Caroline looked around at the group, everyone unsure of what to do. She sighed before glancing at Grams. "Can you conjure or I don't know, summon a couple of blankets and pillows?" She asked the dead witch.
The old woman smiled, before raising her hand in a come here motion, causing the doors to the room to burst open and multiple comforters and pillows glide in with a gust of wind. "This should be enough for what you have planned?" She asked, nodding towards the little pile that had formed in the center of the room.
Klaus recognised them as some of the blankets and pillows that were spread out through the various guest bedrooms. He glared at the witch as his wolf raised up possibly, wanting to snap her neck for laying his possessions on the ground like that. At least she was smart enough to leave the ones in his bedroom alone.
Caroline quickly snapped out of it and began spreading the blankets onto the ground, and scattering them around. Bonnie instantly caught onto what she was doing and followed her lead.
Normally the hybrid would have killed anyone else who had even thought of throwing his things onto the floor and spreading them around like cheap, common items. But he couldn't help but find the blond adorable as she moved things around to ensure everything was covered and creating a cozy little nest.
Once Caroline was done spreading the blankets and pillows on the ground, Bonnie chose to sit down on a corner, near the fireplace.
Katherine, despite the blankets, refused to sit on the ground, but still grabbed a blanket, before sitting down on the 'L' shaped couch, that was closest to the exit. She folded her legs to the side, and spread the blanket over it, to hide the wooden stake she had pulled out from underneath black jeans. Ready to defend herself at a moment's notice. If what the witch said is true, then it wouldn't kill anyone. But it would buy her some time.
Elijah, choose to sit down next to her.
Finn, still not fully used to the modern inventions, found more comfort on the ground, which was covered in blankets, as it reminded him of his childhood.
Sage sat down next to him.
Caroline plopped down next to Bonnie, putting her in the center of the little gathering. She plopped a pillow - one that was instantly promoted to Klaus favorite pillow - onto her lap horizontally; and rested her elbows on it.
Klaus chose the armchair closest to Caroline, that let him keep an eye on the blond, and see everything else that was going on in the room. He didn't trust more than half the people here, and wanted to be ready to grab her and pull her out of harm's way at a moment's notice.
Kol, choose a mix of the two, and choose to bring in a bean bag instead
Elena takes the armchair on the other side of the 'L' shaped couch, the furthest she could get from Klaus. Well Stefan and Damon take pillows and sit down next to her, like little guard dogs that thought they could protect her from the big bad wolf.
Rebrekah throws a longing look at Caroline and Bonnie, huddled together on the ground like little girls on a sleepover, but chooses to sit on her brother, Elijah's, other side.
Klaus glanced around, before his eyes returned to the blond in the center. In just minutes she had changed the aura from the room from complete mistrust, to a tolerable amount of the tension.
Damon was in his bed when he heard Elijah downstairs with Elena and Stefan. He gets up, goes downstairs to join them.
"Tonight is the full moon. We should assume that Klaus is prepared to break the curse." Elijah told the two.
"Elena said that the Sun and the Moon curse is fake?" Stefan asked, "That it's actually just a curse placed on Klaus."
"Klaus is a vampire born of a werewolf bloodline. The curse has kept his werewolf aspect from manifesting. But if he breaks it...He'll be a true hybrid." Elijah, still standing up, tried to explain to the group what exactly they were dealing with, and how they couldn't afford to get cocky.
Just then, Damon came into the room. "Then why are we letting him break the curse? We can kill him today. With Bonnie."
"Damon…" Stefan tried to protest, but was cut off by Elena.
"No. Bonnie can't use that much power without dying." She answered.
Kol rolls his eyes, "God your stupid."
The original ignored the doppelganger's cry, but turned around when he heard Bonnie ask, "What do you mean?"
"Well it was a Bennett witch that helped create the spell that resulted in vampires. And that isn't even their greatest achievement. So I suggest never underestimating a Bennett witch."
"I'll write her a great eulogy." Damon said, carelessly.
The baby vampire's fist clenched, as she resisted the urge to slam it into Damon's face. Klaus, who kept glancing at her since this whole thing started, couldn't help but notice the reaction, and noted it down as something to remember for later.
Elena shakes her head, "It's not an option, Damon."
Stefan, who was still only mostly concerned about Elena, tries to steer the topic back to the sacrifice. "All right, how do we break this curse?"
"Well, the ritual itself is relatively straightforward." Elijah nods, "The ingredients, so to speak, you already know."
"The moonstone." Stefan pipes up.
"A witch will channel the power of the full moon to release the spell that's bound within the stone. After that, Klaus, being both werewolf and vampire, will sacrifice one of each." Elijah explains.
Katherine hums, a cheshire grin appearing on her face at the mention of the moonstone, and the witch who performed the spell. "You were pretty cozy with Greta weren't you." She smirks, ignoring the warning tug that Elijah gave her.
Klaus glared at her, "I'm sure you also remember what I compelled you to do, don't you. Would you like a repeat?"
"What did you compel her to do?" Caroline asked, her eyes narrowing.
Klaus turned to see the blond giving him a cold look, one that threatens any and all progress he had with her.
Luckily, the original was saved having to answer her question, when Damon opened his mouth. "Really? It was pretty obvious that she was just an obsessive witch who wanted to get into the big bads bed."
Remembering Caroline's reaction to the sire bond, Klaus was more than happy to take Damon's distraction and turned his attention towards the Salvatore. "I'd watch it mate."
"Please, the witch clearly just wanted bragging rights. Basically what you want from blondi-"
Before the man could finish his sentence, Klaus had ripped out his heart.
Elena let out a scream, causing the younger two Mikaelson's to laugh at her reaction, well Elijah sighed at his brother's actions.
Klaus casually wiped his hand on a napkin a maid provided, before shrugging. "What, this is a good way to find out if what the witches said is true. If he comes back, they were telling the truth. If he doesn't, well I say good riddance." He smirked.
As Caroline stared at Damon's dead body, she couldn't help but smile. She'd have to agree with Klaus with this one. If Damon really didn't come back, she certainly wouldn't be complaining.
"And where do I fit into it?" Elena asks, still not getting it.
"The final part of the ritual." Elijah answers, taking a wooden box from the shelf. "Klaus must drink the blood of the doppelgänger...to the point of your death."
At this news, Stefan covers his hand, well grabbing Elena's hand blindly. His eyes were covered so he couldn't see the look his girlfriend and brother shared.
As he saw this shared exchange, Stefan couldn't help but gulp with a heavy heart, as he finally began to see what had truly been going on between his brother and girlfriend.
"And that's where you come in." Elena gulps.
Elijah flips open the lid of the box and pulls an old bottle out from within it. "This is an elixir that I acquired some 500 years ago for Katerina. It possesses mystical properties of resuscitation."
Katherine smirked at Elena, "Even your saving grace was a hand me down from me. You really need to find something original." She taunts, causing the other doppelganger to glare at her.
But she was unable to argue it with anything, because it was true.
Stefan took an interest in her because she shared Katherine's face.
Damon wasn't even interested in her until he found out what Katherine was really like, and even then if she continued to sprout the same lines, he would gladly choose to believe them and once again chase after her.
Elijah had the elixir made for Katherine, not Elena.
Caroline glanced between the two, an odd feeling blooming in her chest. She wanted to deny it… but was she… happy?
Was she happy that Elena finally knew what it felt like to be in her place. To be the second choice for everyone.
'Well not everyone, she couldn't help but think, glancing at Klaus from the corner of her eye.
"So I'll be dead?" Elena asks, still not able to move past her murder, and to her resurrection.
"And then you won't." Elijah told her firmly.
"That's your plan? A magical witch potion with no expiration date?" Damon asked angrily, he then looked at Elena. "You want to come back to life, what about John's ring?"
"Those rings only work on humans." Elijah reminded them. "The doppelgänger's a supernatural occurrence. Odds are, the ring won't work."
Kol nods, "Of course the ring wouldn't work on her. She's a doppelganger. She isn't exactly as 'human' as she preeches herself to be. Plus, aren't all doppelgangers monsters in disguise of a pretty face Elijah's in love with."
"I always thought they were bitches in disguise." Rebekah comments, "But then again, doppelbitch 1.0, and 2.0 never bothered to hide it."
"I'll take those odds over your elixir." Damon said, still doubting the vampire with centuries on him. "What if it doesn't work, Elena?"
"Then I guess I'll just be dead." Elena answered, choosing to put her life in the hands of the stronger vampire.
