Chapter 31 Cursed Mirror

It all started the day Terra walked down main street, passing by the various shops, seeing what was in the windows. Usually he was familiar with all of the stores on this street, but today he found something new. There was a brand new store in one of the spaces where an old shoe repair store had been.

He stared into the window, seeing a lot of old items and even without looking at the store name, he could tell that it was an antiques store. He had been to a few stores like that before, finding the old items rather interesting, from furniture to old toys to even vintage music.

Terra stepped inside, causing the doorbell to jingle. He expected someone to shout hello from further back in the store, but it was eerily silent. Not a single sound was heard in the store from any corner of the room.

"I wonder if they're at lunch and forgot to change the sign…" Terra wondered to himself.

He stepped a bit further into the store, looking at the shelves of old items. "Hello?" he called out.

There was no answer.

With a sigh, he thought to turn around and leave. He could always come back later.

He was just about to turn around and head out the door when he heard a creak. He thought it was the floorboards beneath him, but something in the back of his mind made him turn around. He moved slowly through the store, heading to the back where he saw various things lined up against the wall. Over in the far corner he saw that there was a mirror with a blanket draped over it.

For some reason he approached the mirror, he didn't know why. Something about it just brought out the natural curiosity in him. He pulled the blanket off the mirror and stared at it, his eyes widening at what he saw.

He did see his reflection, but something was different about it. He looked different, mainly with his hair and eyes. For some reason, in this reflection he had silver hair and amber colored eyes.

The reflection moved with him though, it was still in fact his own reflection as far as he could tell. He moved his hands and stepped forward and back, and his reflection still followed.

"This is weird…" he said aloud to see his reflection still mouth the same thing.

"What kind of trick is this…" he then said.

"I would say it isn't a trick, but something beyond your comprehension," his reflection spoke. The voice was much different than his own… much deeper and slightly distorted.

Terra staggered back, but now his reflection remained where it was. He saw his reflection chuckling. "No need to be so afraid. There is no reason to."

"But you… you're… how can…"

"As I said, beyond your comprehension. But I will try and explain. This mirror holds magic, a gateway to another realm much like your own. There are only slight differences."

"And how did… but you were just acting as my reflection?"

"Or were you acting as mine?" his reflection laughed. "That is something we can never be sure of. But now we have met and perhaps you can help."

"Help how?" Terra asked as he stepped closer.

"I've looked into both our worlds, and I feel we could find ways to connect them. Bring our worlds together. But I need your help, this mirror I believe can act as a gateway."

Terra hummed. "So what do you want me to do? I don't think shattering it would be the way."

His reflection shook his head. "No. We must try something else. Try putting your hand on the mirror and I will follow after."

Terra was a bit hesitant, reaching out his hand slowly. "You sure it would work?"

"I cannot be sure, but we can try and see," his reflection said with a smile.

With a nod, Terra reached out his hand and placed it on the mirror. It was cold to the touch, but he kept his hand there as he watched his reflection reach up. The grin he was holding though didn't feel as warm as it did moments ago. It was wider and his eyes had a sinister look to them.

But he didn't have time to pull away for his reflection's hand came out of the mirror and grabbed his wrist.

In the blink of an eye he went tumbling and when things stopped spinning he stood up and turned around. He felt dread fill his entire body as he looked to see that his reflection was now on the opposite side of the mirror.

"Wait! What happened!" Terra demanded as he pounded against the glass. He hit it as hard as he could, but the glass didn't crack at all.

His reflection laughed loudly. "Your kind are really so dumb," he said, his voice no longer distorted but still just as deep as it was before.

"What did you do!" Terra shouted.

"Are you sure I should explain? I'm afraid your simple mind would fail to understand it again."

"Just tell me!" Terra growled.

"Very well," he said as he crossed his arms. "I was not your reflection of another world. Instead you found yourself upon a mirror that held a special curse. A cursed mirror that creates your opposite upon looking into it."

Terra swallowed. "So you're… my evil half?"

"Oh so close, so I will allow it. But I must thank you for doing this, I know being free will be so fun. But you make sure you enjoy yourself there."

Terra saw his evil reflection started to walk away, he tried to move around in the mirror to get a better view of him. "Hey! You can't leave me here!"

"It doesn't matter. If you are worried about food or water, you shouldn't care. In a mirror you are merely a reflection… but of course with nothing to reflect. So you won't age or have any reason to do what you humans need to survive."

Terra gritted his teeth. "My friends will know something is wrong! They'll stop you and reverse this."

His evil half only laughed. "Oh they will try, but if I brought them here… well you know what will happen. There's no stopping this, so better get comfy."

The evil half walked away, out of range of the mirror. Terra backed up from the mirror and fell to the ground. All around him was what the mirror could reflect, but beyond where it couldn't was a dark void.

He was trapped.

He was all alone.

He was trapped in this mirror and it was all his fault.

So I know that's a dark one to end on, but that was my original intent years ago when I started this series lol.

BUT LOOK AT THAT I FINISHED IT! Finally I have done it and boy it feels good. So thank you all for reading this series over the years.
