A/N Oh boy, it's been a while sorry. But to make up for it this chapter has 2,858 words, my longest chapter ever. This is the second last chapter of this fic and the final chapter will hopefully be out in January. Any feedback is welcome and thanks for reading. Enjoy!

Zmije control room

The Doctor froze as the viscount ordered his execution; he did not remember the Zmije to be this trigger happy. He also didn't remember Kryptonians being this powerful.

Martha stared in awe as Supergirl jumped in front of the Doctor taking the laser blast hits without a scratch. Winn was surprised as well, he didn't think that Kara would risk herself for the Doctor.

Alex pointed their gun at the Zmije and J'onn got into a fighting stance.

"Doctor, what did you do?" J'onn called. But an automated response replied.

"Nuclear thermoreceptors overreacting."

The Doctor sucked his teeth, "Well that's not good. Once the core goes critical there's nothing you can do about it."

"What have you done?!" Petra screamed as her guards pointed their guns at their group.

"Well, for starters. Run," The Doctor turned to Martha and shouted, "Run!"

Martha didn't need to be told twice, she grabbed onto Alex's arm, "TARDIS!" she shouted.

Supergirl laser-eyed the guns that the guards were pointing at her only to be hit again from the side. She flew backwards to cover Winn and Alex's retreat as J'onn went to engage some of the other guards that popped up out of nowhere.

The Doctor had jumped behind another control panel and ran out of the room with his sonic in his hand, "Come on!" He shouted to Kara and J'onn.

Kara and J'onn hurriedly flew over to the Doctor, who quickly shut the door behind them.

"Doctor, what did you do?" J'onn asked with a pointed glare.

"I think I can answer that," Winn said, "You overheated the core and you must have turned off their way of shutting it off. Which means that their ship is about to blow up."

"So you're going to kill them!" Supergirl shouted as she shoved the Doctor up against the wall, "I just saved you back there for you to kill them all!"

"They have 14 and a half minutes until the core explodes. They have 2 and a half minutes to decide to flee and make it to the planet I mentioned earlier, which is more than enough time for the Viscount to decide what to do and start the jump."

Supergirl let the Doctor go, how did he know all of this? He is nothing like the other Time Lords she knew of. They wouldn't have hesitated to kill all of the Zmije. Heck another Time Lord wouldn't even be here right now. Who is this Doctor?

"And what if the ship blows up here in the atmosphere?" J'onn asked.

"It wouldn't be big enough to have an impact on Earth, no matter what happens Earth is safe. The most you'll get is the ash from the ship coming through the atmosphere, which from my experience, you people often mistake for snow."

Supergirl, J'onn, and Alex were staring down the Doctor. How had he come up with a plan like that so quickly? Alex thought. Not even Winn could pull something like that off.

The ship shook suddenly, a lot more violently than the first time.

"Look can we continue this later?" Martha shouted, "We have to get out of here!"

"I'm with Martha on this one," Winn said.

"Right, Doctor can you take us to your ship?" J'onn asked.

"Of course! I'm not going to leave you here. Now come on!" The Doctor said as he sped down the hallway. Everyone raced behind him doing their best to keep their balance on the shaking ship.

They rounded a corner to see a blue police box in the middle of the hallway.

"That's your ship isn't it?" Winn asked

"Yup," The Doctor said putting his key in the lock.

"H-how are we all going to fit? Not that I'm doubting alien tech it's just-"

"Winn, you'll fit," Kara said. The Doctor pushed open the door that clearly read pull to open and walked inside followed by Martha and Kara pulling Winn by his wrist.

"I don't think we can all-" Winn stared in shock, "It's bigger on the inside! But how..." Winn just stood there with his mouth agape.

Alex walked in, "What the... This should be impossible..." Alex however wasn't as starstruck as Winn and followed Kara up to the console.

J'onn came in last closing the door, "Good to go Doctor."

"Right then. Allons-y!" He shouted as he pulled down a big lever. The TARDIS jolted and began to make a wheezing sound as the center pillar began to bob up and down. The TARDIS jolted again and some sparks flew from above the console.

"Doctor, what's wrong?" Martha asked as the Doctor pulled a monitor in front of him.

"The Zmije ship has gone into hyperdrive and we're in the middle of dematerialization."

Kara had no idea how he could read that screen of symbols so quickly, by the time her eyes registered a change in the screen is was already displaying a new reading.