Damon looks at Stefan, who shrugs. Damon shoots one final glare at Elijah before he leaves, intending to take matters into his own hands.
"Do we know if Klaus has everything he needs to do this? Does he have a werewolf?" Elena asked.
Elijah nodded, "Klaus has been waiting to break this curse for over a thousand years. If he doesn't already have a werewolf, my guess is by tonight, he will."
In the Lockwood Mansion Carol was climbing up the stairs, well trying to contact her son.
When he didn't pick up, she left a voicemail. "Tyler, honey. It's your mother. I don't know where you are, but I need you. I've had an accident and I'm in the hospital."
She reached the top of the stairs to see a man waiting there. He was mouthing the words the woman was speaking, using magic to have her repeat them.
"Please, Tyler, come home." The woman said shakily, before hanging up. She looks at the man, confused. "Why did I say that?"
"Because you had a terrible fall." Maddox answers, before pushing her down the stairs with a blast of magic.
As the woman tumbles down the steps, the witch stares on, a small smirk appearing on his face as he doesn't even flinch as the uncenouse woman hits the ground.
Back at the boarding house, Damon was outside, drinking scotch.
"Breakfast of champions, huh?" Stefan asks, coming up next to him.
Damon, without even looking at his younger brother, replied, "I'm surrounded by idiots. I need all the help I can get."
"You know, you're not helping." Stefan told him.
"Elijah is an original vampire, Stefan." Damon scoffed, "One we tried to kill. You're going to believe this guy?"
"What do you want me to do, Damon?" Stefan shot back firmly, starting to get irritated at his options. "Elena made her decision. She's choosing to trust Elijah. I'm going to put my faith in her."
"Really?" Rebekah asked, turning to Stefan, "You're putting your fate in her hands. It's like asking an infant what 12 x 12 is. They are going to get it wrong!" She said, disappointed in them. "You're over 150 years old, and still listening to her? She sees the world through rose-colored lenses, at least Katherine took hers off in time to survive. But even with all you lot, Bambi here barely manages to land on her feet. Honestly, listening to an infant. Ridiculous." The blond scowled, shaking her head.
Stefan stared at her, open mouth. True he chose to listen to Elena because he put his faith in her, but was that really a good enough reason?
She was right. Asking Elena a supernatural question was like asking an infant what 12 x 12 was.
They wouldn't be able to get it right because they didn't have the necessary knowledge.
"Why? She's going to end up dead." Damon retorted, pointing his glass at his brother.
"Because she put her faith in me. She chose to trust me in spite of what I am. I'm going to bet on somebody's instincts, it's going to be hers." The younger brother answered.
"Well, then, that makes you the biggest idiot of them all." Damon insulted.
"She chose to trust you, too." Stefan informed him.
Damon glanced at his brother, before taking a sip from his glass. "Then maybe you shouldn't be so sure about her instincts." He then throws the rest of the drink away, before turning around and heading back inside.
Elena walked in, joining Elijah in the library. "You'd think he'd understand why I'm willing to do this." She says, lifting the elixir bottle up to inspect it.
"Why are you?" The original asks.
"I'm the key to breaking the curse. Klaus is here because of me. If I don't stop him, then he's going to hurt people. It's that simple." Elena answers.
"You're an idiot." Sage says, glancing at the doppelganger. "As if any of you could actually stop Klaus. Your only chance is Elijah, and even then you weren't willing to follow him, and will likely end up screwing up the plan somehow."
Before the brunette can protest, Rebekah is cutting in, "Please, we all knew that. Those lot may not recognise it, but even they know it."
"No." Stefan tries to protest.
"No?" Klaus asks, raising an eyebrow at him. "So Damon didn't try to stop the sacrifice, even though Elijah advised against it. And you didn't make an appearance AT the sacrifice. If you were even a minute later, you would have screwed up Elijah's plan, you know the only chance you'd have, completely."
Klaus was going to go on, but a pillow was thrown on his head by Kol. "No spoilers." The younger Mikaelson said firmly.
"You know, there's a possibility this elixir won't work." Elijah warned her. "I don't want to mislead you."
"You were more than willing to mislead me." Katherine huffs, glaring at Elijah, causing him to look down as guilt rose in his chest.
If he had to be honest, he felt worse in the days leading up her sacrifice and knowing what he would have to do even though there was a way for her to survive, then after he betrayed the Mystic Falls group.
"I know the chance I'm taking." Elena answered.
They then heard Jenna and Alaric near the front door, in a heated argument. The two followed the yelling to find Jenna holding a crossbow between her and Alaric.
"Get out!" She shouted.
"Jenna," The vampire hunter desperately called out. "Jenna!"
"Get out!" The women repeated. She raised the crossbow higher, ready to shoot.
"Jenna, put the crossbow down, okay? It's me." Alaric pleaded with his hands in the air.
Jenna glared at him, "Stay away from me."
Stefan and Damon joined the group, the two brothers staring warily at the hunter.
"What's going on?" Elena asked, confused.
Alaric turned to her, knowing if he convinced her, the others would follow, "It's me, Elena, I swear, okay? He let me go. Klaus let me go."
"Prove it." Damon demanded.
"Okay," Alaric agreed instantly, and began looking for something, "uh, first night you and I spent together, Jeremy walked in right when I was about to…"
Jenna lowered the crossbow, not wanting him to continue, "Okay, it's him."
"Why did he let you go?" Stefan asked.
"He wanted me to deliver a message." Alaric paused, unsure of how to best reveal it, so he decided the best thing would be to use Klaus' words. "The sacrifice happens tonight."
In the Mystic Falls hospital Carol woke up to see Tyler standing by a window. "Tyler?" The women called softly.
The boy turned around, rushing to her side, "Mom."
"You're back." Carol smiled, squeezing his hand.
"I'm back." Tyler nodded, kissing her on the forehead.
Matt was at work, when he turned around to find Caroline standing behind him. "Ohh. Jeez!" The human exclaimed.
Caroline winced, her new sensitive senses, still not used to loud sounds. "Sorry! I didn't mean to scare you." She said, laughing the pain off.
"It's okay," Matt smiled, trying to play normal. "I just, I didn't know you were here."
"Yeah, I wanted to try and catch you on your break so we could hang out." The blond smiled.
"I have lunch in an hour." Matt offered.
"Perfect. I will go run some errands and I will be right back." Caroline said, kissing him. "I'll see you in a bit."
"Okay." Matt nodded. The second she left, she moved to join Liz at the table.
"Does she suspect anything?" The Sheriff asks.
"No, but...I can't do this anymore." Matt said, beginning to feel guilty. "I've been with her the past few days, and I'm putting on the best show of my life. But either she is too, or she's still the same Caroline."
Liz shook her head sadly, "She's not the same. She's a vampire."
"At this point, I don't even know what that means." Matt argued.
"Look, I know this is hard to understand…" Liz spoke, hesitating for a second before continuing, "but my family, we were raised with this. They're monsters, Matt. They have no soul, no humanity."
Matt shook his head, "There's nothing about her that makes me believe that."
"It's an act." Liz told him, trying to convince herself more than anyone. "I believed Damon Salvatore was my closest ally in this town. Instead, he's a killer. They killed your sister. What other proof do you need?"
"I could ask you the same question, Sheriff. Why haven't you done anything? Why are you hesitating?" Matt shot back.
"Because I need more information." The Sheriff answered, forcing herself to think rationally. "And because, in spite of everything I just said, I still look at her and I...I see my daughter."
"Damon is the problem, not Caroline. You should focus on him." The teenager said firmly.
Liz sighed, "I shouldn't have involved you, Matt. Thank you for all of your help, but I'll take it from here." She said, getting up and leaving.
The Mikaelson's stared at Caroline, each of them being able to relate to a parent trying to kill you.
Klaus made a mental note to check on Caroline later to see how she was doing. Knowing that your mother wanted to kill you at one point is one thing, but seeing is a whole other.
But Kol, wasn't ever one to wait around and smirked, "Murderous Mothers. Been there, done that! I guess that's one thing I don't have to worry about you using in 'Never Have I Ever' against me."
Bonnie and Klaus glared at him, but to their surprise, Caroline let out a laugh. A sound that caused Bonnie's shoulder's to relax, and a warm feeling to grow in Klaus' chest.
Kol smirked, from what he'd seen, the last thing Caroline wanted was to be pitted.
Back in the boarding house Elena, Jenna, Stefan, Elijah and Alaric had all gathered in the living room.
