Cheeks of Glitter
Chapter Ten
The week went by so fast, and it was because Stan was enjoying his time with Heidi outside of class. However, they barely showed themselves together in front of anyone. The two decided to keep their relationship a secret, even if there wasn't much going on. They never held hands or any other physical content.
In fact, the only time Stan and Heidi spent time together was after school. They never ate lunch together, with the extent of sharing looks across the cafeteria. Spending time at recess was completely forbidden according to them, with an exception of the first time Stan pushed Heidi on the swing.
Getting together with somebody for romantic interests in upper grade schools usually happened so naturally and instantly. Most adults would find that it was easier for them. Although, that wasn't always the case.
Stan's heart always leaped with joy just at the thought of Heidi. Heidi constantly giggled when she saw him share glances with her. It was a shame they had to keep it a secret, but they knew it was for the best.
Eric Cartman was the main problem. After his recent actions at the animal shelter, Heidi decided it would be best to keep her new relationship with Stan hidden until Eric completely got over his emotions. Stan dreaded that, but he agreed. In fact, he stayed way from the gymnasium while Heidi practiced cheerleading as well.
Not even Kyle knew, although it was mostly because Stan hadn't seen him all week. He fought back on asking to hang out with him or to have a discussion with him so he could rest and heal.
When Saturday came, Stan met up with Heidi at the arcade after her volunteer work at the shelter. It was mid afternoon, and Stan told his parents that he was hanging out with Kenny. They didn't question him.
The first thing Stan showed Heidi was a shooter game, which was one of the boy's favorite games. "It's multiplayer," he began as he picked up one of the guns. He handed Heidi the other, expecting her to follow his every step. Of course, Stan knew that Heidi wouldn't do anything violent, but he still wanted to teach her the fun of fake-shooting aliens.
Stan pushed the start button, which made the main menu pop up on the screen. "Are you ready?"
"I don't know what to do," Heidi said before giggling cutely. She wasn't even holding the gun right, which Stan instantly corrected for her, and began to explain the game.
The enemies soon popped up on the screen, and Stan began to shoot them one by one. Heidi did her best, missing almost every target. "You got this!" Stan said.
Heidi didn't stop. "Oh, I got one!" she let out with glee. The game went on for another ten seconds, and when it ended, the two put their guns back and faced eachother. "I'm glad they weren't animals," Heidi said.
"Oh, don't worry, I wouldn't do that," Stan said before leading her up to Guitar Hero. He went solo on that one, since Heidi admitted that it was something that was far from possible for her to do.
However, the girl sat comfortably in a seat while watching Stan hit every button the screen. He was playing so perfectly that Heidi could picture him in on a real stage with a real guitar. It made her gaze upon him as her stomach flipped with joy.
Their time didn't there, though. Stan decided to take Heidi to Stark's Pond, which was a very famous place in South Park. The boy often went there when he wanted to be alone or had a lot on his mind. However, it was also a time for socialization, hookups, and the start of something new approaching.
"I like Stark's Pond," Heidi said happily as she and Stan arrived. They gazed upon the pond, which was iceless due to the spring weather. At winter, the children often skated across the water while it was ice-solid.
Stan remembered Wendy being a fairy well ice-skater, during leaps and twirls, and it was something that the boy had often gazed about whenever he would see her. "Me too," Stan said. He was no longer heart-broken at the thought of his ex-girlfriend, because he had something new now. Someone.
The two sat at the bench that was in front of the pond, and gaped at it with awe. There were silent as the wind blew by, making the branches of the pine trees sway soothingly. Heidi shut her eyes and admired her surroundings.
Stan watched her briefly, then peered ahead where he could see the mountains in the distance. It was a beautiful sight, and he was glad he brought Heidi.
"Listen to the birds," Heidi said before opening her eyes, which were glowing with joy. "You love animals, right Stan?"
Stan jerked his head over to her, finding that question strange. He knew that it would be unusual for somebody to hate animals while helping a poor dog. What was her reasoning?
"I'm just asking," Heidi said as if she read his thoughts, "because I know the things you have done to help them."
Stan nodded in understanding. It was clear that the girl was just confirming the fact with them. Although, Stan knew there was no need for questioning. "Yeah, of course I love animals," he said. "I'd do anything for them." He meant that, cutting out the exception of PETA, which he had once encountered in his time.
"Hey, would you like to go vegan with me? I mean, I already am vegan. But, would you like to start?"
Stan bit his lip hesitantly. He remember trying that once before, and it ended with him going into hives. His body did not cope with a meatless diet. However, seeing the pleading look on the girl's face made him consider it.
"Not just good for the animals," Heidi added, "but it's also good for our health too." She glanced back at the pond, waiting for the boy's answer. She couldn't stop thinking about the times she tried to get Eric to go vegan with her while the two were dating. He refused every time, and some how it scared her for Stan to decline. Still, she wanted to ask, because it was something they could have a connection with.
"Sure, I'll give it a go," Stan replied with a grin. He decided to keep it to himself about his passed experience with food that did not include meat. He did not want to worry her, and he did not want to disappoint her. And she's right, he thought. It's healthy. I need to better myself mentally and physically.
Heidi hugged Stan suddenly, and it surprised him. He wasn't sure why, but he felt her heart beating fast, and he wondered if something was wrong. He didn't pry because he knew that he had made the girl happy.
Then one thought approached Stan, and that was the possibility of sharing a kiss with her. It made him nervous, but he didn't feel sick like he had in the past with Wendy. He stared at Heidi, who was smiling brightly at him, but waited for nothing more. It never occurred to Stan that he should make the first move, especially since he had never done it before with Wendy.
"Hey, let's race over to that tree," Heidi said as she pointed to the left. She leaped off the bench, and without waiting for the boy's response, dashed off.
Stan was caught off guard at her sudden actions, and it took him a couple seconds to come to his senses and take off after her. "Hey, wait up!"
"No!" Heidi giggled loudly, not looking back as she kept her eyes on the tree head. However, she could picture Stan approaching her, and soon appearing at her side. When she turned to her side, Stan was next to her with a smirk on his face.
The smirk looked more like a face of bravery to Heidi. In slow motion, Stan was a handsome prince, or a knight. She felt like she was in a fairytale.
In seconds, Stan made a sudden trip, forcing him to accidentally jump her. The two fell into a field of pink flowers, and they could instantly smell their blossoming aroma.
Heidi rolled over a few feet, and Stan lay face down in the grass. As the girl sat up, she noticed that he wasn't moving, and that concerned her. "Stan, are you okay?"
The boy slowly peered up, and his face was covered in dirt. He nodded before coughing briefly. "Yeah."
Heidi cackled and purposely fell back into the flowers. She lay on her back and continued to laugh happily.
Stan felt warm, seeing Heidi's happiness, and hearing her cheer. He didn't want that to go away. He didn't want anything to change because the girl was happy after being miserable for so long. Not only that, but she made him happy, too.
I will try to update soon!
