My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue
All's well that ends well to end up with you
Lover, TS
Dawn stared blankly at the ceiling, her head spinning out of control. She knew that peach coloured ceiling, having started at it for nights she spend with him, counting hours when she couldn't fall asleep. She closed her eyes, the lights hurting her eyes and, her heart thumping wildly against her chest. She didn't know what to do.
Well she knew what she had to do but leaving without telling him anything was not on her bucket list when she started her day.
A part of her wanted to reach across and check whether the person to whom the room belonged to was still there or not but the other, sane part of her didn't want to do anything to wake him up, if he was there.
'I shouldn't have done that,' She thought to herself and bit her lips, slowly opening her eyes, the light still blinding her.
'I have to pick up Oli,' She made a mental note to herself. Then another thought came over her.
She slowly got up, watching the room silently. Thank god he wasn't here.
Now only if she could sneak away… She found her phone on the table and picked it up, opened her purse to check if she had her house keys. Once she found everything in its place, she shoved the phone back into the purse, planning to go away without catching anyone's eye.
"Hey there."
The voice coming from the door got her attention and she stopped in her tracks, her fingers clutching the purse as if her whole life depended on it.
"Running away, Dawn?"
"I can't do that now, can I?"
She bit her lower lip to calm herself down. She wanted to walk away from there gracefully but she knew she couldn't do that with the alcohol in her system and the double vision in her eyes.
"See," Dawn spoke up, breaking the silence to address the elephant in the room,"I am so glad that you came to pick me up. Thank you for that."
"And…?"
Dawn watched him silently, noticing the slight smile on his lips. That goddamn hot smile was making her even more irritated. "And, I gotta go. I have some work to do."
"Like meeting up with Ash?"
The name took her by surprise. "Ray, why would you even say that?"
Shrugging it off, Ray entered the room and sat down on the bed, patting the space next to him. Dawn turned away and began walking towards the door, taking his lack of answer as the ultimatum.
"You know why I said that."
.
Few hours earlier
Dawn quickly tied her hair up in a ponytail and took a final glance in the mirror. The lavender dress hugged her comfortably and she applied a little make up to make herself more presentable. She heard Oli meowing from the bed and looked back, catching the brown feline staring at her.
"What are you looking at?"
The cat got up and stretched, then curled up again into a ball again, closing her eyes. Dawn let out a laugh, saying,"Not according to your taste, huh?"
She could hear the doorbell ring and quickly walked out, finding Leaf and Gary standing there with a wide grin on their faces.
"You look so good Dawn," Leaf gave Dawn a hug, coming in,"I guess you're ready to go?"
Dawn nodded,"Thank you. You look so pretty yourself!"
"Okay, I'll leave you two ladies to have fun," Gary laughed, extending his hand towards Dawn,"Hand me the cat."
"Olivia. Her name is Olivia." Dawn shook her head, laughing,"Are you sure about taking her to Ash's place?"
Gary gave her a two finger salute,"Yep Madam. We had our bachelor party last night and he is still hungover. And I have nothing else to do with Leaf spending the day with you guys so I'll go disturb him."
"You're a big help, Gary," Dawn said, engulfing him into a hug, taking him by surprise,"Thanks."
"Welcome."
Dawn put Oli into the carrier and took her purse. Getting out of the room, she handed the carrier to Gary and gave him a small bump on the arms,"Congratulations though. I will pick her up after the party, okay? Be safe."
"Okay Grandma," Gary teased her, getting a chuckle out of Leaf.
Dawn just rolled her eyes at them.
After Gary left with Oli, Dawn turned to Leaf, giving her a thumbs up,"He looks so much more matured."
"He does?" Leaf sounded unsure,"He always does stupid thing around the house though."
"Yeah, because he is comfortable around you."
"Maybe," Leaf trailed off,"The house looks so good! Damn girl, must have been a nice deal."
Nodding in affirmation, Dawn made her way into the kitchen,"Do you want anything? Coffee? Tea? Wine?"
