Ch.29: Once Upon a Trixie
As humans, we always search for that next big moment. That next thing to grasp onto. The next interest or hobby that we grow to love. For me, that came the following Monday.
In Civics, our teaches had gotten through a two-day explanation about the balance of power, or the idea of two political parties having equal control of the government. On Earth, I had seen this a lot. Sometimes, it works. Booth parties can work in harmony, but if the other only wishes to disrupt continuity, or even progress, things can go bad quickly.
After his explanation, Experienced Leader had us get to work on a worksheet that listed examples of a divided government, and we had to explain if they were good or bad. If we wished, we could collaborate with a partner. Flash made the decision to work alone, so I did as well. That was, until I heard the words "Pardon Me?" above me.
I looked up to see Trixie standing there, a combination of confused and intrigued on her face. "Trixie needs some help with this. She is greatly confused on one of the examples."
I smiled and pointed to the seat next to me. "Go ahead Trixie. Its nice to finally meet you properly."
The magician smiled. "Why, thank you David. Trixie is pleased for your assistance. She is confused by the example of the Senate wanting to shut down the government over debt. Would that not hurt people? Would it not be easier to issue a stay of resolution to negotiate some debt paying?"
I nodded. "Think of it like this, Trixie. Not everyone agrees with that idea. Some want to hurt people, while others may feel, in this example, that the leader would not be inclined to agree. Why would that be the case?"
Trixie thought for a moment, then snapped her fingers. "Would Trixie be correct when she says the leader may believe the debt is good, because overall more economic programs may be needed to help the poor?"
"You are almost there" I smiled.
Trixie thought some more. "I am not sure."
I nodded. "What do some people that disagree do?"
A lightbulb then hit Trixie's figuratively on the head. "They are stubborn and believe they are right?"
I smiled and nodded. "Correct. Is there any others you are confused about?'
She shook her head, standing up. "Thank you for your help. By the way, Trixie thinks you and Aria are adorable together."
I blushed, our teacher smiling. He then made a phone call. It was not long before I heard the principal intercom say the following:
"David Root, please report to the Principal Office."
I was extremely nervous when I walked those steps to that familiar office. Had I done something wrong?
I was surprised, then, as I opened the door to see a smiling Celestia. Celestia had a cup of coffee in her hand. "Come, sit down." She said, seeing my nervous face. She laughed. "Don't worry David, you are not in trouble."
I sat down, crossing my legs at the feet. "So, what's this about Principal Celestia?"
She smiled widely. "Experienced Leader tells me you have an aptitude for Civics and history. Have you given any thought to being a tutor?"
I shook my head. "I... no. Does he think I did that well with Trixie?"
Celestia's face was all I needed to see. I allowed a smile, uncrossing my legs.
"You would do it on Monday's and Thursdays after school. We would want you for Pandestria History and perhaps Civics from time to time."
As the next tale will show, my children, I agreed to the deal.
