So this one is kinda rushed but I still think it turned out okay. I might change the title later but maybe not. Anyways, I'll let you enjoy the fic :)

"My old friend," Morgana pauses, "Last time we met you tried to kill me."

"I am here for a purpose Morgana. I did not break stride to find you," Mordred continues, "I bring you the news you have longed for."

"Arthur's death?"

"The key to it. I was wrong to ever question your wisdom my lady and I wish to make amends."

"Tell me."

"There is someone you have been searching for, someone who has always alluded you."

"Emrys."

"I know where he is," Mordred spits out.

"Where."

"Camelot."

There was a pause, "And I have his true name."

"It is Merlin."

Mordred watches Morgana take the magic of an innocent man. It is cruel. He realizes that he made a mistake coming to Morgana. She would not rule Camelot peacefully. It would be chaos. She might even start a war against those without magic. Killing them all. A second purge.

This isn't what I want.

Mordred decides to sneak away. Back to Camelot. This isn't right. Even if he dies, it would be better than this. So he does. He stealthily escapes Morgana's fortress and makes his way back to Camelot.

Almost as soon as he steps foot in Camelot, guards arrive to haul him down to the dungeons. Arthur pays him a visit almost as quickly.

"Mordred," he greets.

"Sire."

"Why did you return?"

"I made a mistake. I was blind to Kara's misdeeds and I am willing to pay whatever it takes to make amends."

"Even if it costs you your life?"

"If that is what it takes. I have one request, however, if you will let me?"

"I will hear it."

"I wish to apologize to Merlin. I have done him wrong and wish to give him a warning before I die."

"You might not yet," Arthur pauses, "I'll let him know you wish to speak to him. That's all I will do."

"Thank you, sire."

Arthur nods before turning and leaving the cells, not once looking back at one of his best knights, who he isn't yet sure he could kill.

"Arthur?" Merlin enters the now quiet room.

Not seeing his king, he turns to leave, almost bumping into the man in question.

"Arthur! What's going on?"

"Mordred has come back. He said he made a mistake siding with Kara and then leaving."

"Are you going to kill him?" Merlin asks, worried the prophecy may yet be fulfilled.

"I'm not sure I can. He was one of my best knights, after all."

There are a few beats of silence before Arthur continues, "Either way, he said he needed to speak to you. To apologize and give you a warning of some kind."

Merlin froze, fairly certain he knows where Mordred went and what he did that needs forgiving.

"Did he say what about?"

Arthur shook his head, shoving aside his curiosity, "I told him I would tell you, but that was all. You can decide if you wish to see him or not."

Merlin nods his head in understanding.

"I will, with your permission?" Merlin asks, eager to get this over with.

"Yes, of course." Arthur replies and Merlin walks quickly down to Mordred's cell.

When Merlin got down there, Mordred was sitting on the floor with his back against the wall and his head in his knees.

Without looking up he greets Merlin, "Emrys."

"Mordred. Why did you come back?"

"I made a mistake. I wasn't thinking clearly and I'm sorry."

"So you told her then?" Merlin asks.

Mordred nods shamefully before standing up.

"Do you know what she's planning?"

"She made me watch as she took the magic from an innocent man."

This makes Merlin freeze.

"What could do such a thing?"

"A creature of dark magic. I can only guess who she means to use it on next, now that she knows you're Emrys."

The two men stop talking while Merlin takes in this information.

"Did she tell you of your role in the prophecy?"

At this Mordred only looks confused.

"She did not."

Merlin takes a deep breath before talking again, "I was once warned, long ago, that you and Morgana were to be untied in evil. That is why I didn't help Morgana with her magic and why I almost didn't help you escape as a child."

"But you did."

"Yes, I did. But I also tried to kill you, more than once, because there is another part of the prophecy. You haven't completed it, and I'm not sure you will, but you might have come close a few days ago."

While Mordred is dying to hear this prophecy, he doesn't say anything and instead waits for Merlin to continue.

"You are meant to kill the Once and Future King, and I recently learned that it is to be done at Camlan."

Mordred's eyes widen and he instinctively takes a step back.

"That's why you've been so cold towards me? This whole time... I was meant to kill him."

Merlin simply nods.

"Then you must kill me first! Make sure Arthur kills me, before I can kill him!"

"No, Mordred. Part of the reason you went to Morgana in the first place was because I kept pushing you away. I'm not making the same mistake again."

"But-"

"I believe that destiny is off track now. If you had stayed with Morgana... things might be different. But right now you would rather die than kill him. Could you have said the same thing during your time with Morgana?"

"No."

"Then I see no reason you should die. You would make a powerful ally, and a great knight. It might take some time for everyone to trust you again, but I don't believe Arthur ever intended to execute you. He cares for you."

"Thank you Merlin."

"Of course."

"Promise me you'll be cautious? I don't know when Morgana plans to attack, but she won't wait long."

"I will, and even if she succeeds in taking my magic, I will think of something. I am Emrys after all. And I still have you to defend Arthur against magic when I cannot."

"I appreciate the confidence, but I am no where as capable as you."

"But you are still capable. I'll get you out of here and you can help me until Albion is more than just a dream. Arthur is on track with little pushing from me. He is a great king and will rule Albion justly."

"I will never doubt him again." Mordred says finally, before the two say their goodbye's and Merlin walks out, on his way to talk to Arthur about releasing a certain knight.