"So you don't remember anything that happened?" Stefan asked, pacing slowly in front of Alaric.
"No." Alaric answered, trying to recall anything at all. "It's like I blacked out and woke up three days later. Katherine was there."
"She's under compulsion. Damon snuck her some vervain, but she can't leave until Klaus tells her she can." Stefan said, filling everyone in on what Damon had done.
Elena looked up at the mention of the older Salvatore, "Where is Damon?"
"I saw him go upstairs." Jenna piped up.
Elena gets up and leaves the room without a word.
"Wow? Really, right in front of Stefan? I wonder, are all doppelgnager's born skankes, or is it a natural instinct that comes naturally to them as breathing." Rebekah asks, in a fake wonder-like tone.
Kol smirked at his sister, "Who knows, it may be what they're missing, instead of what they have."
"What? A brain?" Rebekah asks.
Elena lets out a "Hey", but Kol ignores her.
"I was going to say shame, but yours works better I believe, sister."
Katherine glares at Elena, "I won't argue that she doesn't have a brain, but don't lump me in with her."
Rebekah tilts her head, analyzing Katherine, "I suppose." She says, pouting her lips. "But then again, you've always been one for 'Quality over Quantity'. I mean you clearly still have your hooks in my brother don't you."
Caroline's head shoots up, but her cheeks quickly turn pink as she realizes Rebekah met Elijah, not Klaus.
The rest of the gang may have not been paying attention to her, but Klaus had been watching her from the corner of his eyes the whole time, and couldn't stop the corner of his lips from turning upward, pleased.
Meanwhile, Stefan stared at Rebekah, surprised. Everyone had just acted like Elena seeking out his brother was normal, so seeing someone call her out on it made his heart speed up and made him feel confused, unsure of how to react.
Caroline felt a sense of relief that she wasn't the only one who felt like that. Elena always got to get away with so much, and everyone went along with it. And if anyone protested, they were made out to be the bad guy.
Elena gets away with playing both brothers, well she needs to bury her connection with Klaus for her friend's happiness, even when Tyler left her after playing a part in her father's death.
Alaric hesitates, before asking, "So what else did I do?"
"He didn't do anything." Klaus pipes up, offended that someone else tried to take credit for his work. "I'm the one who compelled Katherine in. I'm the one who graded all those horrendous essays and failed the whole class. It's like nobody knows what happens anymore. Because Anne Boryln wasn't executed because she was accused of sleeping with her brother, but because Henry caught her with Rebekah. Not to mention I'm the one-"
"Excuse me?" Caroline's voice cut in like a knife, her eyes flashing. "Do you have any idea what you nearly did! You nearly ruined my perfect GPA! God your lucky Alaric let us re-do those or else…"
Klaus' normal reaction would have been to cut off the offender's tongue, and in Caroline's case, try to defend himself. But seeing the look in her eyes he knew the best course of action would be to stay silent or risk encouraging her wrath further.
He suddenly considered it very lucky that he got the white oak stake from her, before she found that little fact out. Or she'd say one in five odds seemed pretty worth it for her GPA.
Katherine raised an eyebrow, "The rest of those offenses don't catch your attention, but a little mark on your GPA does?"
Caroline rolled her eyes, "Please, it's Klaus. Those things are normal." She'd grown used to the fact that Klaus did horrible things, but messing with her GPA? That's a big no-no. She worked hard to maintain that through all the supernatural crazy going on Mystic Falls. So Original Hybrid or not, she'd throw down to maintain that GPA.
"True." Rebekah nodded at her.
"You disappeared." Elena said, walking into Damon's bedroom to find him looking out his window, lost in thought.
"I don't want to hear anymore." Damon replied, without turning around.
"I need you to understand why I'm doing this." Elena said, walking further into the room.
"You sure make a lot of effort in what Damon thinks of you." Sage comments.
"Excuse me?" Elena exclaimed.
Sage rolled her eyes, "You're excused."
"Why?" Damon snapped, "It clearly doesn't matter what I think."
"I'll be fine, Damon. I'll drink the elixir, Bonnie will kill Klaus and then all of this will finally be over." Elena answered casually, laughing.
"Did you seriously think it would be that easy to kill him!" Katherine shouted, offended. "If all it took was a powerful witch who hated Klaus, and Elijah, I would have done it years ago!"
Damon glared at her, "We nearly did."
Katherine raised an eyebrow, "One, it wasn't 'we', it was Bonnie who nearly did. Plus, she only weakened him when he was in his first transition in over a thousand years. Plus, if it was that easy to get Elijah to kill Klaus, I would have done it centuries ago. You can't just weaken an original, and it may be easy to get them to turn on each other when they want to, but they won't kill each other."
"He had his hand around Klaus' heart but-"
Before Damon could finish, Kol began chakling. "Please, you can't just rip out an original's heart! Elijah probably put on that act to fool you a lot. He was likely just planning on decciscating Klaus."
Judging by Elijah's huff, Kol was right, but Bonnie was still confused, "I don't get it, how? The magic was meant to weaken him, not dissicate him."
"Wrong." Kol told her. "There was already so much magic in the air from the three sacrifices, and with the doppelganger as one of them it was basically a magic roofie created to strengthen Klaus and break his curse. Elijah was the one to study Klaus' curse the most thorily, aside from Klaus, so probably knew that. True the transformation may have weakened him, but the magic surrounding him was meant to help him."
"Did you actually have a goal in mind? Or were you just attacking him?" Judging by the Bennett witch's flush, Kol assumed it was the latter. "As I thought. What you were actually doing was cutting off Klaus' connection to the sacrificial magic, so his transformation would weaken him on his own. And you can't just rip out an original's heart, because of our mother's spell. But what it does do is begin draining us a lot faster. So that was Elijah's goal all along, desicate our brother."
"I-I had no idea." Bonnie stuttered, eyes widened.
"You may be a Bennett, but without proper guidance you're just as much of a novice as any young witch." Kol shrugged, slapping her with the cold, harsh truth. "You're lucky that Bennett ancestors always look out for their descendants even when they're angry, or you'd be dead by now."
"If it works." Damon corrects her.
"It will work." Elena answered confidently.
"You think it will work. You want it to work. Why am I the only one who's convinced it won't? There has to be another way." Damon tries to reason.
"There isn't." Elena reminds him.
"And you're going to die, Elena." Damon tells her, stalking towards her.
"And then I'll come back to life." Elena repeats, determined.
Damon points a finger at her, angry, "That is not a risk I'm willing to take."
"But I am." The doppelganger replies. She takes his hand in hers, intervening their fingers together. "It's my life, Damon. My choice."
"I can't lose you." The vampire growls.
"You won't." Elena reassures him.
"Wow. All that with his brother downstairs. Can't tell if that takes guts, or no shame." Kol commended.
"Well we already know she has no brains." Katherine drawled out.
"Hey, I had excellent grades." Elena protested. "Even with all the supernatural drama going on in Mystic Falls she bragged.
"Really?" Rebekah asks, "So I didn't see Damon compelling the principle to raise your grades from D's to A's and giving you the valedictorian position?"
Caroline looked up, surprised, "Wait. Then why did I get called into the Mis. Dave's office for a meeting to discuss my speech?" The baby vampire paused as she remembered the only three ways to break a vampire's compulsion.
First, if the vampire who did it uncompelled them - no way Damon would do that. Another is to transition into a vampire - and Mis. Dave was still very much human she remembered from the meeting she needed to ruin in her hunger. And the last option would be for the compulsion to be overridden by an original's - Klaus!
The baby vampire turned to him, "You didn't!"
"I was only correcting a wrong that should have clearly never happened in the first place." Klaus answered innocently.
Kol snickered at his brother, "Man, and here I thought you were wiped at the bar, but I had no idea how bad it really was."
Klaus glared at his brother, "One more word and-"
"You'll rip out my liver. I know. I know." Kol said, still chuckling.
Elena then lets go and walks toward the door but is intercepted by Damon.
"There is another way." He says, flashing in front of her.
"What are you-" But before she can finish her sentence, the vampire bites into his wrist, causing blood to flow out.
Elena's eyes widen as she realizes what he's about to do, "Damon, no!"
But he ignores her and puts his wrist against her mouth so the blood flows into her mouth.
Stefan hears her cries and flashes into the room. He pushes Damon away causing Elena to fall onto the floor with a bloody mouth.
"What did you do?! Huh? What did you do?!" Shouts at his brother, before helping a coughing Elena up.
"I saved her life." Damon Answers, unapologetically. "You're so bent on dying, at least this way I know you'll come back."
