Chapter 15

Gray Incites Jealousy

"Gray," I call out to him from across the guild, going over to him instead of the pink haired idiot who I can't seem to locate at the moment.

"Oh, hey Lucy," he says once I have reached him. "Where's flame for brains?" he asks, probably because we are never apart. If leaches were pink, I would believe that Natsu is one. He never leaves me alone! Never! Except for, you know, this one rare moment.

"I don't know," I say nonchalantly. Though I like the bid goofball, being able to talk to my other nakama like this without him hovering over my shoulder is nice.

"Tell me when you find him, I have a bone to pick with that bastard." He says angrily, with every pore showing his desire to beat Natsu to a pulp.

I sigh. "What did he do this time?" I ask, curious on what knew thing he came up with to annoy Gray.

"What did he do this time!?" He says, getting riled up. "I ordered food from Mira today, a nice big meal because I was starving. Right before I was about to take a bite, Master called me over for a little talk. I go over and he starts berating me about my so called bad behavior on missions which he has gotten multiple complaints about. Mumbling something along the lines of me needing to top stripping on missions and how inappropriate it is. It's not like I do it on purpose! Or it's anything new or out of the ordinary! He was just in a bad mood and wanted to take his anger out on me!" he says venting.

"Besides, there is no one who would complain after seeing my sexy body," he says narcissistically, to which I roll my eyes. Yea, his body is good, but I have seen better.

"Back to what I was saying before, after I finally escaped, more hungry that ever, I get back to find that all my food had disappeared!" he said.

I can see where this is going . . . .

"I then asked Mira if she saw what happened to my food. She said she saw Natsu, fucking Natsu, eating my food! He freaking ate my food! Who does he think he is!" he angrily exudes.

Okay, I get why he is mad, but this mad? Natsu has done way worse before. Way, way, way worse. "Did anything else happen?" I ask, trying to figure this out.

He shots me a weird look. "No, why would you ask?" He asks, mystified.

I face palm. These two stupid idiots! They just want to fight! They just have to provoke each other. Any excuse they can get their slimy fingers on, they grasp onto for dear life. I don't get why they even bother pretending to get excuses. You would have thought that Erza would have installed an adequate amount of fear into them, but no! Nothing can penetrate their thick heads! These two testosterone filled males never learn! If they can't get the answer threw their heads, one day I am going to Lucy kick them so hard in the ass, that the message will travel up to their brains that way.

"No reason," I say, beyond frustrated, though if he saw that on my face, he promptly decided to ignore it.

"Lucy,"I hear my name being called from across the room.

I turn to see Natsu barreling towards me. I groan. That's just great! Here we go again. Gray is going to insult Natsu, and then Natsu is going to respond back with his fists and it will be a full out fight. Will I ever get and peace!

I decide to ignore him and turn back to Gray, to continue our conversation. I hope Natsu will take the hint and leave me alone when he sees that I am conversing with Gray, hopefully, but doubtfully, not wanting to get into a fight, if only for the sake of my nerves. I am not that lucky.

"Lucy," he says again, this time right next to me.

I reluctantly turn and face him. "Oh, hey Natsu," I say off handedly, as if I didn't hear him before and wasn't simply ignoring him. Sometimes I wish I could simply ignore him.

"What are you doing," he asks curiously, trying to get me to turn to him and have a conversation.

"Well, I was just talking to Gray over here," I say pointing to gray who is on the other side of me, "before you came over."

"Oh," he says, looking over at Gray is if just realizing he is here.

"Did you want something?" I ask him patiently, hoping to get him to go away and avoid a fight from breaking out.

"No, not really," he admits.

"Okay then," I say and turn back to face Gray who looks as if he is about to jump out of his seat and start a fight. Not on my watch!

"So Gray, you were telling me about your last mission," I half-lie, hoping that he will take the bait.

He looks confused for a second, but thankfully allows himself to be caught on my line. He tells me all about his last mission. I try to pay attention, but I cannot so he only gets my feigned attention. Inside I am sweating bullets and hoping that my attempt at a diversion will work.

Natsu, unfortunately, still hasn't left my side, and for some reason it was starting to get hot in here.

"But Lucy, I had something I wanted to say to you," he says petulantly.

"Natsu, can't you see I am in the middle of a conversation," I say, not believing he could be so rude as to interrupt Gray mid-sentence.

"But I am more important," he mewl out, with a frown on his face.

"Natsu, I am in the middle of a conversation. Tell me what you wanted to say after I am done talking," I say and turn back to talk to Gray.

Gray goes on talking as if he didn't notice the exchange that just took place. Really, I sometimes forget how narcissistic Gray could be.

"Lucy," he whines.

