I'm sorry, I'm a horrible person and haven't updated until now. I've had my reasons, but in the end, they are still excuses.
I hope you enjoy it!

Chapter 22
The Book of Dragon Slayer Mates
"Ow, OWW, Levy!" I cry out. Her nails dig into my skin as she roughly drags me out of the guide, all the way to her apartment in Fairy Hills. She is surprisingly strong for such a small shrimp of a girl. Hahaha, Gageel would have been so proud of me if he had heard my last thought.
She doesn't respond but just pulls me steadily along until we are both seated in her bed.
She is literally bouncing with some pent-up excitement that is just leaking out all over the place. She honestly looks like he is about to explode. Her eyes are gigantic and a huge smile seems to be a permanent fixture on her face. I have never seen her so happy. Her smile is infectious and I find myself unconsciously mirroring her smile.
"He finally did it," she bursts out.
"What?" I ask, completely confused.
"He finally made a move," She said as if that said it all, and I guess in a way, it did.
"Gajeel?" I ask hesitantly, although I was almost positive about the answer. There was no way she would be this excited if anyone else asked her out. I mean, Jet and Droy both try to ask her out almost daily and the only emotional response I have seen from those confessions is annoyance. No, this must be something she has been hoping for, and there is only one person who Levy has allowed herself to fall in love with.
"Yes! Last night, he walked me home from the guide! It was so romantic! He walked close to me, walking slowly and not letting his long legs leave me behind as they so often do. Although he teased me like he normally does, I was still on cloud nine. Then when we reached the outside of the building, I thought he was just going to say goodbye and walk off. I mean, I had already hit my happiness limit for the day, I didn't think I was allowed even more happiness."
"He didn't walk away though! He paused a moment, as if gathering his courage, but then he told me he has had feelings for me for a while!" she exclaims.
"What did you say in response?" I asked though I felt I already knew the answer.
"I told him I might potentially share his sentiments," She said with a teasing glint in her eyes.
I laughed. "Oh Levy, you sly woman," I said.
"I think the joke went right over his head and all he heard was 'I like you too,' for he scooped me up, yanking me right off the ground up to his height, and spun me around whooping in joy."
"That's great,' I say, so excited for her.
At least one of us gets to be happy with her love life. At least one of us has our feelings reciprocated. I know that sounds slightly sarcastic, and as if I'm not truly happy for her, but I am. I truly am. Seeing other people happy in love might make me feel slightly bittersweet, but it mostly just makes me feel happy and hopeful. Especially when it is for someone as deserving as Levy.
"That's not all, he asked me out with the intention to mate me!" She practically sighs out the sentence, as if it holds all the meaning in the world. A meaning that goes right over my head.
"Mate?" I asked confused. I have heard the term before, but only in reference to animals. Oddly enough, despite the way I ferociously devour books, have not really encountered that term.
She smiled wickedly at me. "Yes, mate. I think it is a term you will have to get familiar with," She says with a glint in her eyes.
Mine narrow in response. "And why is that," I ask, challenging her.
"You may think you are good at hiding your feelings, but I happen to know for a fact that I am not the only person in love with a dragon slayer," she insinuates with a knowing look.
I blush and my default reaction kicks in: denial. "I don't know what you are talking about."
"Of course, you don't," she says sarcastically, fighting back a smile. I scowl at her in response.
She hops off her bed and goes to her enormous bookcase. She looks at the stacks for a minute before she finally pulls one out and returns.
The book is rather archaic looking. It's a thick brown leather tomb with yellowing pages that look as if they could disintegrate at any moment. I love books like these the most. They are so beautiful, albeit in an antique sort of way.
She gives the book to me. "Read this when you go home. Trust me, you need to know this information," She insists.
I take the book from her with the utmost care. It feels so delicate, yet it gives off a feeling of silent strength, like what in it is what makes it powerful. I'm smitten in awe and I haven't even opened the book yet.
I hang with Levy for a little longer before I head back to my apartment, book in my arms, still unread.
When I finally reach my apartment, I grab a quick bite to eat, noticing in the back of my head that I have to go grocery shopping again because my two idiots have already emptied my pantry. I guess I should be thankful they left just enough for me to eat. I head over and plop onto my, thankfully empty, bed. I stare at the book for a while, just taking it in, not daring to open it. I have no clue what lies within its yellowed pages, but they fill me with an ominous feeling. I feel that what I will read will . . .what? Change my life? Clarify things? I don't know but I have the strangest feeling that something will change.
Opening it gently, so as not to accidentally rip the aged paper, I start reading.
