On a warm afternoon in the dorm room in Beacon, the members of the team RWBY were relaxing in their room after a long day of class and training, but for one of the girls, there was one thing on her mind.
"I'm bored," said Ruby, lying on her bed.
"Then why don't you study? That'll keep you from being bored," said Weiss, looking over her notes.
"That sounds like the opposite of fun, Weiss."
"How about a little more training with your sis?" said Yang giving a wink.
"Um, no,"
"Okay, how about reading one of Blake's books?"
Blake blushed a little and quickly closed her book. "I don't think Ruby would like any of my books."
"Yeah, she's right. I'm not really into romance stuff," said Ruby, then she sat up. "I wish something cool would happen."
Yang opens the door to see a box in front of it. It says, "out of this world videogames." Yang snatched the box and carried it into the dorm room.
"Look what I've found," said Yang.
Ruby sees the box with the word "video games," and she gets excited. "Oh my Ohm, my wish did come true. Something cool did happen." Ruby walked toward Yang, holding the box.
"Where did it come from?" said Weiss, putting down her note.
"It doesn't have an address on it or a name," said Yang.
Yang sets the box on a table and opens it up to reveal a black and white video game console with a bunch of games next to it.
"Hm interesting," said Blake.
"So are we going to try to play some of these games?" said Ruby.
"How about no, we don't know if this is a prank," Weiss suggested.
"Weiss, why would anyone go this far to prank us of all people?" said Yang, taking the console out.
Blake notices a note when Yang takes the game system out. She grabs it and reads out loud, "I hope you guys enjoy these video games and remember to have fun."
"see nothing to worry about,"
Much to Weiss's dismay, Ruby and Yang hook up the console to the TV and turn both the TV and the system on.
"Great, now let's pick a game and play it," said Yang.
Ruby goes to the box to see the various games that range from fantasy to sci-fi to horror. But one of the games caught her eye, and she grabbed it.
"How about this game, Sunset Overdrive?" Ruby suggested, holding the game, which featured a man holding a strange weapon in front of a city filled with other people and strange-looking monsters.
"That game looks exciting," said Yang.
Weiss and Blake look at the cover.
"It looks juvenile," said Weiss.
"Looks crazy," said Blake.
Ruby, the open video game case, to see if it was a disk "Huh retro," she says, handing the game to Yang.
"I guess this game system is kind of like a DVD player," said Yang.
As Yang pops the disk into the game console, everyone grabs something to sit on. The game pops up on the screen, and Yang presses the A button on the controller, and the game starts. Then they see a glimpse of what the game is going to be like, with various characters in crazy outfits killing or running away from hordes of weird-looking monsters until they reach the menu.
"Wow, I wonder what the story of this game is?" said Yang.
"Did you see that cool sword that guy was swinging around? Where do we get that in the game?" said Ruby.
"I get the feeling that this game is going to be gory," said Weiss.
Blake picks up the game case and sees the game rating "well does say it for a mature audience."
"And I say we're mature enough for this game," said Yang.
"You're half right on that."
Yang presses A for a new game, then they come to the brightness scale, and Yang leaves the scale alone. The screen then changed to a male wearing work clothes, and to the right were the various body types, ranging from a small female to a large male.
"Awesome, we can create our own characters," said Ruby.
"So what type of body do we want for our character?" said Yang.
"I say we go with the female body type that is taller," said Blake.
"I agree with that," Weiss said.
"Me too," said Ruby,
"Alright then," Yang selected the second body type.
Then the game made a close-up of their character's face, now to the right of the screen, with 18 preset faces.
"Huh, what face do we like?" said Yang.
"Um," Ruby looks at the faces, then sees one she likes. "How about the first face on the fifth row?"
"I'm okay with it," said Weiss.
"Same," said Blake.
"Got it," Yang picked the face everyone wanted
Then the right side of the screen changes from faces to hair, where they can select different hairstyles.
"Sweet, I wonder if they have my hairstyle in the game?" said Yang.
"Probably not," said Weiss.
The team looked at the many different hairstyles that were on the list.
"So what do you guys think?" asked Yang.
"I say we should go with the wave. It looks pretty good," said Blake.
"I think pigtails look great," said Ruby.
"No, we should go with the faux style," said Weiss.
"Okay, about this. What number? I'm thinking between 1 and 20. The closet number, I'm thinking, then I'm picking that hair style," said Yang.
"15," said Blake.
"7," said Weiss.
"11," said Ruby,
"The number was 19, so we're going with the Blake hairstyle," Yang selects it.
"Aw man," said Ruby
Then the right screen changes into hair colors that have a hair color base and a hair color highlight.
"Oh, about giving her blue hair and white highlights," said Ruby.
"Why?" said Weiss.
"Because it would look cool on her."
"I could see that," said Blake.
"Yeah, I think it would look cool," said Yang.
"Fine," said Weiss.
Yang selects the blue base color and adds a white highlight. Then they go to facial hair.
"So facial hair?" said Yang.
"No," Ruby, Blake, and Weiss said in unison.
Yang shrugs, and they go to the eye colors.
"Hm, I think we should have black eyes," said Blake.
"What about those cool X eyes?" said Ruby.
"No, those are too weird and unnatural," said Weiss.
"Fine with me," said Yang, selecting the black eye color.
Then the character creation was done, with one last message about a filter for bad language and gore. The game was about to begin.
(Author note: I kinda try this story because not a lot of people write stories with character play games where you create your own characters so I want to give it a with this story)
