Thank you everyone who's been reading so far.
To maskedkeeper: Yeah, in hindsight I should've added more detail. I hope the lack of detail didn't turn you or anyone else off of this story. I will try to do better in further action scenes.
With that out of the way, on to the story.
It was Tekuno's first day at UA. He got up early, putting on his uniform and getting ready to leave. When he got to the kitchen, he was surprised to see both his parents by the table eating breakfast.
"Good morning Tekuno." His mother smiled at him.
"Morning son." His father said, looking up from the paper.
"Good morning guys." Tekuno said, taking a seat. "So, what's the occasion?"
His parents gave him a big smile, "We wanted to congratulate you on making it into UA." His mother told him.
His father got up and approached him. He took Tekuno's tie and started straightening it. "FIrst quirkless student in the hero course, good going son. Kuno would've been proud." At that last sentence his mother started to sniffle, so they chose to eat their breakfast in a comfortable silence. Maybe it was the fact that it was the first time since the funeral that they were all together, but Tekuno hadn't noticed until now just how hard it was to talk. Despite how many times they'd all been told that bottling things up would be unhealthy, maybe his parents were too afraid to bring the subject up. He knew he was.
When Tekuno got up to leave, his mother stopped him, hugging him. "Good luck at school, Tekuno. Now you be safe, all right?" She said with a small sob.
"Thank you Mom, I will." Tekuno assured, before heading off to school.
Tekuno was one of the first people to arrive in his class. The only other two students were the guy who yelled at Izuku, and a girl with black hair in a spiky ponytail. He checked the seating chart and saw he was in front of the girl. He took his seat and took out his phone, preparing to set up some instant hacks.
"Hello," The girl behind him said, "I'm Yaoyorozu. It's nice to meet you."
Tekuno studied her. She seemed sincere enough. "Tekuno, nice to meet you too." He said. With nothing to really talk about, she let him get back to his devices which was fine by him. He continued to work on his hacks until a hand slammed down on his desk. He looked up and was annoyed to see Bakugou.
"HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET IN HERE?" Bakugou yelled at him, a look of mixed disbelief and anger on his face.
Tekuno gave him a grin and said the one thing sure to piss him off, "The same way you did, I passed." Bakugou growled and looked about ready to tear him to shreds, when the guy from the other day butted in.
"You shouldn't yell at your fellow students like that. Please let us avoid getting into fights, especially on the first day of school." The guy said in a serious tone of voice.
"Tch." Bakugou muttered something about cheating under his breath and went to his seat, putting his feet up. As the other guy started to lecture Bakugou about respecting school property, Tekuno tuned out, just barely paying attention to the rest of the students piling in. He nodded to the bird headed student next to him, who nodded back. His attention was caught by Bakugou yelling "DEKU". He looked up to see Izuku had got in too. Tekuno rolled his eyes when he noticed the guy in the sleeping bag behind Izuku, no doubt their teacher and waiting for him and the other two students up front to shut up. When they finally did, he got out of his sleeping bag and addressed the class.
"It took all of you eight seconds to quiet down, that won't do. Time is precious, rational students would understand that." He said, in a monotone voice. Tekuno got a good look at him before finally recognizing who he was.
'Well shit, it's Eraserhead.' Tekuno thought to himself. Halfway through his year as a vigilante, Tekuno caught Eraserhead snooping around Yakuza hideouts. There was no doubt in Tekuno's mind that he was the one the hero was investigating. Luckily he had managed to keep him off the trail until he finished his goal, but if Eraserhead was going to be his teacher, he was definitely going to figure out Tekuno was the vigilante.
"I'm Shota Aizawa, your teacher." He continued, pulling a tracksuit out of his sleeping bag. "Right, let's get to it. Put these on and head outside."
As they went to the locker rooms to change, Izuku approached Tekuno. "So, you made it here too, huh?" Izuku said, grinning. God, Tekuno wanted to punch him. He put in the work, what the hell did Izuku do?
