AN: I honestly just wrote this at 3 am. I have no excuse. I didn't like the original, so I rewrote it. So just think of it as a mix of LOK, Outlander, and 40k. If you enjoy it awesome, if you don't that's okay. We're all here to have fun.

Many of the lost will be found, eventually, dead or alive. Disappearances, after all, have explanations…Usually.

''We are still searching Mei-Xing Yee, we are chasing any leads that seem promising. We ask that you respect the Yee family's wish for privacy at this time.'' Lin Beifong stepped down from the podium leaving Saikhan in her place. She ran a hand over her face, whipping sweat from her face. Though autumn had come early this year the sun was blazing in the afternoon sky. Mei-Xing had been missing for three weeks. She never expected a missing person case to get so much news. Then again anything associated with the Avatar was big news, including her friends.

It had been one month since Amon's defeat. Mei went missing just after. With one last look at her officers, she gave the signal that she needed to be alone. Getting into the Satomoblie she was driven to the station. As soon as she walked in, Lin's heart dropped it was Lao. He was talking to one officer, sharing tea with him. She debated whether she should go over to him, and tell him just like she told Mizuki every day, I'm sorry Zuki, there hasn't been anything new. As she passed, Lao tapped her on the shoulder.

''Lin how are you?'' Lin looked at the airbender master. His yellow and orange robes were wrinkled as if he had been sleeping in them. His eyes had bags under them, his brown eyes lost their mischievous look. She had never seen him like this. Not even when Mei was sick as a dog last winter.

''You know how I am Lao. What about you?'' Lin asked. She of course knew the answer. He and Mizuki were a wreck. The airbender shruged. He took a sip of tea.

''You brew an excellent cup Officer Li,'' He complimented. ''As well as I can be. The duties on the island keep me busy. Mizuki is… she's trying.'' There was sadness in his voice. Lin nodded, she couldn't imagine going through something like this.

''So… what can I do for you?'' She asked. Though she knew that answer. Zukie was now sending Lao for an answer. He shrugged.

''I just came to see how you're holding up. I know it's been tough for as it has been for us.'' Lin sighed. Lao was the prime example of an Air Nomad. Always so kind, looking out for others even when his entire world was crashing down around him.

''Lao, don't worry about me. I'm fine. It's you and Zuki I'm worried about. Lao nodded.'' He leaned back on the counter.

''I'm worried about Mei. Do really you think she ran away because of what happened with Amon? Zukie and I have been doing our best.'' Lin's face grimaced at the mention of it. She would've given up her bending again just to spare Mei.

''No, I don't think so. Mei wouldn't run away. She likes routine and order. Running away is out of the question. Lin could see some of the tension ease out of Lao.

''Do you think it was the Equalists? There had been some rumors that…'' Lao hesitated. Lin knew exactly what he meant. The rumors were somewhat true, Equalists kidnapping noteable benders, holding them for ransome. But this was different. No ransome had been asked for. Unless… No Lin. Don't even go there Amon is dead.

''Those are only rumors.'' Lin said. Lao nodded, his eyes downcast. She put a hand on his shoulder.

''Go on back home Lao. I'm sure Tenzin has plenty for you to do.'' The airbender nodded. He bowed low, and left. Walking into her office, she poured a glass stoch. Lin was never a religious person, but she sent a prayer to the spirts for Mei to come home safe.
