Summary/disclaimer: time for another chapter of Sins of the Father. Enjoy the 2000-word chapter. I don't own Metal Gear, Konami, Hideo Kojima, and a few others do.
Owl was still caught off-guard by the environment they had been around. There was… Something, he didn't know what it was, what it meant, but he did know that there was no end to wars on the horizon. He'd be honestly curious as of the second what the hell would do at the time. The entire insanity that'd be coming was sure to annoy them. Dingo had caught them flatfooted and yet he didn't see it coming. There was something when it came to the topics.
"There were dozens of soldiers at the site," Owl added as he shook his head. "If they had an entire army ready to go? Why didn't they just…?" Owl started to question as he cut his tone off.
He knew the fact, that they wanted something important from the site…. Just like how their bosses had. If they had stayed? There would have been a huge firefight, and if they overcame THAT? There'd probably be a much bigger response from the military, one they weren't ready to respond to in such numbers.
"How badly did your commander hinge this mission on you?" Owl and the others heard as they turned to Sniper Wolf. "Surely it was important if they sent a team of elite soldiers like you to handle it," Wolf added as Owl and his team all shared a look.
All of them knew she was a potential risk to their mission the perfect sniper would end up being. There was too much at stake when it came down to it. There was bigger fish to be hunted and slain, however? All of them knew there was a probable reason for this.
He was quite done with dancing around in the shadows at the moment. They had bigger things to do than talk about damning themselves for the safety of their mission.
"There were plenty of squads that they could have sent, but we were sent instead," Owl added before he hummed as he slowly bent down to a knee.
Owl chuckled; this tired him just as much as everything did. He wanted to rest his head on a pillow, relax, and make sure he could be ready for another mission.
"We were to be expendable, have to be willing to fight against odds like that," Owl added before he shook his head. "Just like how I am assuming you were? They didn't seem very concerned about seeing you almost dead… Like nothing had changed as nothing mattered." Owl added before he sighed to himself.
He could only question what happened next. The next mission would be 50 times more dangerous. Every single mission was designed to put them through the wringer.
"All of them are expendable, a perfect army is one you don't mourn, you don't consider them people if nobody knows them," Wolf stated before she leaned on the wall. "A nice tactic when you don't want the tragedy, no?" Wolf questioned to which Owl was silent.
"Nobody mourns a ghost." Owl put in before he hummed to himself. "Yes, I agree. Still? It's a pretty messed up way of waging war at the end of the day. I mean, dropping in nameless bullet shields to take a hit you can't? That's a lot more messed up than I believe people say it is." Owl added before he cracked his fingers, unsure of what to say or do next.
Wolf's eyes held a modicum of amusement and mirth. She had her answers, but it wasn't like she wanted to give them yet. She wanted to wait and see… Which made sense for a sniper when he considered it.
'The last time we had a sniper? There was chaos. How does that change someone at the end of the day? They aren't the soldiers they had been years ago… And we aren't DD anymore. The roles we play will be different… As will the masks we wear.' He stated to himself while he looked at the woman who was next to him.
(With Dingo)
Dingo waited for the jeep to slowly start to zoom towards them. He was entirely silent while he did so.
His plan had been a failure, as was his mission. While he had sabotaged the team, they STILL ended with what they needed. It was almost as if they had planned for his betrayal which he had made sure had been hidden from them.
'They were smarter than I expected. Their skill meant that I didn't surprise them the way I expected. I almost wondered what will happen with the data they have. There is no way Owl will simply hand it over to them. He's not the type to simply surrender that sort of tech to anyone… And a Metal Gear? They'd be insane to simply let someone handle it.' Dingo stated while he started to think of a better plan.
"Report." Dingo heard while he shook his head.
"They had retrieved the gear and what they needed, sir," Dingo stated as he sighed to himself. "I do not know what the best plan was, but they own the gear," Dingo added while he cleared his throat.
His master was silent as he waited for his orders at the moment. There were plenty of soldiers that his master had that were capable of replacing him on these sorts of missions.
"And what does he know?" Dingo heard while he raised an eyebrow. "If he knew something? He'd have executed you on the spot." Dingo heard as he lowered his gaze.
