As the pups geared up in the Lookout for what could be their last mission, Chase on the other hand was having thoughts, not good ones.
The pup kept losing his train of thought and was constantly hearing the voices in his head, like one last struggle for complete control.
As Chase looked around at the pups, his ears were ringing ominously.
Chase had a blank expression on his face as he looked at the pups. The pup was brought out of that state of mind as he felt a paw touch him.
"Hey, are we still going with this plan?" Catherine asked.
"What? Oh yeah, yeah, we're still going with it." Chase shook his head to get the thoughts out of his head.
"You ok?" Catherine asked.
"Yeah, just nervous that's all." Chase answered.
"We'll get through this, whatever it takes, right?" Catherine assured.
"Yeah, whatever it takes."
The pups finished gearing up and got inside the Paw Patroller, heading towards Farmer Al's.
All the pups had stern looks throughout the whole ride, they were scared but they didn't show it.
As they reached Farmer Al's, Ryder, Katie and Mayor Goodway got out the Paw Patroller, as the two went inside, Ryder stayed back and looked at the pups.
"Please be careful, we're all counting on you." Ryder said as he hugged the pups.
"Don't worry Ryder, you can count on us, on all of us." Chase said as he looked at Catherine.
The pups finished hugging and got back into the Paw Patroller, looking at their leader as they slowly drove away. The pups waved at Ryder one by one as they got more and more farther.
It took some time but the pups reached the mountians.
"You remember where it was right Chase?" Zuma asked.
"Yeah, I do. Robo-Dog, once you drop us off, leave this place and head back to the road, we don't want anyone trying to take the Paw Patroller from us." Chase said.
Robo-Dog barked in response and the pups headed to the hideout.
They stopped away from it but they can see it from a distance, the pups got out and started making their way towards the hideout as the Paw Patroller turned around.
"Stick close and to the plan everybody." Chase said as they all went towards the hideout.
The pups were as sneaky as possible, they noticed that the entrance was empty, no one was guarding it so they went around.
"There was a way I came in through here but I don't think it can support our weight." Chase said to the others.
"We take the front entrance then?" Zuma asked.
"If that's the only choice we have then I guess so." Chase replied.
"What if we split up? Three take the front entrance and the other three go through here?" Catherine suggested.
The pups didn't like the idea of having to split up but that meant they could find Marshall and the others and find Blizzard.
"It's up to you Chase." Everest said.
"I'm thinking we just go through the front entrance, all of us." Chase looked at his teammates to make sure they agreed.
"Alright lead the way." Everest said.
The pups headed through the front entrance and managed to sneak around for some time.
"Alright, first things first, we look for Skye and Marshall and then we go after Maverick." Chase reiterated to the team.
The pups moved through room to room, passing any pup that was there. They eventually made it to the halls and saw at least three different groups there.
Chase peeked out and saw a door across the hall, he motioned for the pups to follow behind him, as they were going to move, the intercom in the hall went on and they heard Maverick's voice.
"Everyone, we're heading to Barkingburg soon, things are getting too crazy and we need to move, make sure the ferals don't get loose."
Chase looked back at the pups and nodded to follow him, they moved from the corner and to a room while the groups were distracted.
Chase looked around the room and realized there was a pup in there, the pup froze as Chase approached him and pinned him against a wall.
"Where's Marshall and Skye...I don't have time for this." Chase stabbed the pup, causing him to yell in pain, the impatient pup closed his muzzle to prevent anyone from hearing them. "Where?" Chase began to dig deeper in the pups wound.
The pup still didn't respond which caused Chase to keep digging deeper.
"Where?!"
The pup responded in a raspy voice. "The far end...of the hallway. To...the right." Chase removed his claws from the pups wound and killed him.
Chase looked at the pups, who gave him a concerned stare.
"Come on, we gotta find them." Chase said as he brushed off the stares he received.
The pups stopped at the door and Tracker leaned against it, hearing the group move to a different area.
"Amigos, it's clear! Vamanos!" Tracker motioned for the pups to go to the hallway and find Marshall & Skye.
The pups reached the room where they were located, as they entered they only saw Marshall, who was injured badly.
"Marshall!" The pups rushed to the injured Dalmatian. "What happened? Where's Skye?" Chase asked as he fidgeted with the chains on the pups neck.