Instead, Tekuno bottled it in. He was good at that anyway. "Yeah. So how did you get in here Midoriya?" He asked, "Ten months isn't exactly enough time to develop any real muscle or fighting skills."
Izuku laughed, nervously rubbing the back of his head. "Well you see I, I kind of, well, developed a quirk." He said, sheepishly.
If Tekuno wanted to punch him before, he wanted to shoot the little fucker now. This lazy piece of shit gets a quirk? The guy who sat on his ass, while Tekuno did all that fucking work? Every cut, bruise and muscle ache came rushing back to him at once. He took a deep breath and held it in, "Well aren't you lucky?" He muttered. He had finished putting on his uniform by that point so he walked out to where the class was told to go.
When the entire class was gathered, Aizawa told them they'd be taking a quirk apprehension test. "But we'll miss the orientation." One of his classmates complained.
"If you really want to go pro, you can't waste time on pointless ceremonies." Aizawa retorted. "Here at UA we're not tethered to tradition. That means I get to run my class however I see fit. You've been taking standardized tests for most of your lives, but you never got the chance to use your quirks for them. This country still wants to pretend that everyone is created equal instead of letting those with the most power excel. It's irrational. One day the ministry of education will learn." He explained.
'Bullshit.' Tekuno thought to himself, 'I've seen you in action. You know just as well as I do that a powerful quirk is nothing against a skilled opponent. A small team on the skill level of a military strike force could take out half the nations top heroes.'
"Bakugou," Aizawa called out, "You were the one with the most points in the entrance exam. What was your farthest softball throw in junior high?" He asked.
"Sixty-seven meters I think." Bakugou answered.
"Right, try doing it with your quirk this time. Anything goes, just stay in the circle. Don't waste time." Aizawa told him.
"Alright," Bakugou said, winding up to throw. With a shout of "DIE!" Bakugou threw the ball, adding a powerful explosion.
While the rest of the class watched in awe, Tekuno rolled his eyes, 'I knew the guy was mentally deranged, but I didn't think it was to this extent.' He thought.
"All of you need to know your capabilities," Aizawa explained to them, holding up his phone which read "705.2 meters", "It's the most rational way of figuring out your potential as a pro hero."
The class started getting excited, saying things like, "We get to use our quirks?" and, "That looks like fun, I want to go." and, "That's what I'm talking about.".
"They're gonna die in the field with that kind of attitude." Tekuno muttered under his breath.
"So this looks like fun, huh?" Aizawa asked in a voice that Tekuno could tell meant the class was fucked, "You have three years to train to become a hero and you think it's gonna be all fun and games? Idiots." The rest of the class was starting to catch on to their current position. "You're going to be competing against each other in a series of tests to gauge your potential. Whoever comes in last will be considered worthless and will be expelled."
'Again, bullshit.' Tekuno thought, 'You don't have a quirk that would help you in any of these tests, and you know that's the same for other students. You're not looking for strength, you're looking for creativity.'
"Like I said, I get to decide how this class runs. Understand?" He said with a look on his face that dared any student to complain.
Orientation girl spoke up, "You can't just expel one of us on the first day, that's not fair." She said.
Aizawa glared at the class, "Oh, and you think natural disasters are? Or power hungry villains? The world is full of unfairness and it's a hero's job to combat that." He explained. "For the next three years UA will throw one difficult challenge after another to prepare you for it. So go beyond, plus ultra style. Show me it's no mistake that you're here." He finished with a grin.
'I doubt anything I do physically will put me ahead,' Tekuno thought. When Aizawa wasn't looking, he pulled out his phone and hacked into Aizawa's. 'Gotta keep an eye on the final tally for now.'
As the tests began, everyone had something they were especially good at. Tekuno did pretty well seeing as how he was in very good shape. Hell, without the quirks he'd probably be in the top five at least. But with everyone getting insane scores in one test or another, it was quite clear where Tekuno was averaging. But things really got interesting when the ball throw came around.
