Ch.30: Dreams

It was that following Monday that the deal began. After school, I headed to the library. The librarian, Mrs. Bell, greeted me, her trademark mohawk shining brightly.

"So, you became a tutor, huh? Last row of tables by the reference books" she smiled, pointing in the direction. I thanked her, and walked there, smiling all the while. All of my life, I had enjoyed helping people. Whether it be raking leaves, or consulting someone going through hard times. This was going to be fun.

As I sat, the library doors opened again to reveal Scootaloo, who headed in my direction. She wore a purple hoodie, red shorts, and light up sneakers. I giggled. It seemed she took after her friends a bit.

"Afternoon!" I smiled, pulling up the chair beside me. She sat on down, removing her Canterlot History folder. "Hi, David. Thanks for agreeing to be my tutor!"

"No problem! Say, I got a question before we start. Did Rainbow Dash eat you earlier? I could have sworn I heard your voice coming from your belly."

She giggled, nodding. "She always eats me. I remember one time when I climbed into her mouth when she was asleep. She wasn't happy."

"Because you both could get hurt?" I asked.

She nodded.

There is not much to say about the actual tutoring. Scootaloo was a bright individual that needed guidance, and I was happy to help. After we finished is where I would like to tell the tale.

As she put her things back in her backpack, I heard her sigh. "David, what do you think of Pinkie's family?"

"Well," I said "I like them a lot. Pinkie is one of my best friends. Maud is Maud, I don't have much to say about Limestone, and Marble is a sweetheart."

"What about Mr. and Mrs. Pie?" She asked, looking at me.

"They have treated me so well" I said closing my eyes. "Knew me nowhere, did not know if I was a foe, and took me in anyway. As people... I love them all."

At this, Scootaloo took my left hand, frowning a bit.

"I know what that's like. Can I tell you about it?"

At once, I agreed. But it would not be there.

"Come on. Why don't I treat you to some Dairy Queen?"

Sitting at a table outside with a temperature of sixty-eight, Scootaloo and I both sat with medium sized blizzards. Mine was a Kit Kat, hers a Butterfinger. Scootaloo looked up at me.

"Its not easy for me to talk about stuff like this."

I nodded. "Take your time, Scootaloo."

She nodded, taking a deep breath after finishing a bite. "My parents- biological- were in college when they met. They were both in some kinda of weird party house and did the yucky thing. I don't have any want to do that."

I nodded. "Nor should you at your age."

She agreed. "Well... I... they weren't good to me. I was with them two years. From what I know, it was...they abandoned and neglected me a lot."

Immediately, brotherly instinct took over and I hugged her. Scootaloo sighed, her voice a bit shaky. "H-how could anyone do that to a baby?!"

"I don't know" I said quietly.

Scootaloo wiped her eyes. "Well, soon our neighbors found out, and called the police officers. I was soon placed in foster care with a lesbian couple named Holiday and Lofty. They always treated me so well, and when I was four, we went to a big courthouse. I had...I have a home now."

"So, they adopted you?" I asked smiling.

The young girl grinned. "Yup! Lofty sow's quilts, and Holiday is retired. They are both in their sixties."

Just then behind us, we heard a chuckle. "You must have been talking about me, Scoots"

Scootaloo turned to see Lofty looking at her with a grin. "I just told David about you and Mom" she smiled. Lofty smiled.

"So, I see" she smiled, nodding at me. "You weren't at the school. I kinda figured you were here."

Scootaloo gave me one final hug and retreated with her mom. Lofty turned to me.

"Would you like a ride home, David?"

How could I resist an offer from such an incredible lady?
