In a majestic flock the traveling troop of cosmic warriors flew through the skies mounted on their steeds and gliding discreetly, avoiding unwanted notice. Taking charge, Lucifer positioned himself at the forefront and remained pensive. He glanced back to either side of him seeing the group that trusted him so, and how heavy that fact sat in his chest. He returned his sights forward and stayed quiet. The journey had been a long and silent one so far, but at last Lucifer could see their next mission.
Not long ago, they had traced a pack of devils back to a base centered in the crook of a valley. They were skilled in flight and scaling rocky terrain, nothing him and the rest of his crew couldn't handle. However, as his men took in the area and all the hazards it posed, Lucifer's gaze was much further off.
"So, where do you think we should land to regroup brother?" Michael's blaring voice tore Lucifer out of his thoughts.
"Huh? Oh yes, I'd say beneath that waterfall there would make for good cover. I don't intend for us to remain here long!" Lucifer spoke back.
"Very well, how would you like us to approach this horde?" Michael went further, slightly irking Lucifer's already tense mood.
"Uh," the head angel wasn't even considering what Michael had questioned, as his interest kept creeping to the top of that nearby mountain.
"Lucifer!" Michael barked. "Aren't you paying attention?"
"Is there a threat you've been considering?" Amon tagged on.
"Are you feeling alright?" Gabriel asked lastly with a gentle voice.
Hearing their voices come at him all at once was a tad overwhelming but he was used to such things. He raised his hand, gaining their attention.
"The concern is much appreciated. I should be fine; I was merely keeping watch out for any demons. These mountains are a hot spot for them after all, and strong ones too, they very likely could be hiding on the cliffs," he excused.
The group's gaze all at once became a lot more vigilant to the surrounding rock and landscape. Each kept a leery eye out hearing their leaders' reasoning.
"Good idea brother, I hadn't even considered that danger," Gabriel commented.
"Exactly, now come, I'll have Amon and Urga split off to the West side and Michael and Gabriel will be on the East," Lucifer pointed them in the direction he ordered.
"Very well, and where will you be?" Amon questioned.
Lucifer locked his stare with the knight's. Something about the look Amon gave didn't seem convinced and the angel could feel it. The divine being held up his chin and let a smirk creep up his lips.
"I shall stay at the forefront of this horde, where I can keep watch out for all of you as well as any stray demons," Lucifer said coolly.
The reminding of the troop went on their ways without further explanation. Even Amon with some hesitance steered his dragon to depart in the manner he was told, at last leaving Lucifer with just himself. Inside his mind a war raged. He knew that being of legend was only a short time away, and he knew his team was more than capable of finishing the job themselves, but even still he felt the shadow of guilt cloud his mind.
He landed his pegasus on a well-covered ridge and one where he could see the regions his men had been placed. He stayed there for some time until he could see the droves of demons being rushed out and corralled down the valley to meet their end, just as Lucifer had planned. At this point there was no doubt they would claim this victory, but that fact only caused the archangel's interests to drift further.
He scanned over the mountain tops deducing which one of them was the highest, when he finally caught trace of it, it was like he was snared into a daze. Everything he could have possibly needed, every ounce of strength one could imagine, the possibility laid just atop that mountain. He would be lying if the twinge of temptation didn't eat at him.
The angel's eyes shifted to his group and back again to the summit. Wrinkling his expression, he lastly commanded his steed to fly and ascend the vast incline. In his mind he knew the potential negative outcomes and weighed them, ultimately deciding he would return before the rest would ever notice his absence. He figured when he would return his men would look on with pride and admiration for his brave feat. He would protect them all, slay the demon race, and serve God well. The brightness of his future shimmered in his gaze urging him on.
Slowly but surely Amon and Urga cornered and finished their half of the devil's tribe. On the other side he was sure the angel brothers were doing the same with little push back. As they cut through the last of their enemies Amon was already eyeing above him searching for any sign of their leader. He hadn't seen him since they had begun their mission and he could only hope Lucifer was already at their meet up point. However, deep down something in Amon wasn't setting right.
In only a few minutes time Amon and Urga had met beneath the waterfall in a small hidden cave. It seemed they were the only two there so far. Even with the werewolf's sensitive nose he hadn't picked up a scent for any of the other men. Amon huffed to himself, feeling the discourse within him rage on.