"As a vampire!" Stefan shouts, trying to get the point across, "She'll come back a vampire!"
"It's better than nothing else." Damon glares.
"How could you," Stefan scoffs in disbelief, "of all people, take that choice away from her?"
Damon ignores his brother and looks at the brunette "Go ahead: wish me an eternity of misery. Believe me, you'll get over it."
Stefan lets out a growl at his brother's lack of remorse, and flashes towards him, pushes him over a table, causing him to tumble over backwards.
"Stefan!" Elena shouts.
Damon picks up a broken stick of wood, pushes Stefan against a wall with it. His diet of human blood gives him the upper hand.
"You shout at Stefan but stay silent at that?" Rebekah asks, appalled, causing Elena to blush.
"Stay out of it." The human doppelganger growls.
"Kind of hard to when I'm watching it." The original rolls her eyes.
"Well nobody's forcing you!" Elena shouts, causing everyone to stare at her.
Rebekah blinked before shaking her head, "I take it back. Kol was right, it is definitely brainless."
"Admit it. You just wish you had the balls to do it yourself." Damon snarls, baiting his brother.
Stefan growls and punches him in the face several times in a row. Damon falls on the floor under the bariage of hits. He picks up the wooden stick and drives it through Stefan's stomach.
Stefan falls to his knees, coughing up blood. Elena rushes over to him and pushes Damon away, the vampire letting him. "Get out of here!" She shouts at the older brother.
Just then Alaric and Jenna rush into the room. "What the hell's going on?" Alaric demands.
"Get him out of here!" Elena shouts at him
Alaric moves toward Damon but he pushes him, causing Alaric to raise his hands in the air as a sign of surrender. Damon glares at his groaning brother one last time before leaving.
"Oh, my God." Jenna gasps.
Alaric turns to her, "Okay, Jenna, downstairs are some blood bags. Go get them now. Go!" He orders. The woman takes one look at Stefan's vampire face, struggling to emerge, and rushes out in a haze. Elena grunts, as she removes the stick from Stefan, causing blood to gush out. Stefan yells in pain, before he collapses onto Elena, and puts his head on her legs.
"It's okay. It's okay. You're going to be okay." Elena says, trying to comfort him.
"I'm so sorry." Stefan apologizes.
"Shh. It's okay." The doppelganger replies.
"I'm sorry." Stefan keeps repeating in his haze.
Damon went into the library to pour himself a drink, only to find Elijah there, closing the wooden box with the elixir in it.
"Well, it sounds like you won't be needing this anymore." The originals sigh. "Feeding her vampire blood rendered it useless. Tell Elena I'll be back before nightfall. We'll proceed as planned."
"We both know that elixir wouldn't have worked anyway." Damon said, trying to act like he knew what he was doing. That he knew more than the millenia old vampire.
But Elijah saw right through him, "The problem, Damon… you talk a good game but you don't actually know anything. She'll never forgive you. And never for a vampire...It's a very long time." He said, before leaving.
Upstairs, in Stefan's room, the vampire finished his blood bag, before turning to Jenna, "Thank you. Both of you."
Alaric crossed his arms, "Yeah, well, we'll be downstairs." He said, leading Jenna into the corridor. "I know it's, uh, it's a lot to take in." He says, walking down the hallway.
"Yeah." The woman agrees, not knowing what else to say.
"I tried to protect you from all this, but I should have known you could handle it." Alaric confessed.
Jenna didn't look as sure, "Can I?" She asked.
"Well, you just did." The hunter pointed out. "Look, Jenna...I know we have a lot to talk about."
They stopped walking and Jena turned to touch his face. "Hey. I'm glad you're okay. I should have said that already." She says, before kissing him.
Back in the vampire's room, Elena and Stefan were sitting on his bed.
"How could he do that to me?" Elena asked angrily, "Why?"
"Hey." Stefan said, beginning to rub her cheek with his thumb gently, trying to calm her down, "We've never talked about this. What this all means."
"It doesn't matter." Elna shakes her head.
"Of course it matters." Stefan said firmly. "Hey. It matters. I want you to go somewhere with me."
"Stefan, I can't." Elena protested, Klaus' message still hanging over their heads.
"No, no, it's not far, okay? It's just for the day." Stefan says, trying to convince her, "I promise."
In the hospital, Carol was sleeping, so Tyler decided to take that opportunity to leave. Jules instantly walked up to him.
"What are you doing here?" Tyler demands.
"I should be asking you that. I told you not to come." The she-wolf says gently.
"She's my mother. I had to." Tyler says, meeting her head on.
"Now we have to get out of here; Lock ourselves up before tonight." She reminds him.
When they walked outside, they were met with Caroline in the parking lot. The blond's eyes widened with hurt once she saw who he was with. "Tyler? Jules." She says, her heart picking up speed.
Jules looks away, and presses her lips firmly before turning to Tyler, "I'll give you a few minutes."
"Thank you." The other wolf nods.
"Just a few, Tyler." Jules warns.
"I got it." Tyler agrees, prompting the women to walk away.
When Tyler see's Caroline's eyes repeatedly flickering to the ground, he shakes his head as if he thinks she's overreacting, "She's just making sure I'm safe." He explains.
"So what, are you two, like, friends now?" Caroline shrugs.
"She's been helping me." Tyler defends her, before changing the topic, "How are you?" He asks.
"I heard about your mom. I just came to check in on her." The vampire explains.
"She's banged up, but she'll be okay." Tyler fills her in.
"And you?" Caroline asked, still concerned for her friend despite his actions, "Um...How's everything with you?"
"I'm hanging in there." Tyler answers.
"Good." Caroline nods.
Tyler takes a deep breath, "Yeah. I should get going. Jules and I need to get on the road."
"You're leaving again?" Caroline asks, surprised that he would leave with his mother still in the hospital.
"I left for a reason, Caroline." Tyler reminds her, walking past her.
"Your explanation must have got lost in the mail, along with your goodbye." The blond glares at him.
"Well…" Tyler begins, searching for the words, "Take care of yourself."
"Tyler-", But before Caroline can get anything else out, she screams as her head is attacked with a burst of sudden pain, she falls to the ground, clutching her head..
Maddox appears from behind a car with his hand outstretched in a claw pointed at Tyler, who was soon on the ground as well, as Greta appears from behind Caroline and injects vervain into her.
"Let's go." The witch says as Maddox grabs Tyler, and she picks up Caroline.
"How can you claim to like her when you were about to sacrifice here." Elena cut in, glaring at Klaus.
The hybrid raised an eyebrow, "Well for one, I never claimed to do something as fickle as 'like'. And I never said I was going to use her or the mutt of the sacrifice. You all just assumed that."
"Wait! So they were just decoys?" Stefan asked, his eyes widening.
Caroline sighed, "I'd feel a lot better if I didn't know the women you sacrificed my entire life."
Klaus smirked, "I never had any intention of using the sacrifices the witches choose. I actually had another vampire lined up but then Damon just had to go and make me angry."
"What? So you're saying it's my fault Jenna's dead?" Damon demanded.
But Klaus met him head on, "That is exactly what I'm saying. You should have left it alone. In fact, if you didn't come to the apartment I was going to let it slide completely, but then you just had to go and make me angry."
What Klaus didn't share with the group was that even if Caroline hadn't been the decoy, even if she was brought to the altar. His wolf, even chained, wouldn't have let him rip out her heart.
Caroline turned to him, angry, "What? So you killed Jenna to get to Elena, to get to Damon! She had nothing to do with it!"
"It worked." Klaus shrugged. "Pretty sure Elena was devastated, which affected Damon."
"Uhh" Caroline groaned, "The one time you should have gone with torture, you decide to start playing mind games."
"I've been playing mind games for centuries, sweetheart." Klaus fired back, offended.
"What are you saying Caroline, that he should have killed Damon!" Elena shouted, getting angry.
Caroline rolls her eyes, "I would choose Jenna over Damon any day of the week. Shouldn't you?" She asked, causing Elena to look down. The blond shook her head, disgusted and couldn't help but mutter, "God, choosing the man who nearly killed your brother, over your own aunt."
Damon glared at her, but before he could say anything, a pencil was flying through the air and into his heart. Killing him.
Elena let out an ear-piercing scream, and Stefan winced. "Can you stop doing that?" The younger Salvatore pleaded.
Klaus humed thoughtful for a moment, "No."