"Nope but we should leave soon, May must be waiting for us."
"Yeah." Dawn collected her keys and began walking out, followed by Leaf.
"Ash spent the night here a few weeks ago, didn't he?"
Out of all the questions or conversation starters she was expecting, this was definitely not it. "He told you that?"
Leaf shrugged, a smirk on her lips,"Maybe."
"I was sick," Dawn began,"He was just taking care of me and you know, since he is a doctor, he couldn't just leave a patient like that. Yeah." Dawn could feel her heart speed up as she said that. Obviously Ash was just doing it because he was bound by the oath he took as a doctor, no hidden meaning behind it.
Leaf watched as Dawn slowly turned the car on and put on her seatbelt. Dawn was so easy to read that she couldn't help but tease the poor woman. "I think he did that because it was you."
"He would have done that for anyone."
The passing sceneries were not distracting Dawn like she was hoping for. The tone of Leaf's voice would just give her the wrong idea, she knew it.
"No, Ash wouldn't do that for anyone. Yeah he would take care of sick people but staying the whole night to make sure that the person is okay and well cared off, he would just do it for the person to whom he is really attached to."
Dawn didn't say anything. She didn't know what to say. So she kept driving in silence, praying that Leaf would leave the topic alone. She didn't want to be alone with her thoughts. Atleast not with the thoughts she had about him.
"Am I going in the right direction?" Dawn asked, glancing over the passenger's seat. She found Leaf going through her phone.
"According to the map, yes," Leaf added, her eyes on the phone,"Take the next left then left again. Then straight for around half a kilometre."
"Okay."
It took them around ten minutes to reach their destination. Dawn got out of the car and parked in the parking lot. "So," she said as she walked into the hotel May had booked for Leaf's bachelorette party,"This is where May wanted us to meet?"
Leaf, who was walking beside her nodded and spoke up,"The fifth room on seventh floor. I don't even know what May has in store for us."
"For you," Dawn raised her hand in surrender,"I am not going to get too much drunk because I do need to take care of you guys."
"You stay this everytime but at the end of the day, you're the one who gets hammered the most." Leaf laughed, the small turquoise ring on her finger shining in the light. She pointed at the elevator near the stairs and Dawn began walking towards it, following after Leaf.
"That's a nice ring," Dawn commented, ignoring the comment about her drinking issues with an eye roll.
"It's my something blue and something old," Leaf extended her hand so Dawn could get a close look at it. Dawn took Leaf's hand in her own and looked at it with keen interest. The ring was made of gold, with the turquoise gem carved into small oval shape, lined up with small diamond rings.
"It looks expensive," Dawn added,"And very pretty."
"Seriously?" Leaf teased her,"Expensive for you? Heh?"
Dawn rolled her eyes again, this time playfully,"I don't like buying jewellery that much. Most stuff I have are from gifts."
"Hmm," Leaf placed a finger over her lips, deep in thought,"What about the earrings then?"
The poor girl shifted her gaze in other direction, embarrassed,"About that, I like collecting earrings."
"Those are still pieces of jewellery, you know," Leaf let out a grin,"Anyway, this ring was passed down from Gary's grandma to her mother. Now it's mine. That sort of thing."
"Since you are just the temporary holder of this ring," Dawn asked, stepping into the elevator after Leaf,"Doesn't this make it your 'something borrowed' too?"
"Is that how it works?" Leaf shrugged,"I don't know."
They two of them watched the elevator door open and saw May standing outside it, grinning widely. Leaf rushed out of the space to give the other brunette a hug and Dawn stepped out with a smile on her face, her heels clicking on the marbled floor.
"You look fabulous!" May said, breaking the hug,"This shade of olive green suits you!" Then turning her attention to Dawn, she exclaimed,"Did you get even taller?" On seeing Dawn shake her head in denial, May said,"I swear you look so much taller than the last time I saw you!"
"Must be because of the heels?"
May began leading them towards the room,"This dress that you are wearing! I saw the famous model Cynthia wear it! Damn you look so pretty in this."