First, orientation girl showed off her gravity quirk by getting a score of infinity. Then, when it was Izuku's turn, Tekuno watched with rapt attention. He may not have liked the guy much, but he was interested in what his quirk was. When Izuku threw the ball however, it flew a pathetic forty-six meters before dropping to the ground. Tekuno immediately looked towards Aizawa and confirmed his suspicions. Izuku looked at his hand confused before Aizawa spoke up.
"I erased your quirk," He explained, "The judges at the exam were not rational enough. Someone like you should not have been allowed to enroll at this school." It took a moment before he recognized Aizawa as Eraserhead, most of the class not knowing much about him. "You're not ready," Aizawa continued, "You can't control your quirk. If I let you throw that ball you would have broken your arm. Were you counting on someone else to save your useless body?"
'So his quirk gives him strength but breaks his bones.' Tekuno thought, 'I almost feel bad for him. Almost.' By the time Tekuno finished his inner monologue, Izuku had been given the ball back and had one more shot at it. He threw the ball, unleashing a massive burst of energy. Tekuno squinted, noticing that only his finger was broken. 'Huh, so that brain is good for something other than geeking out over heroes.' He thought, 'Well played Midoriya.'
The rest of the tests went on like normal, though due to the incredible stamina Tekuno had built up, he managed to snag the top spot in the distance run. As Aizawa tallied up the final results, Tekuno checked the score from his phone. Dead last, with Izuku right above him. Nothing a little hacking couldn't fix. 'Sorry Midoriya, but it's you or me.' He swapped his place with Izuku's and looked up. For a second he could've sworn Aizawa was watching him from the corner of his eye. Aizawa put the final scores up with Tekuno at spot number 19, and the infinity girl somehow didn't get first place (?).
"By the way, nobodies getting sent home." Aizawa told the class, "That was a logical ruse to make sure you all tried your hardest."
As the rest of the class breathed a sigh of relief, Yaoyorozu looked around before speaking up, "I thought it was obvious. Maybe I should have said something." The rest of the class glared at her. Tekuno grinned and gave her a thumbs up.
Aizawa dismissed the class, "Everyone get back to the classroom, you'll find your syllabus on your desks. Midoriya, go to Recovery Girl and get that finger fixed up. Tekuno, stay behind. I want to speak to you in private."
'Shit, he already knows doesn't he?' Tekuno thought. He walked up to Aizawa, better to get it over with.
"Congratulations on being the first quirkless student in UA's hero course." Aizawa said, letting a grin form on his face. "I expected nothing less from the vigilante."
"So you figured it out, huh Sensei?" Tekuno asked, rubbing the back of his head.
"I had my suspicions when I saw you at the entrance exam." He answered.
"Sensei I-" Tekuno started, but was cut off.
"Save it, I know you stopped several months back. I don't need to know why you did it, I just need to know we're on the same page." Aizawa took a deep breath, "You won't be doing any more crime fighting until you get your license, right?" He asked.
Tekuno nodded, "Yes Sensei."
Aizawa nodded, "Alright. Now get back to class or you'll be late."
Tekuno saluted and ran inside to the locker room. When he got there he saw a few of his classmates still there. One of them, a guy with blond hair and black highlights, walked up to him. "Yo, dude. Name's Kaminari." He introduced himself.
"Tekuno." Tekuno responded, getting changed.
"So look, a couple of us were wondering, what is your quirk? We didn't see you use it during the assessment tests." He asked.
Tekuno looked him straight in the eye, "I don't have one." He answered.
"Whoa, seriously. Nothing wrong with that, but I'm kinda surprised you came right out and said it." Kaminari rambled.
Not the worst reaction, "I guess I figured me getting in the course speaks for itself." Tekuno said calmly.
Kaminari nodded, "That's pretty cool dude. See you in class, alright." He said, shooting Tekuno a grin.
'He seems okay.' Tekuno thought, as he prepared to get back to class.
