it, being launched into the skies is pretty distracting after all."
"I suppose you're right about that." Pyrrha agreed as she pushed a branch out of her way, Jaune didn't notice it however and was rewarded with the sound of a 'thwap' as the branch slapped him square in the face.
I probably deserve that, Jaune thought to himself as he pushed the offending branch off his face with an annoyed expression.
"Oh! I'm so sorry Jaune." Pyrrha said as she walked over to him with a worried look, who waved her off. She could easily his irritated look however, and mentally smacked herself on the head. Good job Pyrrha, not long after you gotten your partner and you already earned his annoyance.
An uncomfortable silence fell on the duo as they made their way north. Well, mostly for Pyrrha, Jaune's art of not giving a fuck was protecting him from it as he nonchalantly played a game on his scroll.
The champion of Mistral glanced back at her partner briefly before looking ahead again, only to whip her head right back when she realized exactly what her partner was currently doing. What the hell? They were in the middle of a Grimm-infested forest and he was playing games on his scroll?! Sure the two of them together were undoubtedly strong – maybe even a bit too strong – but they were still students, and they were still in the middle of initiation as well for Oum's sake!
If Jaune noticed Pyrrha's distress then he didn't show it as his eyes stayed glued to the screen of his scroll, his fingers tapping and sliding on the virtual buttons of the game he was playing. All his attention solely focused on the two shadowy characters displayed on the screen and were currently attempting ass kicking on one another.
In the end Pyrrha could only sigh hopelessly as she continued to lead the way, unwilling to confront her partner after already offending him once. But still, she would take him over the Schnee any day of the week. Even if he was a bit… carefree, to say the least. She shuddered to think if she ended up on a team with the white haired girl, or worse, partners. Gods help her if that had ever happened, she'd probably end up losing her mind in a week!
…
"Jaune, I really don't think we should go in there." Pyrrha said, looking nervously at the cave before them.
"We've been walking north for a while now Pyrrha, there's a good chance that the relics are in there." And they have already spent quite some time walking as well, he wasn't willing to risk failing initiation just because they ran out of time and couldn't find the damn relics.
"Still." She pointed towards the drawings to the side of the entrance, depicting a fight of many men against a giant scorpion, most likely a Death Stalker. "I don't think we should ignore that…"
"I'm sure that whatever it is, it's long gone now." Jaune said before he walked into the cave, using his scroll as a light. His partner reluctantly followed him a second later.
As they went deeper into the cave, Jaune turned to his partner with a smug look. "See? No Grimm."
"Hmm, I guess you're right. Maybe I was being a little paranoid." Pyrrha admitted as she looked at the walls around them, some fungi growing here and there. And was the air getting warmer, or was it just her?
"It's fine- and hey look." The champion of Vale pointed ahead of them, where a golden light shimmered. "That has to be the relic."
Pyrrha couldn't help but let out a smile at this, finally things were looking up for them.
It did not take long for her to be proven wrong.
"I told you! I knew that there was a Death Stalker in there but you didn't believe me!"
"Is this really the time for that?!" Jaune shouted back as they ran through the forest, ducking under a branch and vaulting over some fallen logs. One thought was ringing in his mind as he maneuvered quickly and smoothly through the woods – Thank god he watched all those parkour videos on YouTube!
"Okay, maybe this isn't really the-" Pyrrha let out a yelp as the Grimm behind them ran through a tree and accidentally hurtled the top half of it to her, the halved log just barely passing over the champion as it crashed into the ground before her.
The two quickened their pace at this, but it only served to increase the distance by a measly 3 feet.
"Wait, I see something!" Pyrrha said as what appeared to be an abandoned temple came into sight ahead of them. She could see about five people there, their features becoming clearer as she got closer to them.
"Jaune we should-! Jaune?" The girl turned to address her partner, only to see that he wasn't beside her. In fact now that she thought about it, she couldn't hear the sounds of the Death Stalker chasing after her either.
Turning around, she could now see why.
Jaune was tired of running.
He leaned underneath the Grimm's stinger as it pierced the ground behind him, his right hand falling to the handle of Crocea Mors as he moved closer to the Grimm. He vaulted over a pincer as it swiped at him and jumped on top of the other when it tried to grab him.