"He...he took her...Rocky took her, he said he was going to feed her to the feral pups." Marshall continued to explain. "I'm sorry pups, I tried convincing him to take me instead but he's too determined because of Maverick. He's gone off the deep end."Marshall looked at Chase. "You gotta promise me Chase, put both of them in the ground."
Chase looked at his injured Dalmatian friend and took a deep breath.
"Ok...pups get out of here, get Marshall out of here and go, I'll take care of Rocky and Maverick." Chase ordered.
"No, no way!" Zuma said as he was against the order. "You can't take them both on, you'll die!"
"I'm going with you!" Catherine said.
"Me too!" Everest sided.
"No, I'm only taking Catherine with me, you pups still need to get out of here. Once we find Skye, Catherine will bring her back to you pups and then you leave, no matter what." Chase explained his plan.
The pups realized that they couldn't argue with Chase, it was a lost cause so they agreed to the pup's plan.
"It's okay, I'll make sure this is all over, take care pups." Chase nodded to his old teammates for possibly the last time. "Come on Cathy."
As the pups saw the two leave the room, they sat in silence, thinking on what do next.
"Come on pups, Chase is going to need some help, let's take this place down and make sure all of this stays gone." Zuma ordered.
"But what about Skye, Catherine, and Chase?" Rubble asked.
"We'll let them know. We'll start taking this place down when they get Skye. That should give us enough time to get out." Zuma answered.
As the duo made it through the hallway, an alarm echoed through. Making the pups pick up the pace.
"You really are one ignorant pup, you know that, right?" Maverick asked through the intercom. "Skye's just up ahead, go ahead and try to get her back. I dare you."
"You think he's trying to trick us?" Catherine asked.
"Definitely." Chase said as the two walked towards the door.
As the pups went through the door, they saw feral pups surrounding them, thankfully they weren't in any way able to attack them, they were trying really hard though.
They saw Skye at the other side and ran to the wolfified Cockapoo.
"Skye! Skye, are you okay?" Chase asked as he helped the pup up.
Catherine hastily looked around, making sure the pups weren't being snuck up on.
"Chase...it's a...trap." Skye said weakly.
As she said that, the feral pups were free, thanks to Rocky. Chase quickly placed Skye on Catherine's back.
"Go! Get her out of here and go!" Chase ordered. "I'll take care of Maverick, just go!"
Catherine didn't hesitate and ran to the exit they came in from.
She looked back and saw Chase opening the door and as she was about to open the door also, a feral pup grabbed her. She quickly sliced at the pup and helped Skye go through the door, she closed it and fended off the feral pups the best she could.
As Chase was about to go through the door, he wanted to help Catherine but instead was grabbed by Rocky and thrown into the room.
"I knew you wouldn't let Skye go, that's why I used her to lure you here. You can't save her, you can't save anyone." Rocky stated as the pup got up. "It doesn't matter if you take her back to the Lookout, how long will it take before her and Marshall take things into their own paws and kills anyone they see?"
"It's not for you to decide!" Chase said as he stood up. "I can help them."
"Like you helped Aurora? Or me? You left me Chase! He tortured me every day, waiting for me to crack, and you didn't do anything!" Rocky yelled out.
"You think I wanted to leave you? I was injured and Ryder got injured, we had a job to do, that was to protect whoever was left in Adventure Bay! That's not my fault! I told you it was trap but you didn't listen! You never listened! Marshall got captured because of your stubbornness and look at him now!" Chase explained.
"You let your stubbornness get the better of you and now look what happened, you hurt Skye because of some blood feud that doesn't even matter anymore! Marshall was right, you've gone too far." Chase said as he lowered his guard.
Rocky listened to the pups words and felt a moment of regret for what he did, it took some time but Rocky finally made his decision.
Chase looked at the pup as he got into an attacking position.
Rocky rushed the pup but fell to the ground after Chase dodged the pup's attack. He scratched the pup on his muzzle and Rocky bit his leg causing him to stumble over. Rocky pinned the pup and placed his claws on Chase's neck.
"I'm gonna enjoy this!" Rocky said with an evil smile.
Chase managed to get the pup off him and pin him down.
Rocky tried fighting back but Chase was too strong for him.
"You're going to kill me like you killed Aurora?" Rocky asked while still trying to struggle.