"Says the girl who is rocking the sparkling dress."
May grinned a little and spinned to show off her dress. " You think so?"
Dawn gave her a thumbs up. "Yep. You look so good! Never thought that anyone could pull off a sparkling dress like this."
May laughed,"Even Drew didn't compliment me this much when he saw that dress. Thanks a lot Dawnie."
May was a pretty girl, there was no denying it. And now, with age and maturity, she looked even more breathtaking and beautiful, her curves adding an additional charm to her. The silver sparkling dress hugged her figure perfectly and Dawn couldn't help but feel she was dressed more... formally for this occasion in her simple lavender dress.
"Thank you so much for coming here today, Dawn," Leaf added as they entered the room while May disappeared into one of the rooms.
"Ok course," Dawn gave her a genuine smile,"I had to come. Leaf, you're starting a new point in your life and that too, at such a young age."
"Even you think that I'm too young for marriage?"
Dawn did a double take, shocked a little,"No, I mean... you know, I… I can never imagine getting married at such a young age. That's why-"
Seeing Dawn fumble over her words, Leaf spoke up. "I have known Gary since we were kids. And ever since we started dating-" Leaf halted infront of the door, her hand lingering on the knob for a little too long,"I knew he was going to be the one. My endgame."
"That's nice, isn't it?"
Leaf nodded, a smile of gratefulness covering up her face. "Yeah. I keep hearing that I'm getting married way too early but you know, I'm glad that at the end of the day, I can go home to the person I love the most. I might regret this in the future or I might be happier, no one knows. Why should I let the uncertainty of future decide whether I deserve to be happy in the present or not?"
Dawn nodded silently and walked in the room after Leaf, watching as May lead the bride to be towards the table which was filled up with food and a big cake. Looking around, she found a lot of familiar faces but decided to take the most safe option and walked over to Misty, intrigued by the loose clothing she was wearing. Misty had a glass of water in her hand as she was sitting at the couch, watching May put on a "Bride-to-be" sash around Leaf.
"Hey there Dawnie," Misty said,"You look good."
"You are glowing," Dawn was in awe,"Misty, are you pregnant?"
"No?"
Dawn quickly shut her mouth, feeling stupid and guilty,"Oh my god, I'm so sorry, I didn't-"
"Relax honey," Misty broke into fit of giggles,"I am pregnant."
"Seriously?"
Misty nodded, laughing at Dawn's awestruck face,"Yes. I'm around 3 months pregnant."
"Oh my god," Dawn almost leaped to engulf Misty in a hug,"Congratulations! Who is the father?"
"Tracey," A soft smile adorned her face as she said the name,"I don't think you have met him. He is a very nice guy."
"Oh my god," Dawn still couldn't believe what she was hearing,"I am..oh god, this is so sweet!"
"I know right," The redhead rubbed her belly with adoration,"I can't wait to meet the little guy ."
"You will be a great mother!" Dawn could feel her excitement leaking through her voice. "Your kid is going to be so cute."
"Motherhood is making her glow, isn't it?" Serena said as she approached the group,"I can't wait to meet Misty Junior or Tracey Junior, whatever wins the race."
"Are you going to find out the gender?" Dawn asked.
Shaking her head, Misty answered,"Not sure about that, to be honest. I guess we will find out when we find out? Or if the curiousity gets the better of us, then we might go for it. The food looks so appealing through, want to go irritate May so she can start this party already?"
"I can hear you guys, you know," May added from the other side of the room,"Anyway ladies, take a seat. I am gonna start with the necessary boring prelude."
Dawn poured herself a glass of white wine then took a seat beside Misty, sipping the wine slowly. Her eyes wandered towards the custom-made cookies and pastries and she could feel her stomach waiting in anticipation.