He hasn't activated semblance, and for a good reason. The Grimm's movements were obvious enough that he didn't need to, so activating it would just be a waste of aura. Contrary to what many people thought of him, he wasn't useless without his semblance. In fact, he learned how to predict his enemy's attacks and how to dodge properly from his continuous usage of it.
Jaune hummed as he leaned his body sideways, allowing the Death Stalker's stinger to pass by him again. A cracking sound reached his ears, the pincer Jaune was standing on was the source. The sharp organ of the Grimm now piercing it and injecting its own venom into it.
The Death Stalker roared in agony as it violently pulled back its stinger from itself, Jaune hitched a ride with it as he hung from the tail with his left hand. With a rasp of steel, he pulled out Crocea Mors from its sheath, the blade glimmered as he channeled his aura into it before he sliced off the stinger.
The Grimm roared in pain again as it angrily flailed its shortened tail around, Jaune could barely hang on to it before he lost grip and was sent flying towards the temple.
"Jaune!" Pyrrha yelled out as he passed over her, her head snapped back to the Death Stalker however as it began to approach her, clearly enraged due to the lost tip of its tail.
The champion of Mistral did the best thing she could do, turned back towards the temple and ran. There was no way she was going to face against that thing alone, Jaune just tried and he was sent flying!
"Fuuck!" Jaune cried out as he flied through the air before crashing into the circular wall of the temple, his aura sheened as it took the brunt of his landing, didn't protect him from the pain though.
Crocea Mors dug into the ground beside his head a second later, sheesh talk about a close call.
"Damn, you okay vomit boy?" Yang asked as she loomed over him, she only got a groan in response. Jaune would have given her the middle finger as well, but his body refused to obey him at the moment.
"Um… Yang?" Ruby patted her sister on her shoulder and pointed upwards, where a giant Nevermore flied over them with a screech and was that Weiss hanging on its talons?
"How could you leave me?!" Weiss shouted down at Ruby.
"I said jump!" The silver-eyed girl shouted back.
…These people are insane, Jaune thought to himself as his hands slowly rose up.
"She's gonna fall." Blake said as she looked up at Weiss.
Ren nodded along with her a second later, feeling strangely calm about the whole situation for some reason. "She's falling."
Jaune sighed as he slowly pulled himself up, his hands applying his weight on the nearby stones for support. He was going to kill that Death Stalker when he sees it again! …Wait why there a shadow looming over him, and why was it getting smaller and darker?
His ears caught the sound of screaming above him and he looked upwards. White panti- Pain was all he felt as a body crash-landed on top of him and had him sprawling on the ground – again – as dust clouds blew out beneath him.
Weiss still continued to scream as she sat on top of him. Making Jaune's eye twitch violently as he tried to push himself up, he was going to strangle this girl if it's the last thing he does!
"Oi Weiss-cream quiet down already! You're fine!" Yang yelled out as she covered her ears, the others behind her doing the same.
"AHHH- huh?" Weiss opened one eye and realizes that she was indeed fine and was no longer falling in the sky. She blinked before looking down to see what it was softened her landing, it was the body of Jaune Arc who was struggling to get up from his intimate position with the ground.
"Oh god, I am so sorry!" Weiss said as she immediately stood up and began to help him up, the boy accepted her help with a scowl. His hand twitched as he contemplated getting revenge for her ear-rape earlier and for using him as a landing pad.
The sound of a screech captured everyone's attention and drew eyes towards the trees where Jaune came flying out of. A moment later, Pyrrha came running out with a Death Stalker hot on her tail, trees being hurtled forward as the Grimm chased after the champion of Mistral.
"Jaune!" Pyrrha immediately called out as soon as she spotted him, relief fully evident in her tone as she ran towards them. Thank god he was alright! …Well for the most part anyway, she winced as she realized that the boy was holding on to the Schnee for support. It must have been a painful landing if he was in such a state.
Though, Jaune only smiled viciously as the Death Stalker came closer to him, he separated himself from Weiss before his left hand reached out to the side and pulled up Crocea Mors from the ground. It was time for revenge!
Before he could run towards the Grimm and commit fucking murder however, an arm ran across his chess horizontally and began to carry him away from the giant Death Stalker. His eyes trailed upwards from the arm holding him, stopping to admire the large breasts for a good two seconds before finally moving up to the face of the person responsible.