Little time had passed when the remaining two brothers had found their way back as well. The confusion on their faces was evident, having had expected their eldest brother to have been there already.
"Amon, where's Lucifer, was he not supposed to have met us here?" Michael asked.
"He was supposed to, but Urga and I haven't seen him," Amon answered with a heavy heart.
"Well, maybe we should just give him a little more time, I'm sure he'll be here soon," Gabriel tried to sound uplifting. The others seemed to have an accepting look as they allowed themselves to rest.
Amon tended to his dragon in deep thought, that came through his creased features and distant gaze. The conversation he had with Lucifer only a few nights ago had come back to haunt him. He seemed unusually interested in that legend Urga had told them about. The story had been intriguing to Amon and at the time he had thought the same for Lucifer, but now he couldn't help but feel there was more to their talk. Even being in this area at all seemed suspect to the knight.
The time continued to tick by with no sound or sight of their leader and Amon was starting to become antsy, sensing something wasn't right. He could no longer make himself stall. As he tightened the final strap on his dragon's saddle he sighed.
"I think we should go look for Lucifer," Amon said without even turning to face the group.
A stillness came over the troop as the only sound filling their ears was the loud rumbling of the waterfall. When at last the initial surprise wore down the others found their voices.
"Why, do you think something happened?" Gabriel sounded worried.
"Do you have any idea what may have taken place? Where do you think he is?" Michael came off practical but no less concerned, even if he did try to mask it.
"I'm not entirely sure, but I have a bad feeling he might be trying to take our duty into his own hands. I fear he could get himself in more trouble than he intends," Amon at last roamed his eyes over the warriors. The buzz of urgency passed through them all like a ripple of energy. They looked to Amon with faith as they mounted their steeds and exchanged encouraging nods.
"We'll follow you. For our brother!" Michael announced. "Let's not waste any more time!"
Amon acknowledged the angel respectfully as his dragon began to move at his command and take flight. The others followed close behind, keeping their sights and their hope to the demon knight.
The higher the lone angel went, the colder and brisker the air became. He knew he had been getting close by this point and because of this he had to be more careful. Many demons hid in the crevasse of these mountains waiting and lurking for their next unsuspecting victims. For this Lucifer knew to have his pegasus fly low and amongst the thick and gloomy fog.
Going about this way made navigation a chore, but it was a risk worth taking in exchange for stealth.
The pack of warriors advanced with great haste, their worries and doubts driving them onward, up the misty mountain side. Amon knew this place had to have been crawling with demons but carrying on without notice was far more difficult with a larger troop such as theirs. Even still Amon pushed for vigilance and cation from all his members.
Hiding behind the ridges hazy vail, a set of eyes peered on. It watched the group quietly fly by as its eyes tapered ever further. The gleam of angels had become one many demons were all too aware of, and up here there was no denying their alien presence. The set of piercing eyes retreated back into its cover, but it's threat remained.
From behind, Amon felt the werewolf's figure stiffen and his ears and eyes became far more observant. The knight glanced back at his beastly companion with curiosity.
"Urga what is it? Do you sense-" in that instant Amon was cut off as a ball of fire impacted his dragon. The poor creature roared in pain as it's riders clung to it for life itself.
"Amon, Urga!" the angels hollered. They attempted to rush to their fellow warrior's sides but were stopped by yet another barrage of fire balls. They avoid the assaults but not without taking a substantial few burns and scraps.
"The demons have noticed us, circle together!" Amon ordered. The bunch came together soaring around Amon and following him one after another.
The demon knight adjusted his grip on the bridle clutching it firmly as he told the dragon to spew a trail of bright orange flame from its mouth. The heat burned through the clouds temporarily, but it was just enough for Amon to see his next victim. He swung up and cut the demon through letting the yellow blood splatter down. The others followed along with the tactic, shining their light into the dense fog, and striking their enemies as they saw them. It worked for now, but Amon knew only more devils would pour in.
"You angel's thought you could sneak upon us? On our sacred lands, how foolish!"
"You're the only plagues here!"
"We saw the first of your kind come through here, we won't let anymore!"