"Hang on!" The Doctor shouted as he pushed some buttons and pulled some levers. The TARDIS jolted for a third time knocking everyone, except for the Doctor, off of their feet. Even more sparks flew all around the TARDIS, it's a miracle that the Doctor could still see to pilot the TARDIS. The TARDIS made a wheezing noise again then a boom sounded throughout the TARDIS.

"Bada boom ba. We made it!" The Doctor said cheerfully.

"We made it where?" Alex asked.

"In the DEO, hopefully," The Doctor said scratching the back of his head.

DEO

A wheezing noise that came out of nowhere had everyone on high alert and when a big blue wooden box appeared out of nowhere it did not help the tension in the room. Pretty soon at least two dozen soldiers surrounded the box with guns at the ready.

How did it get through our defences? One soldier thought.

What the hell is in there? Another one thought.

No one expected the door to creak open and the director to walk out.

"Stand down, that's an order," They were all hesitant to put down their guns but once they saw Supergirl emerge from behind him the soldiers lowered their guns.

"You can all return to your posts," J'onn commanded.

"Yes Sir!" they are responded rushing back to where they had come from.

The Doctor and Winn emerged next, "How does the TARDIS work? How did we get from one place to another without any thrust? How is it bigger on the inside?"

"Well TARDIS stands for time and relative dimension in space."

"So it's another dimension crammed into a tiny box?"

"Yup."

"And it can travel in time?"

"Yup."

"But why a police box? Why not something more practical?"

"Well, when I first landed on Earth in 1963 the chameleon circuit broke down and got stuck as a police box."

"Wait so the outside could change to blend into its surroundings like a chameleon? Why don't you fix it? It would be much easier to blend in that way?"

"I don't know, I kind of fancy her as a police box. I think she likes it too."

Almost as in response, the TARDIS light flickered.

Neither of them noticed Martha and Alex getting out of the TARDIS.

"Boys and their toys," Alex mumbled.

"Tell me about it. He's like this all the time."

"So is Winn."

The two of them chuckled, how two grown men could be so childish when it came to alien tech they had no idea.

"Doctor," J'onn called, "Could we all talk in private?" He said gesturing to a side room.

The Doctor's childish demeanour quickly vanished and they all walked over to the side room in silence.

Side Room

They all filed into a room off of the main DEO space, Martha stood with the Doctor on one side of the room with everyone else on the other. There were going to be a lot of questions.

"Doctor, why did you come here in the first place?" J'onn asked.

"Well, the TARDIS just takes me where I need to be," The Doctor said, "She landed us here."

"I find that hard to believe," J'onn said crossing his arms.

Supergirl clenched her fists, that's not a realistic answer.

"No, really," Martha cut in, "We were trying to go see a planet made of diamonds but where do we end up. London, again."

"Well... Yeah, sorry," The Doctor said scratching the back of his head.

Martha sighed inwardly, they had just dodged a bullet, they weren't lying but no one in the room fully trusted them.

"How did you know what tech to tamper with in the Zmije ship? You could have doomed us all if you didn't." Winn asked.

"I have been travelling the universe for the better part of 900 years. I've helped repair, build, and take apart loads of ships. And Zmije tech isn't anything out of the ordinary."

Supergirl rolled her eyes, That's just an excuse, you were just guessing weren't you.

"Wait your 900 years old?" Winn asked

"I'm 903. Although, I could be off by a bit. I am a time traveller, it's hard to keep track." The Doctor rubbed his chin seemingly lost in thought.

How do you lose track of your age? Supergirl thought Time Lords are supposed to be perfect, stuck-up brats. Why is he so different? He has to be faking it on some stupid mission to gather information about Earth.

"What about the Time War?" Supergirl asked. This will get me some answers.

"What of the Time War? If you're wondering if it will affect Earth then it will not."

There was something off-putting by the Doctor's answer and Supergirl knew it. His answer wasn't as light-hearted as his other replies had been. Just as Supergirl was about to press the subject J'onn cut in.

"Are there any other major wars or other events that could impact Earth?"

"Not this century, no. But there are some minor conflicts so you will probably be getting a few alien refugees, not a lot though. Earth isn't a prime location just yet."

"What is it that you do exactly?" Alex asked.

"I travel through space and time helping people where I can."

That's not what Time Lords do! He would never be permitted to travel so freely, let alone help people.

"Why?"

"Because it's fun I suppose. And you meet amazing people along the way."

"If you travel through time and space saving people, why haven't you saved Krypton?" Supergirl asked.

"I'm sorry I can't."

"Why can't you! You just made an invading fleet turn around with a push of a button!"