There was entirely something on his mind that made his master curious. He was entirely due to him being a warrior as he started to think of the next move to make. There was plenty of evidence he had set up and they didn't at all seem to know what the hell had happened.
They would for there was more than enough proof he hadn't been on their side for an investigation into their ranks. It helped that there was plenty of contempt for their tactics.
(With Owl and Wolf)
Owl sighed as he frowned to himself and started to think of what best to do. There was to be a rebalancing of the scales and more soldiers to fill their ranks. He was smart when it came to making sure he had the best team for the time.
But the people who had betrayed him made him doubt this. How many traitors had been within the Diamond Dogs? Within Owl Wing and the rest of their army? How many had betrayed their ranks at the end of the day?
Still? He didn't plan on doing something yet if there was. he needed to draw them into the open and see which was loyal and which didn't work within the military. There was also helped reinforce their army with better soldiers and make sure as possible they were ready for the next mission as best as they were allowed.
He didn't know, but he damn well planned on finding out before the day was done. He needed to best identify who would fill their ranks and make sure their army was ready.
"The boss is still staring into space." Owl heard as he rolled his eyes.
"I'm not the boss," Owl added before he frowned. "Secondly? I am not allowed to thin at the end of the day? We were betrayed by Dingo and there are going to be more soldiers like him. I want to know what to do next at the time because I don't know who will betray us. How many soldiers are allied with the enemy if one waited for it to happen at a perfect time." Owl said to which Wolf frowned.
"There cannot be many if Dingo didn't bring them," Wolf said as the others turned to look at her. "There is also the fact that his bosses probably expected a simple mission and only sent one soldier to not simply rachet the mission to pieces. Why send an entire team if it meant they'd be found out and surrounded?" Wolf stated to which the others started to think of how best to nod towards this.
They frowned to themselves as they realized what to do next as both their soldiers and their allies were going to be needed when it came down to it. Owl knew his commanders would work the details out at the moment and they'd worry about handling the military work as best as they were able to.
"It may mean a few more soldiers still need to think about the future," Owl stated as he shook his head.
He cleared his throat to himself and prepared for what was to come. The longer he handled these problems? The more they had to deal with problems outside their control.
Still, it didn't at all bother Owl. Not yet. They had far more on their plans than it seemed. There were a lot more problems than they wished to speak on. He was honestly rather interested in Wolf and what she was able to bring to the table. She was as much a soldier and it seemed as if she was aware of this and what he was to be capable of. There was such an interest in how he handled this
He started at her with a special interest. She seemed to notice the interest he had in her. It wasn't as if he hid it to be honest. She was one of the best soldiers he had seen and if he had her talents on his side at all? He'd probably be alright in combat at the end of the day.
Yet he wasn't one to let those feelings get in the way at the moment. He didn't understand Wolf despite his attempts to, not yet. She had a lot to handle as of now and it didn't help if he did nothing to support them. The more time he waited for something to happen meant less time to plan for it.
And with the fact, there was a traitor in their midst? Owl needed to find who had been a problem and whom he needed to defeat. He wasn't able to properly plan something with no real plan nor resources on that front and it all seemed to click into place. She hadn't made up her mind on them yet and it seemed as if they still needed more proof to properly handle this.
Owl seemed to lean in his chair as he properly waited for another opportunity to speak. He had so much left to ponder for the time being and this honestly made him more confused than anything. The answers he'd find probably wouldn't help that much and he knew that, but he had to try. It'd be a lot harder to swallow if not for the fact that they had been betrayed. The plan had fallen apart.
It had fallen to tiny pieces. The more they attempted it, the more doubts that came up in his chest. They had to be prepared for the next time the enemy, he'd be ready either way for the enemy and provide them with something new. All he'd need was the time and effort.
Still? If this was to end? It had to end properly. Nothing else was going to cut it and they knew it.
Owl crossed his arms across his chest.
Author notes
Phew. Another chapter is done! I want to point out that the next chapter will be in 2-10 months and will show both Wolf and Owl arriving at Mother Base and more about setting up the team at the time. The next chapter will be 900-6500 words at the time and will be delayed at the time as of the time and will be a lot longer than this. Until then, Lighting Wolf out!
