Hey look, it's back! I was planning on doing Fur Hire instead, but my temporary co-writer has been having some laptop troubles, so I'm focusing on other stories instead. Good for all of us? Either way, I'm writing something.
Today, things happen!
Chapter 5: Battling Boredom
OR
I Might Have Lied
4 days had passed since that profitable day, and Geo had fallen into a new routine.
Wake up, have breakfast and do an hour or two of his Tutorman training, then head out for the day. From there he would either work at depopulating the local virus populations, or explore the various Wave holes dotting Echo Ridge, talking with the various who seemed more than willing to share about their days and jobs.
Some even went so far as to give him various data packets or shards they had gathered that they couldn't use themselves, which resulted in both some Battle Cards he didn't already have, and something shocking called an HP memory, which was what amounted to an armor upgrade for his general form.
Geo was understandably shocked that something like that existed, and that is was just being given away, but was quickly told that the types of being who could both find the rare fragments and actually use them were somewhere between 1 in every 100 million, so most just shunted them off to the side as almost their equivalent to a collectors item.
It also raised the question of if other such data fragments existed that could increase other attributes, but that was a question to put on the wayside for now.
Right now, Geo was finishing up the last part of his new found routine; Dealing with Mega's whining.
"C'MON KID! I like crushing the small fry as much as the next guy, keeps the claws sharp, but I need SOMETHING to break the monotony! Day in, day out, the same thing and people! Don't kids like you want to go on adventures or something? I think I read something like that the other day."
Geo stared down at his Transfer with half-lidded eyes, watching the EM-being dart from one side of the screen to the other like a hyperactive child. Why couldn't he have stuck with that 'mysterious warrior from space' thing he had a few days ago? Was this his fault?
"I need to start looking over what you're reading. In case you missed it, this is all still brand new to me, and we're diving into different Wave holes every day. It's also only been three days." Geo pointed out as he walked down the sidewalk, avoiding the people in his way with the ease of long practice. At most, it sounded like he was just another kid calling his friend and talking about some video game.
"Exactly my point! The first day I could understand, but you haven't even gone anywhere since! I tell you that we can race around the world in a blink of an eye, and you keep to the same old stomping ground!? it's driving me batty!" Mega suddenly pointed as if it was obvious, which, okay, was a valid point.
The impulse to travel to some far out corner of the globe or another country was definitely there, but call it some fear of being alone somewhere completely different, call it a bit of caution of unknown threats, Geo just wasn't ready to take that kind of step so casually. Not until he had some stronger fire power.
Which would also take a bit, what with Big Wave owner having shut down the store for the Winter as he vacationed in Alohaha. Geo still didn't really get why the shop wasn't just run while he went away, but chalked it up to an eccentric rich guy doing what he wanted. Still, it really wasn't THAT bad of a request all things considered, and there were some things Geo wanted to check out now too...
Plus it would finally shut Mega up, which was a good reason in and of itself. The reason that he had a dog-shaped muzzle was never as clear as when he was whining, Geo had quickly discovered.
"Well...it has been a while since I've been to AMAKEN, and I'm sure we could see all kinds of cool things while we're there." Geo hesitantly suggested, trying to remember when he could call and not interrupt anything important.
Mega, for his part, was ecstatic that his whining had worked.
"ALRIGHT! It'll be good to see more of this planet! I got an alright view of the place when I was in orbit, but was a bit too busy dodging to get much more than that. Reading's okay in a pinch, but it's always better to get down and dirty in a place to find out what you need." He grinned wildly, again easily drawing a parallel to a dog that saw its leash.
Geo wondered if he could get a tail on the EM-Being if he installed some pet accessory data...
"Wha-oi! Don't do that! Who you calling a dog! Geo! Oi! Ooooiiii!"
Whoops, said that bit out loud.
END OF CHAPTER
These continue to be shorter than I like, but it keeps the story moving, and does what I want it to do. I have fun writing it, you have fun reading it, that's what a story should do. As always, I always love discussion and reviews, if'n ya please.
Hope you all have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!