"Krypton's destruction is a fixed point in time! I can't-"

"Don't give me that crap!"

"Kara!" J'onn shouted but she paid him no mind.

"That's the only excuse your species ever gave! I'm not going to believe it coming from you!"

"I'm sorry, I just can't." The Doctor said as calmly as he could but it did not calm Kara down in the slightest.

"Do you know how many innocent people were on Krypton! How many children were on Krypton!"

"KARA!" J'onn shouted again and Alex put a hand on Kara's shoulder. All they felt was Kara's shoulder shutter. Was she crying?

"Tell me again why you can't save Krypton!"

The Doctor snapped, his patience had finally run out, "Because if I go back and save your planet then there is nothing stopping me from going back and saving mine!"

The room froze at the Doctor's sudden outburst with one question on everyone's mind; Why wouldn't you save your own planet?

"To end the Time War all of the Daleks and the Time Lords were destroyed," The Doctor said, his voice ice cold, "Gallifrey and Skaro are gone. I can't bring back one without bringing back the other. Their destruction is a fixed point in time and if I tamper with it there is no telling what will happen to the rest of the universe."

Kara was stunned, she couldn't move. Had the Time Lords and the Daleks really died? I-impossible, there had to be a victor, didn't there?

"I'm sorry I couldn't save Krypton, it was a beautiful planet with some truly brilliant people," The Doctor turned to Martha, "Let's go," Then he stuffed his hands in his pockets and walked out of the room.

No one had the guts to stop him, sure they had more questions but he wasn't going to answer anymore. There was a look in his eyes, one that J'onn understood all too well. Being so old had taken its toll on the Doctor, he looked tired and his eyes looked older than anyone would believe. Winn and Alex noticed his eyes as well but not to the extent that J'onn did.

Martha followed the Doctor out of the room only making eye contact with Alex to try and apologize for leaving so abruptly.

TARDIS

The Doctor threw his coat on the pillar with less enthusiasm than normal. He heard Martha come in and close the TARDIS door, without even looking at her he pulled the big lever down and the TARDIS began to dematerialize. The wheezing noise brought no comfort to the Doctor. There were no flashing lights or distress signals to distract him from what had transpired. Had he really just said all of that out loud? And to strangers no less.

"Doctor. You alright?" Martha asked. She rarely saw the Doctor like this and it was usually after someone who had helped them had died.

"Yeah," The Doctor lied, avoiding eye contact with Martha, "I've just got to run some checks on the TARDIS before we land again."

"Alright, let me know if you need anything," Martha said before disappearing into the depths of the TARDIS. She didn't know how to help the Doctor, every attempt she had made in the past he had just shut her right down. He wouldn't be alright until they had another death-defying adventure. She sighed and opened up her date journal where she kept all of the dates they had visited on Earth to run through the news around those times to see if she could spot their past selves.

The Doctor just stood over the console overwhelmed by all of his memories of Gallifrey rushing to the forefront of his mind. He didn't need this now. This was the reason he didn't like to stick around after the day was saved, there would always be questions and the questions almost always hurt. He just had to keep on moving forward without looking back.

Side Room

"J'onn, is the Doctor a threat?"

"I do not believe he is a threat, but I'd still be wary of him."

Supergirl was in a state of shock over what the Doctor had just told them barely paying attention to what J'onn and Alex were discussing.

"Kara, are you okay?" Winn asked.

"No, I'm not okay. He makes no sense! Time Lords have always been pompous jerks! He has to be hiding something."

"What has he done to you, Kara?" J'onn asked, "He has done nothing but help us this whole time! Even as you were insulting him he saved us all. And not just us but the whole planet too. You can let your knowledge of a species affect how you treat one of them. We're all different people Kara, our species doesn't define us, our actions do. I think the Doctor's actions showed that he is not a threat and he is an ally of the human race. I just wish we got to know more about him so I could trust him 100%."

The room was silent as everyone digested J'onns words.

"Excuse me, director," A soldier said knocking on the door, "A package was just delivered addressed to you four. It is from a Dr. Martha Jones."

Kara, Winn, and Alex all turned to look a J'onn.

"Thank you," J'onn said walking to the soldier and grabbing the package.

"This came with it as well sir," The soldier said holding out a USB stick. J'onn nodded at took the USB. The soldier turned around and left leaving the four of them alone once more.

"Why would Martha send us something?" Winn asked.

"Maybe she wants us to know something about the Doctor," Alex suggested.

"We won't know until we see what she sent us. Winn, can you open the USB?"

"On it."
