First year of Hogwarts and Regulus Black was nervous. His brother Sirius had broken the family tradition by being sorted into Gryffendor instead of Slytherin. It wasn't in him to disappoint the family that way, was it?
They had arrived at the station and were going through the crowd to the train when Regulus noticed someone who should not be there. Fenrier Greyback was standing with a girl next to him, his hands on a trolly that held a trunk, a sack, and a cage with a sleeping owl. It seemed that Greyback had tried to make himself more presentable with having combed his wild hair and washed, but the shabbiness of his robes and general wildness was hard to hide.
The girl next to him had the same dark hair, but her eyes were grey without the blue of Greybacks and her face was slightly pale under the tan. Her clothes were beaten jeans and a torn but carefully patched shirt. She seemed to be shaking slightly and was holding onto Greyback's arm. Then the crowd shifted and the pair disappeared in the throng.
Looking back at his mother Regulus focused on what she was saying, "Remember, you are a Black. Make sure your behavior is fitting for this family."
Sirius was already with his friends at the train. So after finishing her speech Regulus's mother allowed him to get and put his trunk and owl on the train. Pushing it until he found a compartment with space he put his things up and went out to get a few last instructions from his parents. Coming back he saw the girl who had been with Greyback sitting in a seat by the window. She quickly got up, "I'll leave."
He raised a hand, "It's alright. I thought this was empty."
She nodded, "So did I."
Stepping forward, "Well I think there is enough room to share." Extending a hand, "Regulus Black."
Smiling shyly she took it, "Adaline Greyback." Looking closely for his reaction, "My Uncle." She responded to the unspoken question about if/how she was related to Fenrier.
There was an awkward moment before they let go and Regulus asked, "Which side of chairs would you like?" She laughed and sat down again with him across from her. Then they started comparing stories about what Hogwarts was supposed to be like.
