Year 2234-

At the age of 4 Izuku Midoriya wanted to be a hero just like any kid his age. He wanted to be a hero just like the number one hero All Might. And finally today was the day he will find out what his quirk is. He was super excited until…

"Sorry kid it's not gonna happen," said the doctor.

The doctor told them that Izuku was quirkless. Just like that, Izuku's world was shattered. He just sat there with a blank expression on his face.

When he got home he went to his room and watched his favorite video of All Might on repeat. His mother came in and asked if he needed anything.

He then turned to her on the verge of tears and said, "Mom, do you think I can still be a hero?"

That broke her. She ran to him and said, "I'm sorry Izuku I wish things could be different!"

Year 2240-

It has been 6 years since Izuku had been told of his condition. Soon all the other kids found out and he became an outcast. Even his friend Katsuki Bakugo turned on him and became his worst tormenter. Through Bakugo he was given the name Deku because of his uselessness.

He and his mother, while they still care for each other, they have grown distant from each other. Mainly due to her lack of faith in his dream. Izuku soon began to wonder if his dream was even worth keeping, and if he will ever be more than just a Deku. Those were his thoughts until tonight.

It was another rough day for Izuku. He was beaten up by Kaachan again today and now he was trying to hide the burn marks from his mother. He decided to skip dinner and go straight to bed. So there sat the quirkless 10 year old wondering what he did to deserve all this suffering. When all of a sudden a noise erupted from his closet.

*BANG*

He shot straight up from his bed and onto the floor.

"Hello!" he said a little louder than he should have.

To him it sounded like someone was banging on his closet door. He went to his closet to investigate. The door kept banging, growing louder and louder each time he got closer. Then he opened it.

Out flew this grotesque apparition. It was transparent and emanated this green aura. Its face was misshapen with jagged teeth protruding from its mouth. Izuku was beyond terrified. He yelled at the top of his lungs in fear. The ghost screeched an unholy noise at him and blasted through his window into the night sky.

Soon after his mother came in with a worried look on her face.

"Izuku! Sweetie what's wrong!" she yelled.

Even though he was terrified he managed to tell his mother what happened.

"Mom, I saw a ghost."

Then next day-

Izuku is still freaked out by what he saw. But one thing remained certain: he saw a ghost, a full free roaming apparition. He told his mother but she thought he was dreaming and told him to go back to sleep.

He did not sleep.

Once the morning came he was determined to find out what happened. He investigated his closet and found nothing. He then investigated every corner of his room, but there wasn't any evidence that the ghost was even there. It made him start questioning if he was dreaming or if he was just batshit crazy.

That was until he saw his window.

On the window seal there was slimy residue left behind by what he can assume to be the ghost. He grabbed a petri dish and his microscope to study it more closely. He had never seen anything like it before. He decided it was time to do some research on the issue at hand.

He scoured the web for any information that might be helpful, but all he would find were just some bogus sites about ghosts that anybody with half a brain could tell were fake.

After a couple of hours of searching he found something that intrigued him. It was this old ad from 1984.

"This is 254 years old!", he exclaimed with surprise.

This video was pre-quirk era. That was a rarity to find today. He decided to watch this relic of a video.

When the video played 3 men appeared all of them appeared to be scientists of some kind. The one on the left was holding a camera and was wearing a green tie. The one in the middle was holding a pointer of some kind and was wearing a black tie. The last man on the right had what Izuku assumed to be a stethoscope around his neck, a calculator on the left side of his chest, and he was wearing glasses.

They then spoke.

"Are you troubled by strange noises in the middle of the night?", said the man in the middle

"Do you experience feelings of dread in your basement or attic?", said the man with glasses.

"Have you or any of your family ever seen a spook, spectre, or ghost?", said the man on the right.

"If the answer is yes then don't wait another minute. Pick up the phone and call the professionals." The man in the middle spoke once again.

"Ghostbusters. We're ready to believe you." They all said in unison.

After the commercial finished he sat back in thought.

'The Ghostbusters. This doesn't look like a regular hoax. I should look into this more.' He thought to himself.

He spent the next few hours looking into what the Ghostbusters were. What he found surprised him greatly. There were 4 members of the Ghostbusters: Ray Stantz, Egon Spngler, Peter Venkmen (they were the ones in the video), and finally Winston Zeddmore. He was the only member that wasn't in the video he watched. He chalked it up to he just hadn't joined yet. He also learned they were based in New York City. They worked in what used to be an abandoned firehouse on 14 N Moore St. But what shocked him was the story behind the group. Apparently there was a sudden surge of paranormal activity all across New York. There were even reports of a 100ft version of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

'I love those marshmallows.' He thought when he saw that.

He also learned that they had special equipment to securely capture and secure the ghost they captured. He was fascinated by this, and it baffled him that they were not talked about anymore. Eventually he came across articles of people trying to disprove the supernatural events by chalking it up to mass hysteria, and delusion among the populace. That then led to the decline in the Ghostbusters popularity and they faded in irrelevancy.

"That's utter crap." said Izuku.

"How do they deny seeing a 100ft marshmallow man!" He's letting that fact go.

"I just saw a ghost last night and that means other people have to have experienced what I did last night"

"That means there are people scared out because of the ghost and they have no one to call." he said contemplating on what to do.

After all this newfound knowledge and his ghost sighting last night, he decided if he couldn't be a hero then he would fight these ghosts, stop their terrorizing of the people, and take up the mantle of ghostbusting.

"Wait, how am I gonna do that?", he wondered.

"It's not like I can just whip up whatever it was that the Ghostbusters used." He said.

"Well, it looks like I'm stuck."

"Izuku!" his mother called him.

"Yeah mom!" he responded as she came in looking happy.

"Your father just called."

That surprised him. It's not like he hates his dad or anything he just doesn't call often.

"What does he want?" He asked.

"He said he wants us to visit him for a week so he can see us!" she said excitedly.

"Wait really!" Izuku said happily.

He always loves it when his dad visits, but this time they get to go to America. He always wanted to visit America because of its connection to All Might's identity as a hero.

"Oh wait. Where does he work again?" he asked.

"In New York." she said simply.

'Well that's a coincidence.' he thought.

'Wait this can be a good thing. I can probably find where that old firehouse is if it's still there' he thought, another wave of excitement going through him.

"When will we go?" he asked.

"He said we'll be able to come in a month." she said.

"Great!" he said.

After she left he started plotting his trip. Next month will be pretty eventful if all goes well.

'Hopefully that firehouse is still there.'

Author's Notes:

Hello everyone! This is my first ever fic. I started reading fanfiction a little over a year ago and thought it would be fun to do my own. Now here is the first chapter of 'Who ya gonna call?" This was a fun experimental idea I was playing around with in my head. I got the inspiration after I saw Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Which I got to say was fantastic! I

t was so awesome to see especially since I grew up with the franchise. I loved the first 2 movies and played the Xbox 360 game over and over again. I even sat through the torture that was the 2016 movie. I even have the ghostbusters LEGO sets of both the ECTO-1 and the firehouse. Point being I love Ghostbusters. I love My Hero Academia as well and I thought the idea of ghost and busting said ghost would be a cool concept within MHA world.

Now with that being said if you like this story so far make sure to favorite, follow, and review. I'll try to post weekly as best as I can. Also remember this is my first story so I'm still working on things like inconsistency in my writing and grammatical errors I may have missed, so sorry if stuff like that gets annoying.

So until the next chapter I bid farewell. PEACE!
