"What should our first course of action be?" Starfire asked. She stared beyond their thin stone walkway and into the boundless void. She wasn't quite sure where to begin.
"Let's get moving along the path for now. I'm hoping we run into Happy Raven again." Beast Boy said, "Raven's emotions all seemed to know their way around this place, so maybe she'll know a place we can look." He glanced at a tree. A few of the same birds from last time were gathering. He assumed they were getting ready to attack like they had done to him and Cyborg the last time, "And Star?"
"Yes?"
"Be prepared to shoo off some demon birds." Sure enough, there was the familiar call of,
"Turn Back."
Starfire turned to the noise. She saw four birds perched on the branch of a dead tree. They appeared to be just four typical ravens.
"Are those the birds you are referring?" She asked.
"Those are the ones. I know they look cute now, but…"
On queue, the ravens let out a screech and charge. Starfire flew over the swarm, while Beast Boy ducked below. More ravens seemed to gather as they turned around for another pass at the two.
"Friend, is there a particular way you got by them the first time?"
"We didn't really. They just sorta vanished when Raven showed up."
Luckily, light still seemed to freak them out. Starfire discovered this as she launched starbolts into the approaching unkindness. She was able to keep most of them at bay. A group of four split off to attack Beast Boy from the side. He was preoccupied with guarding his front, so he did not notice until it was too late. They made no serious damage, but it was enough to make him lose his balance and go tumbling over the edge. He grabbed the ledge and planned to morph into a bird of his own. He found someone holding the ledge on the other side.
"Hey, how's it hanging?" Happy Raven smirked. As with the first time he met her, the gravity flipped upside down. Beast Boy fell on his face again. Starfire was just disoriented for a moment as she was still hovering above. Beast Boy got up and brushed himself off just in time for Happy to knock him down again.
"It's good to see you!" Her eyes then turned to the girl whose feet had just touched down, "Starfire!" The force of Happy's hug nearly sent them both over the edge again.
"I am happy to see you." Starfire smiled.
"Likewise. So, what brings you guys here? Did Beast Boy forget what the mirror did?"
"No. We are here to try to find a way to help you."
"Do you know if there is a good place to look?" Beast Boy chimed in.
"It sounds like you guys are gonna wanna head to the library." Her smile somehow got even wider, "That means I'll get to spend even more time with you!" She pointed a finger at Beast Boy, "I mean, I'd rather he not be here, but what can you do?" She gauged the others' reactions, "I'm kidding! I'm kidding! Anyway, library's this way, so follow me!" She took a step off the cliff and a path materialized as she skipped.
"Did this Raven also do the hugging the last time you were here?" Starfire whispered.
"No, that's new." Beast Boy responded.
"What are you guys talking about back there? It's not about me, I hope."
"As if." He ran to catch up to her, "Wanna hear a joke?"
"What's that?...brzzt...I can't...brzzt...hear you." Happy mimed a phone with her pinkie and thumb.
"You can't do that trick if I'm right here."
"What? What's that? Something...brzzt…about a trip?"
Starfire hung back for a moment. She couldn't help but smile. This must be the first time Beast Boy has relaxed at all since Raven blacked out, she thought.
"Star! No reason to be a third wheel!" The path stretched to accommodate a third person, "Get on up here!"
They continued this way for a while. Laughing and cracking jokes. (mostly at Beast Boy's expense)
"Alright, if you could switch powers with anyone for a day, who would it be?" Their round of Q&A had arrived at Happy's turn to ask.
"Batman." Beast Boy responded instantly.
"But, did you not say The Batman does not have any powers?" Starfire said.
"Yeah man! That totally doesn't count." Happy pouted.
"Would either of you guys want to fight him?" The girls both averted their eyes. Beast Boy smiled having just been proven right, "See? My answer stands. Batman."
"Fine." Happy tried to stay annoyed but it didn't really last long, "What about you Starfire?"
"Perhaps Aqualad so I could breathe underwater and experience undersea life more completely. Or maybe Kid Flash so I could travel anywhere in the world."
"Cool! I'd love either of those! Remember when we both had crushes on Aqualad, Starfire? That was funny, wasn't it?" Happy nudged Beast Boy, "As for me, I'd probably want to switch with Garfield here."
"Wait Raven, why?" He asked. She simply shrugged and increased her pace.
"No, really. Why?" He ran after her. Suddenly, Happy planted her feet and threw her arm out, "Raven?"
"Alright. Stop here." She said. They were right at the entrance of a canyon which seemed to stretch for at least a mile.
"This is the library?" Beast Boy asked. Happy laughed.
"No. We just need to stop here a second so I can warn you. The canyon's not really stable right now, so there are frequent rock slides. Be sure to be on your toes."
"Let's just fly over it then." He morphed into a bird and in a few seconds, he was sent back to the ground, "Why didn't you say it would shock me?"
"Come on. You know me well enough to know the answer to that one." She pat the back of his head as she walked past, "Let's get moving. You still have a ways to go."
Nvm about longer chapter installments I guess. This just felt like a good place to end.