Matt tried to call Caroline, but her phone kept going to voicemail. "Hey, Caroline, it's me. I thought you were coming back to meet me. Look, I need to talk to you. It's important." He hangs up and sees Damon walking into the grill and heading straight for the bar. Just as he asks for a drink.
Alaric arrives and sits next to him. "I'll have the same."
"I screwed up." Damon admits.
"Yeah." The hunter nods, "Yeah, you did."
"Yeah." Damon sighs quietly.
They were then joined by another man, one that had the hair's on the neck of Damon's monster rising, as he sensed the older predator. "Gentlemen? Why so glum?"
Alaric stood up, as Damon turned around to see a 5'11 man standing next to them. He had curly dirty blond hair with sharp blue eyes that cut into Damon.
"Ugh." Damon tried to cover his fear with a sound of disgust, but Klaus could easily hear how the younger vampire's heart sped up, "Klaus, I presume."
"In the flesh." The original smirked. He glanced at Alaric. "Thanks for the loaner, mate."
"Any reason you stopped by to say hi?" Damon asks, standing up.
"I'm told you and your brother fancy my doppelgänger." Klaus says, making Damon go pale. "Just thought I'd remind you to not do anything you'll regret."
Damon chuckles, "Ha. Thanks for the advice. I don't suppose I could talk you into a postponement, by any chance, huh?"
"You are kidding?" Klaus asks, unamused, before nodding at Alaric, "He is kidding, right?"
"No, not really." Alaric answers dryly.
"I mean, come on, what's one month in the whole grand scheme of things?" Damon asks, starting to get desperate.
"Let me be clear…" Klaus begins, all humor now gone from his voice. "I have my vampire. I have my werewolf. I have everything I need. The ritual will happen tonight. So if you want to live to see tomorrow, don't screw it up." He then leaves the two alone at the bar once again.
Damon: That was fun.
Alaric: You're going to screw it up, aren't you?
Damon sighs, before falling back onto the bar stool he turns to Alaric, "You think if I took his werewolf out of the equation, she might...Get over the fact that I tried to turn her into a vampire?"
"I think it won't matter, because you'll be dead." Alaric corrects him.
"But without the werewolf, he can't perform the ritual tonight, which means I would have bought her one month before the next full moon." Damon tries to reason, his mind already made up.
"And you'll still be dead." The hunter reminds him.
Damon glares at him, "Are you gonna help me or what?" He asks, taking a sip of his drink.
Alaric sighs, "What do you want me to do?"
Stefan was taking Elena hiking in the woods on the side of the mountain, leaving her confused, "Where are we?"
"It's a surprise. Just a little bit longer." Stefan answered, helping her along.
"I'm not a vampire yet, you know. My legs still get tired." Elena said, beginning to complain.
"Ready to talk about how you're feeling about all this?" Stefan asked.
"Uh...this morning I was wondering if I would live or die, and now...I'm going to be a vampire. I...I don't really know how I'm feeling." She answered.
They then arrived at a waterfall.
"God, this is beautiful." She says, amazed.
Stefan looks at her. "I think you do know how you feel. I just want you to know that it's okay to tell me."
"I can't." Elena denied, "Stefan, I just...I can't talk about it."
"Well, if you don't want to, that's your choice. Today's about you." Stefan tells her.
"Isn't everyday." Kol scoffs.
"But...It's a long way to the top. Let's go. You never know what might come up." Stefan tells her, not just talking about the mountain.
"We're climbing all the way up to the top?" Elena asks, surprised.
"Oh, yeah." Stefan nodes.
"Well, can't you do one of your superpower vampire jumpy things?" Elena complains.
"Please. This isn't Twilight." Katherine huffed.
Caroline turned to her, surprised. "You've seen twilight!"
The doppelganger rolled her eyes, "I've been on the run for the past five hundred years, not living under a rock."
"No, it's your last day as a human. Why cheat now?" Stefan says, offering his hand. Elena takes it, and they both start walking up along the waterfall.
In Alaric's apartment, Katherine was looking for a blood bag in the fridge. She finds a couple, only for it to be empty. She hears the key in the lock and gets up and goes to the door. Alaric opens it but he stands outside his apartment without entering.
"Look who's dumb enough to come back." She sneers.
"Well, somebody had to invite him in." He says, nodding at Damon. "Damon. Would you like to, uh, come in?"
Damon comes in and Katerine rushes over to him in anger, "Are you trying to get me killed?"
Damon pushes her against the wall, for once having an advantage over the 500 year old vampire who was weakened from starvation. "I gave you vervain, now I'm here to collect. I got it from here, Rick."
"That would explain how she got the vervain." Klaus commented.
"You knew!" Damon asked, surprised.
"Of course I knew. I could clearly spell it in her blood." Klaus answered, as if it was obvious. "Things like that are impossible to hide once you're 700 years or older."
"You sure?" The hunter asked.
"Yeah," Damon replied back, "only one of us needs to get blamed for this. Get back in the house. Keep Elena from handing herself over."
"Okay." Alaric agreed, leaving.
"Get blamed for what?" Katherine asked, not liking where this was going.
"I need to know where Klaus is keeping his werewolf." Damon told her.
"Why? What are you going to do?" She asked, a hint of panic beginning to take over her voice.
"Dead werewolf equals no ritual." The younger vampire said, as if it was obvious.
"No." Katherine shook her head, "You can't interfere, Damon. Klaus will kill you and everyone you've ever met." She said, speaking from experience.
'I just need to delay this thing.' Damon said, as if it would prevent the inevitable.
"No. No way." Katherine said firmly, refusing to budge.
"You should like this." Damon argued, "It's going to buy another month of your pathetic life."
"Right. Except that I'm not the vampire he's planning on sacrificing." Katherine smirked.
"What?" Damon asked, surprised.
"Yeah. He's got Caroline Forbes and Tyler Lockwood. Therefore, I'm in the clear." Katherine revealed, relieved.
"And where'd he get that idea from?" Damon scowled, walking towards her threateningly.
Katherne holds her hands up innocently. "Hey! Hey, hey, hey, I'm just trying to stay alive long enough to get myself out of here."
"What if I told you Elena had vampire blood in her system?" Damon smirked.
"What?!" Katherine scowled.
"Imagine how much fun that will be competing with Elena for Stefan's love for, I don't know, forever." The Salvatore said, taunting her.
Katherine rolled her eyes. "I should care why?" She was only with Stefan because his personality reminded her of another gentleman.
"Katherine!" Damon shouted, getting frustrated.
Katherine finally caved, "The tomb. He's got them in the tomb."
"Thank you." Damon said, flashing away.
Caroline and Tyler were chained up against the walls, facing each other. Caroline woke up to Tyler looking at her. "Tyler?" Caroline called.
"You all right?" The werewolf asked.
"Yeah. I think so." Caroline answered. She struggled against the chains, trying to break them, but she couldn't.
"I already tried." Tyler said, hopelessly.
Caroline tries to stand up the fell back down as her knees gave out from under her. "Those witches vervain me." She groaned.
"Who were they?" Tyler asked.
"I think they're with Klaus." Caroline replied, knowing it could be the only possible answer.
"Who the hell is Klaus?" Tyler demanded.
Caroline looks to her side, she doesn't answer right away. She finally sighs. "Tyler...You shouldn't have come back here."
Back in the woods Elena and Stefan were climbing to the top. "I guess Bonnie will have to make me a daylight ring." Elena sighed.
Caroline looked down, remembering how Bonnie didn't want to make her a ring, and hated her at first when she found out. But she knew it would be different for Elena. Even if Bonnie said no, Elena would make that face she perfect when they were three and someone else was on the swings and she wanted them. And Bonnie would make one for her without any further arguments.
Klaus took one look at Caroline's face, and the guilt clearly all over Bonnie's and began glaring at the witch, already having an idea of what happened between the two in regards to daylight rings.
Which were notorious for their hate in making them for vampires, calling it unnatural. Like anything else they deemed unfit to be on this earth.
"Yeah, piece of cake." Stefan said, not sounding too sure.
"That's just insulting." Klaus huffed.
"I was able to bring you down." Bonnie reminded him.
Klaus glared at her, "Yeah, well I was already breaking every bone in my body."
Damon rolled his eyes, "And you wanted that why?"
"Well lets see, superior strength, superior speed, extremely poisonous bites. Would you like a reminder?" The hybrid asked, smirking. The threat of the poisonous bite silenced the older salvatore.
"And I'll never be able to watch Bambi again." Elena said, sulking.
"Yes, because that's clearly the issue here." Katherine drawled out dryly.
