Title: Secret Santa
Summary: Reading the name from the slip of paper, he knows that this will be a Christmas to remember.
Sasuke eyes the black suede bag with disdain.
One by one his classmates eagerly plunge their hands in its dark opening to grab one of the tiny slips of paper that are waiting inside.
"Mister Uchiha," his homeroom teacher, a silver-haired man that constantly wears a medical mask, says as he comes to stand in front of the stoic boy.
Sasuke lets out a 'hn' in response, and reaches inside the bag. His fingertips brush over the numerous slips of papers until they find one in particular that stands out.
Grasping the little slip, he pulls it from the bag and reads the dainty cursive writing.
Sakura Haruno.
"Figures," he huffs aloud before crumbling the paper and shoving it into his pocket.
"Now class," Kakashi says as he stands at the front of the room. "The rules for Secret Santa are simple. All you have to do is buy a present that is ten ryo or less for the person whose name you drew. We will give our presents out this Friday, so that means you have four days to come up with something."
Sasuke glares daggers at the masked man. He had to have planned it out some how. All year the old pervert had been partnering Sasuke with Sakura for projects and had even mentioned some inappropriate insinuations about the two friends finally getting together.
When Kakashi notices Sasuke's glare, he merely gives him a knowing wink before returning to his desk at the front of the room.
The bell rings and the sound of chairs screeching across the floor soon follows.
Sasuke stands from his seat and stalks across the room, effectively avoiding the pink haired beauty that has been taunting him all year, but is instead intercepted by his blonde best friend.
"So, who'd ya get?" Naruto says while bouncing on his heels from excitement.
"It's called 'Secret Santa' for a reason, dobe."
"It's only secret to the person you have," the blonde interrupts himself. "Wait, did you get me? If so I want a year's supply of ramen and maybe a Snuggie, those things are awesome."
Sasuke shoots his friend a strange look before taking a deep breath to compose himself. "I didn't get you… Igotsakura."
"What?" Naruto asks, unable to make out the last, mumbled bit.
"I got Sakura," Sasuke enunciates more clearly, trying to keep his voice down.
"Lucky, that's so easy. You guys have been friends forever so you should know exactly what to get her. You can use this as the opportunity to finally tell her about your crush and quit acting like such a lovesick puppy."
"Don't you have class?" Sasuke asks, disconcerted by how loudly Naruto had said the last sentence.
"Oh crap! Asuma-sensei is going to kill me!" With that, the hyperactive teen runs off towards the science lab.
Thursday night comes around and Sasuke is pushing an old receipt across the counter for lady to look at.
Christmas shopping should be easy for the Uchiha, but a present could mean so many things, and as much as it pains him to admit it, Naruto had a point. This was finally his chance to show Sakura how much she means to him.
On Wednesday he had gone out and bought a red scarf with a matching pair of gloves, only for Sakura to come to school the next day wearing the exact same set. So now, here he is, fighting off the Christmas crowds as he searches for the perfect present.
He pockets the money he received from returning Sakura's would-be gift and scans the various display windows. The majority depict mannequins in Christmas sweaters building snowmen or sitting by the fire, and he rolls his eyes at the cliché of it.
He is about to lose hope and just buy her some nail polish when one display in particular catches his eye.
It is a small window lined with Christmas lights, and fake snow dusting the bottom. On a small white stand hangs a silver chain with a small heart dangling from the end. The heart itself is plain with a small diamond decorating the upper right-hand corner.
Looking at it makes him realize how perfect a present it is for her. Not flashy enough to be tacky, but meaningful enough to portray his feelings.
In a daze, he walks into the jewelry store and purchases the necklace, not flinching when the cash register displays an amount much larger than the ten ryo limit.
The cashier wraps the necklace up in a small red box and ties a silver ribbon around it before wishing Sasuke a 'Merry Christmas' and sending him on his way.
Friday morning before homeroom he nervously fiddles with the little red box on his desk.
"Alright class, time to exchange gifts,"
Everybody stands from the chairs and rushes to find out who their "Santa" is. Sasuke glances around the room to find Sakura standing by the classroom Christmas tree.
As he slowly walks over to her, his palms begin to sweat and he has to mentally scold himself to get a grip.
She smiles at him and holds up a small slip of paper with his named scrawled across it.
"So, I'm guessing we got each other," she says, noticing how his arms hide the red box behind his back.
"I guess so."
"I got a special present for you, so how about we give them to each other at the same time," she suggests with a wink.
"Okay," Sasuke replies.
"One…" she begins to count, "two… three!"
Sasuke thrusts the box forward into her hands as she leans forward and presses her lips against his.
His eyes widen at her bold move and he feels a slight blush begin to burn his face.
Sakura pulls back and opens her eyes. "Merry Christmas, Sasuke-kun," she tells him.
"Merry Christmas," he says back, fighting the uncharacteristic urge to stutter. He presses his gift more firmly in her hands, coaxing her to open it.
After elegantly easing off the ribbon, she opens the box, revealing the silver necklace. "Oh my gosh," she exclaims in shock. "It's beautiful."
"Turn around," Sasuke orders, taking the chain from her hands.
She faces the window and Sasuke clasps it around her neck.
"It's snowing," she observes with a small smile, and Sasuke can't help himself from lowering his face to hers and kissing her once again.
And as she kisses him back, he realizes that fate could come in the form of a ridiculous black bag filled with meaningless slips of paper.
But, I guess they weren't that meaningless now, where they, he thinks as the taste of cherry fills his mouth.
"Finally," Naruto tells his homeroom teacher as they watch the couple by the tree.
"It's all thanks to your plan," Kakashi tells the blonde boy.
"Well, it was obvious that they both liked each other, they just needed a way to finally admit it."
"Now Uzumaki," the teacher says, eying a blushing, dark haired girl standing across the room, "let's talk about you and Miss Hyuuga."
Merry Christmas, everybody! Hope you have safe and wonderful holidays!