"I'm done trying to convince you!" Chase said.
"You...you took her from me." Rocky said as he stopped struggling.
"I tried helping you but I guess pups like you can't be helped." Chase put his claws on Rocky's neck and sliced clean through.
Chase got off the mix's corpse and looked ahead at the door near him.
As he looked at the door, his pup tag rang.
"Chase, it's Zuma, we're going to help you out by destroying this place in any way we can, where are you pups?" Zuma asked through the pup tag.
"Zuma, don't even think about it! Skye and I got separated, I need you and the pups to find her and get out, forget about this place. I'll make sure it gets destroyed!" Chase acknowledged.
"Okay...what happened to Catherine?" Zuma asked.
"She's gone...she saved Skye, I wanted to go back but Rocky stopped me from doing so." Chase explained.
"What about Rocky? Did you...did you kill him?" Zuma asked in a sad tone.
Chase was silent for some time but gave the Labrador a response.
"He left me no choice, I tried convincing him but nothing worked, I'm sorry Zuma. I know how much he meant to you." Chase said in an apologetic tone.
Zuma stood silent, not wanting to give the Shepherd a response.
"I'll call you back when we find Skye, good luck." Zuma said before hanging up.
As the Labrador hung up on the Shepherd, the intercom went on once again.
"Bravo Chase, killed another close friend, I really did a number on him." Chase heard Maverick sigh through the intercom. "Come on in, I just want to talk, no more tricks. I promise."
Chase thought about it and decided to go through the door. Trusting the word of his brother one last time.
Skye slowly got up and stumbled forward, falling to the ground again. The pup could barely move due to the pain Rocky caused.
As she slowly made her way through the halls, she eventually lost consciousness and didn't have a clue on where she was.
Some time passed and Skye woke up, realizing she was on the back of some pup.
"Don't worry Skye, we got you, we're taking you home." Everest assured the pup.
"Where's...where's Chase?" Skye asked in a weak voice.
The husky didn't say anything, she didn't want to tell Skye that Chase wanted them to leave him.
"Ev...where is he?" Skye asked again.
"I'll tell you when we're safe." Everest said in a stern voice, not letting her emotions get the better of her.
The pups finally made it out of the hideout and made it back to the Paw Patroller.
"Chase, we got Skye and made it to the Paw Patroller, what's the situation with you?" Zuma asked.
Zuma heard the pup struggling and didn't get an answer right away.
"Situation is fine, just go! That's an order!" Chase yelled through the pup tag.
The Labrador did as his friend ordered and motioned for everyone to get in the Paw Patroller.
Zuma wanted to say something but ended up staying quiet, he got inside the Paw Patroller and they turned back to Farmer Al's.
"You really gotta stop being so gullible!" Maverick advised as he tried scratching Chase.
Chase stood quiet as he dodged the pups attacks.
He ended up countering one of his attacks with a quick scratch to his muzzle.
Chase showed aggression and kept attacking the pup, adding more scratches to his body and finally ending it by pinning him against a wall.
There was a pause between the two.
"Well? Do it, kill me and get this over with. Just know that I'm still offering you a chance here." Maverick said, wincing at the pain.
Chase kept the pup pinned as he started hearing the voices in his head, being louder than ever.
"End him! Right now! Do it and end this madness!"
"No, let him live! PLAY YOUR CARDS RIGHT SHEPHERD!"
Chase could finally tell who the voices in his head were, it was Ryder and Maverick. Trying to make him choose the right choice.
Chase put his paws on his head as the voices progressively kept urging him to make a choice.
"You're going to let him live after what he's done to you and the others?!"
"Just give in, there's no point in fighting anymore..."
"Think about your friends, think about them!"
"Your friends are scared of you, scared of who you truly are, the ferals see you as one of their own, not as a monster."
Maverick, leaning against a wall, watched as his brother was losing it. After some time, Chase finally stopped thrashing about and made his decision.
Chase approached Maverick and held out his paw.
"Come on, let's take over this pathetic town." Chase said as Maverick took his paw.
"I knew you couldn't resist. What about Ryder and the rest?" Maverick asked.
"Don't worry, I'll take care of them. Like you said, they won't suspect one of their own turning against them." Chase said as he left the room. "Oh one more thing, burn this place down, they might suspect something if it's not destroyed." Chase suggested before finally leaving the room.