May made Leaf sit at the centre of the room, surrounded by the other girls. "I have known you since we were kids, I have seen you getting your heart broken by the playboy Gary and I have seen you getting your heart put back together by the same boy. I have seen you cry over not getting good marks and I have seen you achieving your dream job. I have witnessed every small incident which made you cry and I have seen you make the biggest decisions of your life without any hesitation. Leaf," May clasped her hands together, her face showing all the love and adoration she had for her best friend,"I am so happy that you're starting this chapter in your life with the love of your life. I am so happy that you chose me to be your maid of honour. I mean, if you ended up choosing another one, then I am pretty sure I would bring hell on earth so you're safe in that regard."
"I knew you were a serial killer in disguise," Leaf fake gasped,"Haww."
May just winked at the brunette. "I also want to thank everyone who came here today," May looked around the room,"Serena, Michelle, Misty, Zoey, and obviously Dawn. Today, we will make sure Leaf has the most fun she had ever had in her entire life!"
Misty turned to Dawn, saying,"Since you didn't go shopping with us, be prepared to see a very red Leaf now."
"Okey?" Dawn turned back to see May grabbing a package from the table.
"Here," May passed Leaf a package which was packed neatly with teddy bear designed wrapping paper. "This is from us. Your something new."
"Oh my," Leaf slowly began to tear away the wrapping, making sure not to destroy the edges. "A cardigan?"
"With our initials on it," May said, her hand on Leaf's shoulder. "Whenever you are cold or sad, you can wear this. That way you'll remember that if you could handle us, you can handle anything life throws at you."
Leaf ran her fingers over the smooth, white texture of the cloth, admiring the pattern in silence. "You put a lot of thought into this, didn't you?"
"Open the packet underneath before coming to conclusions Stupid."
Leaf slowly pulled out the package, opening the opaque covering to get the stuff. Her face instantly heated up on seeing the thing.
"MAY!"
"And this sexy black lingerie to make your honeymoon even adventurous! Thank me later!"
Dawn burst out laughing, getting elbowed from Misty, who was also trying to keep her laugh under control.
"I have an active and satisfactory sex life, thank you very much," Leaf slowly put the thing away,"Why would-"
"Oh geez Miss Uptight," May shrugged,"It is just to spice up things. I was thinking about adding a few other toys but Serena and Zoey stopped me."
"Oh lord!" Leaf hid her face with her palm, embarrassed,"Gary would never let me forget this."
"Which reminds me," May kept up her assault,"Those stuff would make very good wedding gifts from the best friend, wouldn't it?"
"MAY!"
"Stop teasing the poor girl," Serena added with a laugh,"You would lose the element of surprise if you say what you're planning to do."
"Good point," May did a two finger salute towards the honey blonde girl.
"No May!" Leaf shook her head,"Don't even think about it. You know how Gary is!"
"I don't!" May put a hand over her mouth,"Geez girl, keep your sex life to yourself."
Dawn couldn't help but feel her heart getting full with all the laughter around the room. Everyone looked so happy and excited. Even though Leaf was getting teased like crazy, she could tell that the bride didn't mind anything.
She was thankful that she came here.
"Now, we all are going to honour the tradition of getting pissed off drunk and play some games with the bachelorette because the next time we are going to meet Leaf, she will be happily married. Hopefully."
May made everyone sit in a big circle around the table, putting a big bottle of wine between them.
"First we will start with never have I ever and make sure our girl gets totally hammered." The bottle was passed around and everyone filled their cup up to the brim. Leaf turned to Misty and laughed,"I'll get you some other juice, give me a moment."
Dawn shoved the pomegranate juice, brought for Misty, in her direction and Misty gave the girls a thankful smile.
"So, I'll go first!" Serena spoke up,"Never have I ever tried the mile high club."
May quietly sipped her wine, followed by Leaf and Zoey. Dawn watched around the table and saw everyone else watching the ones drinking in awe. She quietly picked her glass up and took a sip.
"Zoey?" Serena was amazed,"Never thought you would-"
"Hush."
"Okaaaay," May clicked her tongue,"Interesting development. I'll go next. Never have I ever made out in a public place."
Leaf was shooting daggers at May as she quietly sipped her drink. She was followed by Misty and then Dawn.
