Chapter 10: The Start of Training

"Do we really need to train without my inventions?" Jimmy argued. Jimmy and Cindy were out in Jimmy's backyard area. He was much better rested, as he slept from 6pm last night all the way to an hour prior. He wasn't all too happy about skipping a day of school but he needed the rest. "I stand a much better chance with them."
"Yeah but what if you're in a situation where no inventions are accessible Neutron?" Cindy rebuted. She was wearing her martial arts uniform sporting a black belt. Jimmy on the other hand was wearing her older uniform with a white belt. "If you want to get stronger, you'll need to try it the old fashion way with hand-to-hand combat. And before you ask, I'm not gonna let you slide by with you dance teacher gizmo."
"Ultra Shock Dance Teacher 8000-"
"Who cares what it's called? What's important is that you can't use these shortcuts in a normal situation. If someone sneaks up on you in the middle of the night and Goddard isn't around for protection, what would you do?" Cindy asked rhetorically. "And besides, you agreed to this."
"All you did was put a sticky note next to my bedroom door saying to meet you outside whenever I woke up along with this old robe," Jimmy attempted to argue.
"And you're standing here now," Cindy was starting to get annoyed. "Now do you wanna learn how to defend yourself or not?"
"Okay okay Vortex, I do!" Jimmy stated as he was doing jazz hands.
"Alright. Before I teach you anything, I want to try to see where you're at. So try to throw a punch at me." Cindy explains.
"You're… serious…" Jimmy said with a deadpan expression.
"Don't keep me waiting, or I might just throw one to test your reflexes." Cindy shrugs with a smirk.
"Alright," Jimmy then started to strategize. If I throw a punch directly, she'll likely catch it up front, so maybe I can go at the side. He attempts to throw a punch to the right only for it to immediately get caught by her hand.
"Not bad for an ameuter," Cindy gloats but doesn't let go of Jimmy's hand which causes him to throw his left fist. This ultimately fails when she catches it. "Not a smart idea to leave both of your hands out of commission," she says while shaking her head. She then pushed his hands out of her grip with enough force to almost tip Jimmy over.
"Just as I thought…" Cindy stated. "We're gonna start with the first form and then work from there." Jimmy nodded in response. "This routine is called the Kibon Hana, though we'll start with the first line." They both were standing across each other at a safe distance.
"Chamber the left fist to the right shoulder. Point the right fist straight out in front of you." Cindy said while showing it. Jimmy followed suit, though a tad slower. "Good, now step left with your left foot turning 90 degrees left into a front stance with your left foot forward. At the same time, low block with the left arm, while pulling the right fist back to your right hip… Okay, now aim for the upcoming punch by raising the left fist straight out in front of you. Step forward with the right foot into a right front stance. Simultaneously, middle-height punch with the right fist; of course, at the same time pull your left fist back to your left hip."
"Like this?"
"Exactly, though I'd recommend being a little quicker but we'll get there in due time. Now let's go right. Chamber for the block by bringing the right fist to your left shoulder. Step back and to the left with your right foot so that it's way behind you and to the left, then pivot on the left foot 180 degrees to the right so that now you're in a front stance with the right foot forward. Simultaneously low block with your right arm. Next, aim for the upcoming punch by raising the right fist straight out in front of you. Now, step forward with the left foot into a front stance and left punch. Now chamber that fist into your right shoulder."
The next couple hours consisted of Cindy teaching him the Kibon Hana. Jimmy did have a rough start, but he did catch up pretty quickly. After a while, they took a water break. "Alright Jimmy, let's see if you learned something from today. Remember, don't throw any hits to the face. I don't want either of us going home with a concussion." Though can any more knowledge fit in that big head of his?, she thought trying to stifle a chuckle. They both went into sparring stances. "I'll go easy since you've just started."
"Don't underestimate me Vortex." Jimmy smirked.
"Your move Neutron." Jimmy quickly strategized a plan of attack. Jimmy threw a punch towards her stomach, which she almost blocked, but then he pulled back at the last second knocking her off guard. Then he threw one to her side. She then threw a few punches back to him. He managed to dodge one and block a couple others. Cindy did manage to get one to his chest. Jimmy retorted by attempting a kick to her hip. This caused him to lose balance as he wasn't quite proportional with his head. Jimmy almost recovered but Cindy was quick to send a low kick to his leg still on the floor. And then Cindy tackled Jimmy on the grass. They lay there breathing heavily. "Well, I gotta admit, for the first day, you held your own for a bit. There may be a chance for you in this level of combat yet," she chuckled.
"I did say not to underestimate me," Jimmy chuckled as well which then turned into a smile. "Who knows how well I'd be if given more time? I suppose I'll have you to thank for that Cindy."
They both then looked into each other's eyes with a green/blue glow. Then they close their eyes and lean in, both anticipating what's to come.
"JIMMY!" Carl shouted looking for him as he, Sheen and Libby were at the front of Jimmy's house. The sound of him, instantly snapped Jimmy and Cindy out of their daze with their faces turning a crimson red. They immediately stood up roughly five feet apart.
"Uh, hey Carl! We're back here!" Jimmy said once he managed to shake any blush away.
"So what're you guys up to?" Libby asked suspiciously.
"Uh-" Jimmy started.
"We just did some martial arts training!" Cindy cut off a little too quickly. She then back-petaled a tad. "He's learning faster than I expected. Still has a little ways to go, but he'll get there."
"I see…" Libby wasn't fully convinced but she was gonna let it slide for now.
"Anyway Jim, I have your homework here." Carl handed over.
"Thanks Carl," Jimmy said, "So what do you guys wanna do tonight?"
"We could do a game night." Sheen suggested.
"Hmm… As long as it isn't anything weird, I'm down." Cindy nodded
"Word," Libby agreed.
"We could do it at my house." Carl suggested. "I got tons of snacks and-,"
"Uh, how about we play here? My mom's got tons of leftovers and most of it's pretty tasty." Jimmy countered, knowing Carl's family has a… peculiar set of food.
"Yeah, let's go!" Everyone else said.
"And don't worry, I have more popular games this time around for everyone to enjoy." Jimmy happily said. And so they went inside for a fun night ahead. Meanwhile, in Jimmy's lab where Evil Jimmy lays unconscious, a screen next to him shows his brainwave activity spiking and his left hand twitches.
