Chapter 14: A Calm Night
September 21st, 2006, 10:30pm
Retroville, TX
After the dance as well as various other activities, the Fall Festival eventually ended for the night. Jimmy and the others decided to walk back home since it wasn't far.
"That… was… AWESOME!" Sheen raised both of his fists up to the air in pure excitement. "Ican'twaittiltomorrow,let'sgetsomemoreca-"
"The last thing you need right now is more sugar," to which everyone nodded their heads.
"Yeah Sheen!" Carl chimed in. "You're more hyper than usual now, but you then will fall-" As if on cue, Sheen passed out due to a sugar crash. Libby attempted to wake him up, but to no avail, he was out cold. She decided to pick him up over her shoulder and they all kept walking otherwise.
"It was super fun Carl! We should do something like this again!" Elke said.
"Yeah, I'm glad you came!" Carl smiled.
"So how did you meet Carl?" Betty asked curiously.
"Carl and I were pen pals for a little while…" She started to explain all that while Jimmy was enjoying the conversation from behind alongside Cindy. I guess I really did expand my circle of friends… (See The Incredible Shrinking Town) He then looked to the woman he danced with earlier. If this was a year ago, or even a few months ago, I wouldn't have seen myself dancing with my rival. I guess time changes people… He then noticed a feeling of unease on her face.
"Hey, is everything okay?" Jimmy asked quietly.
Cindy responded, forcing a smile, "Yeah… everything's fine."
Jimmy wasn't convinced in the slightest. "I can tell something's not right. Was it something I did?"
Cindy questioned. "What? No, it's not your fault. It's…" She then sighed and then whispered. "You know how my parents are, right?"
"Yeah," Jimmy pondered for a second. "I'm surprised they didn't come."
"I'll explain more later," she said while looking down. "But let's just say things aren't well at the moment…"
Jimmy grabbed her hand and she hesitated for a moment but accepted. "I'm here if you need to talk."
"Thanks Neutron," She said quietly while slightly blushing. "I'll let you know." A few minutes passed as they overheard the crazy conversation that ensued, but that would end due to a fork in the road.
"Well, Sheen's house is down this street with mine not too far," Libby said. "Gotta put this one to bed. Had a fun night with you guys!"
"Leeeeeet'sss waaaatch Ullllttrrraaaallloooorrrrdd," Sheen slowly said in a half dazed state.
"See you tomorrow Libs!" Cindy waved goodbye.
"Later you guys!" Carl said.
"Bye bye dance lady and crazy monkey boy!" Elke said, to which Cindy chuckled at.
"Don't let the bedbugs bite, Shine," Nick smirked. Betty and Jimmy just waved. A few more minutes of small talk passed before Nick and Betty had to leave. "Our houses are down this block," Nick stated. "Later!"
"See you guys tomorrow!" Betty walked with Nick down the street.
"Oh and Jimmy!" Nick pulled Jimmy to the side as he began to whisper. "Congrats on getting together with the loud blondie!" He whispered.
"Where'd you get that idea from?" Jimmy denied immediately. "We're not ummm…" His face turned a full crimson as he fumbled for a couple seconds. This got a solid chuckle out of Nick. "I mean… have a good night!"
"You too boy wonder!" Nick waved goodbye. The rest of them walked in silence for a bit. Mainly due to being tired. Once they reached their houses, Carl and Elke left first. "See you both tomorrow. Hope llamas will be there!"
Elke responded. "Today was a lot of fun! If llamas are there, then tomorrow will be even better! See you folks later!" She yelled as they ran to Carl's house.
"They're perfect for each other…" Cindy said with a deadpan expression.
"No kidding…" Jimmy replied with a similar expression. "So I guess this is it…"
"Yup. I don't want to keep them waiting." Cindy reluctantly said. I'd much rather stay away, but if I do, they'll get angrier. They were about to walk to their houses for the night, when suddenly… "Hey Neutron!" Cindy shouted across the street as she ran up to him in the middle of the road.
"Yeah?" Jimmy turned around to instantly blush with how close she was.
Cindy then pecked him on the cheek. "I had a fun night Jimmy," she whispered with a blushed smile. "I hope you did too!"
"Yeah I did," Jimmy smiled. "What was the kiss for though?"
"Just returning a favor from Mars," she winked (See League of Villains).
Jimmy blushed and smiled a bit. "Have a good night, Vortex!" He then walked inside.
"You too Neutron!" Cindy waved as she headed back to her side of the street. She then had a few seconds of hesitation before opening the door. She was nervous as to what the problem between her parents would be tonight. She then opened the door and braced herself to what'll happen next.
To Be Continued…
Apologies for the delay on this one. Life has been busy as of late. I do have a better chapter idea for what's to come but I hope this was decent for the time being. Be back with another chapter soon!
