Chapter 8: Emotions? Runaway!
OR
Red Flags? Oh, Don't Worry About Those
For the next few days after Geo's...encounter, he refused to Denpa Henkan at all. He completely ignored Mega's increasingly desperate attempts to talk and explain.
He just wanted some space. He needed, some space.
Geo knew, intellectually, that this was some form or another of depression from his long term grappling with the concept by this point, but whatever you wanted to call it hit him like a ton of bricks, and not like the familiar gut-blow he'd had years practicing covering up.
It just really struck home to him, in that one moment, just what he had been about to do. So, easily, naturally, with minimal lip service to what was nominally a threat. This wasn't like a Virus, who's entire existence could be summed up to 'Attack, Break Down, Propagate, Repeat', this was a living, thinking being, if a slightly spooky one.
Geo felt his hands clench his shorts as he stared at the twilight sky, eyes tracing where he knew the constellations would reveal themselves to be as if trying to divine some form of truth. But there was no such luck.
Just him, and his stupid feelings. What else was new.
"Kid. Geo. I get that this was a lot to deal with with little warning, but you can't just shut me out. Not just because it's annoying, but because this isn't a problem you can ignore. I, am not a problem you can ignore." Geo tuned out Mega's damnably accurate words as he looked down at his Transfer, eyes trailing over the alien calling it home on his screen picking at his jaws with a claw.
"Explain to me exactly what a Denpa Henkan does. To me." The words were simple, but they had been tumbling around his head for days now, stewing and bubbling and knocking everything out of whack.
Because it was a simple question he had never bothered to ask. Why would he?
It all felt so natural.
But that was the problem, because no part of that should have been anywhere NEAR natural. Geo was a 10 year old suburban boy who closest encounters with violence before all this could be summed up as a smattering of video games and that one wrestling match he was too lazy to change the channel from once. That didn't explain a damn thing about how he was able to shred Virus ass so effectively.
Mega was silent for a moment, before leaving the Transfer with a quiet, staticed sigh.
"You're avoiding the real problem here, but its still a fair question that I knew would come sooner or later." Mega scratched the back of his head as he shut his eyes in thought, before nodding.
"Denpa Henkan is the calmative fusion state between a Wave Being, and a Physical Being. By forming a connection with the Psychical Being by way of emotions or, ideally, similar wavelengths, the form of an Wave Being gains substance, and thus an incredible conduit to use our powers, often allowing completely new effects. This also generally puts the host into some form or another of half-consciousness either because their connection is forced due to outside circumstances, or the host isn't strong enough to support us. When we first met...I won't lie, I thought I would borrow your form and use it to beat back the viruses before dropping you off somewhere safer we could talk." Mega admitted to his original thoughts.
Geo shouldn't have been surprised, and honestly he wasn't, but the flinch at the thought of him suddenly blacking out and waking up somewhere ese still make him clench a fist before he forced it back flat.
"So what was different then." Geo was able to make himself say, but even then it felt wooden, like he was hearing everything from five feet away from it all.
Mega shook his head at the question.
"What was different was just how damn high our compatibility was and is. I knew we would be at least compatible enough to do it because I could with Kelvin, but something about you an me...click, to a degree I've never even heard of. Most times when a Denpa Henkan happens, the resulting form is influenced by the FM-ian and what they value. Cygnus always goes for sleek forms that extend his use of his wings or beak, Taurus is a front-line breaker who makes the biggest and bulkiest target he can to smash open fronts, so on and so forth. But WE, didn't. Our form, which we should really name at some point if even just for sake of ease, doesn't follow this in the slightest. We're literally in your body to the same dimensions, with the only influences of my own leaking through being my armor and damn head in place of just ONE of your hands. YOU retain control. YOU, have the ability to call on MY abilities despite the fact it should be the other way around, with my skills being influenced by your being. This is a weird ass situation for both of us, and has tons of consequences neither of us probably see, just as well as upsides." Mega took a moment to rub his eyes, looking Geo in the eyes even as he relaxed, even if just minutely.
"I think personally, the fact we're so closely linked when we Henkan is what set you off on Cygnus the other day. I know EXACTLY how much of a threat Cygnus is and the the kind of stunts he'd pull to get at either one of us, so when he actually got within range of us, and put you on edge like he rightfully should, I think your body did like mine would. You saw the opening, and you took it. It doesn't make you a monster, or mean you suddenly will start doing this to everyone."
Geo didn't so much sigh as he did let out a long breath.
Still...
"That, would explain a few things. And I'm grateful for even just that, but. But it still feels like an excuse, that I attacked someone just because 'our instincts' said it was okay. It feels like an easy out for something that could have serious consequences." He half-muttered under his breath, but Mega still heard him. What, was he not going to listen when it was just the damn two of them?
"So make new instincts. Sharpen our might till we can move in a second in a way that won't bifurcate an enemy. It sounds like a lot of work for nothing to me, but its important to you, so work towards it." Mega pointed it out as if it was easy, and as Geo blinked at the option, maybe it even was.
Muscles that were tense for the last few days finally loosened, and the haze that clouded his head cleared with resolute purpose. Geo would make sure he never did something like that again to a person.
Not while he had any other choice.
MEANWHILE...
"Mrooo-hohohoo! Man, the meatlings on this little dirtball are sure stupid, but damn if they don't know how to make fun toys! *Snort*! Faster, faster you little bugger, I Got A NEED FOR SPEED! Mroo-hooohohoho!"
Another day was approaching
END OF CHAPTER
I'll be completely honest, I meant for this to come a lot earlier, and maybe a bit longer, but Legends of Arceus came out and Jesus Christ it's so damn fun. So I worked on this in between game time and work time, so, yaknow. I still feel good about getting this out as quickly as I did. Hope you all feel the same.
