Authors Note: Sorry this chapter is shorter than the other one. I wanted you guys to have an idea of what was happening to the other characters leading up to Ponyboy fainting in class. In the next chapters, things will start to pick up a lot more, mainly because this chapter is just setting everything up.
Thank you to the few people who have read my story thus far, I plan to write more of it really soon!
I do not own any rights to The Outsiders or any characters S.E Hinton created.
Dallas POV:
I'll never forget the night Johnny was jumped by some Socs. We found his jacket full of blood as honestly, he was covered in it. I always knew I had to get revenge on the guy who did that scar to his face. Even if I somehow got jailed in the process, I knew I had to set that guy straight. I glanced at the clock, 1:22pm. The kid Johnny should be around soon, I'll find something to do until then.
"Thanks man" I yelled to Buck as I got my jacket on,
"Did you pay?" he asked.
"When do I ever play by the rules?" I smirked after I said that and quickly left
Johnny POV:
I was worrying about Ponyboy ever since the 1st period when I saw him looking pale at his locker. I wanted to make sure he got to class so I asked to walk with him even though I didn't have a class that way. He looked confused but agreed. When he walked in the door I dashed across the hall into my 1st period. I was glad he made it to class without issues. I thought maybe I was just over reacting and he was fine. But what made me even more happy was that I avoided that Soc. At the end of 5th period, the history teacher told me to make sure Ponyboy got his next class to make sure he got there all right after seeing how he was acting in class. Needless to say, I followed him. I saw him run into the bathroom, I didn't think I should follow him in, so I stayed outside the room. I planned to wait for him until he came out, but he seemed to stay in there longer than I had expected. I planned to wait longer until I saw him, I saw the guy who jumped me and left me to die alone only about a month ago. The same guy who would forever leave the scar on my face. Without hesitation, I ran into the bathroom, forgetting about Ponyboys privacy that I wanted to give him and hoped that guy didn't see me. When I walked in I heard what Ponyboy was doing, I was honestly a little grossed out by it, but I was almost expecting it when I saw him run out of the classroom. He came out just as I came in and I asked him if he was fine. He agreed but I knew he wasn't. I didn't want to say anything, I walked out the door and headed for class. I was going to be on time. I wasn't sure if Ponyboy was, but I knew I was going to see him after school and if I didn't at least tell his brothers.
I was sitting in 7th period science and the only thing on my mind was Ponyboy. I was worried about what I had just witnessed in the washroom. His english class was actually next to mine, so I thought I would see him on the way to our last period. I was deep into my thoughts when I suddenly heard a bang and a yell. I scanned the room quickly, nothing had fallen or no one said a word in my class. My teacher stood up and she hurried out the door, I looked at the clock, it was 1:27, 7th period had just started, why would she be leaving?
Then I could only think of one word,
Ponyboy
Ponyboy POV:
Everything was fuzzy, I just knew it was 1:27 last time I checked the clock before I was suddenly met by my veryhard desk.
Darry POV:
I couldn't shake the idea that something was seriously wrong with Ponyboy. From the minute he left, I knew something was wrong. I only wished I could have stopped him from leaving the house. I wish I could have stopped him at the very least to ask him if he thought he should stay home from school. I had to push all those thoughts and feelings out of my mind so I could concentrate on the road on my way to work.
"Curtis."
The voice belonged to my boss, I was worried about why he was talking to me during his lunch.
"Yes, Sir?" I replied, pleading I was not getting fired
"There's a phone call for you, it must be important if they are calling at this unusual time."
I ran inside to the phone without any hesitation, it was 1:37. Not a normal time for someone to call, especially on a Wednesday.
"Is this Darrel Curtis?" The voice asked.
I recognized that voice and my stomach sank. The last time I heard her voice, it didn't end well, I prepared for the worst.
Sodapop POV:
The gang already came by for lunch about an hour ago and normally the DX was slow during the afternoon, especially on a school day. I would have to wait until at least 3:30 until Steve showed up. I mainly worked in the garage up until lunch and I switched with another guy, Mark, and worked in the store and he did the garage. Suddenly, I remembered how miserable Ponyboy looked at breakfast. I realized that during lunch, he didn't look the best either. I wondered if he was doing okay at school right now. Then the phone rang so I picked it up. Who would be calling a gas station at 1:41 in the afternoon? I thought.
"Sodapop-"
The voice belonged to Darry.
I was worried about why Darry was calling me during work, he never did, not once.
I then asked him what I feared the whole day,
"What is wrong- is he okay?"