"Natsu! Stop it! Don't make me tell you again!" I whisper-scream at him.

As I am listening to Gray, the temperature in the guild continues to rise until in begins to become uncomfortable.

"Yo, Ice-stripper! I just wanted to say thanks for lunch, it was so good! The best part was that it was free. How was your lunch?" Natsu asks, purposefully taunting Gray. I snap around in surprise. NO! All of my hard work!

"I wouldn't know, somebody stole my food," Gray says, venom dripping from his voice. NO, not you too!

"Well that sucks for you Ice-stripper," Natsu says provokingly, thought there was an undertone of real hostility in his voice. That's weird, Even though Natsu often taunts Gray into fights; there has never been any true anger in his before. They usually fight just to fight, not to actually vent anger. This is unprecedented and this is bad.

Natsu is actually serious. When Natsu is serious he doesn't hold back and things always get destroyed. I have to think fast if I want to prevent the guild from being destroyed yet again.

"Gray, I think I can see Juvia looking at you," I say, pointedly looking behind him to where she is hiding behind a pillar, covered in shadows all the way across the guild. Even from here I can hear her depressed mutters.

Even though he won't admit it, I know that he likes her. I can see it from the way he puts up with her and the way he looks at her when he thinks nobody is watching. To a trained observer like me, it is really too easy to see.

As expected, his head snaps to look behind him. As he does this, I grab Natsu's hand, which is burning hot by the way, and hurriedly pull him out of the guild. He follows without any resistance, and we soon arrive at my apartment. I quickly glance behind us to make sure Gray wasn't following us, before I roughly pull Natsu in and lock the door behind me.

I slowly turn to face Natsu, with murder in my eyes. I am absolutely livid right not. My peaceful day is ruined, and I had to physically exert myself!

I glare at him but all he does is innocently stare back at me. I scoff.

"What the hell was that?" I ask, not bothering to keep the sharp spike out of my voice. I hope it stabs him right in the heart.

"What do you mean," he asks with mock innocence. Well, if that was the way he wanted to play . . .

"I don't know," I say sarcastically. "Maybe you display of open hostility. How many times have I told you not to fight with Gray?" I ask rhetorically. "HUH! HUH! Why did you try to start a fight?" I ask, and he remains silent so I try again. "Answer me!"

He looks at me intently; searching my face for Kami knows what. The expression on his face is a mixture of disappointment and amusement.

"You weren't paying any attention to me," he says like a whining child.

I look at him shocked. He was trying to start a fight just for that! Is he insane! Does he want me to kill him! "Excuse me?" I ask incredulously, hoping I heard him wrong.

"You weren't paying attention to me," he repeats indigently.

"You're kidding me, right?" I fume.

"No," he says simply, as if he is being completely rational.

"Are you okay," I go up to him and check his temperature. It's high, but no more that usual.

"Lucy," he whines.

I give him a light smack to the back of the head.

"Ow! What was that for?" he complains, being over dramatic. If he wants pain, I can give him some real pain.

"For being an idiot," I scold him.

"But Lucy," he starts.

"Don't you 'but Lucy' me! I don't want to hear it." I say strictly then continue. "You know how I feel about you and Gray fighting and you disregarded it. I know you; you would have demolished the guild if I have not intervened." I say harshly.

He stares sullenly down at the ground in response.

"Promise me you won't pick a fight with Gray again." I demand.

"But -," he objects.

"Promise," I demand.

He pouts at me. "Only if you promise not to talk to Gray again." He says.

What the hell does that mean? "No, I will talk to Gray whenever I want to," I respond.

"But he annoys me. You should be on my side talking to me instead," he complains.

I feel a headache starting to blossom in my head.

"Stop being a baby. I can and will talk to Gray whenever I want to and you will have to deal with that," I say forcefully.

Natsu looks at me upset, but I am past the point of caring.

"Now promise me," I demand again.

He takes a moment to respond, but finally spits out a reluctant 'fine'.

I smile in response and then go to the kitchen to make us some food. Just as bad behavior should go punished, good behavior should be rewarded. I am sure that his favorite meal will somehow make him feel better.

The poor dragon, forced to watch his love talk to his enemy in a friendly manner! Oh, how jealousy was eating away at him. The bunny is not allowed to talk to other male animals, especially the ones with habits of stripping. And there was no way he would ever allow her to ignore him. He refused to exist in a world where she could ignore him. The bunny didn't know this, but as soon as she turned her back to go to the kitchen, a huge smile stole over the dragons face. His mission had been completed, not only had he gotten her away from the stripper, but he now has her full attention on him. How clever he is. Maybe one of these days the bunny will stop falling for all of his tricks.
