"Mother! Mother!" seven-year-old Draco shouted as he waved the report card and excitedly dashed around the Malfoy Manor.

He had gotten an O+ in his Potions homework! Never before had he gotten that, since his tutor was Uncle Sev who was the definition of strict and broody…not that he would ever tell the last one to him.

He skidded at a halt in front of the living room where his mother was idly sipping champagne and looking at him with distaste visible in every crease of her beautifully cruel face.

"How many times have I told you not to shout and scream and wave your hands like a barbaric Mudblood, Draconis? Why can't you be like the other Purebloods - so prim and proper? Just look at Daphne Greengrass, why can't you be like her? I would do anything to replace you with the lovely girl. Not that anyone would take you," she sneered. Draco was hurt when she said these words, but he was accustomed to this. She always expected him to act all Pureblood-y, even in his own home! Even so, he made an effort to control his emotions and fell into the Pureblood stance.

"Sorry, mother. But I was so excited to show you-" before he could complete his explanation, his mother cut in with a, 'spare me your flimsy excuses and just say what made you interrupt my precious time.'

He walked towards his mother, his happiness returning to him. He gave his report card to her and exclaimed happily, "I got an O+ in Potions!"

"This is what made you interrupt my precious time? Honestly? An O+ in Potions is not even a big deal, if you had gotten a Mastery in Potions, then perhaps. But, no! You just had to interrupt me just because you got an O+!" she said.

"Why can't you just be happy for me?" Draco asked, feeling very sad. He had thought that his report would please his mother because, after all, she aimed for perfection. But, it seemed that he was mistaken.

"So now you're talking back to me, are you? You are just a seven-year-old, a child. You have no grounds to talk back to me. I will do what I wish and you will have to go with it. Do I make it clear?" seeing a nod, she continued, "Now go to your room and reflect on what you've done."

Draco went to his room as fast as he could without making it seem like he was running. In his room, he cried quietly. What happened to the mother who would sing him sweet songs, read him bed-time stories and would always answer his questions? He didn't like this mean mother.

He would bring her back from wherever she was. This mother couldn't be his mother.

When Draco was in his room…

"Are you happy now, Lucius?" Narcissa said sadly. She never wanted to say those words to her child but she couldn't go against her husband and master's orders.

"Yes, my wife. You were magnificent today," he said with a smirk, "That boy needs to learn a lesson on how to become a true Malfoy. You are to act like that, do you understand?"

She would find a way out, she promised to herself internally. However, outwardly, she said, "Of course, my husband."