The statements piled in, but the only one that stood out to the remaining brothers was the last. Both Michael and Gabriel paused in their struggles hearing that.
"So Lucifer has been through here?" Gabriel whispered to Michael.
"Seems so, but why?" the two's conversation was interrupted by a devilish shriek, and they were separated once more. They each had their own battles to fight but now with the knowledge of their brothers whereabouts. Inside the sinking feeling they shared could have grounded them.
The summit Lucifer had for so long yearned for finally came into his view. It was exciting but even more so nerve racking. He wasn't sure how this would all end, or if the beast of legend was even more than a fable at all, but here he was, and nothing would hold him back. Or so he thought.
Suddenly in the far-off distance, echoing from the mountain's depths Lucifer could have sworn he heard the cries of his men. Of his own brothers. Instantly he turned his eyes away from his prize and back down the hill. He'd come so far but the thought of his troops suffering muted all else. He instantly led his pegasus back down. Like a bullet they descended the ridge at mind boggling speeds. His eyes were narrowed with grit, worry and regret. He hated himself for leaving them, what kind of leader was he to just abandon his men on a whim of all things. As he came down these were the thoughts that fed on his spirit, but even those were shoved out as he took in the sight of the battlefield.
He nearly gasped seeing his group almost entirely bombarded by these abhorrent creatures. On impulse, Lucifer sharply inhaled and came down on the assaulting demons like a ray of blistering, wrathful sun. The demons hadn't even expected it, and with that golden opportunity Lucifer took full advantage of it, cutting the hoard to splinters.
"Brother!" the angel's cheered. Having him back was like a symbol of hope to the angels as they came to his side and assisted in his slaughter. Amon and Urga continued their fights as well, but the skepticism Amon had arrived with was still very much present in him.
"Michael, Gabriel, take the others and fall back!" Lucifer yelled.
"No, Lucifer, what about you!" Gabriel rebutted.
"You can't do this alone; we don't leave each other!" Michael joined in.
A pause stifled Lucifer for a moment, before he swallowed it back, "I know, and that's why I have to make it up to you. I'm sorry…" he said.
The remaining angel's didn't even have the chance to speak further as Lucifer with a bright flash commanded their steeds away. His brothers protested and complained, fumbling to regain control of their pegasides and it worked eventually, but Lucifer was already long gone.
Amon had flown up to them with a frantic look about him, "We need to escape, come on! Follow me!"
"No, but we've lost Lucifer!" Gabriel cried.
"We'll find him, but right now this army is too thick, we're outnumbered!"
Not a soul there was comfortable with the situation, but also knew it was a matter far out of their control. Reluctantly they began to pull away from the chaos, but not without looking back, hoping to catch a trace of their wayward leader.
Caught roped in the masses Lucifer fought on. He knew now he would be the last out but that was fine by him. No price was too high to save his own, if buying them time is what they needed then he was determined to provide.
The demon's struck from all directions clawing and biting, luckily none of it turned lethal, but he couldn't guarantee how long he'd keep that luxury. At last the demons seemed to let up but the angel didn't have a good feeling as to why. They all came together, as each of their bodies melded into another. The warrior's eyes widened as he watched in horror as the mass of demons grew and closer to him.
He yanked his pegasus back forcefully, it reacted trying to move as fast as it could, but something had stopped it. Suddenly Lucifer felt the inertia move past him and the equine as they were stuck fluttering in place. The pegasus neighed in fear and snorted fighting to break himself loose. Glancing back Lucifer could see his steed's back hoof had been caught in the demon's merging and he would be next if he didn't move.
With great displeasure Lucifer flew himself off the winged-horse and tried slicing the forming beast with his sword.
"No! Let him go!" he grunted, watching in frustration as the thick hide of the demon wouldn't cut. More and more of the flailing pegasus was sucked into the monstrosity until Lucifer no longer had any choice left except to abandon his loyal steed. With troubled eyes and an even more distressed heart he met the pegasus at its face. He held its snout watching as the poor thing was all but enveloped. Lucifer held on until he couldn't anymore, and at last he flew away from it. At this point there was no beating this behemoth. Lucifer took this opportunity to escape knowing his team was well out of danger's way, and it was best he joined them.