Dragonslayers, although still human, develop many traits from their dragon counterparts. Instinct-wise, they are more dragon than human. These traits are not imminently noticeable unless their emotions are provoked. Or if they find their mate.
'Mate.' That is the term Levy used earlier.
To dragon slayer, a mate is a lifelong partner, equivalent to marriage, except there is no divorce. Once a dragon slayer finds their mate, there is no going back. They can only love and mate with one person. This person becomes the most important person in the world to them, their hoard, their treasure. If a dragon slayer's mate ever died, they would quickly be driven insane from grief and would not last long.
While mating habits and behaviors differ depending on what type of dragon slayer they are, the core is essentially the same. They are extremely possessive and prone to excessive jealousy. They will scent mark the female by constantly being in their immediate presence and by being physically affectionate. They will constantly seek out their mate's scent and will desire to be with their mate as much as possible. Physical distance for long periods of time is painful to them and can potentially drive them to depression and onset insanity.
Dragon slayers are cunning creatures and systematically plan to entice and capture their mate as they would their prey. All of their actions are planned with the intention of acquiring their mate. They are also deceptively intelligent, the mate is unlikely to know that this process is occurring; they are very subtle. Above all, they are very protective of their mates. They will go to extreme lengths to protect their mates, to the point of appearing controlling. If the mate is in danger, the dragon slayer will not stop until they eliminate the source of danger.
—-Skip a couple of pages to the section describing Fire Dragons.
Fire dragon slayers are known to be extremely passionate and full of energy. They go through life pulsating with energy and putting their all into everything that interests them. They are prone to having a fiery temperament. They go through life like a ticking bomb until they find their mate. At that point, their fire simmers a bit and becomes more steady. They are still full of energy, but lose their temper mostly, except for when it comes to their mate.
Fire dragon slayers are ruled by actions instead of words. When they find their mate, often the mate will be unaware that she is being pursued because their behavior will seem to remain unchanged. They, like other dragon slayers, enjoy the chase and playing with their prey. They are sneaky playful creatures, they will use their abundant energy to pretend that nothing has changed. They will slowly invade themselves into their mates life until they are fully integrated and an irrevocable part of it. Only when they feel their prey is already captured will they reveal their true intentions. They do this both consciously and subconsciously.
If you know a fire dragon who clings to your side more than anyone else, beware!
I slowly close the book and try to take in what I just read.
Well, I think I understand what a mate is.
There is no way Natsu is like what was described. He is too stupid to be calculating. It's impossible.
Images flash before my eyes, all of Natsu's actions towards me suddenly pop into my mind, and are now open to a new interpretation. Everything he's ever done can be viewed in a new light.
I shake the images out of my head quickly. There is no way. Natsu is Natsu, stupid guileless Natsu.
"Yo, Lucy," says a familiar voice and I scream in surprise.
"Ahh, Natsu, you scared me," I say, scolding him, trying to catch my lost breath and slow my racing heart.
"Sorry," he said unapologetically.
Feeling the book, heavy in my hands, I get up quickly and place it on my bookshelf. Then I go back to the bed and try to draw attention away from the book desperately. I can only imagine what would happen if it caught his attention.
"Why are you here?" I ask.
"You weren't in the guide today." He says as if that explains everything.
"I was with Levy," I say. It's not like I go to the guide every day.
"Oh." He responds.
"That doesn't explain why you are here," I counter.
"Yeah . . Happy is with Carla today and I'm lonely," he says slowly.
"Why don't you just hang out at the guide?" I ask, still thinking of the book.
"I'm tired," he says. Then, before I can say anything, he hops onto the bed and lays down, closing his eyes.
"Get off my bed," I shriek. "If you want to sleep, go home and sleep in your own bed"
"No . . . energy," he mumbles.
"Natsu!" I yell, shaking him.
"Sleep," He mumbles and his breath even out.
He's already asleep.
I leave him alone and watch him while I think about what I read.
There is no way Natsu could be so devious. He is too simple-minded, too innocent, and honest. No, this book is wrong about Natsu. Natsu is different. He is the exception. Plus, I highly doubt he has found his mate yet. I doubt he even knows what a female is besides a guide mate. No, Natsu is still Natsu.
Satisfied with my conclusion, I lay back down on my bed and quickly drift to sleep. My last thought before I drift off into a blissful, dreamless sleep . . .there is no way, right?
If only the bunny would finally realize that the dragon isn't as innocent as he pretends to be. Everything the book described was a hundred percent accurate. The predator has locked onto his prey and he won't let it go now. The dragon just wants to be in his bunny's presence, there is no way he would fall asleep that quickly . . . unless he was pretending. I wonder what the dragon is doing now that the bunny is sleeping?
I hope you enjoyed it!
