In darkness, one could not see. That is why the light within the darkness is deemed so special by so many.

However, for one particular maiden this held true more so than for most, for she had been locked in darkness almost her entire life, with naught but one singular glimmer of hope, a small, albeit bright, light.

For most, that light may be a hobby, or a thing. Perhaps it could even be many things. Not for her, no, she only had one light, and that light was a boy.

This seemingly ordinary boy, to the people in his world at least, was perhaps one of the most extraordinary people in the whole of Lugnica, and he wasn't just the light to one woman.

He was the light to an entire nation, the hero that had conquered challenge after impossible challenge, never backing down despite facing things that many could never dream of.

He was the light to the most powerful person in the country; the queen of Lugnica, soon to be Natsuki Emilia.

Not only was he her sworn knight, the one who has had her back since the moment they met, the one who had saved her all those years ago in the slums when facing the bowel hunter.

It was then when the queen knew this boy was somebody special, as despite being the weakest in the room by a long shot, the bowel hunter, the sword saint, a great spirit, and a talented half elf mage all surpassing him in strengths by times uncountable. Despite this, he was the first to come to her rescue, even before the sword saint himself, thus saving her life.

But he was also the Queen's king, her husband to be.

He was the light of her life, not exclusively so, but he was certainly the brightest, most important light in her life.

Without him, her life would be consumed by darkness, much like her counterpart.

Dark purple shadows, the manifestation of the witch of Envy's power within the shadow garden, were reflected in the teary eyes of a silver haired half elf as she watched over her beloved as he achieved his goal.

She sat there, on her knees with tears streaking down her face, sobbing.

She didn't bother to muffle the pitiful sounds of her cries, letting her wails out as loud as she needed to, much like she would do every other day.

But today was different, today she had to sit there and watch as her beloved got married to the queen of Lugnica on a world stage.

He was a hero, and everybody adored him, but none adored him more than the witch of Envy herself.

Satella continued to cry as she watched the man she loved get married to a woman who looked identical to her.

Weeping as she watched them act out a fantasy she had dreamt about for over four hundred years.

Today was the worst day of her life.

This was the solidification of Subaru leaving her, just as he had years prior. This was his final goodbye as his loyalty now sits with another, one very similar to herself, but not at all lacking in the qualities she herself lacked.

Satella's cries grew more and more depressing as the ceremony continued, the sheer emotional pain of her love getting married to another woman, just four hundred years after he had declared his love to her for the final time before leaving her forever.

She couldn't help but blame herself. Had she not brought him here none of this would have ever happened, she wouldn't have had to bear witness to this, and he wouldn't have had to die so many times.

She looked over the unaware Subaru, and for the first time ever, his blinding smile truly pained her.

The whirlwind of emotions within her were nigh uncontainable, causing the witch great pain from within.

It took all she could not to lose control, it was her final gift to the man who saved her.

As much as it pained her, she would not let what was undoubtedly the happiest day of Subaru's life be ruined by Envy.

And so Satella sat there, shrieking in both physical and emotional pain as Subaru kissed his bride before the entire country.

Her slender arms clung to her own body, wishing they were his. Her shaking form making her black dress flow beautifully amongst the shadows as she mourned a loss that nobody but her could understand.

She truly was alone, and her last chance at a happy ending had just been demolished.

She could do nothing but watch. No, that wasn't true. She didn't just watch; she actively destroyed her own dreams as she worked her hardest to keep Envy at bay.

Ah yes, that's what truly pained her most.

Her sobs got even louder as Subaru danced with his bride, just the thought of the half elf's name made Satella's body flare in rage.

But she couldn't blame the queen for a deed that isn't her fault, it was merely her Envy that made her feel this way.

She took a deep breath, her entire form shaking as she did so, her tears continuing to fall into the shadows.

Her attempt to compose herself felt half-hearted as she continued to shake, trying her absolute best to muster up any form of smile.

But she couldn't. it was her beloved's big day and she couldn't so much as smile in happiness for him. She truly was selfish.

"Disgusting." She muttered, the insult being wayward as it was unclear who she directed it to, be it herself or the queen.

It mattered not who the insult sounded, as Satella herself knew the intent of the word she muttered so lowly under her breath.

The existence of Envy truly was disgusting.

She clawed at her own skin, wishing now more than ever for her love to come to her tomb and kill her.

She scoffed at that, he had promised her he would save her, but she could see it in his face now.

Natsuki Subaru truly was happy, and Satella's name hadn't even crossed his mind once.

The woman who had been isolated for over four hundred years had never felt so alone.