"I definitely wouldn't recommend doing that." Stefan smiled, agreeing.
"What's the best part about being a vampire?" Elena asked.
"Power." Both Katherine and Klaus answer in unison.
Caroline turned to look at the two older vampires, "Huh… in another life, you two would be BFFs."
Klaus and Katherine instantly began protesting.
"I resent that!" "That that back"
Stefan took a moment to answer. "Ahh. You feel like you could do anything. Be anyone. Beautiful things are more beautiful. Everything is heightened, you just live more intensely, love more powerfully."
"And the worst?" The doppelganger asked.
"Ah, you know the worst." Stefan said, not wanting to go there.
"Aside from the blood?" Elena pressed on.
Stefan stopped walking and looked her in the eyes, all humor now gone from his voice. "Anger becomes rage. When you're sad, you're in despair. Grief. Loss. It can cripple you. That's why so many of us turn our emotions off. It just becomes...Too overwhelming. You know, for a while, for me, the good just wasn't worth the bad." he said, speaking from his own experience from a change that was no more wanted than Elena's would be.
"How long before you learned to handle both?" Elena asked, scared.
"Well, I'm still trying. Every day. What else?" Stefan admitted.
"Let's just keep going. We're not even halfway to the top." Elena said, and began to walk again.
Back in Alaric's apartment, Klaus had just come back from checking on the backup sacrifices, to find Katherine next to the coffee machine. But as much as she wanted it to, even the strong scent of coffee couldn't mask the smell of vervain from an Original's senses.
"Everything okay?" Katherine asked, every muscle in her body tense from fear. Katherine takes a small step closer to the machine, reaching for a spoon. But as much as she wanted it to, even the strong scent of coffee couldn't mask the smell of vervain from an Original's senses - something she failed to realize.
"What have you been doing?" Klaus asked, not falling for it.
"Making coffee. Do you want some?" She asks, only for Klaus to flash over to her, and grab her by the throat.
His pupils dilate as he compels her, "Tell me what you've been doing."
"Making coffee." The doppelganger chokes out.
That was enough for Klaus to release her, but he wasn't done with her yet. As Katherine turned around grasping her neck and gasping for breath, Klaus stopped her. "Wait. Take off your bracelet." He ordered, holding out his hand in demand for the bracelet.
Katherine didn't like where this was going, but was forced to comply, or give away the fact she had ingested vervain. She took off her daylight bracelet and handed it over to him.
As soon as the bracelet was grasped in his hand, he issued his next order. "Now, I want you...to walk over to the window and stand in the sunlight."
"But I'll burn." Katherine protested.
"You don't have a choice." Klaus said, hoping she wouldn't go through with it and reveal she had ingested vervain and he'd get to drain her of the substance. But if she managed to burn in the sun, he'd give it to her, and let her have a pass.
Katheirne slowly turned around, trying to prevent the inevitable for as long as possible, for moving into the sunlight. She began to scream as it burned her, her fingers twitching to give in and step out from it. Her centuries of vampirism being the only reason she could endure and not burn up as quickly as a younger vampire.
Klaus watched her with a delighted smile, he continued to let her burn as he picked up the coffee cup she was brewing and took a sip. After a moment he finally gave her permission to move, "That's enough."
Katherine instantly flashed away from the sunlight. With her speed, she was unable to stop herself from crashing into a wall. She fell into a corner, slumping against the shadows, to conceal her from the sun.
"Guess I was wrong." Klaus hummed, "All right, then. I need you to do something for me."
Katherine glared at him from the shadows, her monster rising to fight, but she had to push it down, knowing she wouldn't win.
"Was that truly necessary Niklaus?" Elijah sighed. "You already knew she had vervain."
"Of course it wasn't. But it was satisfying." Klaus smirked without a hint of remorse.
Damon was in the woods just outside the tomb, when he saw Maddox there.
"Which one are you trying to save? The blond, or the wolf? Did you really think Klaus would leave them unprotected?" The man asked, coming up from behind Damon. Confident enough that it didn't matter, he gave up his advantage.
"Wishful thinking." The vampire groaned.
Damon flashes over to Maddox and pins him on the ground. He tries to strangle him, but Maddox uses his powers to throw Damon back against some rocks. Damon falls on the ground giving Maddox the opportunity to get up and use his powers to burst the blood vessels inside Damon's head. Damon screams and tries to fight the pain, but suddenly there's a gunshot and the pain stops. He looks up to see Maddox fall to the ground and Matt with a rifle.
Damon gets up and snaps Maddox's neck and looks at Matt suspiciously "What are you doing here?" He demands.
"Where's Caroline?" Matt asks, holding the gun a bit higher.
"Listen, man. Not a good time to play the hero." Damon says, as if Matt hadn't just saved him.
Matt quickly cocks the rifle and aims it at Damon. "Where is she? And what did he do to her?" The human asks.
Damon puts his hands up and starts stepping forward slowly. "I'm just here to rescue her." He then flashes over to Matt and hits him with the butt of the rifle, causing Matt to fall to the ground, unconscious. Damon then picks up the rifle to remove the bullets.
"Really?" Caroline scoffed. "Just can't share the glory even after he saved your ass."
"Oh please, he would have gotten in the way." Damon rolled his eyes.
"Oh, you mean like you did when you got bitten while trying to save the sacrifices that were never meant to be used to try and delay the inevitable and ended up becoming a hassle for your brother?" Klaus taunted.
"I was always the one who led the attacks and came up with the plans." Damon fired back.
"The plans that never worked?" Finn asked. "I believe it was you who in fact ruined our mothers perfect plan. I also believe you weren't even anywhere near my attack, let alone leading the charge against an original who had only been awake for a 100 years."
"He was tied up and being tortured, remember darling." Sage reminded him.
Caroline turned to look at them, surprised. Whenever she made a comment against Damon, no one ever took her side, because Elena was always on Damon's.
Even Bonnie could do nothing but stay silent whenever Elena jumped to Damon's defense - despite how he's basically responsible for leading her grandmother to her death.
But Klaus had taken her side, instantly; and backed her up.
Caroline bit her bottom lip, trying not to smile, but couldn't stop the corner of her lips from curving upwards.
"You're lucky I already screwed up once today or you'd be dead." Damon said, only to pick up one of the bullets he pulled out and realize they were wooden. He got lucky. If Matt had actually taken a shot, he'd be dead.
Meanwhile, inside the tomb, Caroline was filling Tyler in on what was happening.
"The whole sun and moon curse is fake?" The werewolf asked, shocked.
"That's what Elena learned." Caroline sighed, "Klaus still needs to do the sacrifice, but it's just not for that."
"And you think that's why they grabbed us? For the sacrifice." Tyler asks.
"Yes." The blond nods.
"He's going to kill us?" Tyler states more than asks, a hint of fear beginning to enter his voice.
"I think so. Yes." Caroline agrees.
"This whole time I've been gone, Jules has been helping me come to terms with what I am. How to deal with it. I guess none of it matters anymore." Tyler scoffs.
"Why didn't you say good-bye? You just left." Caroline said, remembering what they were discussing just before they were taken.
"You want to talk about this now?" Tyler protested.
"Well, if we're going to die, I might as well know the truth." Caroline said, pointing out the obvious, "Why did you leave me?"
"I knew you hated me. I thought you deserved better than having someone like me in your life." Tyler tried to reason.
"I was hurt. You know, you turned your back on me when I needed you. But...I could never hate you, Tyler." Caroline said. She knew she may never forget what he did, but had already forgiven him for that.
Tyler smiles just as they hear the door of the tomb open up and Damon arrives.
"Damon?" Caroline gasps, surprised to see him there. He was the last person she expected to come to their rescue.
Damon walked towards her, "Your boyfriend's outside with a rifle loaded with wooden bullets. You have some explaining to do."
"What, Matt?" Caroline asks, shocked.
"Matt knows about you?" Tyler asks, also confused.
"No," Caroline shakes her head, "I…"
"Shh. Tomorrow's problem." Damon says, releases her and she gets up, rubbing her writs.
"Let me just get you out of here." He says, turning around.
Caroline stops him, "Wait, Damon No! I'm not leaving without him."
Damon shakes his head, "Ohhh. It's getting dark soon." He then remembers it would be harder for Klaus to find a werewolf and turns to Tyler, "How fast can you get the hell away from here?"
"I need to get to my family's cellar. I can lock myself up." Tyler answered.
"I'll help." Caroline added.
