It was the sound of glass breaking that woke me from my sleep. My body still felt exhausted and heavy. I however didn't notice until I tried to stand that my head was spinning and I felt nauseous. If it hadn't been for Caroline being in the room I would have collapsed on the floor.
"Hey, hey, easy there Lena." I hear Caroline say, worry was in her voice as she begins to whisper. "The Martins were worried about something like this happening. Fucking Klaus and stupid Elijah, they couldn't freakin wait -"
"Care?" I mumble as my head lolls against her shoulder as I try to get my body to corporate with wait my mind wants. "Wha's go'n on?"
Another crash is heard from the lower floor and then yelling, followed by glass shattering again. "Fucker's are breaking shit." I feel myself mutter more then hear myself say.
Caroline lets out a small chuckle as she sits us down. "Yeah they are. Klaus said that would probably happen. It shouldn't be too long until they calm down.. maybe."
"You left us fucking Daggered Niklaus." We hear loudly across the room and I hold back a groan.
"They're so damn loud." I mutter lowly as I feel my words slur. "Tell them to shush it."
She chuckles quietly again. "I doubt that they'd listen to me. It would probably piss them off more."
"I did that to protect all of you." Klaus' voice says as it echos through the building.
"Hmm." I mumble before trying to stand up causing her to grasp my arms to steady me.
"Elena, what are you doing?" She asks with a small sigh. "You shouldn't be over exerting yourself right now."
" 'm fine."
"You're really not." Caroline says with a sigh as her hand wraps around my waist to keep me from falling. "The Salvatore's have been trying to get to you.. it's been worrying Elijah and Klaus. Not that they'd just say that but I could tell."
"Perhaps, you shouldn't be trying to offer us unwanted protection."
It was weird, kind of like being in the air or something, everything was spinning but also not spinning. Most of what Caroline said seemed like it was thrown under water and drowned. But, what I could hear the loudest and clearest was the crashing and the shouting - the anger and hurt.
"That's rich coming from you Finn, you were fucking suicidal."
"Downstairs." I whisper as I feel my head loll to the side again, everything feels so fucking heavy man.
Why couldn't I just be a damn fucking kitten? A kitten wouldn't have to deal with this heavy shit. A kitten would be laying down lazily somewhere, perhaps getting scratched on the ears or petted. That is assuming that the kitten doesn't climb up tall places and just sleep or eat.
"And our dearest sister couldn't go aday without attracting some scumbag and deciding that she loved him."
"I can't take you downstairs Elena." Caroline says with a small sigh.
Shaking my head I try to move away from her, I cringe from the sound of something else breaking downstairs. "Hurts."
"Why do I hear another voice in this house?" A male voice echos. "And a heartbeat, a very human heartbeat. You said that aside from the witches there were no others."
"Of course, Niklaus lies Kol." Rebekah's feminine voice echos through the halls. "Is it one of your whores perhaps brother? Or did Elijah decide to find a new girlfriend?"
The sound of crashing and smashed glass was heard again, loudly sounding through the building.
"Step away from the stairs little brother." Klaus' voice is heard saying. "After you've calmed down I'll let you see whom is up there. But for now this is between us."
"Niklaus is right," Elijah's voice rings through. "As of this moment there's nothing up there for you. Your anger is getting the better of you."
"Why should we listen to you?" Rebekah is heard asking. "It was because of both of you that we end up continuously in boxes."
At that point I felt my body collapse, as if all of my body just stopped working and it became extremely heavy. Caroline's arms had been outstretched as if I was a toddler who was learning to walk at the time. It was like what I imagine a tower of cards or sticks feel when they suddenly fall apart.
"Elena." I hear Caroline say loudly in my mind as the feeling of something heavy weighs on my bones. "Oh my god, Elena. Elena. Klaus, Klaus get up here, Damnit, Elena get up. Fuck."
Footsteps are heard before the door is thrown open loudly and Klaus' accented voice is heard. "What is it? Elena? What the fuck happened?"
Then there's another rush of movement and I feel a hand on my cheek before my head is moved gently into a lap. Fingers run through my hair softly as the door is banged open again. But I can't bring myself to open my eye.
"Who the -." A male voice says. "Wh-."
"Is that Katerina?" Rebekah's voice rings out in confusion.
"Elijah, send for the Martin's. Something is wrong."
"I'll call them now. Do you know what happened?" Elijah asks smoothly, although he sounds concerned.
I can almost imagine him fixing his tie as he grabs out his cellphone. It's just such a Elijah type of thing to do really.
Caroline's voice is heard in a whisper. "No, she just - just collapsed."
"Who in the bloody.." Kol begins to say, and yes it's easy enough to know whom it is. "Is that the doppelgänger?"
I can practically hear him saying darling. It's just his accent with his voice. "No, it's the bloody circus." Niklaus snaps. "Of course it's the doppelgänger."
"I take it that it's not Katerina then?" Rebekah is heard asking.
Elijah sighs. "Luka, put your father on the phone please. No, you see - Elena has collapsed."
There's a pause. "Good. We'll be waiting for you to arrive. We both know that it could have to do with a number of factors Jonas. Yes, see you soon."
"What did he say?" Caroline asks worriedly.
The second eldest brother sighs. "He's worried that it may have to do with interference from the Bennett witch or the ancestors."
A low growl from Niklaus can be heard, the sound vibrates in my ear as he continues to gently comb his fingers through my hair. "How soon will they arrive?"
"Maybe fifteen minutes." Elijah says.
Then a feminine groan is heard, Rebekah. "What is going on? Why do we care what happens to a doppelgänger of all things?"
"That's actually a rather good question sister." Kol says. "And I for one am extremely curious about the answer as well."
"I lifted my curse." Niklaus begins to say. "..by using her blood before we undaggered all of you."
"So?" I hear the eldest brother say curiously. "Shouldn't she be dead then?"
I hear Niklaus sigh lowly. "I couldn't bring myself to fully drain her, nor could the wolf. Although originally I had intended to, with the intention of bringing her back after the ritual was completed. The Martins had full permission, even if they would have done so regardless of the threat of death."
"Our big bad evil brother couldn't kill, wouldn't kill the newest doppelgänger?" Rebekah says sounding baffled.
My head twitches and the muscles in my body constrict before going back to feeling like lead.
"I thought the doppelgänger needed to die for the ritual to work?"
"Well, obviously that is not the case now is it?" Klaus snaps back.
It was odd to be there but not being able to react, the feeling was almost like an out of body experience in a way. I could picture all of them, you could almost say that I could see them, but I couldn't.
"Elena?" Lukas voice rings through the room. "Get her on the bed, Dad and Greta are on their way up with supplies. We think that the ancestors might be trying to pull her soul from her body."
