"Goodnight honey," Eddie said softly, pressing a gentle kiss to her nine month old daughter's cheek as she laid her in her crib. Grace stirred for a moment before finally relaxing when Eddie ran a hand over her head.

She stayed in the nursery for a few minutes to make sure the little one was truly asleep before quietly making her way out and shutting the door. She walked into the kitchen and checked her phone to see a message from Jamie, who said that he was finally on his way home.

Eddie had the day off so she took Grace for a regular doctor's checkup, had lunch with Henry before making her midweek stop to the grocery store to grab a few things they needed. It was there when she came face to face with a pregnancy test that it occurred to her. She was late, not just a few days but almost two weeks if she calculated correctly. Her menstrual cycle was pretty normal so there was only one reason she could think of as to why she hadn't started yet.

Jamie and Eddie always knew that they wanted another baby but not so soon. She let out a sigh as she grabbed the test and placed it in the cart next to Grace, who stared at it curiously before going back to playing with the toy in her hand.

She's grateful that she has the ability to be pregnant because she knows that there's people out there who unfortunately can't. But, she wasn't sure if she was ready to go through that again, especially when she already did it not even a year ago. She wanted more time with Grace, who was still so young and needed her.

Suddenly, she heard the front door of their apartment open, breaking her out of her trance.

"I'm here," Jamie announced. Then, he frowned as he looked around the living room. "I missed her, didn't I?"

Eddie gave a sad smile as she walked over and hugged him, "Yeah, you did. She was falling asleep when I was giving her a bath. I put her down like ten minutes ago."

"Damn," he replied with a frown. He leaned down and gave her a kiss. "I'm going to peek in on her really quick then change my clothes."

She nodded, "I'll heat up the dinner. I still haven't eaten yet."

A few minutes later, she heard him call out from their bedroom.

"Ed, can you come here for a second?" he said.

"Coming," she replied. She turned off the stove and walked over to their bedroom. She walked in to find Jamie shirtless, holding the pregnancy test that she had bought earlier in the day in his hands.

"When'd you get this?" he asked curiously.

"When I went to the store today," she answered. She walked over and took it from him. "Why were you looking through my stuff?"

"I'm sorry that I did but I couldn't find any of my comfy shirts so I looked through your stash of them in the back of the closet."

She gave a small smile. His shirts made better sleepwear than any of her things.

"So you are?" he continued. "Or you think you are?"

"Yeah. I'm late… almost two weeks now." She tried to gauge the look on his face. "What are you thinking?"

"I mean… it would be great if you were. But I wasn't expecting it this soon."

"Me neither."

Jamie stared at her for a long minute before walking over, taking the test out of her hands and throwing it onto the bed. Then, he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into him.

"Don't get me wrong," she said quietly, wrapping her arms around him as she laid her head on his chest. "I want another baby. I really do. But I'm not sure if I'm ready to do it all again right now. Grace is only nine months old."

"I know," he sympathized.

"She still needs me… well us," she corrected. "I wanted a few years as a parent under my belt before we did it again."

"I feel the same way," he replied, rubbing soothing circles on her back. "But… you need to take the test first, Ed. There's no use of you worrying like this right now before knowing for sure."

"Yeah… but I can't help it."

He kissed her forehead. "If you are, then we'll deal with it like we did with Grace. Remember? She was a surprise… but the best surprise of course. If you're not, then that's okay too. It means that it's not meant to be just yet."

"Yeah."

"Do you want to take it now to or wait?" he asked.

"I think I'll take it now," she responded, picking up the test off the bed. "I don't think I can't sit through dinner with this on my mind."

He nodded and took a seat on the bed as she went into the bathroom. It was a long few minutes before Jamie got up and knocked on the door.

"You okay?"

There was a quiet moment before she responded, "Yeah. Come on in."

He opened the door and was immediately greeted by Eddie, holding out the test to him.

"What does this mean?" he asked, taking the test from her and trying to make sense of the lines in front of him.

"Negative," she said.

Jamie stood for a long minute trying to read the look on her face. There seemed to be some relief but he could see a bit of sadness as well.

He put the test down on the counter, "Come here."

She walked into his outstretched arms. He kissed the top of her head and wrapped his arms around her.

"How do you feel?" he asked.

"I'm okay. A little bit of me did want a baby but I know it's for the best right now. I want to enjoy the baby we have. She needs us the most. And I don't know how we would've dealt with two kids under two and still in diapers."

Jamie comically shuddered at the thought, "Yeah. I don't know how we would've managed that either."

Eddie just laughed and smacked his chest at his reaction.

"Well... no baby yet," he said. Then, he wrapped his arms low around her waist. "But in the meantime, we can keep practicing making a baby without making one."

She jokingly rolled her eyes as she playfully pushed him away, "Of course you would think that. You want dinner now?"

"Let me finish changing first. I'll meet you out there," he replied.

As she walked out of the bedroom, he called out to her.

"Hey Ed?"

She turned around, "Yeah?"

"Even though it won't be for some time, I can't wait to have another baby with you."

Eddie gave a gentle smile, "Me too."

I will happily take fic ideas if anyone has any :)