"Okay then," Zoey began,"Never have I ever sex-texted my partner."
"Oh come on," Leaf groaned as she took another sip, followed by Dawn, May and Misty. Serena was looking at the girls in awe.
"Woah."
"Never have I ever," Misty began,"Skipped class to make out with my boyfriend."
"Why are you guys ganging up on me?" Leaf groaned as she took another shot.
"I guess my turn?" Dawn asked, grateful that she didn't have to take the previous shot. If this continues, she will end up way more drunk then anyone else. "Never have I ever been handcuffed by someone other than the police."
"I told you that in secrecy," Leaf took another sip and a laugh escaped her lips,"Aay Sereeeena, niceeee."
Serena turned away to hide her blushing face, mumbling something under her breath.
"Never have I ever," Leaf said, sitting up straight,"Lied to my parents to spend time with my partner."
"Trying to get us all in one go huh?" May laughed, taking another sip. She was followed by Dawn, Misty and Serena.
Zoey clicked her tongue in amusement. "Never have I ever swallowed it."
"Zoey!" Leaf could feel herself turning crimson,"Come on."
Zoey watched in amazement as every other person in the room took a sip. Dawn could already feel the effect of the drink in her system.
She could feel herself getting lightweight, her head high on clouds. Her heart was already full of content before but now she could feel the stress in her melting as she let out a small, sheepish giggle. "Never have I everrrrr kissed a girl."
Leaf took a sip, followed by Zoey. Dawn wiggled her eyebrows at Zoey,"Who was she?"
"My current girlfriend?"
Dawn nodded in amazement,"How does kissing a girl feel? Better than kissing a boy?"
Zoey shrugged, understanding the effect of alcohol coursing through Dawn's veins. "It feels good if you love the person."
"Niceee," Dawn closed her eyes, wondering,"I want to kiss Ash so much at the moment."
All the eyes turned to her but she was still lost in her daydreams. Leaf could feel the effect of alcohol washing away after hearing that,"Why do you want to kiss him?"
Dawn opened her eyes, feeling stars dance infront of her. Why? She didn't know why. All she knew was that she wanted to kiss him. Hold his face and sniff his cologne. Mark him as her own. She didn't want him to be just another ex-love who would go on seperate paths one day. She didn't want him to be someone else's. Oh god, letting him go for the first time almost killed her. And now, when he was so close, almost within her reach, she didn't want to loosen her grip.
She hated what she was feeling. The jealous and overwhelming need of owning him was so strong that she just couldn't keep it to herself.
She wanted him.
All of him.
"I don't know," She shook her head, as if doing that would give her the answer she was looking for,"Ever since he came back, all I want to do is..."
Misty, who was the most sober out of the lot, couldn't believe what she was hearing. She could feel all the eyes staring at Dawn. Heck, even she was fixated on what Dawn would say. She could feel her heart thumping wildly in anticipation,"Dawn, what do you want to do?"
"Make him mine. Again."

Hey guyssss! How are you all?
How was reading the first part? Are you all angry? Intrigued? Gonna hunt me down with a sword? XD
I had you all in the first half, didn't I? XD
I have been playing a game called Genshin Impact and oh my godddddddddd… there's so much of grinding in the game. It has been around a month since I started playing and in the recent event, a chibi character named Klee can be obtained by wishing. I was wishing for her so baaad but ended up with another character. I could keep wishing but the chances of getting her are very low, like 0.06% per wish. But oh my god, I got Klee within next five wishes. Feels like I have used up my whole life's luck in there XD. I was so surprised and happy, couldn't stop grinning the whole night.
I just wanna thank the person who introduced me to this game and has been helping me with stuff even though he has actually no reason to. I ask him various stupid questions and he sits and explains them to me without making me feel stupid. Not only that, he will listen patiently while I keep complaining about everything and nothing. So, if you're reading this AN(which I know you are), listen very carefully. I'm so so so glad that we became friends and more. Wishing you a very very very 'Happy Birthday'.