It was Ruby's sister – Yang he believed – who was carrying him as she ran away from the several hundred pounds of death behind her. The others also running along with her. His eyes caught Pyrrha reaching her hand out to grab something at one of the temple's pedestals as she ran towards them.
"Put me down woman!" Jaune demanded as he tried to pull his arm off her, though the soft feeling behind his head was very much making him not try so hard.
Her grip only tightened on him, but he wasn't exactly mad about it. "Are you crazy?! I saw the way you looked at that Death Stalker, there's no way in hell am I letting you go!"
He sighed, while that would be nice since it meant continuing to experience the heavenly feeling behind his head, he was determined to get revenge on the Death Stalker and totally not because he wanted to save his partner. And so he grabbed her hand that was latched on to his left side and spun out of her grip, causing the blonde girl to let out a curse as he began to run towards the Death Stalker.
The group skidded to a stop and moved to help Jaune, only to scatter when the Nevermore began to rain down sharp feathers at them, the Grimm having flown ahead of the group.
"Jaune!" Ruby yelled out and was about to use her semblance to catch up to him- when Weiss pulled her back by the hood of her cloak and took cover behind one of the stone columns, a few black feathers dug into it a second later but didn't pierce through it.
"Leave him, Jaune and Pyrrha are strong they'll be fine. Us though," the Nevermore screeched in pain as pink grenades exploded on it and forced the Grimm to fly away, "we have our own Grimm to worry about."
Jaune continued to run towards the Death Stalker, casually ignoring the black feathers that narrowly missed him. His and Pyrrha's eyes met, one was running towards the Grimm and the other away from it, both nodded towards each other in understanding.
The Death Stalker snarled before extending a pincer at Pyrrha, who grimaced and ducked under it. But she didn't expect for the other to close in on her, it would have caught her- should have caught her, were it not for the sword that struck it and forced it away from the girl.
Seeing her chance, Pyrrha dashed forward, Jaune eagerly swapping places with her as he proceeded to engage the large Grimm in close-quarters. He smiled viciously as he did, immediately throwing Crocea Mors to his right hand as he rolled over a pincer that tried to swipe at him. It was time for revenge!
Miló shifted into its rifle form as Pyrrha spun into a shooting position, carefully aiming the scope to hit the Death Stalker and not her partner before she began firing. Her shots rang out as they all landed, but none truly harmed the Grimm, only proving to be an annoyance at best as her bullets bounced off its bone plating.
Seeing her bullets having no effect so far, she aimed for the eyes of the Grimm instead. She fired, the round carved through the air as it traversed the path that its owner planned for it. Pyrrha's aim rang true as her bullet hit her mark, the Grimm roared in pain as it felt the loss of one of its eyes and something else burying in its spot. Several more shots followed after, with only a few being as successful as the first.
Enraged, the Death Stalker began to throw everything it had at the human in front it, even going as far as to use its wounded tail in an attempt to strike Jaune, who tsked as he was forced to jump back in order to avoid the tail that slammed onto the ground in front of him.
It was starting to get harder to avoid the Grimm's attacks, then again the loss of one's eyes is a pretty good reason to get mad. Perhaps it was time to activate his semblance?
As Jaune jumped back, something caught and pushed him forward gently. He turned his head, Pyrrha stood behind him, smiling as she held Miló and Akoúo in her hands.
"About time you joined in." Jaune said, standing a bit straighter as his partner moved over to his side, who rolled her eyes at him. Was she not helping with her shots earlier? Well, it did only serve to just make the Grimm before them angrier but still!
"So I go left you go right?" Pyrrha questioned as she fell into her stance, she got her answer when Jaune ran to the Death Stalker's right side.
With a smile, she too ran towards the Death Stalker, inspired by her partner's fearlessness.
The Death Stalker hesitated, looking left and right, unsure of who to attack as both humans converged on him in different sides. It eventually settled on Jaune since he was closer and slammed down its right pincer at him, who leaped to the side to avoid it as the ground caved in under its pincer.
Before it could throw another attack at him, the Grimm roared in pain as one of its left legs was lopped off. The Death Stalker threw a blind swipe to its left side and hit the surface of Akoúo, knocking back its owner a few feet. It slammed its tail down on Pyrrha – only to see it reach halfway to its target and drip with its own blood, having been shortened again.