Chase turned his pup tag on and proceeded to call the pups.
"Zuma, it's done, Maverick's dead." Chase stated in a fake injured voice.
"Chase! It's so good to hear you! We're not that far from you, we'll turn back!" Zuma said through the pup tag.
"Ok, I managed to destroy the place too, we did it, it's finally over." Chase smiled.
"I can't believe it! Just wait there Chase, we'll be there soon." Zuma hung up on the pup.
After some time, Zuma and the rest of the pups finally showed up and picked the Shepherd up, heading back to Farmer Al's.
As the Paw Patroller made it back to Farmer Al's, the pups were happy that the pup who put them through all of this was finally gone.
"We still have a lot of work to do pups, don't celebrate just yet." Chase said in a stern tone. "The town is still full of feral pups that we have to handle. Let's get Ryder and head back to the Lookout." Chase suggested.
"What about Katie and Mayor Goodway?" Skye asked.
"They'll be safer in Farmer Al's, let's go home." Chase answered.
Everyone agreed to the Shepherd's suggestion and headed back to the Lookout.
As they entered the Lookout, the pups lied down, exhausted because of all the things they did to get this far.
"Pups, we struggled a lot to get this far, I hope you're willing to go a little bit further." Ryder said. "I'll be back, I'm going to head up and check some things out, when I'm back, we'll explain the plan." Ryder advised as he stumbled to the elevator.
"Let me help you, Ryder." Tracker said as he ran towards the boy.
The two headed up the Lookout and now Chase had to do the unthinkable.
"So Chase, did Maverick ever tell you the cure for this whole thing?" Zuma asked as he approached the pup.
Chase didn't answer as he turned around to face the Labrador. Seconds after that he stabbed the pup and looked him in the eyes as he slowly bled out.
"You all are just loose ends that need to be tied up." Chase stated as he dropped Zuma's body on the floor.
The pups were in shock after what happened, Everest immediately sprung into action as she tried pouncing the Shepherd, she missed and had her throat slit quickly by Chase.
Chase turned and eyed the last pups that were standing, they were too scared to do anything except for Marshall, who although injured got in front of Rubble and Skye to protect them.
"What did he do to you?" Marshall asked.
"He didn't do anything." Chase rushed the pup and stabbed him in his wound that he got from Maverick a long time ago, opening it up again. "I made my decision."
"Chase...please stop!" Skye asked with tears streaming down her muzzle.
The pup looked at Rubble and bit into his neck, killing the pup almost instantly.
Skye was the last one standing in the room, she didn't have it in her to fight back or do anything.
Chase approached the pup and placed his paw on her muzzle, wiping the tears from her eyes.
"Everything is going to fine Skye, I couldn't have anyone alive that could be a problem...you and the pups are one of them." Chase quickly pinned Skye down and placed his paws on her neck, choking her. She couldn't do anything against the pups strength and placed her paw on his face, caressing the pups eyes.
It was all over when Chase decided to end it quickly by breaking the pups neck.
As Chase got off Skye's lifeless body, the elevator to the Lookout opened up, catching the pups attention.
Chase sat down near Skye, blood littering his fur as he heard Ryder and Tracker come towards him. The pup turned around with a smile on his face.
Chase bit Ryder's bad leg and then scratched Tracker, temporarily blinding him in his left eye. Ryder fell to the ground as he saw Chase pounce on the chihuahua and bite into his neck.
The boy tried crawling back into the elevator but couldn't as Chase slowly made his way towards him, the pup got on top of the boy and bit into his neck with all of his might. Letting him bleed out.
Chase's job was done.
As he got off of Ryder's body, he noticed something oddly familiar about what was surrounding him. The pup's lifeless bodies with scratches and bite marks all over them as he was the only one alive.
It was that dream he had a long time ago, something he could've prevented.
"I guess I played my cards right." Chase said as he left the Lookout, leaving the corpses of his former friends to wither away.
Chase glanced at the feral infested town and smiled.
"I made the right choice..."
And it's finally done, this ending or the other one can be canon, it's entirely up to the reader to choose their ending. Anyway I hope you all enjoyed this, thanks for giving it a read.
I will post the other books and fix them up for the readers who want to know the full story.