Flying as fast as his wings could carry him, he looked back to see the fully formed creature. It was a nasty looking devil being utterly gigantic and possessing nine serpent like heads. Lucifer hated to witness what his beautiful pegasus had been combined to become, and he knew it was all his fault. Having firsthand witnessed the true power of these demon's merging abilities and how easily one can fall to it, Lucifer felt genuinely shook to his core.
Amon and the rest of the warrior's stood at each other's back's keeping one another covered and their eyes to the sky. It had been some time now, and still with no sign of Lucifer. The demon knight could feel the rest of the men's restlessness in the air. He knew he needed to reserve his own concerns and remain stoic for their sake.
In that instant Gabriel suddenly lurched forward, "Hey look! I think I see him!"
All the members flipped around to follow where Gabriel had been pointing. In the distant sky they could see a holy gleam reflect back at them. They immediately knew who it was and didn't hesitate to meet him. When they had arrived to him, he seemed unsettled and out of sorts.
"Lucifer, are you alright!?" Gabriel asked first.
"What happened!?" Michael came through after his brother. Lucifer hadn't had the chance to respond as he finally landed with all his men at his side. Amon was the first to dismount his dragon and meet with the angel. He seemed to have a vacant gaze, but even still Amon could swear he saw the horror's bleed through his eyes.
"Lucifer, what happened? Where's your steed?" Amon asked in a solid voice.
"He's been made into a monster, and it's all my fault. I only narrowly escaped as he was being sucked in and fused with that vile demon," the angel's stare remained stiff and unblinking as he finished.
The concern was apparent with them all as each shifted a gaze to the other. Gabriel approached his brother in a comforting gesture.
"I-it's okay brother, I'm sure it wasn't your fau-"
"No it was my fault! All of this is my fault, you need to leave," his face finally whipped around to view his startled brother. Shock had muted him but slowly he shook his head and retreated slightly.
"No, no Lou we're all-."
"It doesn't matter Gabriel, I'm sorry but this is too dangerous. I need you all to leave, you were nearly killed because I put you in harm's way!"
"Brother if you stay here alone, you'll die!" Michael's tone was meant to be severe, but his fret overpowered it.
Lucifer's eyes closed as he exhaled, breathing out his remorse, and hardening his heart to their pleas. With a crumpled face and clenched teeth he looked back at them sharply.
"Then may it be, but I won't stand here and continue to put you all in danger. You have to go home," he said sternly. He had crossed his arms across his chest as if to shut out the guilt he felt and distance himself from their disappointment.
"We won't leave you brother!" Gabriel stood his ground.
"Please be reasonable, this won't fix anything!" Michael added stoutly.
Gabriel and Michael objected while holding the exact same face. Despite their harsh tones it was a look riddled with disbelief, dread, and more than all else grief. Lucifer couldn't stand it; he knew they wouldn't leave on their own or on his recommendation. They would give him no choice. Raising his head and illuminating an ethereal glow, he stared at them with pained eyes.
"You both will return to heaven now, that is my command!" his presence had never before seemed so otherworldly. Something deep inside Amon was rattled by his out of character behavior, despite him always knowing Lucifer's place in their divine hierarchy. He watched as the brothers were forced away. He could see the last drop of their personalities disappear as their body's practically becoming like animatronics acting on orders alone. Their will's had been suffocated.
Lucifer's form became faint and returned to his normal appearance, but his expression looked utterly devastated watching them robotically mount their steeds and fly away. Amon and Urga were completely quiet until the brothers and their pegisides had become nothing but another couple of stars in that endless sky.
"…I know I can't command you as I do them, but you should go too, it's not safe," Lucifer's voice was low, and his back was still turned. Amon puffed up his chest and stood firm like a mighty oak.
"No, I won't."
Without warning Lucifer spun around unsheathing his sword. Amon saw the glint of it shine in his eyes before realizing the blade was hovering just over his throat. The angel was breathing heavily, and his gaze was grave. Amon fully believed he was capable of killing him then and there, but still he didn't think he would. In a single quick motion Amon swung his sword out, clashing away the angels. Lucifer held up on his bluff bringing his sword back up to slash the knight threw. Just in time Amon's sword came between to counteract Lucifer's, they were locked with their swords crossed staring intensely at one another.