It looked at its shortened tail in confusion before it fell on its right back, two of its hind legs having been sliced off in one motion. The rest of the fight went like that, whenever the Death Stalker moved its attention to one side, the other side would be attacked and cost the Grimm a limb. This pattern repeated until the Death Stalker no longer had any limbs other than its two pincers, but it could no longer summon the strength needed to use them to attack the two champions standing in front of it. They were panting slightly as they looked at the defeated Grimm before them.
"So Jaune," Pyrrha turned to her partner, "would you like to-"
Jaune stabbed Crocea Mors into the Grimm's mouth, it twitched convulsively for a few seconds before it stilled and began to evaporate. "Hmm?" He addressed his partner with a raised eyebrow.
"-do the honors…" She finished with a dull look.
Ember Celica barked as it fired dust rounds targeted at the giant Nevermore. Alongside it, StormFlower rained down rounds upon the Grimm as it flew to their owners.
The two jumped as the Nevermore reached them.
Yang fearlessly hopped into the Grimm's mouth as it tried to eat her, pushing her left arm up and her right leg down, preventing the Grimm from closing its mouth as she force-fed the Grimm shots from Ember Celica. "I! Hope! You're! Hung-! -gry!"
Meanwhile, Ren jumped on top of the Nevermore's head and raised StormFlower up, before he brought it down and stabbed the first set of its eyes. His grip tightened as the Grimm began to shake its head wildly, no doubt attempting to get the two of them off it.
Yang's ears rang as the Nevermore screeched in pain and shook its head wildly, all four of her limbs now being used to keep the Grimm's mouth open as it poured more strength into it closing its beak. However, she was starting to become dizzy from the loud noise and the continuous shaking.
The duo looked behind them, relief filled them as they spot the cliff wall and immediately jumped off the Grimm. As they fell, Ren couldn't help but notice Yang below him sway her head weirdly, his eyes narrowed in suspicion before his eyes widened and he dove for the girl.
Rocks fell down as the Nevermore crashed into the cliff. The Grimm frantically tried to regain its footing as it slid down, its talons eventually latched on to some solid ground and the Nevermore tried to fly away- but ice enveloped the tip its tail and prevented it from doing so.
As Weiss ran to her position, Blake fired the pistol portion of Gambol Shroud over to Ren, who caught it and two tightened the ribbon between two pillars. Yang rested on Ren's pillar as she massaged her head with one hand, grimacing as she thought of what could have happened if Ren didn't notice something was off with her earlier.
The Schnee heiress passed below the ribbon a second later, before Ruby jumped to the center of it with a shot from Crescent Rose and bent it until it reached a black glyph made by Weiss, two more blue glyphs spawning behind it.
"Of course you would come up with this idea." Weiss said as she aimed towards the struggling Nevermore, the ice holding it back slowly cracking as the Grimm persisted in attempting to fly away.
"Think you can make the shot?" Ruby asked as she looked at the Grimm.
"Think your scythe can handle it?" Behind them, Nora was happily smiling as she did practice swings with Magnhild as one would with a baseball bat.
"My baby can handle it, besides that's what your other glyphs are for right?" Her partner sighed in response before turning the black glyph into a red one as Nora walked up, holding her hammer with a grin.
"Batter up!" Was all the orange-haired girl said before pulling Magnhild back and hitting Crescent Rose with it. A loud clang echoed as the ground beneath them cracked whilst Ruby was sent flying towards the Nevermore.
Rose petals trailed behind her as each shots from her weapon helped her come closer and closer to the Grimm, before she passed by its head entirely and caught its neck with Crescent Rose as she landed on the cliff wall. A series of white glyphs spawned below her and up to the top of the cliff. Ruby began running upwards, her knuckles turned white as her grip continued to tighten on her weapon as she dragged the Nevermore through the cliff along with her, rocks falling down below the Grimm as she did.
Both she and the Grimm began to cry out as they neared the top. Adrenaline rushed through her veins as she finally reached it and she leaped forward, she was pulled back when the Nevermore stuck to the edge of the cliff. Fear and shock enveloped her for a moment, before a shot from Crescent Rose rang out and she severed the Grimm's head from its body.
The Nevermore's severed head rolled onto the cliff, before Ruby landed beside it a moment later, rose petals slowly falling after.