Damon walks over to Tyler and crouches down in front of him. "Don't make me regret this." He says, as he breaks Tyler's chains.
Elena and Stefan had finally reached the top of the mountain.
"We made it!" The doppelganger exclaimed, "Ahh."
"That's nothing, if you've climbed Mt. Everest." Stefan smiles.
"True." Klaus, Kol, and Katherine chimed in.
"Nobody likes a bragger." Elena huffed, crossing her arms.
"Nobody likes a bragger, Stefan." Elena fired back.
"Aww, look who still can't grow up." Katherine taunted.
Elena took in the view, "Oh, wow."
Stefan agreeded, watching the sun begin to set and turn the sky shades of orange. "Yeah. Hey, you can say it."
Elena turned to Stefan, playing dumb she asked, "Say what?"
"The thing you've been wanting to say, but...Been afraid of how it'll make me feel." Stefan said, not letting her off.
Elena looked down at her feet, "There's nothing I can say, Stefan. It's not going to change anything."
"Might make you feel better." Stefan told her. "Look, I know this isn't the first time you've thought about it. Drinking vampire blood to survive. I mean, I know I've thought about it a hundred times."
"And before all this with Klaus, did you think about it then?" Elena demanded, getting defensive.
"Of course I did." Stefan admitted, "Elena...If it were my choice, I'd want to be with you forever."
"Why have you never brought it up?" Elena asked, a lot quieter.
"Cause I knew if it was an option, you would have. It would be selfish for me to ask you." Stefan said, wanting her to have a choice.
"Didn't stop Damon." Elena said bitterly.
"He shouldn't have done what he did. He did it because he loves you." Stefan told her, already having an idea of what has been going on between them.
"But he did this to me, Stefan," Elena complained. "which means he doesn't really know what love is. And to be honest, I don't know if I do. I'm seventeen years old. How am I supposed to know any of this yet?"
"Yet you seemed perfectly content to lead them both on. I mean if you really didn't want Damon, you should have said so and drawn the line a long time ago." Rebekah scoffed, and Caroline couldn't help but find herself agreeing.
"Yet here we clearly are." Katherine added, gesturing at Stefan, Elena, and Damon.
"Also, what was she expecting, dating a vampire?" Sage asked.
"Exactly! It's not High School Musical, it's not even Twilight." Kol nodded. "Our world's a lot more bloody than a vampire with an identity crisis and a girl who has a death wish."
Elena took his hands into her own, "I know that I love you, Stefan. I know that. But my future? Our lives together? Those were things I was supposed to deal with as they came along. I was supposed to grow up."
She began to cry. "Decide if I want to have kids and start a family. Grow old. I was supposed to have a lifetime of those choices, and...now? That's all gone."
"Hey, say it." Stefan encouraged her.
"I don't want to be a vampire," Elena sobbed. "Stefan. I never wanted to be one."
"I know. It's okay." The vampire says, as he embraces the still crying girl.
It was dark, and the moon was shining over them in the sky, when Damon, Caroline, and Tyler ran outside. Matt was just waking up, when Caroline rushed over to him.
"Hey, Matt!" She called, trying to wake him up. She turns to look at Damon. "Hey. Did you hit him?!"
"Did you already forget about the part with the gun and the wooden bullets?" The older vampire reminded her.
Tyler began to growl and hold his chest in pain. He looked up at the moon that was only rising higher in the sky.
"Tyler?" Caroline called, "Tyler?"
"It's starting." The werewolf warned them.
"Grab boy wonder and let's go." Damon ordered.
Caroline helped Matt along, "Come on." She said, following after Damon.
Stefan parks his car, and goes out and opens the door for Elena.
She gets out of the car. "Thanks for today."
Stefan suddenly became alert as he felt something and put himself in front of Elena, guarding her with his body. They both turned around to see Klaus there.
"You got me all nervous." Klaus smiles, "I thought maybe you'd done something stupid" he says to Stefan, before turning to the doppelganger, "You ready, my dear?"
"I'm ready." Elena answers, her chest beginning to feel tight and begins walking towards him, but Stefan stops her by putting his arm in front of her.
"No." He says, looking directly at Klaus.
"I wouldn't." Klaus warns, "No reason for you to die, too."
Elena turns around and looks at Stefan, but he can't stop staring at Klaus, feeling as if he's missing something. As if he's seen the man before.
His thoughts are cut off by Elena, "No. Stefan, hey, hey, it's fine, it's fine. I'll go. No one needs to get hurt. There's no reason for you to get hurt." She then kisses him, "I love you."
"I love you." Stefan repeats, and pulls her in before other eyes.
"Close your eyes. Close your eyes." Elena pleads.
He does as she asks, and Klaus uses this opportunity to flash her away before he's forced to kill Stefan.
The younger Salvatore opens his eyes, but Elena is gone and all that's left is the wind Klaus movement created.
Stefan enters the house to find Alaric there.
"There you are." The hunter greets, "I got here, the house was empty."
"Where's Damon?" Stefan demands, looking around for his brother, already having a feeling that he must be up to something reckless.
Damon, Caroline, Matt and Tyler were walking through the woods, trying to get to the Lockwood cellar, wanting to get there before Tyler fully changed.
"What's happening? Is he okay?" Matt asked, concerned.
"He better not wolf out on us." Damon said, rushing ahead.
Damon's phone then rings, he picks it up to see Stefan's name flashing. "Bat time, little bro." He groans.
"What the hell are you doing?" Stefan demands.
"Saving the day." Damon answers, "I figured you'd understand. Just tell Elena to stay put."
"She's already gone, Damon." Stefan says.
"What?" Damon shouts.
Stefan pauses, before answering, "Klaus came. He took her."
"I'll take care of it." Damon growls and hangs up in time to see Tyler double over and fall to the ground, his transformation beginning.
"Tyler!" Matt called.
The werewolf shook his head, "I don't know if I can hold it off. Get out of here."
"Tyler, it'll be okay." Caroline said, trying to comfort him.
"Go!" Tyler shouted at them.
"You've got time." Caroline said, with a hint of desperation in her voice, "We're almost there, just…"
Tyler groaned, "It's happening faster."
"Tyler, it's okay." She said, but there was doubt in her voice.
Tyler's eyes began to change color and he rushed over towards Caroline but Damon intercepted him. Causing them both to fall to the ground. Damon landed on his back and Tyler was above him. The vampire pushes him away, but Tyler bit him in the process.
Damon jumped up to see Caroline looking at him concerned, "Damon…"
"I'm fine." Damon said, his main concern being to make sure Tyler wasn't loose and Klaus couldn't get his hand on the werewolf for tonight's sacrifice.
"Get out of here!" Tyler screamed.
"Get to the Lockwood cellar." Damon ordered Caroline and Matt, "If it held him in, it'll keep him out. If it doesn't...use these." He says, handing them wooden bullets. "It'll buy you a couple seconds. Go. Go!"
Caroline hesitates, before pulling Matt and running. Tyler continues to transform, well Damon flashes away.
Klaus stormed into Alaric's apartment, "Where's Maddox? He should be back by now." He demanded.
"I don't know." Katherine answered, without looking up.
Klaus sat down and opened up his laptop.
"What are you doing?" Katherine asked. But he ignored her and pressed some buttons on the laptop, and then connected it with his phone. The laptop screen began playing a live video of Jules lying on the floor of a cellar, chained to the wall. "Where's Elena?" She asked.
"I sent her off with Greta." Klaus finally answered, still looking at Jules, who was transitioning. "It's almost time." He smiles.
The door opened again, causing the two vampires to turn and look at it.
Klaus smirked, "I wasn't aware you'd been invited in."
Damon, who had been standing behind Klaus, to try and get back at him for the stunt this morning, narrowed his eyes at how the original had easily sensed his presence. "I've come here to tell you that you have to postpone the ritual." He said, trying to sound casual.
Klaus sighed, "Didn't we already have this conversation?"
"Yeah, but that was before I rescued your werewolf and vampire and killed your witch." Damon taunted, but could help but take a step back when Klaus stood up.
"Excuse me?" The man asks, voice deadly calm as he turns to face Damon.
Damon's heartbeat sped up, but he went on, "And you can kill me for it. I don't care. It was all...me."
"Katerina, give us a moment." Klaus ordered. The doppelganger glanced at them, before walking to another room.
"I've heard about you." Klaus said, stepping closer to Damon, as the younger vampire continued looking him in the eyes when he felt like glancing down at the floor. But he knew he couldn't do that. It would be a sign of weakness, so he forced himself to keep looking Klaus in the eyes. "The crazy, impulsive vampire in love with his brother's girl."
