Genin Days
On the journey back from a mission, Team 7 finds itself making camp by a small lake in the middle of Fire country. Kakashi had said it was a day's journey back from their current location. They settled for sleep with Kakashi taking the first watch, followed by Naruto.
On the verge of middle of the night and early morning, Naruto woke Sakura for her shift. She groggily took her post. Their sleeping mats were a short walk from the lake. She decided to walk over and dip her feet in.
Once she noted the rest of her team was asleep and nothing suspicious was happening. She decided to walk further into the lake just up to her calves. She heard a rustling behind her. Out of caution and surprise she splashed whoever it was.
"What the hell? Sakura?"
"Sasuke? Oh my god sorry! What are you doing? It's not time for your shift."
"Heard something…" he looked her up and down, still slightly submerged. "Turns out it's you playing in the lake."
The darkness of the night covered the red of her face from her embarrassment. He walked to the water's edge. She got a playful glint in her eyes. On impulse she kicked some water at him. Hitting him on his shorts.
He gave her an incredulous look. He contemplated something in his head. Then with quick reflexes walked into the water and splashed her back.
She gave him a shocked look.
They broke out into a splash war in the shallow part of the lake. Once they deduced a truce, they walked out soaked.
Sakura got out of the lake and sat on the edge laying down, and catching her breath. Sasuke followed suit, and sat next to her. He looked at the time on a now wet watch.
"My shift."
She grinned. "I can take it. I did end up waking you up with my splashing"-
He paused and looked at her.
He looked back down to his feet.
"You didn't wake me. I had a nightmare." He said almost ashamed.
"Oh." Was all she could reply. She sat back up, looked down as well, then straight ahead to the glistening lake.
"I wanted to see the sunrise anyway. You're stuck with me until the rest of them wake up."
Sasuke's ears burned. "Fine. Just no more splashing. These were my last clean clothes until we got back to the village."
Sakura laughed and nodded, "Mine too."