Pyrrha watched in amazement from afar as she watched the lifeless body of the giant Nevermore fall down to the crevice below it, having seen the entire fight from beginning to the end.
"Woah…" Was all that came out of her mouth before she turned over to her partner to see his reaction, only to sigh as she watched him play games on his scroll again. Honestly, what was she going to do with him?
"Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Lie Ren, and Nora Valkyrie." Ozpin's voice echoed throughout the auditorium.
Pyrrha smiled she watched the four walk up to the stage, her happiness stemming from the fact that she now knew for sure that she was not going to be on a team with the Schnee. Although, she wasn't sure if her partner was exactly… the best compromise. Like, who would even try to play games in the middle of a Grimm-infested forest?! And twice for that matter!
"You four have collected the white rook pieces. Henceforth, you four will now work together as Team RRWN, or Team Rune. Led by… Ruby Rose!"
Weiss couldn't hide her shock and disbelief as she looked at the girl beside her, her emotions easily shown on stage for one second before she schooled her features as the sounds of clapping reached her ears. Yang saw it however and narrowed her eyes at the girl, before her attention was drawn to the Headmaster once more.
"Jaune Arc, Pyrrha Nikos, Yang Xiao-long, and Blake Belladonna." As the four walked on to the stage, the students around them whispered. Blake's bow twitched, her hidden cat ears hearing exactly what they were all talking about, the two 'Invincibles' in her team.
"The four of you have collected the white knight pieces. Henceforth, you four will now work together as Team JPBY, or Team Jazzberry." The newly formed team winced at the name, while Jaune narrowed his eyes accusingly at Ozpin.
"Led by… Jaune Arc!" His reaction was instantaneous.
"What!?"
"I said that you will be the leader of the team." Ozpin smiled, seemingly not noticing the boy's horrified look. "Congratulations young man."
Jaune placed a hand over his mouth as he openly stared at Ozpin with a shocked expression, leading many to believe that he was simply surprised at being the leader. Pyrrha even placed a hand on his shoulder supportively.
They couldn't be more far off the truth.
Jaune took a deep breath to calm himself, before his hand went into right pocket. "Headmaster."
"Yes?"
He put on his knuckleduster. "Put your hands up-"
A hand appeared on his mouth immediately, several more grabbed his arms and began pulling him off the stage.
"Thank you Headmaster." Pyrrha said with an obvious fake smile, as she and her teammates dragged their struggling team leader. "We'll be taking our seats now."
The crowd of students laughed at them as they made their way to their seats, making Yang grumble as she dragged her team leader to it. However, Jaune's sour look instantly shut them up as his team practically forced him to sit down… wait a minute wasn't he supposed to be the leader?
Ozpin nodded upon seeing the crowd before him quiet down. "Now that everything is settled, it is my pleasure to welcome you all into Beacon. If you check your scrolls, you will find that each of you have been assigned dormitories, with your scrolls acting as the key."
Jaune tuned out the rest of Ozpin's speech, more focused on the fact that he was not only the leader of his team, the said team also consisted of three beautiful girls and just one measly boi. Admittedly he didn't really much of a problem with it, he enjoyed some good eye-candy after all.
What he did have a problem with however, was the fact that he was supposed to be the leader of the team. Surely the Headmaster could see that he was just a really strong student with no leadership qualities? The way he reacted earlier should be enough proof. Not to mention, being team leader meant extra work to do and that meant less time to watch anime!
His eyes caught one student standing up and several more did the same, all of them exiting the auditorium with their new teams and most likely going to their dorms. He must have missed Ozpin's speech again, which clearly didn't matter much.
With a quiet sigh, Jaune also stood up and began exiting the auditorium, not bothering to tell his newly-formed team to follow him. If he had looked behind him however, he would have seen that they were already following him anyway.
Didn't take me a month to update this thank god. Still took me a while though, I got stuck a bit on the fight scenes so feel free to roast me on that.
So why did I change the teams you may wonder? The answer is simple, it's because I felt like it lol.
Also Jazzberry huh, I genuinely couldn't think of a better name. Kinda makes me feel shitty though since I really feel like I just copied it from another fanfic, ehem Not this time Fate ehem.
Though now that I think about it, I just copied the two teams there, only difference being the partners are the same as cannon… shit kill me now please.
So yeah that's about it, see ya.