Klaus smirked and walked over to his laptop, "I knew one of you would try to stop me. It was just a 50/50 guess on who." He says, shifting the laptop to show Damon the video of Jules.
Klaus smiled tauntingly as the sound of Jules screams rang out through the room, "The nice thing about werewolves is they tend to travel in packs. Need a closer look?"
Klaus unplugged the phone and threw it at Damon.
Damon didn't even flinch at the women's screams. "Jules." He cursed.
Rebekah rolled her eyes, "I can't believe you actually thought he wouldn't have other's. If you have one werewolf, getting a dozen more is easy."
Meanwhile, Caroline couldn't help but smile. She had always wondered what had happened to Jules.
"Well, well. I didn't think you had it in you to be a little bloodthirsty." Kol said, noticing her smile.
Caroline glared at him, "It's not bloodthirst. I think I have more than enough right to be happy that Jules got what was coming to her."
"What did she ever do to you?" Katherine asked, raising an eyebrow.
Before Caroline could answer, the other doppelganger cut in, "Caroline! How could you be smiling! The poor women's going to be sacrificed."
Caroline felt her vampire struggle to emerge, but pushed it down, not wanting to hear Bonnie's judgment, along with Elena's. "She tortured me, Elena. I think I have the right to feel a little satisfaction in her death."
Klaus sat up straighter, "Wait, what? When!" He demanded
Caroline glanced at him, before turning her attention back to the paused screen, not wanting to look at anyone.
"Jules came in just a couple of days before you came into town, and she wanted the moonstone, and Tyler. So I was the unlucky vampire chosen to be kidnapped. Now what good is a hostage without a little incentive, and they couldn't have me getting too loud. So I was shot. In the head…" Bonnie grabbed Caroline's hand, and the blond squeezed it back, "...repedadly."
"It was actually Elijah's witches who helped save me." She said, throwing a grateful look at the original.
Elijah gave her a small, silent nod back. He recalled sending two witches there, to ensure he kept his promise to Elena in protecting her friends. He was pleased to see at least something good came out of that vow.
Everyone stared at Klaus, waiting for his reaction.
And Kol let out a shaky chuckle, "Great, now he's not sure who he wanted to use more. Tyler, or Jules."
"Well I've regretted not using Tyler for a while now." Klaus answered his tone light, but anyone who looked at him could clearly see the dangerous glint in his eyes. "But now I just feel half as bad about it. Definitely feel a lot better about my choice though." He answered, more than pleased he could avenge the baby vampire that was still a little hesitant in taking things into her own hands. But there was also a hint of regret there, Jules' death was over far too quickly. But at least he knew she suffered during her last night as Greta's spell forced her transition to slow down for the sacrifice, making each bone snapped even more painful.
But still, considering what they did to his Caroline, it wasn't enough. He'd need to make a note to track down Jules' pack and slaughter the rest of them. Making sure they'd know it was her fault.
The original walked over to him, "When you spend a thousand years trying to break a curse...You learn a thing or two." he says, circling him. "First rule...always have a backup. Backup werewolf. Backup witch."
"Backup vampire." Damon catches on, thinking it's going to be him.
"But Klaus smirks, knowing the best way to get back at Damon, would be to cause Elena even more pain. "I've got that covered, too."
Caroline and Matt ran into the Lockwood Cellar and closed the door.
"Come on, down here." Caroline said, leading Matt deeper.
"Is that going to hold?" Matt asked, still carrying the rifle.
"No." Caroline answered honestly.
They enter further into the cellar and Caroline starts closing the iron gates, "Help with the gate. Help me with the gate!" She says, as the sounds begin to get louder.
Matt helped her close it, just in time. Because a wolf enters the cellar and stares at them.
"Tyler?" Caroline calls. "It's me. It's Caroline. Tyler?"
The wolf rushed over to attack them, but it stopped by the gate. What was once meant to keep him in, was the only thing keeping him out now.
Damon was lying unconscious on the floor and Katherine tried to wake him up by putting a blood bag to his lips, but when that failed. She slapped him on the chepp. "Hey. Damon. Hey. Damon!"
Damon groaned weakly as he woke up, "Ahh. What the hell happened?"
"He's gone." Katherine told him. "He went to do the ritual. I'm sorry. I had to. He would have known that I was on vervain if I didn't do it.'
"Ahh. Do what?" Damon demanded.
"Klaus. He made me call her to lure her out." She told him, "He needed another vampire."
"Who did you call?" Damon asked frantically, grabbing her arm. "Who did you call, Katherine?"
In the woods, Greta was leading Elena through the forest, to the sacrifice site.
"Where are we going?" Elena asked.
"This way." The witch answered without looking back.
"You're Luka's sister, aren't you? I heard about you." Elena said, trying to reason with Greta. "He and your father were looking for you."
Greta glanced back at her, "Well, they were wasting their time. I wasn't lost." She answered confidently.
Elena trips on a rock as she tries to keep up. "God, I can't see anything." She says, trying to slow her down.
But Greta wasn't having any of it and used her magic to light fires all around them. With the light from the flames, Elena could make out someone lying on the ground. She rushes over to her and gasps when she realizes who it is.
"Jenna?" The doppelganger screams, "Jenna, Jenna! Jenna? Hey, hey, Jenna! Jenna!" She touches her aunt's wrist to try and find a pulse, but couldn't feel anything. "Oh, my God. No. Jenna! No!" She turned to Greta, "He killed her? Why? I did everything that he asked."
"She wasn't dead… then." Katherine smirks. Elijah gives her a reprimanding look, causing her to feel a hint of regret, not for Elena, but because of Elijah. But she quickly shook it off and sat up straighter.
"Shut up Katherine." Damon spat, rubbing Elena's back.
The doppelganger rolled her eyes, "Please, she should have known who she was messing with. I may have not had any idea, but Elena was warned by multiple people, who had centuries on her, and her puppies. So if one of them ended up barking up the wrong tree because she couldn't control them, then that's on her."
Just then Jenna woke up, causing Greta to smile. "She's not dead. She's in transition."
Damon got up from the floor, angry. "Should have used me. Why didn't he use me?"
"He couldn't. Damon, he said you were as good as dead." Katherine told him.
"What does that even mean?" Damon rolled his eyes.
"What does that mean?" Katherine repeated, but her eyes widened when she saw the bite on his arm. "What is this, Damon?"
"It's a werewolf bite." Damon revealed.
There are few episodes where I loved Klaus more. This is my favorite version of Klaus (not the wimpy 'Originals' one), where he literally had backup's, for his backup. Where he walked into a room and you knew to fear him. And then he got a show dedicated to his 'redemption' and decided to become a wuss. (Honestly, if you wanted the show to be about that so bad, why bother calling it the 'Originals' should have just called it 'Redemption' or 'The Miracle Unicron Baby' or the most fitting 'How To Ruin A Badass Character By Babytrapping Him').
I know it seems like I'm not making that many changes to the original TVD plot, but I promise major ones are coming (Especially once I start showing the future - not just the past). Because once I REALLY start making changes, they won't be reacting to TVD anymore, they'll basically be reacting to a fanfic I'm writing. But hey, what can I say aside from the fact that a Klaroliner (me) will be creating the plot here. I intend to keep the season 2, and half of season 3 episodes pretty canon, but after that, I'll be definitely driving off the train tracks.
And so far, I'm mostly just following the tvd lines for what they are 'watching' but once I start writing the fanfic, within the fanfic, I will start explaining their thoughts, and make the fanfic that they are reacting to, more descriptive.
This is honestly gonna be a lot harder, well not harder, but will take a lot longer than I originally thought. It took me literal days to write this out with all the tvd scenes, and them reacting to it. But the real fun will really begin when I start playing with the tvd plot.
Also, lets play a game, how many times someone's going to die (The ones watching). Damon's clearly in the lead (Spoiler - I think he's going to win).
I hear that both Candice and Joseph will be coming back for Legacies season 4 episode 20. But I also know (according to an article) that it will be "Directed by Michael A. Allowitz and penned by Julie Plec and Brett Matthews, the finale will see the aftermath of Hope and Lizzie's battle with Ken and we'll see what the future has in store for Ethan." As soon as I heard J.P's name I knew not to get my hopes up and that my Klaroline heart will probably end up breaking and/or disappointed.
Anyways,
KLAROLINE FOR LIFE BECAUSE I WILL GO DOWN WITH THIS SHIP!