Urga was on guard coming up behind Amon in support as he growled and bared his teeth, the dragon doing the same. The holy warrior kept an eye on both of them closely.
"You need to go Amon. If you won't willingly, I'll be forced to make you…" his tone was frigid.
"There's no way you can fight all these things yourself Lucifer! What exactly are you planning on? Turning everyone away so they won't see you get yourself killed!?"
"If it must be!" Lucifer screamed at his wits end.
Amon stopped and looked straight into the blue aching eyes of Lucifer. Distress was seeping from every fiber of his being, and the shame had all but eaten him from the inside out, spewing from his mouth and now into his words. The shell of him that was left read with absolute terror. Amon knew there was nothing he could do for him, not like this. Amon's face was fierce but ever so steadily he started to back away.
"Very well, we'll go…" Amon said somberly, much to the surprise of Urga and even Lucifer himself.
"Amon, are you sure?" Urga asked bewildered. Amon walked past the werewolf with a gloom about him. He planted himself on top of the dragon and gestured for Urga to join him.
"Yes Urga, there doesn't seem to be anything left for us here," Amon's voice was flat. The wolf seemed skeptical and completely lost. His eyes looked to the angel and then back to the knight before finally with a slumping posture he walked to the dragon and hopped on.
Amon and Lucifer watched each other close with an ardent stare before finally the black knight tugged on the dragon's reins to move out.
"Farewell Lucifer, it's been an honor fighting with you," Amon finished formally.
"Same to you," Lucifer responded. With that Lucifer felt the gust of the dragon's down beat, lifting them higher and further away. The angel now stood all alone keeping his sights on the knight until he couldn't no longer. He huffed scrunching his eyes closed. The pressure that was rampaging within him and the culpability he experienced could have destroyed the lone leader. He continued to breath in and out, like steam from boiling water he had to release this awful feeling, in some way, in some form. He used this stinging in his chest to drive him forward. Taking one step after another, each becoming fiercer than the last the angel took off back into the skies. Praying he could make at least one last miracle.
From high above Urga began to take notice that the direction they had been taking wasn't getting them any further from the Earth. He lifted himself slightly feeling the wind comb through his dark thick fur, as he took a look at the contemplative features of his friend.
"Amon, we're not actually leaving Earth, are we?" Urga called over the gusts.
"No, Lucifer's acting irrationally, he's setting himself on a suicide mission. It goes against my knightly code to just leave him here; it wouldn't be right. We don't leave our men behind," Amon answered resolutely.
"That's what I thought you'd say. So where are we going?" the werewolf spoke with a newfound vigor.
"We're going to come around from the opposite side and follow him up the mountain. I've got a hunch what he's planning to do, I just hope I'm wrong," Amon's voice was deep and graveled as he steered the dragon to bank around the cliffside. The scaly beast roared as it cut through the air taking the pair down secretively and passing through the ridge.
All twelve of Lucifer's wings were thrusting with every bit of might the archangel possessed. For being all alone he was making great time creeping back into the heart of this crest. He knew many demons could still be around making him travers with great care. Purposefully he dimmed his own shine and luckily, so far, he hadn't been spotted. What he worried for the most however was that titan sized creature, that devil that had ensnared his own Pegasus. He knew it had to still be around here and thus his vision remained alert.
The gales were getting colder, and the environment had been cast in darkness as the overcast loomed. Much to his gratefulness he could still see the light of the moon beaming through. He kept his watch to it like a beacon. However, suddenly something else stole his interest and it was just what he had feared. Looking down he could see the giant hulking figure of the fused demon's flying just below him, and one of its several heads happened to spot him.
Lucifer felt his pulse rocket throughout his body, as he darted to make a run for it, but it was futile, that thing could catch up to him just by its massive size alone. Externally the angel displayed no fear but inside he was screaming.
He heard the hydra's many heads shoot up from under him and when they met at his level, he was forced to weave between them. They snapped their jaws and almost caught him a few times, but he proved slippery. Lucifer knew these demons were still enraged by his presence, him being in a place that held so much significance to them, their anger was fresh. He scrambled to think of a way to escape, a way to free himself from this threat, and just then he thought of an idea.
