I'm going back through my other stories a bit and deciding to breath some more life into them. I got a bit disheartened by the general lack of response this story got compared to my other stuff, but by this point I'm doing this just as much for my own enjoyment as all of you, so, yaknow. Dividing line of incentive.
In any case, THE FUCKING DUCK FROM ABOVE! You all know what minigame I'm talking about.
Chapter 7: Swansong Sucks
OR
One Bird With One Gun Is A Fair Trade
"Be careful Kid. This is serious." Mega's growl sounded off in Geo's ear even as his jaws locked in a menacing growl.
Even without it though, Geo would have still been tense at the being before him. Rather than the typical Virus he had been slowly adapting to reading and breaking down, this guy...was closer to Omega-Xis in style.
A sharp, spear-like beak leading into a smoothed back faceplate with piercing red eyes, leading into a lightish teal energy that itself suffused and seemed supported by a similarly colored chest plate. His eyes...Geo wasn't really sure, but he imagined they were a bit like his own when he Wave-Changed.
Analytical. Taking in and weighing of every detail for the best points to strike in the least amount of time. He was NOT a fan of it.
Then the being who could be nothing but an FM-ian spoke again, faceplate completely motionless as instead his eyes and wings fluctuated minutely, somehow conveying a signal Geo was recognizing as words. It was fascinated, but incredibly uncanny.
"Ahh, there is our little runaway. Bonded with a native have we? No wonder our trackers lost your scent with a shield like that available. Still, as clever as you can be, you are still just another battle-hungry brute unable to stay still, no? I knew if I waited at the nearest Wave Hub I'd catch you again..." The swan-like being almost seemed to croon as its wings spread wide from their closed position, revealing two individual 'feathers' that looked sharp as any knife, making Geo grit his teeth even as Mega let loose a grim chuckle at the response.
"Ha! Guess I am a bit predictable, but hey, finding me is the easy part. Think you can actually stop me, Cygnus?" Mega jeered right back, making Geo simultaneously want to either smack him for egging on an obvious enemy or just reach forward and get this over with.
The now named Cygnus's eyes flashed again, conveying no words but instead a wave of almost pure annoyance and contempt as they narrowed, before it suddenly dispersed as he fluttered his wings as if preening.
"Hmph. You always were good for a joke. Do you truly think a Denpa Henkan has changed that much between us? Enhancement or not, you are still just another passing star compared to my brilliance." Cygnus huffed, and Geo couldn't hold his tongue anymore.
"And who ever said he was alone." The words spoken were harsh, tined with frustration and no small amount of caution, but even that was vanishing quickly as his mind raced through and thusly discarded reasons why and how he would be avoiding a fight here, instead preparing for what was certainly going to be the future.
Cygnus's red eyes widened for a moment, before, without warning, his head rocked straight upward as his wings spiked wildly, sending out peal upon peal of unrestrained laughter.
"PFfffftta-hahaha! You aren't even in control of the Denpa Henkan! Oh, Omega-Xis, I didn't think my opinion of you could go any lower, but you always did manager to surprise me! Some little meatsack as the driving personality, oh, if I told the commander this-"
"Long Sword."
Within moments, Mega's head was replaced with a sword that had more in common with a lance than an ordinary blade as it sliced directly through the space formerly occupied by Cygnus's long neck, the FM-ian having hastily aborted his monologue with a startled squawk, Frequency Changing to a higher road in that split second.
Geo's eyes were locked on the now silent FM-ian, Cygnus's wing-tip lightly tracing the small nick that was still tainted green along his neck, before it was smoothed over with his normal teal-colored energy, his attention now firmly focused on Geo while Mega shot him a smug look.
"...Hmm. You. You are surprisingly dangerous, Boy. If I was anyone else, I'd have been cut stem to stern." Cygnus spoke casually, as if it was an everyday occurrence.
"Next time I'll make sure I hit then." Geo shot back just as casually.
The silence was oppressively, broken up only by the sounds of the oblivious workers and programs going about their daily lives around them.
Finally, Cygnus made an off clicking sound, sounding somewhere between a clack of a beak and two pieces of metal grinding together.
"You always did have a habit of making problems much larger than yourself Omega-Xis. Why am I surprised that you continue to do so? In any case, this calls for a change of plans, because I'm never one to fight a battle already lost. Enjoy your little glimpse of the true world, Boy. I'll be back to put things right in no time." Then, in a flash of whitish-blue light, Cygnus was a blur of Waves joining back into the stream of thousands, potentially anywhere in the world.
Geo let loose the breath he didn't know he had been holding, suddenly aware of his shaking hand, the hammering of his heart in his ears, and the empty feeling in the pit of his stomach.
That...was the first time he had ever actually attacked something with guaranteed sentience with the intent to destroy. No, destroying was a word meant for things that didn't think, feel, want, suffer.
Geo...was ready to kill.
He felt like vomiting, but given that he didn't have a stomach as an EM Being he settled for falling to his knees on the railroad and gripping for dear life, feeling like he was suddenly too far in a place he never wanted to be. Mega was trying to say something, but Geo wasn't listening. He couldn't.
He. He needed to get Home.
He needed his Mom.
...He needed his Dad.