He made eye contact with the head in the center, sending it an unfriendly glare. He suspended himself in the air and readied himself in place. He could see the demon rushing him, all nine of its mouths gaping open. Right when it was about to at last come down on him, he flashed the light within him as brightly as he could.
Without reason the hydra's eyes widened and watched him in wonder. Any animosity had melted away as it stopped right in front of him and looked at him with a confused yet longing expression. In truth Lucifer wasn't sure that would even work but he sighed with relief seeing as it had. His Pegasus was still in there somewhere, remembering his signal. Deep inside it recalled him. Lucifer didn't want to test his good fortune much longer, while the hydra was caught in his trance, he made a break for it. The action had bought him just enough time, enough that once the beast had come out of his altered mindset Lucifer was already too far gone.
The wintery drafts became that much worse now as he was reaching the summit. Lucifer could see his destination now it was practically only an arm's reach away. The anticipation was bubbling up inside him, soon he would grasp his destiny.
Amon could tell they were getting close, the oxygen had become thin, and the frost was relentless. He could see the peaks of the mountains as they scraped the skyline. However, not all was well as Urga jolted up on edge.
"Urga what is it now? Do you sense a demon?" Amon quarried in a hurry.
"Yes, and a really big one," the werewolf growled looking down at the immense fog. Amon skimmed it along with him. He trusted his friend's intuition, but he was admittedly still shocked to see the towering mass that appeared from that misty shroud. It seemed a wrathful head popped out from every angle imaginable. The dragon maneuvered through the demon, narrowly being sliced up by only a finger's length each time. Amon pulled out his sword, bashing them every opportunity he got, but it made little difference.
"Amon, we'll never be able to fight this thing off, we need to get away!" Urga yelled.
"I know, but it's not going to stop!" Amon replied as he searched around. As he did so he could have sworn he saw a glimpse of Lucifer, and just as he feared he was standing at the top, right under the full moon.
"Amon!" Urga shouted again, leaving a gash on one of the hydra's heads as it went by. The knight had been distracted, he needed to be rid of this creature now or else they would likely parish. Just then as he looked up, he could see part of the mountain had a slope to it. One good blast would do it in and topple the mound. With few choices left Amon went for it. They had to lure the devil right where they needed and then the landslide would fend it off, or so the knight hoped.
"Hold tight Urga, we'll lose this monster once and for all!" Amon proclaimed as he dove back into the tangled mess of necks. Every flank of the dragon had to be accounted for as they went in, Urga helped warn of the devil's heads in the back as did Amon from the front.
They were reaching the cliff and soon they were right under it. Amon pulled up as the dragon flew with great speed and swiftness. The knight crouched down, lining up his sights with the dragon and preparing to fire seeing the bottom of the overhang. The trio could feel the spittle leap from the lips of the hydra it was so close upon them. Finally just then their aim was perfect, Amon ordered the dragon to fire, blasting away the rock's stability.
A low rumble came first and slowly pieces fell from the mountain that then turned to full on chunks. The dragon avoided the falling stone but with the hydra's size that option wasn't as viable. The boulders just kept piling on bringing down the devil as it screamed in dismay. Amon and Urga could have cheered seeing the plan turn to one of success, but in their excitement, they didn't see one of the heads charging an attack. From its maw a blinding energy had built up, and without warning the last head as it was falling to the mountains' base, released its assault.
It had all come so fast no one from the troop had even anticipated it, but the blast arrived and without clemency. The dragon screeched in agony as it's wing had been punctured through. Amon felt his heart race in his throat as he struggled to make it to landing before they plummeted. When they finally came down it was in a crash but miraculously, they had made it to the mountain siding and weren't far from the top. Amon assessed himself seeing as he was fine, he then wasted no time and hurried to this dragon's side. He had found Urga on the way and had asked about his condition. Thankfully, the werewolf was alright as well, but the dragon was hurting.
"My dear friend, I'm so sorry," he rubbed the dragon's neck as it laid there.
"Amon what will we do? It can't fly like this," the canine informed.
"I know, and we're running out of time," Amon glanced from the dragon up to the summit. He came to his feet and aided the dragon into coming to its own.
"If we can just walk him up there, we should be able to make it," Amon said as he gently pulled the dragon along. The steed didn't seem thrilled about the situation but trekked along anyway.
"Well it seems we best hurry, we're still not alone," Urga commented seeing the glowering eyes of more demons sheen behind them. Amon's teeth came together in agitation as he drew his sword and assisted his dragon faster up the incline.
The weather had turned stormy, hearing the thunder mumble and the heaven's grow dark. The wind alone could have swept the angel away if it weren't for his determination. Lucifer kept his face up to see the funnel of clouds opening allowing the moon to illuminate through. Like a spotlight he held this stage and from there he could see the imposing face of the legendary devil staring down upon him.
He took a strong breath knowing this is what he had come for. His nerves were all over the place, but he kept himself collected as he allied his view with the moon.
"Devil of the Moon, hear me! Lend me your strength and I will offer you a reward far greater than any devil could ever grant! These meager demons I will annihilate, and together we will become a greater being than ever imaginable!" he boasted.
The shadow of the face's gaze seemed to move as it's eye's tapered down to him and seemed to glance to the side every once in a while. Lucifer felt his own adrenaline pumping through him, seeing the Devil's distracted features. It wasn't enough, he had to come up with a better bargain or else he'd be doomed.
"With my cunning and your power we will become more than any demon ever could be! Serve me and you will prosper in the house of God, a home of light and cleanliness, you will be forgiven of your darkness and your strength will be put to valiant use!" the angel shouted. The great Devil didn't seem all that interested in him, there was something down below taking his interest instead.
Amon lashed out with his sword defending his comrades and struggling through the cyclone as he pushed himself and everyone else up the steep ground. Urga and the dragon both did what they could, spewing fire and biting their enemies through. Amon was berated by the creatures all around but still he fought them off, leading his companions forward and taking the blunt of the swarm.
"Lucifer! Lucifer, you must stop this! It's very dangerous!" he bellowed through swings. They were so close to the top now that Lucifer was in ear shot, and Amon could only hope he would actually listen.
The wings on the angel's head jerked up in fright, that soon turned to detest. His body came around to see Amon's head starting to poke up from over the edge.
"What are you doing here! I told you to leave!"
"I knew you would try something like this. My only regret is I didn't get here sooner! Lucifer, this is madness!" Amon called over the hostile winds. The dragon and Urga followed after him, until all three now stood opposite to the angel.
"You won't stop me! I need to do this! I have to!" Lucifer spat.
"And then what!? What happens after you do? You don't know, there's no guarantee this will fix anything, you're doing this because you're stubborn and don't want to admit defeat. Your pride isn't worth your life, or anybody else's!" Amon argued vehemently.
The angel's irritated face snapped for a moment into one of trepidation. It seemed as soon as the expression came it just as soon went, flashing away as fast as the lightning itself. Like a wounded animal Lucifer felt helpless, and thus ever vicious.
"You could never understand what all this means to me! What this means to my very existence! I don't have a choice, failure is not an option, and I will fight for this chance if it's the last thing I do!" the angel flung out his sword. Amon was about to do the same, holding his defenses, but then a thunderclap louder than either of the two had ever heard exploded from above. It sounded almost like a roar and suddenly the raging weather had all but stopped on that mountain top alone.
Lucifer's attention immediately changed, gazing up to the moon as it glowed brighter than it ever had. A crazed look came to the angel's face as he basked in the light and all its prestige.
"I've done it! I've done it, I have been chosen!" Lucifer exclaimed.
The pit of worry Amon had, became a hollow feeling as he glanced upward and back to his comrade. Holding out his arm he advanced towards the light being, keeping hold of every bit of rationale he could.
"Lucifer quick, get away! Get away from it before it's too-" Amon rushed up to drag him away but was promptly shoved away by the archangel. He stumbled back into the catch of Urga and his dragon as Lucifer stared on with visions of glory enveloping his mind and soul.
A red-hot bolt of unnatural lightning at last descended from the heaven's coming down in a millisecond. Lucifer closed his eyes, as he prepared for the impending impact.
When the bolt struck the Earth, a small eruption came with it. The ferocity of the event was immense, Lucifer was tossed to the ground and the sounds of screams echoed across the land, as the storm at last came to an end.
